Anyway, it is basically five am and after making a cardboard inkle loom to try tablet weaving, I enjoyed it. Both the cardboard carpentry and the tablet weaving.
Good news/bad news in regards to the weaving, the pegs finally gave out bad news, good news, I realized the tv dinner tables have two parallel bars between the legs, so flipping it over on top of ANOTHER tv table, and I can set up a weighted warp without worrying about the cats smacking the weights.
It’s still fumbly, and the sound of 4 dollars worth of pennys clacking about in plastic bags is a bit grating. But it’s something I can work on.
Between the pegs giving out, trying out a weighted warp set up, and just trying things, I ended up with a lot of scrap yarn.
Specifically, crochet cotton.
Now I don’t use crochet cotton often, and with the amount of joins I’d end up having to make, even if I crocheted something with it, I don’t think it would make me happy.
So what to do with all these bits?
I’ve already mentioned cats, multiple cats, so multiple slicker brushes exist in the house. And the Ren faire before last, I learned you could use slicker brushes to card fibers for spinning on a budget.
So I’ve been working through the scraps as best I can, having to relearn carding because cotton fibers are shorter than fleece and need to be treated differently.
The short fibers of cotton also means, that any attempts at spinning should be done with an specific awareness of weight/tension, as the draft and yarn are more susceptible to snapping. Now I have a top whorl drop spindle, I’ve used it for wool and even cat hair (no I didn’t use the cat hair yarn, it was just for something to do) and it lasted a bit, but after too much over spin and the dowel end smacking my desk, it snapped.
So I had some options,
Try the drop spindle again, carding out the end of the snap and drafting back into it
make a supported spindle, I have dowels, I have chunks of cardboard I could soak in modge podge for the whorl, and I’m willing to try whittling a point, if using a pencil sharpener wouldn’t work
More cardboard carpentry
Chat, I want you to guess which one I decided to do
…
Did you guess the most convoluted and labor intensive option?
Because I did.
It’s called a Charkha, a spinning wheel that’s design originated in India, and to my understanding, was built with cotton in mind.
It’s hand operated opposed to pedal powered (I’m assuming modifications could be made) but that along with the fact the actual wheel portion of the spinning wheel isn’t a usually a wheel, but instead two sets of spokes connected via string, I figured it would actually be possible to achieve with cardboard carpentry.
I got one of the spoke sets done already, I have to finish the other one then see how they act when tied together and spun.
Theoretically, this set up should be pretty sustainable, considering how little tension is required to hold certain things in place, and how few actually moving parts there are, theoretically, it could be a functioning replacement for a full wooden charkha. Not permanent, that’s just the nature of cardboard, but certainly more long lasting than the inkle loom.

Rally’s Scribbles in the Work
So after that lovely anon blew my mind away with their kind words and wonderful support, and because I keep telling you guys about my writing plans without actually giving you even a teensy little detail, I have decided to stop being coy and actually likely get your hopes up a bit by dilvulging small details and bits of plots of what is currently going on in my G-Drive.
This will be a brief recount of what I have currently baking in the AoMomo oven, so let’s dive right into it! Please note that the numbers are in no particular order - I just keep revisiting each of these stories and writing a bit more to them whenever I feel like it. So there’s no ranking and no importance, just a number to keep proper count.
1. “Knight of Renown” Dragons and Knighthood AU, based on that one AoMomo pic with Momo ithe Knight and Dragon Aomine that I reblogged a while back and I actually let me imagination go a bit too much in the tags. I ended up actually rather enjoying the premise I set up in the tags so I actually started writing that one out! Completion rate at about: 5%? I’d say? Less? :D
2. AoMomo Music AU - a dearly beloved project that I am pouring a lot of love and attentioin to. That’s why it’s coming along super slow. It’s been in the making since November and I chewed it and mulled through it so thoroughly that I’ve grinded to a halt with it. Intending for there to be 2 chapters, and I am at about 25-30% of chapter 1 currently ready currently. At the pace I’m going, it might be another full year before you actually get to see this bad boy up, but when you do, I’m sure you’ll see all the care and effort that went into making it perfect. Honestly, no joke here, I am intending for this to be one of my rare masterpieces in this tag. So I’m not gonna rush it!
3. AoMomo Car Accident AU where Daiki barely manages to save Satsuki from being run over by a hit-and-run and ends up being the one run over instead. This was my first piece of writing after coming back to AoMomo last summer and yet completion rate is a sad thing. I want it to be flawless, a perfectly agonizing, thrilling type of torturous read that gives you a great sense of relief by the end of it. Needless to say, the clusterfuck of negative feelings is a bit difficult to hold onto for a prolonged period of time and the work is coming along slowly. Planned at about 5 chapters, I have 2 complete ones and the 3rd one is at about ... 30%? Hopefully before this year’s whumptober, we’ll have a finished piece!
4. AoMomo bond character study, which went in a direction I did NOT expect nor intend. It was suppsoed to be an idea that you will see also listed below. But I started this one from their early childhood and somehow, instead of focusing on the kids and their bond and their weird interactions with each other and their first moments of realizing they are of opposite genders, it turned into something much too fun to let go of and the ideas for scenes just kept piling. It’s going to be a long one, very explorative and very in-depth character study on the bond between these two and how it changed over the years, and their first encounters with their sexuality inbetween (because that was really the main idea that I started with... xDDD;;;) Currently at 1 chapter complete, chapter 2 somewhere around 50-60% completion, and at least 6-7 chapters to come after that, soooo.... :’DDDD YEAH. THIS ONE AIN’T SEEING THE LIGHT OF DAY ANYTIME SOON.
