can the funnybunny enjoyers of the tadc fandom and the funnybunny enjoyers specifically stop making jax and pomni so painfully heterosexual for five seconds. looking at you ao3.
#the amazing digital circus#some people write really good fanfics about the two. and i read them constantly!! but we dont talk abt the rest of them...#making them fall into the âalpha male jaxâ and âsubmissive and scared pomniâ type of shit.#EVEN GANGLE WOULDNT WRITE THAT.#pomni is not a cinnamon roll who is scared all the time. jax is not secretly nice. scared of being vulnerable? that could work#but SECRETLY NICE? HELL NAH#this sorta thing is why half of jax's fans dipped after watching the second episode#jax is a bitch!!! he can still care abt someone (for example kaufmo. or in this case pomni) while still being an ass.#pomni has a backbone! STOP WRITING HER LIKE A CARBON COPY OF GANGLE#even gangle talks back sometimes you think pomni won't?#the only reason pomni was so paranoid in the pilot was becuz she JUST GOT HERE. and she wants to LEAVE but CANT.#she is NOT LUIGI!11!1!!11#well. maybe. luigi is brave. but thats not the point#funnybunny#pomni x jax#jax x pomni

actually, this was the first script for episode 3 (no, lol).
I draw small sketches, because well I REALLY LIKED THE SERIES, BUT MORE OF FUNNYBUNNY COULD HAVE BEEN ADDED.
Well, here's another addition.
I draw with half my strength, maybe someday I won't be too lazy to draw...

Funnybunny Week 2025
Prompt: Fancy Outfits
AU: Carnival of Wonders AU by @thenightgazers @carnivalofwonderstadcau
AO3
Jax fixed his tie, peering over his shoulder to watch Pomni as she applied her blush at her dresser. Caine had been pondering on how to gain more ratings for the show, and had been offered the suggestion of a ballroom dance from Gangle. Jax wouldnât lie, it seemed like a good idea. Just a nice night to slow dance with his wife until sleep caught up to them or when the sun rose over them.
Once his tie was done, he buttoned up his waistcoat and went over to his wife. He bent down and wrapped his arms around her, pressing a kiss to the side of her neck, âYouâre so beautiful.â
She giggled, âIâm not done getting ready yet.â
âDoesnât matter,â he whispered against her skin. âYouâre always beautiful no matter how you look.â
âEven after I ugly cry over burning food by accident?â she snickered lightheartedly.Â
Jax chortled, pressing a kiss to her hair, âEspecially then.â
Pomni rolled her eyes fondly, finishing her lipstick before standing, âI have to change.â
âI canât wait to see what you wear,â Jax said. âYou look drop dead gorgeous in everything you wear.â
âWell arenât you a flatterer,â she smiled, taking the hanger and bag the dress was in. âTurn around please.â
Jax didnât hesitate, facing the other way. Pomni could still be nervous with how she looked, it was why he always took the chance to tell her how beautiful she is whenever he would - after all it was the truth, she was always stunning.Â
âUm, Jax?â
Jaxâs ears perked up when hearing her voice, âAm I okay to look?â
âYeah, um. Could you help me zip this?â she asked timidly. âThe zipper is a bit jammed.â
Jax turned around, his voice stuck in his throat when he saw her. The sleeveless dress was a deep red, with a sweetheart neckline and a high-low skirt covered in rose petals. Jax was nothing short of breathless, âYouâre stunning.â
Pomniâs face turned the same colour as her dress, âDarling, please, the zipper?â
Jax blinked some of his awe away, âR-right.â He went behind her, taking the zipper from her fingers. He slowly eased the zip up, letting his fingers trail over her soft skin, hearing her gulp from his delicate touch. He couldnât help but tease her a little bit. The zip finally reached the top of her dress, âThere.â He pressed a kiss to her bare upper back, âAll done.â
Pomni squeaked, interlacing their fingers together, âYouâre such a tool sometimes.â
âYeah,â Jax kissed up the way to her neck. âI am.â He continued to press kisses to her cheek, before twirling her around and kissed her soundly on the lips.
Pomni breathed into the kiss, wrapping her arms around his neck. She pulled away for air, pressing kisses all over his face, leaving red lipstick marks all over his purple fur. She giggled when she stopped, âOops.â
Jax knew how he must have looked at the moment, joining in on her laughter, âI think weâre going to be a bit late to the ball.â
âOh well,â Pomni shrugged. âMaybe we can sneak in a few more kisses before heading down.â
The rabbit smirked, cupping his wifeâs cheeks, âIâm sure that can be arranged.â His lips pressed against hers once again.
.
.
.
Caine tapped his foot against the marble floor of the ballroom, checking his watch, âWhere on earth could those two lovebirds be?!â
Ragatha chuckled, âThose two are head over heels with each other. Honestly Iâm not surprised that theyâre a little bit late.â
The ringmaster was about to open his mouth to speak when the sound of the door closing behind him caught his attention. Turning, he saw the missing rabbit and jester finally arrive, âWhat took you two so long?!â
âOh you know,â Pomni shared a knowing look with her husband. âJust testing some lipstick.â
âAnd admiring our outfits,â Jax continued, patting his pocket where a lipstick covered handkerchief was hidden. And would probably be used again later tonight if a storage closet was found.

Mindless Kindness (Freakshow!Funnybunny)
(Pomni is still favored by Caine in this fic, but, not in a Showtime sense. Heâs more on just making sure his shiny new addition, isnât getting ruined too soon.)
Forgive me if theyâre out of character, or I got something wrong. I wasnât sure how to make this work. The characters personalities are moslty from my personal headcannons, and assumptions about them.
Also, while I think hootbon stated Caine is more lenient with both Pomni and AIngle, for this, he just likes Pomni a little bit more.
Jax x Pomni arenât canon in the AU. I just like the ship.
Freakshow belongs to: @hootbon
~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~
Pomni was never one to speak her mind.
WellâŚmaybe she was. But, not anymore.
Because, apparently trying to express your human feelings, can get you killed or demented. (Or in Ragathaâs case; permanently silenced).
Although sheâll just come back, because death isnât possible in this world (except for one type of dyingâŚ), itâs still not a pleasant thing to experience, whether it be by an accident during an adventure, or by the hands of the ringleader, or by the hands of the other trapped members.
After her first encounter with the twins, Pomni avoided Gangle like the plague. The living teary eyed porcelain mask, turned out to be just as violent and murderous as her âsisterâ; resulting in the wooden ballerinaâs first âGame Overâ.
And she never wanted to repeat the mistake she made ever again.
But at the moment; there she was, confused with her own internal debating, of whether to approach the twins once more or not.
Pomni was just planning on sleeping for the rest of the leisure hour, until Caine called them up for showtime again. She wasnât expecting to pass by, a scene likeâŚ. this.
Right before her eyes, were the twisted twins. Gangle wasnât really doing anything, only silently watching behind her conjoined sister, as she carried on with her sadistic joke.
AIngle was once again puppeteering the lifeless Kaufmo with her ribbons. Making him dance, smile, and wave, at an uncomfortable Jax, who was trying to be nonchalant about the cruel joke.
âJax olâ buddy! Itâs me! Wanna joke around?â AIngle said, using her Kaufmo voice. âCâmon, letâs do something together!â
âCome on, bunny rabbit. Donât you think itâs rude to ignore you best friend?â AIngle said using her regular voice, as she shook the clown around.
Gangle tried to intervene, âI-I donât think you shouldââ
âI donât think I asked you to speak.â AIngle cut off her timid half.
Gangle squeaked and stayed quiet.
Jax rolled his eyes to hide his discomfort. Just the thought of his dead friend, being puppeteered for shows made him sick in the stomach. And now this twisted ribbon freak, wants to fuck with his head, even off stage.
âIâm not⌠in the mood for thisâŚâ He tried to sound less in pain, and attempted to walk away.
But just like that, the ribbons holding the clown up, carried him over the rabbitâs head, and blocked his way.
Jax passing through the right, but Kaufmo was dragged and used to block that way as well. He tried to take a step to the left, but it resulted in the same way.
âNot until you gimme a good hug!â After saying that, the clownâs arms were spread open slightly leaning towards the rabbit, who instinctively leaned back.
âKaufy and I donât hug.â Jax said, a little too aggressively, when he turned back to the twisted twin.
âWell, Kaufmo back then didnât. This one does!â AIngle said, inching Kaufmo closer to Jax, who stepped back even more. âI can make him do whatever I want. Including hugging and kissing his pathetic pet bunny.â
As she says that, she dragged the body closer to Jax. The lifeless arms almost touching his shoulders.
Jax, moved back again, unknowingly backing himself against the body of ribbons, until he was trapped in between her and the clown.
AIngle started making kissing sounds, that made Jax cringe, âMwah mwah! Come on buddy, lemme pet behind your ears! Donât you miss me?â
âKaufmoâ started getting closer, Jax gritted his teeth, and turned his head away.
Pomni continued to watch, her face scrunching in disgust, as she watched the incredibly fucked up scene. A part of her felt bad for the rabbit. Though he wasnât, nor will ever be, Pomniâs favorite person in the circus, this was too far of a joke. Whether a jackass like Jax deserved it or not.
Nobody deserved to be taunted, with the corpse of someone they were close to.
She wouldnât want to see this happening to Kinger with his wife, or Gangle with Ragatha, or herself with anyone she might consider close to to her.
You know what? Fuck it.
She died once, itâs bound to happen again.
May as well try and get used to it.
It might even save her of whatâs left of her sanity, if she tries to adapt to the feeling.
Feeling uncharacteristically bold, she made her way to them.
Pomni admits, part of her wished she was less brazen with her words, but that spur of the moment part of her, spoke without thinking. âAIngle. Fuck off.â
Understandably caught off guard, the AI sister stopped with her taunting and turned her head to the ballerina.
Gangle and Jax, who were also equally surprised, looked at Pomni with wide eyes.
Confusing changed to irk, as she raised her eyebrow at the wooden doll. âExcuse me? I mustâve misheard you back there.â
âThen let me repeat myself. Fuck off.â Pomni said, more aggressively. No turning back now. Itâd be more embarrassing to take it back.
âPuppeteering these bodies are for the show. Not for your entertainment. Put the clown back with the other bodies, and stop messing with Jax.â Pomni said, in a commanding tone.
âAnd why do you suddenly care about the bunny? Doesnât everyone hate him? I say, Iâm doing something nice for everyone else he messed with.â AIngle said, her lips curling up in a smirk. Though, anyone with eyes could tell, she was still pissed.
âHeâs already fucked in the head as it is. Thereâs no need for you to make him an even bigger psycho, and an even bigger problem.â Pomni replied.
She wasnât sure if that was her reason. Actually, she not even sure, what her reason for defending Jax could be. Sure she felt bad, but sheâs not usually risking her life to defend someone. Even if she wonât be dead forever. Still, that didnât stop her.
AIngle let go Kaufmoâs body and let it drop to the ground. âAnd what makes you think, you can tell me what to do?â She jabbed her ribbon hand, at the center of Pomniâs face, where her nose should be.
âYouâre not abstracted yet. But, I can still take over your body, and turn you into a real ventriloquist dummy. The best part? Youâd be conscious to see how I can easily control you!â She threatens the brunette doll, grinning evilly at her.
âYou canâŚ.â Pomni said, her voice cracking, her nervousness showing. But quickly as it slipped, she put her brave face back on. âBut, you wonât!â
âRemember? Iâm Caineâs favorite. If you try to do anything to me before I even abstract, heâd be really pissed at you for ruining his prized possession.â
Pomni internally cringed at herself for that one. She doesnât usually like playing that card. She never really cared for the favoritism. So long as sheâs not on Caineâs bad side, thatâs enough for her.
But at this moment, she was doing and saying the exact opposite of what she would usually do.
âOooh~! Prima Failerinaâs suddenly using her princess privileges~?â AIngle said in a mocking tone. Still, Pomni didnât miss that eye twitch.
She brought her face closer to the doll, staring her down. âLittle bitch, suddenly wants to use the ringmaster as a shield, huh.â
She moved her face away, but her eyes remained on her. And continued, âYouâre only favored for your pretty face. Youâre lucky to be brought into this world, in this body. Otherwise, you wouldnât be interesting in any way to him. You mean as much to Caine, as a brand new doll means to a child. Once you get tattered and depreciated, he wonât care if youâre safe or not.â
Jax had already moved away from the mask, but was too intrigued by the scene before him to leave.
AIngle let out a dry laugh, âBut, youâre rightâŚâ She said bitterly. âAs Caineâs precious doll, I canât hurt you on purpose.â
She shrugged. âBut, I can ignore you. And do whatever I want with the others. Since, I wonât be in trouble for messing with the already depreciated toys.â
She turned away from Pomni, and picked Kaufmo back up. âOhhh bunny boy~!â She called out, as her ribbons wrapped around Jax and pulled him back in for another game of dead dolls.
âWould you get off me, freak!â Jax tried to wriggle out of the ribbons.
âWhy should I? Iâm giving you more time with your friend.â AIngle started letting put sadistic giggles, and she continued her own self-entertainment.
âLet go of him, and put Kaufmo back.â Pomni butted in once again.
âAnd what are you gonna do? Little miss wooden joints?â AIngle taunted again, looking down at Pomni. âI may not be able to do whatever I want with you, without getting an earful from Caine. But, what can YOU do other than yap at me like a stubborn chihuahua?â
Pomni silently glared at her for a couple of seconds, her eyes narrowed and face infuriated. Her fist clenched and shaking.
She then moved her eyes to an object on the ground.
It was Jaxâs bat. A large piece of wood with a disturbing amount of nails hammered into it. He mustâve dropped it in the middle of the trying to avoid Kaufmoâs body.
Pomni didnât know why, but she walked towards it, and picked it up. She then made her way back to the grinning twin.
âHaha! You wouldnât.â AIngle said with a confident voice. âNot after the last time.â
Acting without thinking, Pomni replied, âIf itâll get you to finally fuck off⌠then Iâll take my chances.â And she swung the bat towards the grinning piece of porcelain.
The force of the bat cracked the twin into several pieces, the nails also cutting into the ribbons restraining Jax, setting him free.