5. AoMomo deciding to practice stuff on each other, because I am a sucker for this trope.THIS will be what the idea under previous number 4 was SUPPOSED to be like, but it instead spun out of control. So this one, under number 5, is going to be the smutty, idiots bumbling through physicality to discover that they actually have serious feelings for each other kind of piece. Chapters are planned at about at least 6-7 or so, but not my usual monstrocities! :D First we start with practice kissing, and we move our way up from there!
6. “The Evil of Humanity” AU - a dystopian futuristic kinda mecha AU, sort of an amalgamation of some of my favourite anime in the genre - a bit of NGE, a bit of Gurren-Lagann, a lot of Darling in the Franxx rewrite and improvement, in distinctly AoMomo colors. I poured a lot of thought and love into initial outline of main moments for this one, and I really hope to make it an epic, thrilling action/adventure with a big dash of romance kind of read! Chapters currently not even planned properly, because I need to sit down and consider this seriously. It will definitely be more than 10-15 though, and they will be my usual chapter lengths so.... likely no time soon. :D
7. Aomine Fanclub - I got a plot bunny some time ago and I shared it here and my friends were spurring me on with it, so I started trying it out a little more. I’ve written out like... maybe 30% of this one as well, but need to re-read and reconceptualize to get it back on track. The issue with this one is that I’m not really sure where I want to take it, thus it’s on the back burner at the moment.
8. KagaKuro AoMomo double-date kind of story, where Aomine is asking some curious questions of Taiga about going to America and pondering if any of his immediate friends know what Satsuki wants to do with her life. I’m really invested in this one but haven’t started properly writing it out yet beyond just sketching out the idea so I don’t forget it. (I’d say 1% complete here.) Really looking forward to using the idea of Kagami being super impressed with AoMomo perfect sync when playing as a team in arcade games!
9.Laws of Attraction Chapter 2 - You might be surprised at this, but I’m actually super invested in this one. Likely the reason why I am delaying so much working on it - I feel like all my great scene ideas are just too chaotic and I have a hard time starting the chapter flowing properly. I had like 4-5 false starts already and I’m feeling a bit skittish with picking it up. But I have such AMAZING concepts on where to take it after it revvs up the engine, so... Maybe sometime this year! Completion rate: 0% written, but at least about 30% ideas built up for the installment!
10. AoMomo college rooming together story - sort of an expansion on my fill for one of the prompts way back those years ago in AoMomo week. I really dig the concept and the trope of sharing spaces with someone you consider nothing more than a friend and then gradually learning to appreciate each other for something so much more. I am definitely doing this one some day, but not anytime soon, likely.
11. A random idea bit me the other day (read: a month ago) and I actually wrote out like... maybe 25% of it already as well. A random comment from Wakamatsu miffs Satsuki but then she realizes why he’s asking dumb questions and she comes to realize that something is wrong with the equation: either Dai-chan likes someone really close to them and she hasn’t realized, which is unlikely, or Dai-chan likes HER and is super blase about it in a way that betrays his feelings not at all, which is even more unlikely. Being a curious individual, she sets out to find which it is! Some hilarity should ensue but mostly just some mess-with-Dai-chan fun!
12. Touou summer training camp at the sea - progress is practically 0, I wanted to write a summery piece and set my mind on this, but nothing beyond has come to me, so I’m not forcing it.
13. AoMomo cultural festival fic in second year of high school (meaning something approx end of Oct -> beginning of Nov.) with Daiki being in a distinctly Haruhu Suzumiya role at that festival (has anyone even seen this anime? I adored that episode to freaking bits, man, it’s engraved upon my soul) and singing Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell” and one more song just like Haruhi did. And Satsuki just beholding the phenomenon he becomes in no time flat while he lays bare his passion for life for all the student body to see. Shippiness will happen in private afterwards!
14. You Can Leave Your Hat On Chapter 2 - Probably like 2-3 years ago while I was still in the damn woodwork and wrestling with real life and adulting being crap, I remembered this AU premise and I got super hyped on the idea of Club Owner Dai-chan being a flirt with innocent Satsuki who got dragged to his joined and fell in love at first sight with his shenanigans. I’ve already played around for like 7k words with the second chapter of this but I’m still not where I want to be at, so it will take a while longer to flesh it out.
15. Idol Worship - a story that I promised my mate aricana some 6 years ago the premise for which I am super hyped for but not quite engaging with it yet. The idea was that Momoi finally starts gettiing the dates she has been pesting Kuroko for for years, and Daiki feeling terrible about beholding that, whilst Kise is being pestered by Horikita Mai for a date and instead ditches her with Daiki because he knows his former Teikou classmate is a huge fan of her. Mai-chan isn’t particularly happy but somehow ends up enjoying her time with Daiki and starts considering actually pursuing him instead of Kise when she sees what an interesting soul he is, with the torch that he’s carrying for some girl in his life he doesn’t really talk about but is evident from the little things he drops off as hits. AoMomo shenanigans will start to ensue properly when Satsuki realizes that Daiki is actually having a close female friend who is not her but is Horikita Mai instead, Dai-chan’s perfect woman, practically. She doesn’t take well to the news and has to grapple with why that is! And what to do with these newfound frustrating emotions!