Pomni immediately pulled Jax away from Gangle and shoved him away as hard she could.
Just as she had already anticipated, Gangle started having another meltdown. Her face contorted into a horrific frown, and her ribbons lunged at Pomni, wrapping around her neck and waist.
Pomni was brutally thrashed around a few times, before the corrupted Gangle dragged her off somewhere else to slowly murder.
Jax was just there⌠on the ground. Staring off to where the ballerina was dragged off to.
He looked at Kaufmo, whose body was abandoned on the floor, and little bits of porcelain next to him.
The rabbit stood up and walked towards lifeless clown, picking him up and positioning him in a piggyback ride.
As he carried his friend, the image of the wooden dollâs face flashed back in his mind.
EhâŚ.
He wasnât good at saying âthank youâ, nor did he like saying it. So, he wonât be thanking Pomni.
But, heâll be sure to say something to her when she comes back.
~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~
Iâll probably make a part two.
Tbh, it was pretty hard trying to make them in character in this AU, while still shipping them. Iâm a Funnybunny shipper, but when it comes to the Freakshow AU, I lean more towards Showtime. But, I wanted to take up the challenge of trying to make them âshippableâ even in this AU.
So what do you guys thinkâŚ.?

FunnyBunny Interaction I came up with while falling asleep last night.
Jax: Hey Pompom. Tell me a joke.
Pomni: Donât call me that- and Iâm not all that funny.
Jax: Whaaat? Youâre a jester, itâs your job to be funny.
Pomni: Itâs not my job, I just look like this.
Jax: Come ooon Pompom, tell me why the chicken crossed the road.
Pomni: *eye twitch* Oh yeah, well, what does that make your job, huh?! Youâre a rabbit, maybe youâre trying to steal cereal from a bunch of kids! Or maybe you have to hide a bunch of eggs all around the circus! Or! OR! Maybe you need to steal a bunch of vegetables from Mr. McGregorâs garden!!! So which is it, wise-@$&?!
Jax: *unfazed, checking his nails* Nah, itâs none of that. You wanna know my one and only job as a rabbit? *Bends down to her level* **Makinâ lots of babies.**
Pomni, who is now the color of a raspberry: I-I-I-
Jax: Heheheh, I donât know what youâre talkinâ about. That face is really funny.

finally watched the Black Clover movie!!
so many thoughts lol, so ofc I had to make a post sorting them all out,, [warning; spoilers to the manga!]
I liked the movie overall but there were some things that just didn't sit with me well. The biggest of which is where the movie fits into canon timelineâ it would have suited better at some other point, I think. Maybe it's because I've caught up to the manga but considering everything that's about to happen and everything that has happened before, I feel like the placing is just not the best.
I liked the parallel of Conrad and Asta but the fact that 4 former Wizard Kings all say that the position is not enough to fix Clover Kingdom is a bit đ like, that's 4 vastly different people who worked their way up to becoming Wizard Kings. Surely, they know what they're talking about?! I have no clue how Asta can change the country to that extent (but I'm a big supporter of the idea of killing Augustus Kira Clover the first chance we get) but considering the latest arc, I can see the start of it happening in the aftermath of the climax.
I liked all the villains but Mr. Barrier Magic (I forgot his name...) was probably my favourite. I love that bit about how there's no right and wrong, just beliefs. Isn't that what it is a lot of time? A bunch of grey shades, a goal you believe in, and the means you use to get to that goal. But, means can be evaluated as right or wrong. I suppose the fundamental basis of this view is that there is no objective morality. Morality is always subjective and relative to each individual and culture. The philosophy student in me liked that bit~
I also loved the parallel of Princia Funnybunny (I'll never forget that surname đ it was so unexpectedly cute) and Mereoleona, especially considering the recent fight of Morris and Mereoleona where she also talked about loneliness. They are both similar but what makes them different is that Mereoleona had Fuegoleon and Leopold (and the rest of the Crimson Lions!). Although the two of them aren't the same level as her, they always believed in her and were by her side and kept pushing themselves against her. I don't think Princia had someone like that, making her lose faith in peopleâ the reason she couldn't draw strength from comrades, unlike Mereoleona.
Honestly, the timeline and main conflict being 4 former Wizard Kings are the only two problems I had. The rest of the movie was amazing imho; the animation was really good and so was the music!
I was surprised to find the ending song was also done by Treasure. I felt like it was a k-pop artist when the song started but I wasn't sureâ I didn't know Treasure had done two songs for Black Clover. It was really good too!
Over-all, the movie was a 6/10 for me, but that's just my opinion. I don't know what others felt about it and I don't really know any other fans to discuss this stuff with either so I ended up letting out all my thoughts in this post. This post is not meant as hate towards any character or the movie itself, it's just my perspective!
if anyone bothered to read this whole thing, I hope I didn't waste your time hahaha~

TADC Episode 2 Thoughts
Jax continues to be my babygirl. He sucks so much and makes absolutely 0 effort to be a better person every day. Yes, boy, give us NOTHING!!
Okay, this isn't necessarily true. This does, however, feel like it lines up into my headcanoned backstory for Jax being some kind of spoiled upstart who is used to getting his way and disconnecting himself from other people - I really liked the idea of him being the son of the boss, so that's where my ideas remain. There's definitely something connecting him to keys. That's why I think he has a debug key, or a keylogger in his system that no one else does. Too bad it's just cheat codes to nonsense adventures that don't mean anything. His hyperviolent streak is new, but it checks out.
Pomni got a bit snarkier this episode, which I really liked. I truly do think that her and Jax would have SUCH a good dynamic...if they weren't pushed to opposite sides of the plot. I truly do feel like she's the one person who could possibly yank him by the ears and say "Hey, stop that." and he might even consider listening. Funnybunny was neither proven nor disproven in this episode.
That is more than I can say for Showtime, though! Yeouch! Getting ahead of myself.
Pomni and Ragatha...do not seem to be close and I can't blame Pomni for that. Ragatha does kind of feel like she's condescending to her at times with her people-pleaser ways, and I can see how that'd be upsetting to say the least. I don't see any chemistry for them, though, if I'm being honest. It seems like since the first episode the gap has only widened to slot into this awkward space...they seem like they can be friends, but shipping-wise this one sure took a turn.
Oh Gangle. Sweet Gangle. Submissive and agreeable Gangle. You probably deserved better in this episode, but at least you got to drive. Kinger didn't even get that. Zooble didn't even go.
And...Gummigoo. Man. Yeah. There went Caine, with all that. The 'friendly Caine' ideas are going down pretty fast. I liked Gummi as a character - he brought something unique to the table that I thought could've been capitalized on as an NPC who discovered the true nature of his world...but Caine said enough was enough and killed the poor sucker. Well. It is what it is.
The theory is going around now also about the main cast maybe having an npc amogus, but...I dunno how to feel about that. The obvious choice WOULD be Jax, but I kind of don't want it to be. I can see appeal on multiple sides for that, though.
Also, yeah, the visual gags were better than the verbal ones this ep. Overall, pretty solid. 7/10.

A Good Luck Charm (for funnybunny writing week)
Read on AO3
In a world where the fae walk among mortals, a disguised jackrabbit named Jax finds a mortal named Pomni alone at a park. Feeling sympathy for her struggles, Jax casts a small good luck charm for a few hours to help her. However, even if the charm lasted for a day, it wouldn't be the last time that the fae saw the human.
IMMA BETA READ THIS IN THE MORNING I PROMISE JUST PLEASE TAKE THIS ITS BEEN SO LONG SINCE IVE WRITTEN ANYTHING!!!!!
The fae had always existed. They have been right in front of you, yet you never even spared a glimpse. Whether it was a siren hiding beneath the murky waters, or a pixie hopping from flower to flower, theyâre not so human features were hidden from the everyday mortals.
Years ago, the king and queen of the fae realm had discovered a portal to the worlds of mortals. They had considered keeping this secret to themselves, knowing that they were some fae with tricks up their sleeves that aimed to do more harm than good. However, they know someone would find out eventually, and cause more uproar.
And so, a law was stated: those who wanted to enter the fae realm were to use a glamour to hide their magical forms and use minimum to none of their powers unless it was an emergency. The law had been strict and for good reason, many fae had tested to see what they could get away with and had found themselves behind the prison walls of the castle prison.
It wasnât to say no magic could be use. Whether it was the glamour spells themselves, or a chant to help them through everyday tasks like cooking. But under no circumstances could they perform curses, hexes, or use a spell to own a humanâs name and soul.
It was surprising to everyone that the fae that strongly agreed with the king and queenâs law was none other than Jax the jackrabbit.
The werebeast had proven many times how mischievous he could be with his spells. Whether it was using it to replace hair cleanser with syrup, temporally turn his fellow fae into different species using illusions, or creating booby traps with the magical material he had. It was definitely whiplash with how much Jax approved of the royal coupleâs decision, not even their own son Prince Caine agreed.
Yes, Jax was well⌠an ass. But he knew that interfering with mortals was an unfair power imbalance, and he himself knew all too well about that. Werebeasts were always looked down upon by other fae, especially jackrabbits and how so many fae saw them as âweakâ. Maybe it was why Jax acted the way he did, to prove those stereotypes wrong. But he knew from experience the type of entitlement people felt when seeing something they saw as insignificant to them.
While he did pull a few tricks here and there in the mortal realm, it was usually something small like spilling a drink on someoneâs clothes or turning a possession they had invisible â it was always funny seeing them run around looking for it. And he always made sure to do these misdeads to people who actually deserved it, whether it was overpowered rich man talking down to a waiter, or an entitled customer demanding a refund at Ragathaâs bakery.
Speaking of which, was where the disguised jackrabbit found himself. Many fae had started up their own lives in the human realm, whether it was falling in love, starting a business or even wanting a change of pace from the chaos of the fae realm. Once of those being Ragatha, an enchanted ragdoll come to life. Her kind and gentle nature had to be even sweeter than the treats she baked for the mortals who visited her shop.
She and Jax had been friends throughout their childhood, with the former acting like an older sister to the rabbit. At times they butted heads, with Ragatha often times being quite overbearing and Jax too mischievous. But when push came to shove, they always supported one another, just like how any sibling would.
The ragdoll handed a small paper bag to Jax over the counter, her glamour hiding her plush form and instead showed a tall woman with curly red hair and an eye patch covering one of her deep brown eyes.
Jax nodded to her in thanks, handing over his cash as well as putting a few paper notes in the tip jar beside her cash register. His usual purple fur was replaced with dark brown skin, along with brown eyes and black dreads pulled into a short ponytail. It was nearly Ragathaâs lunch break, so Jax liked to use that time beforehand to make sure that no ill-willed mortals bothered her with useless demands or complaints they made up on the spot.
The day had been peaceful, the customers pleasant and Ragatha been sickly sweet as usual. She had even prepared Jax two ham and cheese croissants for his own lunch. âSorry about the extra one, I overdid in the kitchen earlier but at least youâve got something to eat,â her smile was apologetic.
Jax waved his wand in dismissal, âAll good rags, Iâm sure Zooble wouldnât mind trying this.â
âYeah. I think Iâve gotta put out some job applicants soon. Itâs getting a little hard baking and sorting out the registerâ she huffed tiredly, untying her apron. âWell, Iâm closing up for the lunch hour. Are you gonna be okay?â
âIâll be fine,â Jax grinned. âBesides, what could I possibly do while Iâm alone dollface?â
Ragatha whipped round with a scowl, âJax you better behave! And I told you not to call me that!â
The man snickered, pointing a finger to his cheek, âCome on! You like that nickname! Besides, you always know I donât get caught.â
Ragatha growled, her face softening with concern, âNot yet. You donât know who might catch you when you least expect it. I know the law says to use minimal magic, but I donât want you to push it.â
âHey, I practiced my spells for years now. Iâll be fine,â Jax gave her a reassuring smile. âBesides, the ones I do it to are too self-absorbed to notice anything.â
âJust be careful, please?â Ragathaâs brows furrowed. âYou never know who might catch you, mortal or not.â
It wasnât a paranoid fear. Both of them knew what would happen if the wrong person would catch fae magic. Whether it was a mortal who could abuse that knowledge, or another fae who could use it for blackmail and benefit themselves while the recipient suffers. Jax knew this all too well and was why he well versed himself with magic and the concerns that came with it when entering the mortal realm. Despite his pranks, he was always careful.
âIâll be fine rags, nothing has stopped me yet, besides,â Jax smiled, turning slightly darker with his next sentence, a hint of his true formâs Cheshire grin behind the glamour spell. âThey donât know just how dangerous I can get.â
âEw, put that away,â Ragatha squirmed with a laugh. âThat smile always freaks me out when you use it with your human face.â
Jax snorted, his smile returning to pearly teeth once again, âSorry dollface, you know I like messing with you.â
âAlright, out!â Ragatha chortled, throwing a damp towel at him.
Jax let out a yelp as he rushed out of the door, unable to wipe the smile off his face. For all the teasing, he did care for Ragatha like she was truly his sister. Jax shook his head, bringing the paper bag up to his nose and breathed in the delicious scent of the croissant from inside. Ragatha always outdid herself when it came to cooking and baking. With just a sprinkle of magic and a ton of hard work, she made the best pastries on both the fae and mortal realm.
Rolling his shoulders back, he set off towards the townâs park. It was the place that reminded him the most of home, with winding paths, beautiful flora and the sun peaking out of the autumn tree leaves that felt oh so similar to the magical feeling of wandering the enchanted forest back home. It might not be home, but it certainly was beautiful.
It was where he liked to take refuge and eat when he wasnât pranking anyone, on his usual bench in front of the rippling river. Although when he was walking towards it, it seemed that his usual spot had been occupied instead. Â
A short young woman, perhaps in her twenties, with short brown hair and dressed in a long-sleeved blouse and pencil skirt. Her hair was frizzy, sticking out in places, food stains on her shirt and bags under her eyes. She looked exhausted.
However, her eyes were focused on a pencil and paper she clutched in her hands, sketching away without paying mind to any of her surroundings.
Jax raised an eyebrow, now this was certainly new. And whenever something new was plopped onto his lap, he needed to grasp the opportunity to explore it. He slowly stepped towards her, making sure she couldnât hear him coming before speaking in hushed whisper, âI see youâve stolen my spot.â
A strangled gasp mixed with a scream left the womanâs mouth, scowling when she found the culprit to her fright, âDude! What the fuck is wrong with you! Donât sneak up on people like that!â
Jax couldnât help but laugh. It was the cheapest trick in the books, but it was still funny as hell. He cleared his throat as he calmed down, âSorry, couldnât help it. I donât think Iâve seen you around here before.â
The woman sighed, the frustration leaving her as she mindlessly returned to her drawing, âI havenât been here in a while. I used to come here all the time before starting my job. Seems like forever ago.â Â
The fiery nature that she had displayed fizzled out quickly, like a cheap sparkler from a supermarket. Jaxâs brows furrowed, usually someone with an inner fire such as the woman wouldnât have let out that spark so suddenly. It wasnât really fun when someone was like that, it took the fun out of it. âCan I?â he pointed to the empty spot beside the bench.
The woman looked up to see what he was doing, giving him a curt nod before Jax sat down beside her.
âSo what brings you here now?â Jax asked, becoming more curious for the human.
âNostalgia and self-pity,â she replied with blunt honesty. Jax had to bite back a laugh, it didnât feel like the time or place. âIt was always my main inspiration for art. Iâd get so many ideas and then draw them out the minute I got them. It was always my passion that passed me through my art classes. However art commissions and a childhood dream alone doesnât help you through college debt. Itâs a good thing Iâm good with numbers, even if the job that comes with it is soul sucking.â
Ah yes, the average mortal office job. From how others described it, Jax would have been convinced that it was an unholy cursed fortress that stole the spirits of anyone who entered. And while it wasnât quite what he thought it would be, he didnât want to spend time in one of those buildings to find out. This woman had the heart of a warrior for making it this long. âWhy not try and continue your passion for art if you love it so much?â Jax asked. âWhy let this job stop you?â
The woman sniffed, âAs if I havenât tried before. But corporate greed is a strong foe. Theyâll try and do anything than hire and pay genuine talent these days. You have no idea how disheartening it is to see something youâve poured your entire life into be thrown away just because someone is too entitled to give you a chance.â She groaned, wiping away a frustrated tear. âGod Iâm insane, why am I telling a random stranger this?!â
âWhy wouldnât you? Iâm very charming,â he gave her a grin, trying to bring back some of the charm to see if it could lift the situation. Judging by her growl it didnât. âIgnore what I just said. Look, the point is, youâve sunk yourself to the lowest point that you could ever imagine by venting to a random guy youâve met at the park.â
âWow, yeah, thanks for the reminder,â she rolled her eyes.
Jax cringed, yeah he understood how that sounded, âOkay, ignore that as well. Right now, youâre at a point in your life where youâre letting yourself be miserable. That doesnât sound like a life worth living.â
The woman sighed, her face softening as she brought her knees up on the bench and hugged them, âYeah, I know. But what other path is there for me to take?â
âOne that makes you happy,â Jax stated.
âEasier said than done,â the woman looked towards him.
âIs it?â Jax tilted his head. This mortal was definitely stubborn. âOr have you wallowed so much to not realise that a better path is there for you?â
That seemed to have struck a nerve if the look on the womanâs face said anything. She looked back down to her notepad, the flow of lines weaving together to begin a possible masterpiece. âI donât think Iâve actually finished a project since my job,â she whispered.
Jax heart panged. The only downside within the mortal world was the way that some humans would tear others so low to the point of being destroyed all for an extra coin. It was extremely disruptive to his carefree personality and made him feel sympathetic to random strangers. Like this woman.
Although it seemed that his words were getting through to her, with the way her eyes started to gleam as she looked over her sketch. Jax wasnât one to interfere with mortal lives, but this womanâŚher sad eyes was something that pulled on his heartstrings in way he never felt before.
He quietly snapped his fingers, the branches and leaves parting above the little wooden tree canopy above them to reveal the sun sparkling on the lake in front of them. Jaxâs pulse quickened when he saw how the womanâs eyes shone, gripping her pencil tighter as she began to draw again, quicker than before.
It was just a simple good luck spell, nothing more and nothing noticeable. Just something to help her out. He was only doing it because it wasnât fun when humans were sad. Yes, that was it. Nothing else at all. It didnât stop him from pulling the spare croissant out of his paper bag. âThey gave me an extra with my order,â he said, holding it out in front of her. Want one?â
She shook her head, âNo thanks, Iâm not hun-â The growl of her stomach interrupted her, making her blush. Â
Jax snickered before breaking out into a full belly laugh, making the womanâs face flush even more red. âWhatâs that about artists never taking a break? I always thought that was a myth,â Jax snorted.
âOh haha,â the woman furrowed her brows, but wasnât able to hold back her smile.
Jax froze. Oh godsâŚher smile was more beautiful than a charm itself.
âHey, you gonna pass that croissant or what?â she giggled.
âU-uh yeah,â Jax gulped, blinking before handing it to her, taking his out first so she could hold the bag and not get her fingers dirty. âBy the way, can I ask what your name is?â Jax always had to be careful when asking a mortalâs name, just so it didnât result in an ownership spell. He always despised fae who used those spells.
The woman wiped away a crumb from her lips before replying, âIâm Pomni.â
âPomniâŚitâs nice to meet you Pomni,â Jax smiled.
âNice to meet you tooâŚuh whatâs your name?â Pomni asked.
âJax,â
âWell then, Jax, itâs nice to meet you too,â her eyes sparkled before biting into her croissant. She let out a groan at the taste. âOh my god this is amazing! Where did you get this?!â
Jaxâs stomach fluttered, as though she had performed her own spell on him, âUm, my friend Ragatha own a bakery up the street. You should visit it sometime.â
Pomni hummed through her bite, âMaybe I will.â
The two continued their meal in silence. Jax smiled one more time, this mortal surely was interesting. Maybe fate would let them meet again one day.
And it seemed fate was listening, for when Pomni looked at the name of the bakery on the paper bag, she recalled Jaxâs words. Or have you wallowed so much to not realise that a better path is there for you?
Maybe he was right. Maybe there was a better path.
.
.
.
It had been a few days since that day at the park, yet Jax couldnât stop thinking about Pomni. She was like the first chapter of a book, introducing a story that lured him in yet there were the only pages he was given, leaving behind curiosity. But he knew that it wasnât likely that he would see her again. She was only one mortal out of many.
But still, she was nice.
It was another day, the wind was getting colder and nipping at his cheeks. Winter was getting closer, so he was on his way to Ragathaâs to warm up with food and drink. The bell on top of the door jingled once it Jax opened it, rubbing his hands to try and warm them up, âHey Rags, I hope Iâm not to early. Am I good to have my usual-â He paused, it wasnât Ragatha behind the register, âPomni?â
The woman looked up from the register, pausing from sorting out paper bills to see the familiar man in front of her, âJax?! Hey, itâs good to see you again.â She wasnât in the office blouse and skirt like the last time he saw her. Instead, she was in a long cotton skirt with a blue and white checkered shirt with small fluffy sleeves, all tied together with an apron.
Jax wanted to burst, she looked so fucking adorable, âPomni?! What brings you here?â
âWell, I kinda thought about what you said the other day,â she told him. âAnd I wanted to come here to see what else they served here. Maybe I was impulsive, but when I heard that Ragatha was hiring someone to take care of the finance part here, I decided to put in my application. Long story short I got the job, quit my old place and now Iâm here. The pay is actually really good!â
All part of the fae abilities Jax spoke internally. He knew hat the fae were financially secure, the hobby that came with the job was just a perk. So that meant that most of the pay that was made all went to Pomni, no wonder it was better than her last job.
But she seemed much brighter than last time, no bags under her eyes and her beautiful smile was on full display once again. His heart skipped a beat, she may be mortal but her smile was pure magic. Â
âHey Jax, your order is nearly ready,â Ragatha came out from behind the kitchen, wearing a red version of the shirt Pomni was wearing. âHave you met Pomni? Sheâs made my life a hell of a lot easier being here. Sheâs so good with numbers!â
Pomni blushed, shaking her head, âSheâs exaggerating. But yeah, we actually met last week at Circlevale park.â
âOh, you did?â Ragatha turned her head to Jax, raising an eyebrow at him.
âYeah, I was having a rough day but this guy gave me the courage to find a new job,â Pomni gleamed. âEven if he decided to scare me first.â
âJax!â Ragatha exclaimed, scowling as she put a protective hand on Pomniâs shoulder.
âHey this is me weâre talking about! What else did ya expect?â His usual Cheshire grin returned.
Pomni turned to Ragatha, âI take it that heâs always like this?â
âOh you have no idea hun,â Ragatha deadpanned. âHeâs lucky he hasnât been thrown in a ditch yet.â
âPpphh!â Pomni put a hand over her mouth to hide her laughter, even if it was a poor job doing so.
Even her laugh felt like a chant to him.
Ragatha looked between the two, her face becoming serious as she analysed the way the disguised jackrabbit looked at the human, âHey Jax, could you come to the back to collect your order? We need to talk.â
Her teeth were grit together. Jax gulped, he was in trouble.
âIâll be right back Pomni, you just keep doing what youâre doing,â she smiled softly at the girl.
The brunette grinned back, focusing on the register again.
Jax sucked in a breath as Ragatha led him to the kitchen, having a feeling that he knew exactly what she was going to say.
She stopped behind the flour dusted countertop, turning round to him, her face stern like a mother about to scold her child. âYou wanna tell me why a human who met you spontaneously quit her job just to work for me? This better be a coincidence and not you trying some new prank on this poor girl!â Ragatha hissed, her voice low and dangerous. Â
Jax felt the hair rising on his neck, the ragdoll could be terrifying when she wanted to be, âOkay, I know how this looks. Just hear me out, please.â
Ragatha crossed her arms, motioning for him to continue.
The man let out a sigh of relief, âWe did meet at the park the other day, but I swear this isnât a trick!â He held his hands up in defence. âAll I did was a small good luck charm, but nothing that would lead to this! Just to help cheer her up!â Ragatha raised a brow at him. âI swear!â
The redhead crossed her arms, concern lacing her features, âIâm just worried that you might slip up. And I know, I know. Youâre always careful. But youâve met this girl and have casted a luck charm on her, youâve never done that for anyone before. Even if luck charms arenât deep spells or dark magic, itâs the fact that you were vulnerable towards this mortal to feel like you had to cast this for her.â
Jax scowled. He knew she wasnât doing this intentionally but it felt like she was comparing him to Prince Caine. Jax grimaced, just even thinking about Caine made his stomach churn. He was nothing but a leach who felt entitled to owning anything and anyone to do whatever he wanted, disguised over his overly positive persona of a naĂŻve prince who didnât know any better. At least Jax was upfront about his flaws, and not hiding behind a mask like that disgraceful heir.
âI know you think that, but youâre wrong,â Jax stated. âI cast a luck charm because I donât believe anyone, mortal or fae, should be oppressed by those who deem themselves above them. I cast the charm, but she left that job on her own accord. She chose to work here on her own accord. She chose to be happy on her own accord. All I did was give her the option and the push.â He placed his hands on her shoulders. âI know what Iâm doing, please. Trust me.â
Ragatha sighed, there was still a voice in the back of her head telling her that something was going to happen, but she didnât want to be clouded with judgement in case it affected Pomni or Jax. âOk,â she looked up. âBut if anything happens I will chop you up and serve you as rabbit stew. Are we clear?â
Jax went stiff, a bead of sweat rolling down his temple, âYes maâamâ
âGood,â Ragatha picked up a scone and placed it into a paper bag, handing it to Jax. âNow go pay up with my new assistant. And donât forget to leave her a tip.â
âYou wound me Rags, Iâm decent enough to tip,â Jax put a hand to his chest in mock hurt.
Ragatha rolled her eyes, pushing him back out to the front before going back to baking.
Jax exited the kitchen, stepping back out into the main area as he faced the brunette once again. She was serving another customer once of the desserts in the display area before typing up his check and sending him on his way. The way she was quick to piece together the math of the items picked, not even needing to use the automatic calculator on the register, relying on her mind alone. Ragatha was right, she was good with numbers.
Pomni turned to him, âYou all figured out?â
âYeah, yeah,â Jax nodded. âRagatha just needed me for something.â
âOkay, whatâs your order for today?â she asked, straightening her back professionally.
âJust this scone,â Jax placed the bag on the scale next to the register.
âAnd your total isâŚtwo dollars,â she told him. âAre you paying cash or card?â
He fished out his card from his bag, maybe sure to place a ten inside of her tip jar. Pomni smiled one last time at him. At that moment, when his heart skipped a beat when seeing that smile did he decide that he wanted to see her again, âUm, are you busy this week? By any chance?â
The mortal was caught off-guard by the question, but still answered anyway, âOh, well I do have my shifts here Monday to Friday, but I have weekends off.â
âWell, would you like toâŚum,â Jax rubbed the back off his neck. Mortal movies made this look so easy!
âWould I like to what?â Pomni grinned, slightly mischievous.
Little minx, âHang out?â Jax suggested. âGrab a coffee? See a movie? Go back to the park again?â
Pomniâs cheeks turned pink at the implication of the question, âAre you asking me on a date?â
Jax cleared his throat, âWould you like it to be a date?â
âI donât know, do you?â her grin was back.
Jax smirked, two can play at that game, âI do actually. I wanna take this beautiful girl in front of me on the date of her choice and treat her with the respect she deserves.â He leaned down, his confidence returning. âHowâs that little lady?â
Pomni flushed, not expecting the sudden boldness, âI-I can go to the park on Sunday afternoon.â She smiled shyly, yet excited at the same time.
Jax felt his heartbeat quicken, this was really happening, âGreat. Would you like to give me your number?â
She held out her hand, with Jax placing his phone into it as she typed the number into his contact. He had to stop himself from jumping for joy as he placed it back into his pocket. âIâll see you Sunday.â
âSee you Sunday,â Pomni repeated, folding her hands together.