16. Obstruction of Justice Chapter 3 - MAYBE SOME DAY, I WILL GET TO WRITING THIS. Last summer I inteded to do just that but instead, Wild Side of Justice was born. And it became a spin off of sorts on its own. ORZ. I WILL FINISH THIS SOME DAY, I do have some plans for it and I do have the desire to pursue them. I just need to be in the right headspace for it ahsjkfhkjaf
17. A PWP story of Kagami arriving early for a practice match at Touou and somehow walking in on AoMomo getting busy with each other in very unexpected and explicit ways that Kagami did not see headed his way. Because, we need more PWP in this fandom, honestly.
18. And since we DO need more PWP, recently when checking the 30 lemons community on LJ (shut up, I’m not ancient, YOU’RE ANCIENT) I was wondering how exactly a smut plot around the “Taken by the Faceless Stranger” could work for Aomomo and I came up with this Masquerade ball that they end up both attending because of their friends and meeting each other and hitting off fantastically just chatting the night and then banging in a niche in the long castle-like premise of the ball. :’DDDD Cuz it’s me and if I don’t have something like that in the works, you know i’m likely sick.
ALL OF THESE I am planning on eventually finishing one day. ONE DAY!
For now they are in various states of completion and in various stages of being cared for and improved on with more ideas added and fleshed out.
I am not joking when I say I am very invested in this fandom. I just have difficulty getting to writing out these ideas when I spend like 60% of my free time playing my mobile games. :D
So there you have it. I didn’t want to say anything about these because 1) I don’t want to get your hopes up. You Can Leave Your Hat On 2, for one, has been in the making for 3 years, very on-again-off-again kind of way, and I just... can’t do that to you guys. I have decided against posting any incomplete fics so I don’t torture you guys and my muse doesn’t abandom me forever for them. So when something is complete, it gets posted promptly for your viewing pleasure!
And 2) If I divulge too much of the story, I feel like my hype of it may disappear completely. Ehh, my muse is a willful creature, what can I tell you...
So let’s hope at least SOME of these get to see the light of day soon!

Changing Seasons || Attendy
Summary: Atta tells Wendy the truth and they break up :(
@flippin--corduroy
ATTA:
She’d been avoiding Wendy.
She did not want to avoid Wendy, but at first she’d not known what to do. There was much to organize now that Atta would resume her talent, and the Hollow was full of buzz at the reveal that there was not only a royal, but that the royal was...well...her… the list-making tinker from the Orkney Hollow. She needed space and time to deal with all of that first. This was what Atta told herself. Once things calmed, then she’d contact Wendy and explain…
But when things did calm, she realized that an explanation would come with an ending. That was the only choice. That had always been the only choice. Royals could love, of course they could love. There was nothing in the rules, really, that said they couldn’t. But they didn’t. Because it wouldn’t be best for the Hollow.
And loving a human mundus? They certainly never did that.
And so Atta needed to stop being cruel, and sending unclear texts and making up excuses about her classes and her duties. So, finally, she asked Wendy to meet her somewhere, and they returned to Chippamunka, where they’d had their first date.
Atta’s first ever date.
She regretted coming here the moment she sat down and she stared at the menu in front of her. An awkward silence festered between both her and Wendy in those initial minutes. The words were lodged in Atta’s throat. She didn’t want to say them. She still wanted a way around all this, but she knew there wasn’t, and this-- like so many things-- was her responsibility.
She stirred a little sugar into her water and finally cleared her throat. “I ah...first of all, I just… wanted to apologize for things in recent weeks. And for scaring you on the ice.”
WENDY
Wendy knew something had been up. Atta had been dodging plans and texts for the better part of the last few weeks. She was always busy with something in the Hollow or with her sister or with school. Honestly, Wendy felt like the needy one in all this and it wasn’t a great feeling when you were used to being the girl who was aloof and chill and noncommittal.
What worried her more was that when Atta had next resurfaced again, she asked her to Chippamunka. It was their first date spot. The night where Wendy really got to know and understand the fairy she’d been crushing on and flirting with. It was the night of their first kiss and the night she gave her the case for the log that had begun their friendship. It was all just so heavy and Wendy wasn’t one to get into heavy.
So she gave Atta a smile and they had a little bit of a small talk but that awkward silence came. The moment where Wendy could ask what’s up with Atta but didn’t because well, she didn’t want to make it seem like she’d made more of this relationship than what Atta had intended. Maybe she was just more attached. Maybe they were just on the wrong pages of this story.
Wendy played with the condensation on her soda glass, fingers drawing little patterns in the beads of water, leaning back in her chair a bit and glancing between the glass and Atta.
Then Atta started and although Wendy had expected it to go this way, she still felt her heart sink lower. It wasn’t a good beginning and it sounded really formal, like she and Atta were in a meeting or something and not two friends (or two something-mores).
“It’s alright. I mean, it’s not every day you save a girl from an icy fall.” Wendy tried to joke but it landed flat. “I’m just glad you’re okay, and you know, now that I’ve seen you, there’s physical evidence to prove it.”