Jax waved to her as he stepped out the door, a new warmth rushing through him despite the winter chill. Sunday couldnât come fast enough.
.
.
.
They spent the entire winter together, visiting each other, finding out their hobbies, making messes in the kitchen whenever Jax tried to teach Pomni to cook (yet failing every time), but their main spot had to be the very park they met in.
Jax couldnât deny it, he was falling in love with Pomni. And he was falling hard. But he couldnât help it, she had him under a spell, and he didnât care one bit.
When spring finally came, they found themselves more at the park and on the bench where he first found her. Overtime, Pomni had become more comfortable with touch around Jax, with her currently resting her legs over his lap and resting her head on his shoulder and Jax wrapped his arms around her.
âCan I tell you something?â Pomni murmured, picking up his hand and playing with his fingers.
âOh yeah, whatâs that?â Jax intertwined their fingers together.
âI think you made my life better by meeting you,â she admitted. âI canât describe it, but after meeting you, everything just felt so much clearer. I think youâre pretty amazing.â
Jax chuckled, holding her closer, âI think youâre amazing too.â
âAnd I think my art has become more special,â she told him. She sat up, âI have something else to tell youâŚIâm submitting my art into an art exhibition next month.â
Jaxâs eyes widened, still holding her in his arms as he stood, âPomni thatâs awesome! You did it!â
âJax oh my god! Put me down you idiot!â Pomni laughed, wrapping her arms around his neck, unable to contain their shared excitement.
Jax had fallen so deeply in love with her. He wanted to do everything with her, help her build her dreams, smile as they fell asleep together, kiss her as though she was his last breath of air. But first, he had to tell her about his true origins. But not now, they would enjoy this moment now.
Both of them giggled and cheered, so wrapped up in their own little world of joy. Their own little magical bubbleâŚ
That neither of them realized a pair of eyes watching them afarâŚ
.
.
.
Jax looked in the mirror as he fixed a stray piece of hair back into place. Today was the day he was going to tell Pomni the truth about himself. He wanted to tell her how he felt so badly, but he knew he couldnât have an honest relationship with her without mentioning the fae part of himself. All he had to hope was that she still saw him as who he is, without panicking about his rabbit features.
She would be here any minute, he had already had the coffee machine turned on as well as her usual snack whenever she visited. He wanted to make sure she felt comfortable before saying anything. To take the pressure off her.
Knock, knock
Jax sucked in a breath, she was here. He brushed off his shirt one more time before answering the door. He opened it, expecting to see the same smiling brunette before welcoming her in, but this time, she looked terrified.
âHey,â he reached a hand towards her, pulling back when he saw her flinch. âIs everything okay?â
âI-I,â she stammered, walking into the apartment. âItâs hard to explain. It all happened so quickly and I didnât know what was happening and I donât know what to do or where to go and Iâm freaking out Iâm really scared right now-â
Jax shut the door, leading her to the couch and sitting her down. âItâs okay, breathe, Iâm here,â he started a breathing exercise, one that would help her calm down. Once he saw her repeating them, he got up to make her usual coffee, grabbing a small bag of popcorn before sitting bag down again.
He placed the warm mug in her hands, letting her take a sip as her nerves became steadier, âFeeling a bit better?â
Pomni nodded slowly.
âGood, take another breath and tell me what happened,â he told her, already listening.
âItâs gonna sound stupid,â she muttered.
âDonât worry, youâre talking to the king of stupid here,â Jax nudged her shoulder lightly, that got a quirk of a smile from her, but it disappeared as quickly as it came.
âYou wonât believe me,â her voice was barely a whisper.
âHey,â he took her hand in his. âTrust me when I say Iâll believe anything you say.â
She gulped, taking a breath, âI was walking through the park yesterday and I saw a man by the lake. I though nothing of it at first before he reached out to me, asking for help. I went over to him and it looked like he was crying. I got scared, I didnât want to leave him so I asked if he was alright. He then asked for my name, so I told himâŚthatâs when he smiled. Then he wasnât a man anymore, but he was a body with teeth and eyes for a head!â
Jax heart plummeted, no.
âI looked around but it was like no one could see us,â she sniffled. âThat was when he told me that he owned me, that I was hisâŚfiancĂŠ. I thought this was a weird dream, that I would wake up soon. But then I saw this ring on my finger.â She showed Jax. âI tried getting it off, but each attempt was so painful, and it kept proving that I definitely wasnât dreaming. He said I had some time but heâll be back for our wedding.â
She looked back up to Jax, his eyes wide and mouth slightly open.
âJax you have to believe me!â Pomniâs voice trembled. âI donât know what to do! I donât know if heâs watching me right now! Iâm so scared!â
âHey, hey,â he cradled her face in his hands. âI believe you.â
âY-you do?â Pomniâs voice trembled. âHow?â
âBecauseâŚâ Jax grimaced. Of all the ways he wanted to tell her, this was far from what he had in mind. âBecause Iâm one of them.â
Before Pomni could say another word, Jaxâs human features melted away. In his place and clothes stood a tall, fit rabbit like man stood in front of her. Pomniâs words were stuck in her throat, the feeling of his fur hands on her cheeks was the only thing helping her stay grounded. âT-that day in the parkâŚdid you trick me too?!â
âNo!â Jax winced as she flinched at his volume. âNo, all I did that day was cast a small good luck charm that would last a few hours. But that was it. Pomni, everything we have done together was all your choice. I know youâre scared and confused and you have every right to be. But everything weâve done together was the truth. I was gonna tell you, believe me I was. But not like this, and Iâm so sorry you had to find out this way.â
âT-the man who did this, who was he?â Pomni asked.
Jaxâs eyes became turn, a bitter taste on his tongue, âCaine. Heâs the prince from my realm. The reason why no one could see you was because of a cloaking spell. Thatâs how he managed to force the engagement on you.â
âYour realm?â Pomni tilted her head.
âThe fae realm, where people like me reside,â Jax explained. âCaine is the prince there. But he shouldnât have the authority to do this.â
Pomni trembled, tears leaking from her eyes again, âOh god, am I trapped?â
âNo,â Jaxâs voice was low as he shook his head. âIâm gonna get you out of this, there has to be something going on. Iâm not gonna let Caine do this to the woman I love-â
He froze.
He said it.
Pomniâs tearful eyes widened, her breath hitching.
Jaxâs didnât move, he didnât know what to do. But he had said it, and that word wasnât something he could reverse like a spell. He wanted to apologize, for adding more stress onto her shoulder. But he was interrupted by a pair of lips on his.
Pomniâs kiss was quick, like she was testing the waters, âIâm still confused, scared and mad. ButâŚI love you too.â
Jax let out a shaking breath of relief mixed with joy, pressing his forehead to hers, âIâm getting you out of this engagement.â
âBut what if Caine-â
âCaine isnât going to do anything, he isnât going to get away with hurting you like this,â Jax told her firmly. âI love you Pomni. Iâm gonna fix this.â
Pomni let out another sob, pressing her lips to his again.
Jax sighed, kissing her was like breathing new life to him. He didnât know where do start with getting right of the hex that Caine placed on her. But he did know this for sure. No one was going to take Pomni from him.
He was going to set her free.
But first things first, they had to get to the fae realmâŚ

Is it possible to write a Funnybunny/Buttonblossom story without Pomni? I dunno, but I just did. Anyway, this one is a little on the short side, but it took a complete 180 from where I was originally going with it. And I think the result is good, one of the better things Iâve written⌠That said, it is a little bit on the heavier side. So Iâll drop a small content warning just in case, but really it shouldnât be any rougher than your average romance movie. Hope you enjoy!
Young and Dumb
t/w: angst, relationship drama
Another day came to an end. The adventure, forgettable. Somewhat unpleasant, but nobody died or got maimed. Dinner was fine, digital spaghetti and meatballs. The performers said their goodbyes and headed off to bed. With the exception of two.
Ragatha left the tent, holding Layla, the music-playing microphone beetle that Kinger picked up from a few adventures ago. It was Ragathaâs turn with her, and the doll-woman wanted to savor the opportunity. She walked a long way to her favorite retreat; a copse (Dark Souls II taught her that word) far in the back of the woods by the Digital Lake. She didnât love the woods on account of her fear of bugs with too many legs, but there were so few places to be well and truly by herself around here. It was like what Kierkegaard said. There canât be joy without risk.
Or⌠maybe that was faith without risk. Who the hell was Kierkegaard anyway..? Eh.
She came to her small thicket, or âcopse.â It was distinguishable from the rest of the woods by the mossy boulder in the middle of it, softly illuminated by the digital starlight. Ragatha spent many evenings sitting on that boulder. Sometimes she cried for hours. Sometimes she screamed in rage until her voice was completely dried up. Sometimes she just laid on the boulder and stared at the sky. Once she laid there until dawn.
She first checked the rock for any insects, before sitting cross-legged on it, smoothing out her dress. She placed Layla down on her lap, the microphone-beetle looking up at her expectantly.
Ragatha: Layla, play⌠Into the Great Wide Open by Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers.
Layla nodded and began to play a heartland rock song. Ragatha closed her eye and let the music take her away. Hardly even realizing it, she began to sing along.
Ragatha: âEddie waited âtil he finished high school
He went to Hollywood, got a tattoo
He met a girl out there with a tattoo too
The future was wiiiide openâŚâ
Jax: Youâre kinda flat, Dollface.
Ragatha opened her eye and turned about on the boulder. Jax was leaning against a tree, his eyes also closed, with his hands tucked behind his head. Ragatha rolled her eye and tapped a hand to her lips.
Ragatha: Shh. Listen for a second.
The two of them remained quiet as Layla played Ragathaâs selected song. Ragatha swayed in time with the music, relishing every last note, before it concluded about three minutes later. She then smirked at Jax.
Ragatha: Ill met by moonlight, proud Jax.
Jax: Whatâd you say?
Ragatha: Itâs from Shakespeare. Whatâs up? If youâre here to put a centipede down my dress again, you might as well get it over with.
Jax: Nah. Itâs way funnier when youâre not expecting it. Can I join you? *points to the boulder*
Ragatha: Sure.
Ragatha scooted over as Jax strutted to the rock, sitting down and crossing a leg over one knee. There was a moment of somewhat awkward silence before Jax spoke up.
Jax: New kid is adjusting pretty well.
Ragatha: Mmm. Sheâs definitely a fighter. At least in an emotional way.
Jax: Think sheâll outlast us?
Ragatha: Come on, Jax, you know I donât like thinking about whoâs gonna abstract next. Hopefully nobody.
Jax: Thatâll be the day.
Ragatha: âŚWell, I know for a fact itâs harder to completely give up hope when you have feelings for someone.
Jax shot Ragatha a look, who met it with a small, confident smile. The rabbit sighed and rolled his eyes. He balled his fists for a moment before unclenching them.
Jax: âŚDid she have fun?
Ragatha: Huh?
Jax: At the theme park. With Pomni. Did you have fun?
Ragatha: âŚYeah. I did. Itâs the same old rides, but⌠itâs a whole different experience having someone to share it with. To see react to stuff, yâknow?
Jax: Did you two make out~?
Ragatha: Ugh, donât be a creep.
Jax made some obnoxious kissing sound effects.
Ragatha: You know, I could ask you the same thing! Did you make out with her?
Jax: *immediately* Yeah.
Ragatha: Wh- *blushes* Oh. Uh. Hm. Wait, you can kiss people? Do you even have lips?
Jax: Huh? What are you talkinâ about?
Ragatha: No, Iâm just thinking about the logistics of the whole situation, does she like⌠kiss you on the teeth?
Jax: I got lips, genius. *closes his mouth around his teeth*
Ragatha: Yeah but can you pucker them? Or do you just sort of⌠bump your lips against hers?
Jax: Youâre reaaaally into my kissing techniques there, Dollface. There something youâre not telling me?
Ragatha: Dream on.
Jax: More like âhave nightmares.â
Ragatha: Ha! Even if I were to kiss you, which I wonât, I think youâd find it perfectly acceptable at the very worst.
Jax: At the very best. At the very best I find it acceptable. At the very worst, I might puke in your mouth.
Ragatha: Jax! Blech⌠*sticks out her tongue* You always take it too farâŚ
Jax: You all just donât take it far enough...
Ragatha: Oh whatever. It makes me happy youâre enjoying your time with Pomni.
Jax: Why wouldnât I? Sheâs⌠sheâs alright. *he blushes faintly*
Ragatha: Yeah. She is alright. Iâm really proud of you.
Thereâs a prolonged silence.
Jax: What?
Ragatha: I said that Iâm proud of you.
Jax: Youâre⌠âproud of me?â
Ragatha: Yeah. Youâve come a l-
Jax: What do you mean youâre proud of me, proud of me for what?
Ragatha: For-For finding someone that helps you get through the days, you know? It's hard to keep going.
Jax: That wasnât what you were going to say. You said âIâve come a long way.â
Ragatha: Oh. Well⌠I dunno. I can tell youâre softening up a little.
Jax: Huh?
Ragatha: I mean, Pomni is good for you. Youâre not nearly as⌠well, as much of a jerk as you were before. Sometimes you need someone in your life that grounds you.
Jax: So whatâs she doing for you?
Ragatha: What do you mean?
Jax: Well she makes me less of a jerk. What does she do to help your personality, huh? Or do you not need to change anything?
Ragatha: Hey now, I wasnât saying anything like that.
Jax: But you get to be âproudâ because the new girl makes me better? Like you got nothing to fix or already have romance figured out.
Ragatha: Jax, itâs a compliment!
Jax: Alright, look. *he stands up* Iâll let you kiss Pomni, but you donât get to talk to me like Iâm your baby brother.
Ragatha: Sorry, you'll let me kiss Pomni? And I mean, I am eight years older than youâŚ
Jax: Oh so you do think Iâm a kid, nice.
Ragatha: Jax, you know I didnât mean it like that-
Jax: Amazing. Itâs not enough you get to treat me like a child, you get to come into my relatio- my, my- you get to come into my life and take my girlf- *the words catch in his throat and he stops*
Ragatha: What..? *she stands up* Jax, where is this coming from? You told me you were okay with sharing!