She gave a shrug of one shoulder and a slight smile before breathing out, maybe she should just come to the conclusion first before Atta had time to say it, rip the bandaid off, “As for the last couple weeks, maybe I just read signals wrong and put more into this than I should have. I didn’t mean to badger you with texts or anything.”
ATTA:
Her eyes widened. Oh no, no, no, that wasn’t what she wanted Wendy to think at all! The guilt turned into a cascading waterfall, drenching Atta underneath it. She reached forward without thinking, taking Wendy’s beautiful strong hands and squeezing one of them, as if she were much smaller. She’d always loved Wendy’s hands, since the second she saw them. They made beautiful things.
“No! No, you didn’t-- nothing you did was wrong,” blurted Atta. “I was the confusing one. I...didn’t mean to be. Everything I said was true. Well--”
Atta had practiced this speech. She had turned this whole conversation into a task to be checked off, or perhaps similar to a duty to perform. However, now that she was sitting right here, she couldn’t find her way to the words. Everything felt just...wrong.
She drew her hand back and her eyes got a bit shiny. She glanced away quickly, breathed in softly, and then out again.
If she were to be honest, then she’d have to confess to Wendy now that she had lied from the start. Wendy would probably be angry with her, as she should be. Maybe that would be for the best. It would be a sudden, painful break.
“No, it wasn’t. It--” she stumbled, took another breath and then finally looked back at Wendy again. “I haven’t been honest from the start, actually. You see, I...I’m not a tinker, like I told you or everyone else. In my old Hollow, before it was destroyed, I…”
It was still hard to say it. Every single time, she wanted to break down and cry as if she was confessing to murdering her own Hollow. (For some reason these two things felt the same.)
“I am what’s called a royal-talent. A princess. I...was going to become queen when our King stepped down. But then...the oil spill and…” she trailed off and looked down, fiddling with a braided bracelet on her wrist.
WENDY
The redhead’s brows furrowed as Atta started backtracking and trying to explain herself into a circle. Atta took her hands and she felt warm again, like awkwardness had melted away to a warm feeling and she wasn’t here getting broken up with. Because that’s what was happening right? That’s what this was leading up to. Atta’s hands were small and soft, but strong. Her thumbs ran along the backs of them as they held hands for a moment before Atta pulled back.
And when Atta pulled back and hesitated, it was that she’d lied about something. Was she seeing someone else? Wendy had heard polyamory was kind of a thing in fairy culture was that it? She bit her lip, wondering what she’d lied about. She thought they’d told each other everything. That’s what this was. It was honest, right? They could just be themselves.
Well, apparently Atta hadn’t necessarily been herself with how this conversation had turned.
As Wendy let Atta talk her mind raced as to what she could’ve found so terrible as to hide from Wendy. The redhead never thought anything Atta had ever been was bad. Atta could’ve honestly done no wrong in the woodworkers eyes, but then again, maybe she’d been seeing all this with rose colored glasses. Blinded by her infatuation or something like that.
Her heart hammered in her chest when Atta confessed she was lying from the very beginning. She just wanted to know.
And then it came out. A royal talent. She was supposed to become queen. She was… a princess? Wendy had literally been dating a fairy princess?
She was silent a moment as her eyes widened, trying to process this new information before a small grin appeared on her face, “So… I’ve been kissing a princess this whole time?” She snorted slightly, “Atta… I’m not gonna judge you because you’re a fairy princess or something. I mean yeah that’s like a big part of your life but that doesn’t change things for me.”
And once that came out of her mouth her smile faded because it finally dawned on her, her voice grew quiet and a bit meek. “But… it does for you, doesn’t it?” It wasn’t really a question. “I… well, I mean I don’t want to be like offensive to fairy culture if this is wrong but are you about to tell me that you need to marry a fairy prince?” She looked down at the table a bit, drawing little doodles with her finger tips on the table top.
This was like getting the shit end of the stick in a romantic comedy wasn’t it? When a royal hides their identity and you find out you’ve been dating them all along. If Wendy were the character in that movie, she’d say she could learn. They’d stand up to the king or queen and say, this is the person I’m going to marry. But this wasn’t a movie and Wendy wasn’t ready for marriage, hell she didn’t even know if they’d been dating. And try as she might… Wendy would never be a fairy.
ATTA:
Atta was once again a coward. She sat there and let Wendy stumble her way through the news. She watched, like watching a dam collapse in on itself, as Wendy realized what Atta was really saying. It was easier that way, wasn’t it? She didn’t want to have to explain that she could not kiss Wendy anymore. That they would not have any more coffee dates on campus, nor go ice skating on the lake.
In fact, Atta did not know what her life was going to look like in the coming moons. She was still discussing her training with Clarion, considering she had come so far in her old Hollow before its destruction. She and Clarion were in completely new territory, unsure how long it would take for Atta to make a proper connection with the pixie tree, to absorb the amount of memories she would need to. Perhaps they would flood in. Or perhaps it would be a mere trickle, and she’d spend the next twenty years starting her training all over.
Either way… she knew what the duties would be. There was no place for Wendy there.
Her heart sank. The tears in her eyes shined, making her blue eyes even bluer. But she was a royal-talent and she had to start acting like it again. And in this respect at least, it was easy. It was much, much too easy to hold all those tears back.
But when she took a breath, it was a heavy breath, and she felt exhausted already like she’d been flying for days without rest.
She smiled very sadly. “No, I don’t...have to marry a fairy prince. We don’t have those. In fact, the way our Hollows work...there is only one royal-talent at a time. Two, I suppose, if there is an apprentice. But when it’s my time to protect the Hollow and become Queen, Queen Clarion will lose her connection with the tree. She will step down and live the rest of her days out peacefully, and I will rule for as long as it takes for another royal-talent to be born. So you see, I… I won’t… it isn’t appropriate for me to see anyone.”
Before Wendy, Atta had not even given it much thought at all, for she had wanted to do her best, and she had more than enough love for her Hollow and her family.
“Which is why I’m so grateful I was able to experience a little bit of that with you. I...know it was unfair of me, and selfish, but I really didn’t intend...I didn’t think I would make a new connection with the Enchantra’s tree because it wasn’t mine, I really didn’t. When it happened, I was shocked and scared and...I didn’t know what to do. I handled it poorly, and I’m so sorry if I’ve hurt you because of that.”
WENDY
The minute Atta’s eyes shone those tears, Wendy wanted to reach across the table and wipe them from her eyes. She wanted to do anything. Honestly, just anything, other than have this conversation and be told that they were too different. That they came from different cultures and had different responsibilities. Because in the last few months, Wendy had only known that they had become more and more the same. They shared the same interests. Laughed at the same things. Wendy’s smile reflected Atta’s. And even now, Wendy’s eyes and heart fought hard not to join Atta in the hopelessness and just glisten with tears.
“Queen Atta.” Wendy said simply with a sad sort of smile, “Fits.” She said simply, her fingers playing with her napkin as her eyes broke from the other girl’s. “You always sort of were one to me you know. A fairy princess, basically. You just… It was hard to not see that there was something inherently special about you.”
Wendy glanced up at Atta again, this time her eyes definitely betrayed her, “I mean this is all like a lot and from what I’m understanding you couldn’t have known, not after what had happened so I don’t--Atta just please don’t think I’m mad at you for this.” She bit down on her lip trying to figure out her words, “Did I think the whole waiting game of it all was kind of you know, handled not so great the last couple weeks? Well, yeah. But, I’m not mad. I guess I just sort of know where I stand with you which is I guess what I wanted in the first place.” That was a lie if she dug deep enough, what she wanted in the first place was Atta.
“I wish I knew what to say, you know?” She gave a slight laugh, looking up at the ceiling as if that would somehow give her an answer and stop her eyes from watering. “I just never really expected circumstance to be the reason we ended.” The redhead ran her fingers along the table, leaning forward a bit and adjusting herself in her seat, she took in a breath trying to focus on something other than the clenching feeling in her chest and the emotions that washed over her, “Um, do you still think we can hang out or are you going to be kind of in the Hollow more?”
ATTA:
Atta hadn’t expected this either. Her time with Wendy had really been a faerytale, to use the language of the humans. It was an escape from her life, from her grief, from her sadness, and from herself. She’d learned so much. She’d become so much. And it was all thanks to Wendy, really-- she owed her so much. Without Wendy, Atta wasn’t sure if Swynlake would have felt close to something like...home.
But what could have been a terrifying, strange place, full of new challenges, had transformed into an adventure. Because she had Wendy there to help her.
The tears pricked her eyes again, but she knew they were not the type of tears that would fall. The weight in her chest was too heavy for something like tears. It was the type of weight that carved out a huge canyon between the two of them, and that boundary was something that Atta knew she shouldn’t cross. She wanted to. But--Atta could play out what that relationship would look like and she knew it was a ship beached from the beginning. After all, she wouldn’t have time to spend much time out of the Hollow. Atta would stop aging quite soon. Wendy wouldn’t. Wendy couldn’t live in the Hollow, even if, like Atta had said so many times, she would make an excellent tinker…
And even if she could remove some of those obstacles, Atta would never be able to share the most important things with Wendy. The traditions, the stories, the day-to-day struggles…
That wasn’t a relationship. Wendy deserved more than that.
All Atta could offer was friendship instead. And so she smiled and nodded. “I will be in the Hollow a lot more but-- I mean, I talked to Queen Clarion and she actually thinks it’s a good idea I continue on in my Pride U studies. So we can definitely be friends. I--I would love to be friends, if that isn’t asking too much,” she finished quietly. “I understand though if...you don’t want to.”
WENDY
Well that was good right? Atta was going to keep up her Pride U stuff so they could still hang out. That was totally fine. They could hang out and not like cuddle or kiss or make out or flirt or you know, act coupley right? That was totally doable. Sure. Lesbians always were better at remaining friends with their ex’s right? If Atta was even an ex. She kind of felt like an ex but they had never been dating officially.
Wendy gave a slight smile at that, “I think we can be friends, Atta.” And that was the truth. She thought they could. She didn’t know for sure that it would work but she thought, sure, why not, they could do it. They had common interests and it would be totally fine.
They’d had a really good run. She might’ve really fallen for the fairy if they’d continued so its probably better off that they didn’t. She could just go back to flirting with women in Pixie’s and hooking up without thinking about Atta and faltering. She was uninhibited now. She knew where they stood, she should be happy right?