Jax: Yeah, well⌠maybe Iâm not so much.
Ragatha: You... Pomni said-
Jax: I know what I told Pomni! I told herâŚ
There's another lengthy pause
Jax: I told her what she wanted to hear!
Ragatha: YouâŚ
Jax: She was freaking out over liking you, so I just bit the bullet and told her it was fine so she wouldn't flip out. I thought I could deal with it⌠But you know what? I canât! It hurts just a liiittle bit to have someone you⌠the⌠the first person who you ever really cared about in this dump just up and decide that youâre not good enough for them and go find someone else! Especially if your replacement is some condescending knock-off!
Jax poked her hard in the left shoulder, and Ragatha slapped his hand away instinctively.
Ragatha: Jax, stop it!
Jax: No, no, you know what? Keep her! Iâm just a dumb kid, right?! Itâs pretty d@#& clear Iâm not cutting it anymore! I hope you two have fun! Iâm better off alone!
Layla piped up with a peppy late nineties techno beat upon hearing Jaxâs words. The corner of the rabbitâs mouth twitched with rage.
Jax: Oh you think youâre funny..?
Ragatha: Jax, she doesnât know any better-
Before Ragatha knew it, Jax had his hands around the beetle, who gave a squeal of feedback at being grabbed so tightly.
Jax: You little-!
The rabbit reared back
Ragatha: NO JAX DONâT!
Jax threw Layla hard into the woods, the tiny creature rocketing into the treeline. Ragatha gasped and ran after Layla, falling to her knees and palming around in the tall grass for her. She eventually felt a small round body and pulled it free from the leaves of grass.
Ragatha: Layla, are you okay? You didnât hit a tree did you?!
Laylaâs eyes twirled in circles before she blinked the confusion away and shook her head âno.â
Ragatha: *gives a long sigh of relief* Jax! Why would you-
Upon turning around, the rabbit was nowhere to be found.
Ragatha: Jax?
ââ
Jax made it to the edge of the forest. He panted and grabbed the sides of his head. His chest hurt. Shame and fury and guilt grappled in his stomach like a knot of snakes.
Jax: Itâs late. I should⌠I should sleep.
He said this aloud to himself, a pitiful attempt to calm his emotions like twisting the cap back on a bottle of soda that was about to erupt with fizz. He just wanted to go back to his room. So he started walking.
His throat hurt. He kept walking. His vision became blurry. He kept walking. His cheeks were getting wet. He kept walking. His breathing hitched. He stopped walking. He fell into a squat. He got back up. He walked to the lake shore and sat.
He cried. For the first time in years, he cried.
And he cried.
And he cried.

Okay. Executive decision. Posting the first chapter of my two-parter here, because I'm loaded with caffeine and I want you guys to see what I've been up to all week. Uh it's pure Funnybunny, so sorry if you wanted some Ragatha romance stuff... Uhhhhhh also like... it's a bit long? And character driven rather than romance driven. Hope you like it anyway! Oh and I'm linking the AO3 if you'd prefer that. T/W: Mild cartoon violence, self hatred, a sex joke

Like Rhinestones, Falling From the Sky (Part 1)
he grounds of the Digital Circus had two states. Daytime and sunny, nighttime and clear. It was a constant that no one bothered to disturb. Caine could grant a lot of requests around the circus, but rarely in any way the asker might want. Ask for a few wildflowers to add some color on the grounds? Congratulations, now there was an entire field of flowers, flowers that smelled like cheap, nose-tickling perfume and grew so thick and snared that it was impossible to walk around outside. Ask for a cool, dim day because you wanted a nap? Hey presto, now the entire circus was engulfed in an impenetrable fog that made Silent Hill look like the Aouzou Strip. The performers all followed the same motto when it came to the weather:
If itâs already broken, donât break it any more.Â
Due to this motto being in place, it was a complete mystery as to why all the performers were shaken awake early one morning by a skull-rattling crash of thunder.Â
Kinger was the first out of his room, bursting through his door with a melodramatic wail.
âTheyâve finally arrived! The harvest has commenced! They want ALL of our garmonbozia!!!â
Zooble was out of their room next, screwing their head back on their torso and limping over to the eldest performer.
âRelax! Chill the f#%@ out, old timer, itâs just thunder.â they snapped, still not quite awake.Â
As if on cue, another rapturous tremor of thunder tore through the air, Ragatha emerging from her room and staring worriedly at the ceiling before joining the group.
âAre you guys okay? Thatâs some crazy weather weâre-â
Ragatha let out an âeep!â as Kinger seized her by the front of the dress.
âRagatha! Weâre under attack! Whatâs Morse code for SOS?!â
Ragatha gently took hold of Kingerâs wrists and guided them off of her dress. She smiled and her voice took on a warm, fuzzy tone.Â
âHey⌠no one is attacking us, Kinger. Itâs probably been ages since youâve heard a thunderstorm, hasnât it? Thereâs nothing to be afraid of.â she cooed.
âUnless thatâs what they want you to think.â came a slippery voice from behind her. Jax leaned against the wall, one foot flat against it. He sported a tired but nonetheless smug grin.Â
âJax, quit it. Canât you see heâs scared?â Ragatha chided, but Jax continued as if she hadnât spoken, walking right up to Kinger.Â
âWho knows, maybe theyâre after your bug collection, Kinger, or- OW!â
Zooble silenced Jax with a single, well aimed punch to the cheek.Â
âCan you shut up? Itâs too early for your schoolyard bull#%&$.â Zooble drawled.Â
Jax massaged his cheek and gave a petulant âJeezâŚâ under his breath. Pomni was out of her room next, stirred from sleep like the rest of them. Her black eyelids hung over her eyes like an eclipse, and she dragged her body over to the others as if it had weights tied to it.Â
âHey, morning, Sunshine!â Jax smirked, a hand still on the cheek Zooble punched.
âGo #%&$ yourselfâŚâ Pomni mumbled, staring off into the void.Â
âYEESH, everyone is crabby this morning. I canât even say hello withou-â
KRK-BOOOOOOOMMMM!
A peal of thunder like a boulder tumbling into a dump truck shook the air again, everyone instinctively covering their ears (or where their ears should have been.)
âOkay, we should see whatâs going on! Maybe itâs part of a new adventure..?â Ragatha proposed as soon as the rumbling subsided.Â
âWait! Whereâs Gangle?!â Kinger cried.
There was a soft click as the door to Gangleâs room was opened just a crack, the ribbon girl peering just one eye out and trembling like a leaf.Â
âWhatâs happeningâŚ?â she mewled.Â
Zooble pressed their foot on top of Jaxâs to keep him from speaking up.Â
âItâs just a storm, Gangle⌠Weâre gonna go see whatâs going on. You wanna come with?â Ragatha smiled and approached Gangleâs door, offering a hand. Gangle gulped and took Ragathaâs hand with one of her ribbons.
âOkayâŚâ she whimpered.Â
Jax made a âgag meâ motion but remained quiet.Â
The six performers headed out into the main room, nearly tumbling onto the chessboard floor from another apocalyptic boom of thunder.
âDoes this sort of thing ever happen out of nowhere..?!â Pomni shouted, her crabbiness from lack of sleep bubbling over.
âDidnât you hear Caine when you first got here? âTHE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS IS A PLACE WHERE ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!â Chaos is sorta par for the course.â Jax replied. His impression of Caine was actually pretty good, and might have made Pomni smirk a bit if she wasnât so irritable.Â
âJax is right,â Ragatha chimed in from further ahead. âAround here you have to expect the unexpected, and prepare for what isnât there.âÂ
âYeah, but the way I said it wasnât stupid.â Jax replied.Â
The six of them reached the tentâs exit. It was zipped closed, but quavered feverishly. A small pool of rainwater oozed through the bottom of the flap, occasionally lit bright pearly blue by unseen flashes of lightning from outside.Â
âOkay, so itâs definitely storming. Now we know.â Jax drawled, crossing his arms.Â
âSee Kinger? No one is coming, itâs just bad we-â
Another tremendous crash of thunder interrupted Ragatha, and a half-second later, all of the lights in the tent sputtered and died. The only light left was the heavily censored sunlight from outside filtering under the tent flap.Â
âI f#%&$ng hate it hereâŚâ Zooble sighed.Â
âOkay, no one wander off. Letâs all stick together and find our way back to our roomsâŚâ Ragatha began.
Gangle jolted with a yelp. âSomeone grabbed me!â
âJax!â Zooble growled.
âIt wasnât me! Iâm all the way back here, Hodge-Podge!â Jax retorted from the darkness.Â
âIt was me, Gangle! I grabbed your handâŚâ Ragatha interjected. âIâm sorry, I thought you would need a hand to hold.â
âTha-Thatâs not my hand-â
The performers squinted as a corona of light bloomed in the middle of the room. From the center of the ring, Bubble appeared, glowing with an iridescent, rainbow colored light.
âAnd God said, let there be LIGHT!â he announced, his squeaky voice echoing throughout the tent.
âDONâT BE RIDICULOUS BUBBLE! IF ANYONEâS GOD AROUND HERE, ITâS YOURS TRULY!â Caine floated down from on high, emitting his own faint light, just enough so he could be seen clearly against the backdrop of darkness.Â
âThere is no God hereâŚâ Zooble muttered.
âAmen.â added Pomni.
âSO MY LITTLE SUPERSTARS! IT SEEMS YOUâVE ALL BEEN MADE AWARE OF OUR INCLEMENT WEATHER!â Caine unzipped the tent entrance. The sky was charcoal black and arcing with threads of lightning. Rain slashed across the grounds in great sweeps and the howling wind eagerly pushed its way into the tent, bringing in a spray of raindrops that doused the six performers, who covered their faces and demanded Caine close the tent again, which he thankfully did after just a few seconds.
âBUT NOT TO WORRY! WHILE I FIX THIS BROUHAHA, YOU ALL-â
He paused for another crash of thunder.Â
â-YOU ALL WILL BE ENJOYING AN ADVENTURE!âÂ
âLa dee da.â Jax drawled.
âSO, PLEASE ENJOY YOUR TIME IIIIN-â
Caine snapped his fingers. There was a moment or two of silence before Caine looked down at his fingers and snapped once again. Then again.Â
âHuh. That was supposed to open a portal.â Caine said sheepishly.Â
âDid you try turning it off and on again?â Bubble asked, squinting one eye.
âHavinâ issues there, Caine? Itâs alright, it happens to guys your age.â Jax said with a grin. Pomni felt the corners of her mouth raise, despite herself.Â
âI DONâT APPRECIATE YOUR INNUENDO, JAX!â Caine declared, brandishing his cane with a trembling hand. He tried a few more futile finger snaps.Â
âSo, weâre stuck here..?â Gangle asked, wringing her ribbons together. âIn the dark..?â
There was an ill-timed crash of thunder that made her jump and squeak a little too loudly. She covered up her mask as bright pink blush marks formed under her eyes.
âYeah, Iâm with Ribbons, Caine,â Jax said, jabbing a thumb at Gangle. âEverybody knows monsters like the dark since itâs easier to hide.â
âOkay, cut the Twilight Zone bull$#!%.â Zooble scoffed.
âAs someone whoâs actually seen The Twilight Zone,â Ragatha piped up. âThe quote is âThereâs nothing in the dark that wasnât there when the lights were on.â So weâre fine, Gangle. Itâs just us.âÂ
âNerd.â Jax replied.
In the midst of this whole exchange, Caine had snapped his fingers a good two dozen times before clapping his hands to his face/teeth and bellowing in frustration.Â
âExcusemeforjustonesecond!â he spat before disappearing in a flash of light and some confetti. Bubble looked around, barely managing a âBye-!â before popping, dousing the light and plunging the room back into darkness.
There was a moment or two of silence before another peal of thunder shook the tent. Gangle let out a quiet, uneasy groan as everyone tried to get their bearings in an almost total absence of light.Â
âIâm going back to bed.â Zooble announced flatly. The only indication that they were leaving was the sound of careful footsteps receding into the black.
âWait, can you find your way there?â Pomni asked.Â
âIâll figure it out.â Zooble replied, nothing but a voice from the darkness. Pomni listened to their receding footsteps before she began to pace back and forth.Â
âI canât believe it, he just left us here. Not even a flashlight! Isnât this place supposed to be magic?! How does the power even go out?!â
âIt is the first time Iâve ever seen this happen since Iâve been hereâŚâ Ragatha admitted. âWhat about you, Kinger? You ever seen anything like this?â
âRight now I donât see much of anythingâŚâ Kinger replied matter-of-factly.Â
Another roar of thunder, Gangle making an unhappy noise and clinging to Ragatha. Since it was dark, Jax couldnât see, and thus couldnât tease her for it. Ragatha patted her on the mask.Â
âI donât want to go off by myself⌠What if something happens?â she whimpered.
âCome on, Crybaby, youâre not seriously worried about monsters, are ya?â Jax drawled.Â
âYouâre the one that put the thought into her head, Jax.â Pomni replied.Â
âI was joking .â Jax snarked, as if it was the most obvious fact since âwater happened to be a little damp.â
âJokes are supposed to be funny.â
âYeah?â Jaxâs tone darkened. âWell unfortunately, Clownface , the funny guy-â
They were interrupted by a dry, metallic scratch and a spark of orange light. Kinger held a silver lighter in his hand, which supported a tiny yellow-orange flame.Â
ââŚThatâs my lighter.â Jax said after a moment. âWhere did you get my lighter?!â
âWait, Jax, why do you have a lighter at all?â Ragatha interjected.Â
âNone of your business. You need to stay outta my stuff, Hoo-Hah.â Jax took a few steps towards Kinger.Â
âI only found it.â Kinger said, taking an equal number of steps back.
âBull. I donât leave my stuff layinâ around. Hand it over.â Jax stuck a gloved hand out.Â
Kinger looked down at the lighter, then to Jax, who put his hand forward more insistently. Kinger snapped the lighter closed, smothering the fire and disappearing into darkness.Â
âHey! Whereâd you go?!âÂ
âKinger, wait! We need the light! Donât go!â Gangle begged.Â
There was a grunt and a crash somewhere in the dark, the thunder replying in kind. Another dry, metallic scratch and Kinger reappeared, illuminated orange and standing over by Gangle and Ragatha.Â
âWhat was that?!â he cried, stiffly holding the flame out in front of him.Â
âIt was me, you moron!â Jaxâs irritated voice called out from somewhere in the void. âI couldn't see my hand in front of my face! Now hand over my lighter before I-â
Kinger yelped and snapped the lighter closed again.