Then why did this feel like she almost knocked herself out with a low hanging tree limb she hadn’t seen before? (Yeah that had happened more than once being out in the forest at her height). Whatever, it would have never worked and now it won’t. Good to know.
ATTA:
Atta smiled back, but it didn’t really reach her eyes. Though Wendy was taking everything gracefully, all Atta could feel was… sad.
In that moment, staring at Wendy, it was like looking at a life she could never have. That was her punishment. If she had been honest from the very first day she stepped into the Enchantra Hollow, she would never have pursued Wendy in the first place. She would have resumed her training. If she and Wendy met, she would have introduced herself as Princess of the Hollow, and remained at a distance always. There would have never been dates to Chippamunka, kisses in dusty workshoppes that smell like the forest, or laughter on ice skating rinks.
And there would never have been a need for good-bye.
But then… if Atta played all that out, she supposed the two of them might not have even become friends. Just...acquaintances. Perhaps business partners, considering Oaken’s deal with Queen Clarion. And that alternative was even more sad, even if it would have spared Atta’s heart and Wendy’s time. Everything happened for a reason; wasn’t that what fairies believed? And didn’t fairies also know that nothing was permanent? Friends came for a season and were gone the next, but that didn’t make the time any less special.
Atta just wished things were different. One day, she supposed, that feeling would fade like the colour on spring leaves.
“Thank you Wendy. For everything. I… am so glad we met, really, truly. I’m sure we’ll be friends for a long time.”

JARED
I really need to get into the habit of doing this more often. Dr. Daman keeps asking how this is going, but I rarely have anything to tell her that she seems to want to hear. She really wants me to do this regularly, but sitting at my desk with a sore back didn't sound too appealing, especially if I didn't have to. Even though my back is feeling a bit better after the snipe hunt tournament incident, I'm actually recording this from a bed and breakfast. And I'm tired. Not even a vacation, it's more of a work trip. Not terribly much has happened since my last update. Darius's birthday was recently. He had a little get-together with some friends and he even invited me along, which was really nice. I made sure to get there a little early especially since it was a day off of work for me. We met up at Waytooth, a restaurant that his dads and him frequent often. I got there and just sat outside for a bit fiddling on my phone, then Darius showed up. He was so excited for the party, I could tell. He smiled the second we made eye contact. He jogged over to me and we talked for a bit. The weather is still pretty nice, it's finally starting to get chillier, which is actually nicer, I prefer the layers. So we sat outside and enjoyed the weather as we talked until his other friends showed up. They were all nice, but I kind of stuck by Darius most of the day since he was the only one that I really knew.
After lunch, we all went to a drive-in theater that they've got set up here in town, which is mostly just a projector and a large painted brick wall, but it was still a nice time. His friends all sat in different cars as we watched the movie, but Darius and I sat in the bed of his truck and ate snacks that he had packed. Darius is a really good cook. He's learning a lot of cool stuff from that class he's taking. I gave him a little gift, of course. Well, two things. I got him a new wrench set since he'd been saying that he needed a new one, his old one's been a bit worn down for a while. Uh, gifts to give him in front of his friends, since he really plays up the whole inheriting the family farm shtick around them. But we, when we were in his truck, just the two of us, I gave him his second gift. He said he had really gotten into cross stitching recently and he seemed a little embarrassed about it. But I wanted him to know that I thought that was interesting, so I got him a little pack of stitching patterns and some thread organizers. I wasn't sure what kind of patterns he'd like, so I just got him a couple of different kinds. He was quiet for a few moments after he opened that gift and I kind of panicked for a moment honestly. But he then gave me a really big smile and put his hand on my shoulder. He gave me a really soft thank you and I told him it was my pleasure, as long as he made me something. It was an obvious joke, at least I hoped it was obvious. But he asked what I'd want. I told him I like birds. Birds have so much freedom to just fly around and always sing such pretty songs. Besides geese, I don't like geese. He asked me if I had any favorites. I said I like blue jays. Major assholes, but beautiful. He laughed and he said he'd give it his best shot, but I told him that I’d hang up anything he made me. And that was about it. We barely watched the movie, we spent most of the time quietly talking actually.
What else have I done? Well, Dr. Castillo and I went and investigated the energy signatures from the cornfields after Todd told us to do so and you know what we found? Corn. That's it. Oh, and more corn! No energy spikes, no signs of tomfoolery of the natural or supernatural kind, nothing. It was almost strange how untouched by supernatural energies it seemed. We investigated during the day and at night. No changes. So we've been keeping tabs on the fields but nothing that's been too notable has happened when we're out there. We've been passing a lot of our time in the labs reorganizing files going over the energy spikes that have been recorded and theorizing what we could possibly be dealing with there. But until we can further examine it, there is not much we can do. Ever since they replaced my old lab partner my workload has been much lighter. I actually prefer to be busy than bored, and I think Dr. Castillo isn't used to having idle hands either. They only ever give me small menial tasks and it's becoming more annoying than anything else. But I did recently see my old lab partner, Dr. Lomax in the hall this morning. I've seen them in passing a few times but we haven't been able to catch up much since the sudden change. Dr. Lomax also has no idea why they got suddenly switched to a different lab. Seems that none of us know why the change was made. All Todd said was “just had to rearrange some staff, don't worry about it!”
Speaking of, before I left work today, I got another email from Todd. Typically his emails are him asking us to do something and then him talking himself up for multiple paragraphs and making it seem like it should be a privilege to do what he's asking you to do. But this email was him actually giving me lodging information for the local inn, and explaining that I had to pack up a bag and go. They apparently planned to do renovations or something on my house due to a concern of faulty plumbing. I'd mentioned to Dr. Daman about the less-than-stellar heating system when I wanted to take a bath or do dishes, but I didn't expect anyone to actually do anything about it. But a night without weird tapping on my door sounded nice, and even though I replied to the email basically saying “oh no, you really don't have to, I can live with it”, Todd insisted. I could just see his smug smile on the other side of the screen. He'll subtly hold it over my head for later, but the rule of one denial for good polite measure then acceptance of an offer had been met and I was off home to pack a bag. And here I am now.
The Chronicle Inn bed and breakfast is run by an older married couple, Ester and Laura. I'd met them a few times before my stay here but I hadn't spent much time with them. This place is mostly a restaurant and homemade goods store rather than an inn, considering we don't get many outsiders who stay here any longer than to grab a bite to eat and get gas. But for times like these it's nice to have an inn available. Even if it's only a few rooms, it's much better than staying at the facilities that the enclosure has on site. Work would have likely put me into a temporary on-site lodging space if the inn wasn't available. To be honest I'm surprised they actually put me in the end instead of just tossing me into some temp lodging room for a night. Maybe they remembered how much I hate that place. It's nearly impossible to sleep with the buzzing lights and the beds really aren't made for comfort and the bathrooms are all so claustrophobic. I swear, they make that place as uncomfortable as possible so people want to leave. That, or they just skimped on the prices for a comfortable setup to focus the money elsewhere at the Enclosure. I'd believe that. Though maybe they booked me at this place to have me investigate something while I'm here. Can't even enjoy this nice little one-night getaway, huh? They expect me to work? Do they plan to pay me for looking into things overnight? Probably not, not like they ever pay me for the full work I do anyways.
The room I’m in is kinda known for weird happenings. The whole town knows but there's not a huge fuss over it. No one's died from it, so why be too concerned? Ester warned me about these weird happenings while I was checking in. There's word of a spirit that haunts the upper floor of the building. Been here for as long as anyone can recall. She explained it all to me with a smile and a jovial tone, so she doesn't seem concerned. After the literal run-in with the deer a few weeks ago, I really just wanted some rest. Her wife Laura told me that they serve breakfast at 7 am but they'll be at the desk to take my key as early as 6. Thankfully tomorrow my shift starts at 8 instead of the usual 6 so I might be able to actually get some real food in me before work.
Didn't take me too long to get up here and settled in. I decided to just relax today instead of going out into town. So I did some reading in bed. Not that I could really focus much, the bed here is nice and cozy, but there's definitely a vibe about it. The room, not the bed. The rest of the inn is very homey, lived in, but in a good way. But the second I got to the top of the stairs it was like the air got barely but still noticeably cooler. When I came into the room I saw a little baggie of homemade beef jerky that Ester made and gave me. She's known around town for her jerkies and her woodwork. She's always so hands-on with everything she makes, whether it's snacks or a new set of chairs. She may have actually made the chair I'm sitting in right now, actually. I sat outside for a bit. There's a nice balcony that looks over some gardens and in the far distance I can see the vast fields. The evening felt so nice and I could see the little lightning bugs flying around as I got darker. I've always liked watching their dances. I often watch kids running around catching them in jars and then letting them all go just minutes later, but I prefer to watch them do their own thing out in nature. I watched the stars and the flicking lights of the lightning bugs for a bit, sipped on some sweet tea that Laura had brewed and offered me, ate some of the jerky that Ester made, and relaxed. I let my mind wander to wherever it went off to which as usual was all over the place. But no tapping on the doors, no weird deer staring at me, it was nice. But I keep feeling like something, or someone, is watching me. I feel that pretty often but this is different. It feels closer, if that makes sense. Like right now I'm sitting in a plush chair by the window in the room looking over the nice herb garden out back. The stars are still twinkling, the wind is just slightly blowing, and I've been able to crack the window open for some breeze. But I feel like something is watching me from the doorway. I swear to gods if I turn around and someone is standing there... (deep inhale) nope, nothing.
When Ester was telling me about what I could possibly expect, she said that a spirit had been wandering around in the room I'm staying in. Sometimes the spirit watches people. Sometimes the spirit just walks around and ignores the tenants. Must depend on her mood. But apparently something about the blue lamp by the bedside table really draws her out. Considering my line of work, and that my boss sent me here, I'm obviously going to turn on the light. Even if she's not rumored to be particularly dangerous, if they're just wanting to keep me busy then I could see Todd throwing me here to look into it a bit more. Okay. Hold on, give me a sec, let me see what happens. [lamp clicks on] It's a pretty light. I don't think I've seen a light this shade of blue outside of some of the lights they put up around town in the winter. It's nice. Oh, uh... hello? I don't know if she can hear me but I do see someone standing by the door, on the other side of the room, and um, [sniffs] tobacco?