âBoth of you, stop it!â Pomni shouted. âJax, I donât give a $#!% if itâs yours or not, itâs all weâve got for light right now, so quit acting like a p&!âŹ# for two god&@#% seconds! Kinger!âÂ
They heard the jester take a breath and soften her voice.Â
âKinger. We need the lighter to see. Can you please turn it back on so we can at least get back to our rooms?â
There was a pause, another rumble of thunder, and at last, a metallic flick as the lighter sparked again. Kingerâs hands shook.Â
âThank youâŚâ Pomni said with a weary smile. âLead the way, if you donât mind.â
The five performers made their way towards backstage, slowly and methodically in the cavernous tent. They passed an overturned pile of brightly colored shapes, Jax delivering a well aimed punt to a mint-colored cylinder, which sailed off into the darkness and landed out of sight with a drumroll of thuds.Â
âWas that the thing you tripped over?â Ragatha asked, her smile audible in her voice.Â
âFelt like kickinâ something.â Jax replied tartly.Â
After a few minutes of careful maneuvering amidst peals of thunder, the five of them made it to the corridor backstage.
âWell⌠what do we do now..?â Pomni asked.
âDo we have to do anything?â Jax replied.
âWell⌠not really. But I think it might be fun to have a slumber party!â Ragatha said brightly.Â
âNo offense, Ragatha, but I donât know if any of us are really in a party moodâŚâ Pomni said, rubbing her left arm with her right hand.Â
âNo, no, it doesnât have to be an actual party. We can all just hang around in my room! Iâve got some candles we can light so we can see, and Iâll teach you guys how to make a blanket fort-âÂ
âYou have candles?â Pomni interrupted. âOh, thatâs really good news⌠Now we donât have to sit around in the dark. How many do you have, Ragatha?â
âOh gosh, umâŚâ Ragatha rubbed her chin with her hand. â30? No, 40!âÂ
There was a period of silence. Kinger held the lighter out so she was illuminated.Â
âWhat?â Ragatha asked, putting her hands on her hips defensively. âI need to de-stress every once in a while too, yâknow!âÂ
âIf the tent ever burns down, we know who to blame.â Jax quipped.Â
âOh stop it!â Ragatha flapped her hand dismissively.
âCan⌠we have a few? Just to have a little bit of light around hereâŚâ Pomni asked, touching the tips of her fingers together.Â
âYeah! Absolutely, come on!â Ragatha led her fellow performers to her room, unlocking the door with a bit of flourish and motioning them inside. âAfter you!âÂ
The four of them entered her room, Kinger leading the way with the lighter. Ragathaâs bedroom was⌠on brand. In the dim light, they could make out some plastic furniture that would have been right at home in a dollhouse. A pink, squat tea table surrounded by some plush and frilly cushions. The table came complete with an old fashioned white China teapot and cups, a glazed pink and yellow flower painted on the side of the pot, and the rims of both the cups and pot were lined with gold leaf (or at least a serviceable imitation of it). In the opposite corner, a CRT television sat within a yellow floral patterned hutch, and a game console was hooked up to it. Her bed sat neatly made on the far end of the room, a canopy like Pomniâs, although striped with magenta and cotton-candy pink rather than red and blue. At the food of the bed sat at least a dozen stuffed animals, a teddy bear, a camel, a tiger, and more, all in a neat pile. While they should have looked cute and inviting in the light, in the near dark, they looked uncanny. Their shoebutton eyes caught the flameâs reflection in such a way that made them look insectoid, and their vacant, pleasant expressions staring off into nothing gave off the impression of someone who had lost their mind gazing into the abyss.Â
Ragatha hurried over to the hutch, opening a drawer and taking out a brand new white candle.Â
âHereâs my stash,â she chuckled, rummaging around in the drawer a bit more. âI have a couple that are scented too. Do you guys like⌠apple cinnamon or toasted marshmallow more? Iâm more of a sandalwood gal myselfâŚâ
Jax made a noise of disgust. Kinger stared intently at a stuffed elephant, as if waiting for it to blink.Â
âNanny camâŚ?â he whispered to himself.Â
There was a crash of thunder and everyone jolted. Gangle covered the top of her mask with her ribbons and Kinger fumbled with the lighter, managing to keep hold of it.Â
âGood thing you have that, Jax. I just ran out of matchesâŚâ Ragatha sighed, setting up a neat cluster of candlesÂ
âOkay, um, I think we should use a couple to light the hallway, if itâs okay with youâŚat least until Caine fixes things.â Pomni said. âUm, and if I could borrow one or two for my room-â
âMe too please.â Gangle chimed in, raising a ribbon.Â
âI need to get my camping stoveâŚâ Kinger muttered, still engaged in a stare-off with Ragathaâs stuffed elephant.Â
âK-Kinger, you have a camping stove?â Pomni asked.Â
âThe h@!! do you need one of those for?â Jax also asked, crouching beside Kinger to see what was so interesting about that and stuffed animal.Â
ââŚIn case the power goes out.â Kinger replied after a moment.
âThis is the first time the power has ever gone outâŚâ Ragatha admitted, but she smiled anyway. âIâm glad youâve been thinking ahead though.â
Ragatha then gasped. âOh! We can make tea! I have the best recipe I need to show you guys! Itâs perfect for a day like today!â
âIâd like some tea. Something warm to drink would really hit the spot.â Pomni said with a faint smile. Gangle also nodded.Â
âHey, I got a suggestion too.â Jax called, raising a finger.Â
In one swoosh, Jax snatched the lighter out of Kingerâs hands, closing it with a clink and extinguishing their one source of light.Â
âJax, hey! I canât see!â complained Ragatha.
âMy lighter, my rules. Iâm heading back to my room.â he said.
âWhatâŚ? Jax, youâre kidding. We need the lighter for just a little longer, then itâs all yours.â Ragatha insisted.Â
âItâs already all mine. You stole it. So now Iâm keeping it.â Jax replied from somewhere in the dark.Â
âJax, come on!â Pomni shouted. âEveryone could have light again if you would just-â
âEveryone will have light again when Caine gets the electricity working. Just be patient.âÂ
âBut⌠But JaxâŚâ Gangle began, her voice quavering. âIâm⌠Iâm scared of the dark, please just let us light a few candlesâŚâ
âNope. Your eyes should adjust soon enough.â
The sound of Jaxâs retreating footsteps and the open and shut of the door were muffled by another churning rumble of thunder. Ragatha sighed from her place in the dark.Â
âWell, donât worry everyone. We can have a slumber party even in the dark. Itâll take a bit more time to set up and we canât do as much, but-â
Everyone jumped at a sudden angry yell and thunk. Pomni punched the wall, then felt her way towards the door, throwing it open and stomping out into the hallway.Â
âPomniâs very angry.â Kinger said in a hushed voice. Ragatha set her candles down on the hutch, a few of them rolling off and clattering to the floor as she carefully made her way to her door in almost complete darkness.
âPomni? Pomni, where are you going?â she called out into the hall.Â
It wasnât too difficult for Pomni to find Jaxâs door feeling around in the dark, it was right across from her room, after all. Her right hand aching from punching the wall, she banged on his door with her left.Â
âJAX! GET OUT HERE!â she bellowed.Â
âPomni, hey, itâs okay-!â Ragatha insisted, alarmed at the newest memberâs sudden explosion of rage.Â
âNO! No, itâs not okay! Iâm sick to death of him acting like this! It ends right the #%@& now, you hear me?!â
Pomni shouted all this as she feverishly twisted the handle of Jaxâs locked door. After several mighty turns, she scoffed and took a few steps back.Â
âYou wanna hide like a coward? Fine!âÂ
âWhatâs going on?!â Zoobleâs voice shouted. They had poked their head into the hallway after hearing the racket outside.Â
Pomni took another couple steps back until she was almost touching the opposite wall, then ran forward, barging Jaxâs door with her shoulder. Thunder roared.Â
âPomni!â Ragatha cried, her voice cracking. âPomni, what are you doing?! Are you okay?!â
Pomni took the same number of steps backwards and ran forward, smashing into the door again, eliciting a splintery crunch from the jamb. She backed up once again, both her right shoulder and right knuckle ached now, but she barely felt it. Truth be told she couldnât pinpoint just one reason why Jaxâs behavior had enraged her so badly. She was angry from lack of sleep, she was angry that Jax was being such a selfish bully for no reason, she was angry that he had the capacity for kindness and yet chose to act like this-Â
Her rage burned blue-hot as she charged at the door, bracing her shoulder for impact. The impact never came. She sailed right past the point where she should have met hard wood, stumbling forward into a boneless somersault. She tumbled over herself and ended up in a sitting position.Â
Jaxâs room had incredibly faint daylight filtering in from his window. The sky was still the color of a dusty tire, mostly black with flecks of lights. Flashbulbs of lightning popped from within swollen thunderheads.Â
Pomni heard the door shut behind her. In the faint light, she saw Jax turn the lock on his door before turning to look at her, arms crossed.
âYou almost broke my door, newbie.â he said with almost parental condescension.Â
Pomni didnât say anything in return, only glaring. Anger prickled down her back. Thunder boomed.Â
âYou know what? Take it.â Jax took the lighter out of his pocket. It shined in the stormlight. âIf youâre gonna throw such a hissy fit about something so tiny, you might as well have it so you donât embarrass yourself more than you already have. Go on. I donât want it anymore.âÂ
Jax held his hand out, the lighter on his palm. Pomni reared back and slapped his hand away, the lighter bouncing off the wall with a weighty thud, doing a few midair loops and finally skittering to a stop a few feet behind her.
âWhat the h@&&?! I gave you what-â
âSHUT UP!!!â
Pomni barked this order with such ferocity that Jax immediately fell silent. It seemed to have shocked the jester herself, as she took a moment to find her voice afterwards.Â
ââŚWhy? Why did you do that?â was all she managed to get out.
âI donât like people touching my stuff.â came Jaxâs reply. Despite his shock at being yelled at, he managed to keep his tone cool and even. There was a millisecond flash of lightning. Thunder rumbled.
âNot that. Just⌠why do you always..? I know youâre capable of being kind. Iâve seen it firsthand. They donât do anything to you, Jax! So why do you just keep picking at everyone?â
âBecause they let me.âÂ
Pomni felt her anger froth to the surface again.Â
âOh. OH. That makes perfect sense! So youâre cruel because you can be! Nice to know youâre just a sadist then! Ha! That saves me a lot of time, then! Weâre through. Get outta my way.â
Pomni snatched the lighter off the ground and pushed past Jax.
ââŚIâm not a sadist.â he said without turning around.Â
âYou just said youâre cruel to people for fun. Thatâs the definition of a sadist!â Pomni unlocked the door to his room and placed her hand on the knob.Â
âItâs not for fun.â
Her hand slid off the knob. There was a rolling growl of thunder.Â
âSo what is it then?!â Pomni turned back to Jax, walking up to him and poking him in the chest. âYou keep changing your story! First it was âI want them to hate me instead of their situation,â now itâs âI do it because I can.â So what is it? Tell. Me. The. TRUTH.â
âYou want the truth, huh?â Jax said. Half of his face was silhouetted in shadow, his tone steeped in frosty ire.Â
âYES. Or you can forget about us. About all of this. Itâll be like we never met.â Pomni asserted.Â
âFINE.â Jax hissed. He turned to the window, looking out on the maelstrom of clouds and wind and rain. Another blinding flash of lightning and grumble of thunder.
 âI⌠I hate myself.âÂ
For a good 10 seconds, the only sounds were that of the rain on the digital grass and the wind buffeting Jaxâs window.Â
âS-S-Say again?â Pomni finally asked.
âI hate myself.â Jax repeated, not taking his gaze off the storm. His affect was neutral, but his eyes were distant.
âYou⌠hate yourself?â Pomni echoed.Â
âYeah.âÂ
The jester chewed on one of her gloves. A flicker of lightning and a softer, yet prolonged burble of thunder rolled across the grounds. She removed her glove from her teeth.
âHow do I know thatâs not a lie too?â she asked, looking intently at the floor.Â
âItâs not.â Jax immediately replied. âI guess, just, believe me.â
Pomni continued chewing on one of her gloves. She jumped a little at an especially loud crack of thunder, but otherwise remained rooted to the spot. An excruciating minute passed.
ââŚOkay. You hate yourself.â Pomni finally conceded, throwing her arms out and letting her hands slap against her hips. âSo?â
This query got Jax to turn towards Pomni. The icy glare on his face could have shriveled flowers. âThe ÂŁ@âŹ# do you mean, âso?ââÂ
âExactly what it sounds like.â Pomni shot back.
âSo? You hate yourself so you treat everyone but me sometimes like trash?! What kind of excuse is that?â
The corner of Jaxâs mouth twitched. She had prodded a nerve with that one. He turned back to the window, looking out on the storm-swept grounds.Â
âGet outta my room.â he ordered.
âNo.â Pomni said with a humorless laugh. âYou seriously think Iâm gonna go âOh you poor baby, I didnât know; all is forgiven?â just because you said you hate yourself? It doesnât work like that! I hate myself too and I donât act a FIFTH as awful as you do!â
âWhat do you mean, you hate yourself..?â Jax demanded quietly.Â
Pomni took a deep breath. Well, he had been honest with her. She waited for the latest boom of thunder to quiet down before continuing.Â
âI donât remember everything about outside⌠but I remember that before I came here I⌠I was alone. I never went out drinking or dancing; I had no one to go with. Hadnât kept in touch with my college friends and didnât associate with anyone at work. How could I? I never had anything to talk to my coworkers about, I never reacted right to anyoneâs jokes, I only went to team building exercises if they were mandatory⌠But it wasnât like they didnât try! I got invited to dinner or to birthday parties, and I always said no, I was busy. You wanna know what I was doing?â
âPomni-â Jax beganÂ
âNo! Ask me what I was doing!âÂ
Jax didnât reply. Pomni finally shrugged after a moment and answered her own question with a phony smile.
âNothing. ÂŁ@âŹ# all. I was doing sudoku, or watching a movie I had already seen, or scrolling on my phone in bed. And I hated myself for it! I would cry into my pillow, I was so lonely! I would tell myself how stupid, stupid, STUPID I was, and how I was an idiot who didnât deserve friends! I had every opportunity to get out of the hole I dug for myself, and I didnât, because I was scared they would hate me even more than I thought they already did.â
Pomni felt her anger rise once again.
âUh huh. But guess what? I never picked on anyone. I never made anyone else feel worse! I hurt so badly some days I wanted to DIE and I still tried my best to smile and treat everyone around me like a PERSON! You hate yourself? SO F#%&ING WHAT?! That doesnât give you the right to make everything around you worse!âÂ
Pomni panted, doubling over to catch her breath. She braced herself for some sort of projectile Jax might throw at her. Instead, he only stared at her before turning back to the window. Thunder rumbled.Â
âIâm⌠sorry you hate yourself. Really. Itâs the worst feeling. But itâd be so much better if you just⌠didnât hurt people. Let them in and helped you heal. Itâs what I needed, and now that I have friendsâŚâ
Pomni stopped herself. She stared down at the floor again. She hated eye contact already, eye contact after an argument was like staring at the sun.
âSo⌠why do you hate yourself?â Pomni asked after some more silence.Â
âWhat does it matter?â Jax replied.Â
Pomni scoffed. âDonât give me that. Has it occurred to you that I actually care about you? If I didnât, why would I even be asking? Why would I have kissed you after you made me salmon a few nights ago? I like you, Jax. But you can be a real p&!@% sometimes, and that isnât okay, even if your pain is real. Why do you hate yourself?â
âI donât want to talk about it.â Jax said firmly.Â
Pomni let out a protracted sigh, chewing on the finger of one of her gloves and looking down at the floor one last time before looking back up at Jax. He was looking out at the storm.
âOkay. Thanks for at least giving me a real answer. Iâll bring your lighter back in a bit.â
Pomni headed for the door once again. She felt a hand touch her shoulder and she practically jumped out of her skin with a sharp gasp. She whirled around and took a few steps back, Jax pulling his hand back in shock.Â
âW-What?! Donât⌠donât touch me!â she snapped reflexively.Â
ââŚIâmâŚâ Jax began.Â
Pomni crossed her arms and waited, looking everywhere but in Jaxâs face.Â
ââŚIâmâŚâ he tried again. âIâm not being⌠Iâm not just being difficult. I donât remember.â
Pomni quirked an eyebrow. âDonât remember what?âÂ
âWhy. I donât remember why I hate myself. Itâs just gone. Poof, right along with my name.â
Pomni licked her lips. She was thirsty from all the shouting.Â
âYouâre⌠being serious right now? You arenât just trying to weasel your way-â
âNo. No, Iâm- Iâm totally serious.âÂ
Pomni managed to look into his eyes for a moment. They were big, but his pupils were tiny despite the extremely low light. Just the way heâd looked after she had seen him have a nightmare. Scared.Â
ââŚThatâs horrible.â Pomni said, looking away after she began to feel itchy. âI⌠canât imagine how horrible it must be to hurt and not know why⌠like a pain in a phantom limb.âÂ
Jax didnât say anything, looking back out at the window. Lightning flashed, a bright pink-white splinter across the clouds, and there was a tremulous rumble of thunder that followed.Â
âBut⌠you shouldnât take it out on people. Even if it makes the pain stop. There are other things you can doâŚâ Pomni added. âAnd⌠And Iâm willing to listen to you whenever youâre hurting. Even if Iâm hurting too.âÂ
Jax looked back at the jester, who immediately stared down at the floor.Â
âWhy? You barely know me. You said it was so hard to make friends back in the real world. What makes me so special?â
Pomni swallowed. She really needed something to drink.Â
âI know. That itâs bizarre for me to like you when Iâve always had such a hard time. But⌠I want to help you anyway. Isnât that weird?â
She managed a smile and to look him in the eyes again. Jax gave a short âhehâŚâ and looked away this time.Â
âThanks, Pompom.â he said.
âAnytime, Bunny-Boy.âÂ
The two of them shared an awkward chuckle. Pomni cleared her throat.
âUm⌠do you want to come with me? Iâm gonna go have tea with Ragatha and the othersâŚâ
âI think Iâm okayâŚâ Jax replied.Â
âJax, come on. Itâll be fun⌠Please?âÂ
Pomni offered a hand.Â
âAlright, alright. But only âcause you said please.â
Jax took the jesterâs hand, Pomni sparking the lighter and leading the way back to Ragathaâs bedroom.

Well, I said Iâd deliver on the Funnybunny, so I have. This is probably the most âwrittenâ one so far. Itâs also got an actual kiss in it, which I was looking forward to.
I Wonder Whatâs For Dinner?
*Pomni shuffles her way into the backstage hall, her eyes marred with dark circles. Jax just so happens to be there as well, grinning and beginning to follow after her*
Jax: Rough day, Pompom?
Pomni: No thanks to you. Whereâve you been..?
Jax: Side adventure. You gotta learn how to weasel your way outta the big adventures, Pompom.
Pomni: It would have been easier if we had more helpâŚ
Jax: Looook, I get the whole team effort thing, I do. But I gotta look out for me first, ya know? If I go cra~azy- *eyes twirl for emphasis* -whoâll keep your life interesting?
Pomni: Jax- âŚDonât, okay? My eyes hurt Iâm so tired. I donât need to hear your slimy cÂŁ@? right now, alright? âŚGod, even cÂŁ@? is censored! God-ÂŁ@#%#& &@%%!+!!!
Jax: Ooooo-hoo-hoo~ someone oughta wash your mouth out, Pompom.
*Pomni is on the verge of exploding. Perhaps the circus has added in tea kettle sound effects or her face has slowly turned red. But instead of shouting, she turns to Jax with poison politeness*
Pomni: Jax. With all due respect? Go away. Take your selfish jibber-jabber somewhere else.
*Jax oddly seems to smile a bit wider at the insult.*
Pomni: And for the thirty gazillionth time, STOP calling me Pompom!
*Pomni throws open her door, but stops a few steps in. She sniffs the air, despite her lack of a nose. Thereâs a familiar sweet and savory aroma in her room. It takes a moment for her tired eyes to spot a small table and chair set up in the middle of the room for her. On it sits a bowl of white rice topped by a pinkish-orange fillet, brushed with a caramel-brown sauce*
Pomni: Is⌠this
*Jax leans against the doorframe on one hand*
Jax: Honey-garlic glazed salmon. I had to think a little outside the box to get some private info about you, but hey, I figured if Caine knew our birthdays and whatnot, I could weasel it out of him.
*Pomni sits at the small table, Jax shutting the door behind him. Thereâs a fork set out on a napkin for her. Even though she feels her mouth watering, she has to hesitate. Sheâs dealing with Jax*
Pomni: You put something in this, didnât you? Ghost pepper sauce or farting powder orâŚ?
Jax: *shrugs* I mightâve. I am pretty selfish after all.
*Pomni stares at the food a moment longer before caving, picking up the fork and cutting herself a piece of the salmon. She places it in her mouth and chews thoughtfully⌠her eyelids flutter a bit and she swallows*
Pomni: Oh my god⌠itâs deliciousâŚ
*Pomni tucks into the food, Jax watching her now and then from the door. Thereâs a few minutes of clinking dishes before Pomni speaks up again*
Pomni: âŚI uh⌠I think I used to eat this with chopsticksâŚ
Jax: Bubbleâs only used forks and spoons since Iâve been here. Does he look like a weeb to you, Pompom?
*Pomni snorts a bit too loud and covers her mouth, trying to disguise it as a cough. Jax gives a self-satisfied grin at being able to make the ball of anxiety laugh.*
*Eventually, Pomni is all finished. Even if she wasnât actually filling her belly, the taste of her favorite food has helped her forget⌠well, everything. At least for a little while.*
Jax: Sheesh, you eat like a pig, newbie. *he comes over to the table*
Pomni: âŚThank you for this, Jax. It⌠It wasâŚ
Jax: Thoughtful? Sweet? Caring? I dunno, you said I was selfish. Maybe I just wanted to do something for you so you could do something for me later. *he bends down to pick up the empty bowl* If I do come around askinâ you for a favor though, y-
*In a flash, Pomni takes advantage of Jax being down at her level and plants a quick, feather-light kiss on his cheek with a small chu. Jax takes a moment to register what touched him before his face gradually blooms from periwinkle to fuchsia. Pomni touches her own mouth as though it moved of its own volition, looking at Jax to confirm what just happened. They stare at each other for an eternal two seconds*
Jax: I shouldâŚ
Pomni: Yeah.
*Jax about-faces and speeds to the door with the dishes in hand, barging his shoulder into the frame as he goes into the hall and shuts the door without looking back*

Hello yes hi Iâm not dead. Sorry, I got tangled up in playing Kingdom Hearts III and my birthday along with the usual mental struggles⌠But I got a new story. Itâs longer than the others, and it also dabbles in another ship that Iâm quite fond of along with Funnybunny. I enjoy Buttonblossom as well, Iâve always been of the opinion Pomni is bisexual. Not me projecting⌠anyway, this one is a little bit more dramatic. But I like it, even if itâs got a ton of ellipses, but itâs also got a big snake in it. Big snakes are cool. Enjoy, hopefully.
Jealousy, Thy Name is Rabbit
Today was a game of capture the flag set in a virtual jungle, girls against boys (boys and Zooble, just so it was 3 on 3). On the girlâs side, Ragatha was elected flag guard on account of being the tallest and widest, not that she had much in the way of competition from either of her teammates. Pomni and Gangle were the scouts sent to find the boysâ (And Zoobleâs) flag. Pomni had spent the last half hour on all fours, clambering through some cartoony underbrush. The various brambles may have been gaudy shades of orange and purple, but their thorns still hurt to climb through. Caine really needed to focus less on hazards and more on⌠well, fun.
Pomni: OW! F@&$! *Pomni covers her right eye as a stick jabs into it* Urgh⌠Gangle? Where are you?
Pomni poked her head cautiously out of the canopy of plants. Her teammate was nowhere to be found. Had they already gotten separated?
Pomni: PeachyâŚ
Pomni ducked back down into the underbrush and continued to crawl forward as best she could. Her coxcomb hat kept getting tangled in the briars, and leaves and bits of twig stuck to her hair. Caine had even gone to the effort of including irritating little bugs the size of pinpricks that crawled on her face and buzzed in her ear, which she routinely had to stop and swat. Thank god she had no nose or one of them definitely would have crawled up it by now. She peeked out from the underbrush again, spotting a small clearing up ahead. It looked like it could be the entrance to the enemy base. If she crawled, she could get there in about 10 minutes. Then it was a matter of getting past whoever they had guarding it, then getting back to her base and ending the game so they could go home. Apparently there was some sort of reward for whatever team won the round⌠Knowing Caine it would probably suck hard.
Pomni took a deep breath and dove back into the brush. If Jax was the flag guard, maybe she could convince him to give up the flag peacefully in exchange for some extra âalone timeâ that night. It was surreal to think that she had gone from hating the rabbitâs guts to him being one of her closest friends⌠just friends. Just friends that kissed and hugged and cuddled. Friends could do that. It had been Jaxâs idea to not use any words like ârelationshipâ or âromanceâ or âloveâ to describe what⌠whatever they had going on, in case of disaster. And they were both free to have âalone timeâ with other performers⌠at least thatâs what she assumed. Not like Jax was close with anyone else.
Pomni came to a large, fallen tree, black and flecked with neon colors. There was no way around it without adding several minutes to her already onerous trek, so she rolled her eyes, stretched, and began to clamber over the tree. The trunk was oddly squishy, it must have gotten soft from the moisture of the jungle floor. That was a pretty impressive detail for Caine to add⌠As she slid over to the opposite side, her bare legs touched the trunk. The texture was odd as well, smooth and oddly bumpy⌠no⌠scaly?
hhhhhhhhssssssssssccchhhhhâŚ
Pomni: Oh sweet f$&@.
The âtreeâ slid forward on its own, a good twenty feet of shiny, technicolor-on-obsidian mass emerging from the underbrush, a stoneâs throw from where Pomni was just crawling. The snake turned its refrigerator-sized head to look at Pomni. Its fishbowl eyes were different colors, each appearing to slowly change hues, its left eye yellow shifting green and its right eye purple shifting brown. It flicked out its tongue, pink with electric blue stripes and thick as Bubble Tape.
Pomni: Nonononononono-
Pomni took off running towards the clearing, but found herself hopelessly slowed down by the overgrown floor of the jungle, brambles snagging her legs and tripping her to her knees every few steps. The giant snake slithered up beside her before lazily, yet gracefully gliding in front of her and cutting her off, forming a loop around her with its body.
Pomni: -nonononononoNONONO! NO! NO! NONONONO!
Pomni tried to climb over the snake as it began to pull right around her, but only succeeded in sticking one arm out before the rest of her puny body was squeezed into immobility by the black rainbow serpent. She was so small that the snake barely needed to wrap around her once before she was trapped.
Pomni: NOOOOOOOO! NOOOOOOOO!!!
Pomni screamed blue murder. The panic of being cornered by a large predator and her phobia of being touched formed a cocktail of primal terror she hadnât experienced since first arriving at the circus. She shrieked and pounded on the snakeâs body with her one free hand, even trying to bite into its flesh, anything to get it to stop squeezing and let go. The snakeâs scales were far too hard to bite through, even chipping one of her teeth, and the reptile continued to squeeze tighter and tighter and tighter. Pomni felt her body begin to flare with pain as it was constricted to its limit⌠if she still had bones they probably would have been crushed into splinters by now. She didnât even have enough room left to scream, only managing a choked raspâŚ
And then there was a reverberating crack.
Voice: Let her go! I said let her go!
Another smack against the snake, and it hissed irritatedly this time. Pomni saw a faint purple and red outline out of the corner of her watery eyes, coming into clearer view as it strafed around the serpent.
Ragatha: Y-You want to lose an eye, Jafar?! Let her go, I said!
Ragatha had a sturdy tree branch in her hands, twigs sticking out of her hair and her dress stained with dirt. She took on the stance of a major league player and swung her makeshift bat with all her strength, cracking the snake on the chin. The reptile hissed, revealing fangs of all colors, and struck at Ragatha, who managed to stumble out of the way with a hairâs breadth between her arms and the snakeâs teeth. Ragatha put one hand at the top of her branch and the other in the middle and wound back.
Ragatha: Iâm sorry-!
Ragatha drove the branch into the snakeâs right eye, and it snarled, thrashing about in pain. Its coils loosened enough for Pomni to squirm free, landing on the jungle floor with a dry plop and scrambling backwards. The snake threw its head about a few more times before hastily slithering away into the jungle, frustrated but trounced.
Ragatha: Yeah! Get out of here! Iâm sorry, but get out of here! *much quieter* Iâm sorry⌠*she stiffens* Pomni! *She looks about before finding Pomni seated on the ground, and she hurries over to her* Pomni, hun- are you okay?!
Ragatha crouched down to Pomniâs level and looked her over. The jester was breathing rapid, shallow breaths, her usual red and blue roulette eyes replaced with black squiggles.
Ragatha: PomniâŚ! *she puts her hand on Pomniâs shoulder, but the jester reacts like sheâs been shocked and slaps her hand away*
Pomni: NO!
Ragatha: Woah heyheyhey! Pomni, itâs me, itâs Ragatha! Itâs gone, the snake is gone! Youâre safe..!
Pomni: Do-Do-Dooo-Donât touch me, donât⌠donât touch meâŚ
Ragatha: Okay sweetie, I wonât touch you, but are you hurt? Did it bite you?
Pomni: NâŚ..NoâŚ.
Pomniâs eyes, though now back to their usual colors, soon swam with tears and she buried her face in her gloves, beginning to sob. Ragatha, resisting the urge to hug the poor girl, took a moment to check on herself.
Ragatha: *examining her arm* Ohhh, I mustâve popped half my stitches⌠I hope I donât lose any stuffing⌠*she turns back to Pomni* I canât imagine how scary that must have been for you⌠are you afraid of snakes?
Pomni: *in between sobs N-N-No⌠I⌠I uh⌠I⌠I donât⌠I-I-I-I-I-
Ragatha: Hey⌠hey⌠match my breathing. Are you ready? In. *Ragatha takes a long, deep breath in* Out, like youâre blowing on a dandelion. *she lets her breath out.* Not too hard, right? Try it with me.
Pomni managed to slow down her sobs long enough to match Ragathaâs breathing exercise. It didnât make her feel any better, but it at least helped her get her words out
Pomni: Thank you⌠*sniffle* You-You⌠Iâm sorry I didnât⌠save youâŚ
Ragatha: Save me?
Pomni: On my first day⌠w-when KaufmoâŚ
Ragatha: *smiles* Oh, hun. Itâs okay. It was your first day. I would have done the exact same thing in your shoes.
Pomniâs eyes welled up with new tears.
Pomni: I-Iâm sorry⌠I was so⌠I didnât⌠I didnât deserve to get⌠savedâŚ
Ragatha: Nooo, no, Pomni, donât say that! Weâre all weâve got⌠I wouldnât let you or anyone else get eaten, okay..?
Ragatha placed a hand on Pomniâs shoulder unconsciously, and the jester girl flinched.
Ragatha: Oh shoot, Iâm sorry! *she takes her hand away* I forgot-!
Pomni: âŚN-No⌠if itâs just⌠I-I calmed down⌠I can⌠handle it⌠I-I just I wasnât⌠I wasnât expecting it, I⌠I⌠Iâm sorryâŚ
Ragatha: âŚCan you handle a hug? Itâs okay if you canât, but- OOF!l
Pomni threw herself into Ragatha, wrapping her arms around the ragdoll woman and hiding her face in her chest. Ragatha smiled and hugged the newcomer back, rubbing the back of her head.
Ragatha: Donât worry nowâŚ
They remained like that for a while. Pomni had never actually touched Ragatha before, and it was⌠odd, but pleasant. She felt much the same as a cloth doll, dense and tightly-knit fabric wrapped around a soft filling like cotton or polyester. But she was unmistakably warm, the same way Jax was. Although Pomni still felt sick with fear, the sensation of a friend holding her helped ease the churning in her belly.
Pomni: âŚThank you, Ragatha.
Ragatha: What are friends for, right
The two performers locked eyes. Both of them became acutely aware of a not-unpleasant heat glowing on their cheeks. Ragatha broke the pregnant silence by chuckling nervously.
Ragatha: Hahaha⌠sooooâŚ
Caine: CON-GRATULATIONS TO TEAM ZOOBLE!
Out of nowhere, Caine exploded onto the scene, a neon-marquee sign emerging above him that wanted to spell out âcongratulationsâ but appeared to malfunction and sputter, spelling out âcrodulatesâ instead.
Ragatha: Oh no, the flag⌠I completely forgot!
Pomni: *automatically* Who gives a s#%@âŚ
Caine: THATâS RIGHT, RAGATHA! WHILE YOU WERE OUT HERE, JAX ESCAPED WITH THE FLAG YOU WERENâT GUARDING! AND POMNI! *he points his cane at her, causing the jester to flinch* CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU FOR FINDING ALGER, THE RAINBOA CONSTRICTOR! I was wondering where he wentâŚ
Pomni: It has a name!
Ragatha: Uh yeah, Caine, about that snake-
Caine snapped his fingers, and all of a sudden, the six performers were back in the tent. Zooble, Jax and Kinger looked about the same despite some odd leaves and sticks stuck to their clothes. Gangle landed with a wet slap beside Pomni and Ragatha, groaning and dripping wet.
Ragatha: Gangle, there you are⌠whereâve you been?
Gangle: I-I fell in the river and got washed downstreamâŚ
Caine: SO, FOR WINNING THE GAME, TEAM ZOOBLE WINSâŚ!
There was a drumroll that went on for far too long. Pomni made eye contact with Jax, but neither of them smiled. She was still getting over the encounter with the Rainboa Constrictor⌠but what was wrong with him?
Caine: âŚâŚâŚâŚâŚAN ALL DAY PASS TO THE DIGITAL AMUSEMENT PARK!
Zooble: Yippee-skippee. Not like we havenât gotten that prize at least three times before. Can I go now?
Ragatha: Yeah, Caine, I ripped some stitches, can I go back to my room
Pomni: *to Ragatha* Are you okay?
Jax: Oh yeah, Iâm sure sheâs fine. You got a pretty close look back in the jungle, didnât you?
Jaxâs usual brand of sarcasm came out as oddly venomous, not even sporting his typical snarky grin.
Pomni: What are you talking about..?
Jax: I donât know. You tell me. Anyway, f@&$ you all. Iâm going back to my room.
Jax walked away from the group, stunning even Caine into silence. Jax almost never swore.
Caine: Boy, you give a guy a pass to an amusement park and he thanks you like that.
Bubble emerged from Caineâs hat with a toilet brush
Bubble: We should wash his mouth out, Caine!
Zooble: Whatever, dinner without Jax sounds good to me.
Gangle: Uh⌠h-has anyone seen Pomni..?
âââââââââ
Pomni marched down the hallway to Jaxâs room, pounding on his door.
Pomni: Jax! Open up!
Silence.
Pomni: âŚOh for⌠*deep breath, gentler tone of voice* Jax, itâs Pomni. Can we talk?
Silence.
Pomni: âŚYouâre going to make me say it, arenât you? Fine. âOh great Jax, may I please enter yourâŚâ *cringes* ââŚyour humble abode.â Eugh⌠*she glances around to make sure nobody heard that*
Still more silence.
Pomni: Okay, he must be somewhere else if heâs not responding to thatâŚ
A voice came from behind the door
Jax: Itâs unlocked.
Pomni: Oh. Then why the h@&$ am I knocking? *she opens the door* Jax! What was⌠thatâŚ
Pomniâs anger trailed off as she saw Jax laying in bed, covers pulled all the way up to his chin. He faced away from Pomni, looking at nothing in particular.
Jax: Come on in.
Pomni: âŚWhat⌠Why did you blow up like that back there?
Jax: You really donât know?
Pomni: No..?
Jax: âŚThatâs fine. I guess Iâm being the irrational one.
Pomni: Yeah, you are. I was attacked by a snake⌠A huge f@&$-off snake that almost squeezed me to death!
Jax: What?
Pomni: Oh, did you miss that part?! Lemme say it again. *shouting* A! BIG! SNAKE! NEARLY!-
Jax: *shouting right back* ALRIGHT! I DIDNâT KNOW ABOUT THAT, BUT- I saw you with Ragatha.
Pomni: *genuine confusion* What?!
Jax: In the jungle, stupid! I saw you and Ragatha!
Pomni: âŚShe saved me from the snake. You heard Caine talking about it⌠she saved me!
Jax: âŚYou were blushing.
Pomni: Who cares?! I- wait you were watching us for that long?
Jax: You were right outside our base.
Pomni: âŚOh my god. Youâre jealous.
Jax: What..?
Pomni: Youâre jealous! You thought me and Ragatha were- OH MY GOD.
Pomni laughed incredulously, which made Jax shoot up in bed like a snapped wire.
Jax: Donât you laugh at me!!!
Pomni: Iâm not-! I never thought youâd take it seriously!
Jax: What, my first relationship?! Yeah, I can see how that would be HARD to take seriously?!
Pomni: What are you- wait. Iâm your first?
Jax: âŚ
There was a long period of silence before Pomni swallowed.
Pomni: Well⌠look, you said you didnât want a relationship, so⌠I mean⌠I didnât mean to make you mad, but I was attacked. So Iâm not going to apologize for hugging Ragatha⌠she helped me.
Jax: Okay.
Pomni: âŚUm. But⌠itâs⌠itâs okay. To be mad⌠I guess? I donât know. I guess you thought I was cheatingâŚ? Right?
Jax: I guess.
Pomni: Well, I wasnât.
Jax: You were blushing, though.
Pomni: Yeah, so what? Sheâs⌠*swallows and turns slightly pink despite herself* Sheâs pretty. For a ragdoll. It doesnât mean youâre any less⌠nice to be around. Or look at. For a rabbit.
Jax: âŚWhat are you, gay?
Pomniâs words caught in her throat as she looked at Jax, who had finally managed his usual toothy smirk.
Pomni: *small snort* God, shut upâŚ
Jax: âŚIâm sorry though. I didnât know about the snake.
Pomni: You didnât hear me scream?
Jax: You scream a lot.
Pomni: âŚYeah. I guess so. So⌠this is more than just a⌠âfriends who kissâ thing, now? Itâs aâŚ
Jax: Nah. Weâre still just âfriends that kiss.â But if you want to go be âfriends that kissâ with Ragatha⌠at least tell me before you do, okay?
Pomni: I will. Iâm sorry.
Jax: Relax. You didnât do anything. Apart from almost being snake food. âŚDo⌠you want a hug? Or something?
Pomni: âŚUh⌠honestly, not really? I-Iâm kinda iffy on being touched anyway and the snake squeezing me like that⌠it really screwed with me. But uhâŚ
Pomni closed the distance between them and planted a kiss on Jaxâs lips, having to lean on his knees and stand on her tiptoes to reach the lankier rabbitâs face.
Pomni: *blushing* Itâs really sweet to know you take this seriously. Iâll see you later, okay..?
Pomni headed back to her room, shutting Jaxâs door behind her. The rabbit licked his lips. He then laid back down on the bed, staring at the door.
Jax: You hugged Ragatha.

Have any of you read this sad yet amazingly written Funnybunny fanfic yet:
Jax and Pomni are fuck buddies here (but thereâs also plot involving their lives outside, which I will not put to detail as to not spoil for those who want to read it) âbut Jax went and did something dumb in the most recent chapter, and now Pomni isnât fucking him anymore.
Iâm speaking of this now, because when watching Helluva Boss, one heartbreaking Stolitz song reminded me of this fanfic. (All 2 U)
Now excuse me, you can leave now or read further into my cringe imagination:
Pomni: âI let you get too close⌠I let it go too far⌠Now I know, now I know⌠Now I know exactly what you aaaare!â
Ragatha and Zooble: âNa na na, na na, naâŚ. A motherf- - -er. Na na na, na na, naâŚ. A motherf- - -er.â
Pomni: âI don't think you meant to hurt me⌠'Cause I don't think it meant a thing at allâŚâ

Pomni: âI let it go too long⌠I let you go too deep⌠Now I know, now I know, Now I know there's one thing I can't keep.â
âBut I, I keep on waiting⌠Waiting to want you less than I do⌠And I do, oh, I do, yes I still do want you.â
âBut maybe it's all on me? For missing every sign and every glance and every turnâŚâ
Ragatha and Zooble: âNo, no, no, he's a motherf- - -er!â
Pomni: âMaybe there's something here for us to glean? For you to teach and me to try and learnâŚâ
Ragatha and Zooble: âNo, no, no, he's a motherf- - -er!â
Pomni: â'Cause I am not a thief, but you were mine to earnâŚâ
âWhat if I came on too strong?â
âWhat if I read this all wrong?â
âWhat if we just don't belong?â
âAll this what if, what if, what if, what if, what if, what if âWhy, why, why, why why why, makes me buuurn!â
âOh, I don't think you meant to hurt me⌠'Cause I don't think it meant a thing at all!â
Ragatha and Zooble: âWell, did it?â
Pomni: âNo, not at allâŚ!â
(Ragatha and Zooble: âDidnât mean a goddamn thing!â)
All: âAt all, at all, at allâŚâ
Ragatha and Zooble: âDidn't mean a, didn't mean aâŚâ
Pomni: âAt all, at all, at allâŚâ
Ragatha and Zooble: âDidn't mean a, didn't mean aâŚâ
Pomni: âAt all, at aaaall to you!â