THE BLUE LADY
I can hear you just fine.
JARED
[startled] Ah! Sorry about that. how are you?
THE BLUE LADY
Why do you ask?
JARED
Manners, I guess? Should I ask- who are you?
THE BLUE LADY
I don't think it really matters now. Besides, it's better I ask who you are.
JARED
Oh, uh, Dr. Jared Hel. I'm a scientist with the Enclosure on the edge of town. I…
THE BLUE LADY
WHO you are, not what you are. I know what you are.
JARED
...What I am is a person who would like to get some rest.
THE BLUE LADY
No, what you are is different. At least different from what I remember.
JARED
From what you remember? Have we met before?
THE BLUE LADY
Not exactly. “Met” isn't the word I would use. But we've interacted.
JARED
How so..?
THE BLUE LADY
I've watched you from afar, I've seen what you do. I guess our paths have more indirectly crossed.
JARED
I've never studied you before. You're not exactly the kind of thing that the enclosure typically sends me to study.
THE BLUE LADY
Then why are you here?
JARED
Well, work decided to fix the plumbing in my house so they put me up here. To get some rest.
THE BLUE LADY
And yet you're not here to study me?
JARED
Well that's actually unclear, I guess. I mean, if they're going to book me in the most haunted room at an inn, I guess they're having me investigate. Or Todd's just messing with me. That seems like something he'd pull.
THE BLUE LADY
Messing with you? [scoffs] When did you start putting up with the antics of people like that?
JARED
Okay, I'm gonna be upfront- if we met more than two years ago I have zero memory of any of that time. So this vague, cryptic talk is going to get you nowhere.
THE BLUE LADY
What are you doing with that thing?
JARED
[rustling sound] This it's an audio journal. It takes less focus and energy than writing. Are you just gonna keep staring at me or..?
THE BLUE LADY
People don't usually understand me this well for full conversations, so it has been quite a while. It isn't as if Ester and Laura can clearly understand me, even if they have tried.
JARED
How long have you been here?
THE BLUE LADY
Longer than I can remember. The rumor is that I've been here since the establishment of this town, whenever that may have been.
JARED
And when did we meet? I mean interact indirectly.
THE BLUE LADY
For the first time? It was many, many years ago. But again, you've certainly changed.
JARED
But again, I don't remember. You keep saying that and, [winces in pain] oh god my head!
THE BLUE LADY
We won't be getting very far right now.
JARED
No wait wait wait no hold on hold on.... and she's gone. [slams fist on table] Damn it! Why won't anyone just tell me anything outright? Oh my head... it's always like this. They disappear for a while and then come back so suddenly. Oh I hate this flesh prison! I'm done recording for now I need to try and nurse this headache now and recover from whatever the hell… oh it seems she left a little gift. Some blue ribbon? It's maybe four or five inches long, a little frayed at the ends. It's the same color as the lamp. There's something written on it. The handwriting's a bit hard to read but it looks like “you need to remember”. Remember what? How am I supposed to remember if no one ever tells me anything? Everyone always pushes me to try and remember but there's nothing to remember if they're making me grasp at thin air! They say they support me, they say they want to help, but what do they do to help, huh? All of this performative support is getting me nowhere. [facing away from recorder] And how is this ribbon supposed to help? You couldn't have given me something a little less vague? [groans] Why is everyone always so damn vague? Are they scared to just say something concrete? Why can't anyone ever give me a straight answer! No, it's fine. It's fine. I'm just… I'm going to go to bed. Right. I'm going to get some sleep. No tapping, no knocking, just sleep. I'm gonna go turn off the lamp and get some rest. Right. Ugh. Whatever. This is Dr. Jared Hel, signing off, I guess.

What shows are you into? >> The shows that I’m watching right now are The Strain, Hannibal (rewatch), The X-Files (rewatch), and I have M.A.S.H. as my current “mealtime entertainment” show. I think I’ve given up on Grey’s Anatomy, at least for the time being, because I’ve gotten more than a little weary of the romance stuff. (You can kind of see where my mind is at right now considering what I am currently watching, lmao... not to mention I was previously watching Mindhunter and The Act...) Also, Derek Shepherd just died and I really don’t feel like wading through a bunch of grief-related subplots. What’s your claim to fame? >> I have no idea. Are you usually early or late? >> I’m more likely to be too early than too late. How often do you people watch? >> As often as I’m in a place where people-watching is actually entertaining. What do you hope never changes? >> I don’t think I have any business hoping for anything to stay exactly the same forever.
What’s your dream car? >> --- What songs have you completely memorized? >> I have so many songs memorised. What job would you be terrible at? >> What job wouldn’t I be terrible at in some way... What skill would you like to master? >> There aren’t any I’m really into the idea of mastering right now. What are you absolutely determined to do? >> Continue to be truer to myself and the kind of life I want to live. What would you rate 10 / 10? >> I don’t know. Where would you rather be from? >> ??? What’s your favorite drink? >> Jasmine green tea with honey. What quirks do you have? >> Oh, who knows. How often do you play sports? >> I don’t. What website do you visit most often? >> tumblr, most likely. What movie title best describes your life? >> I can’t even begin to imagine what movie title would come close to describing my life. Or any life. What age do you want to live to? >> It’s not quantity of life that I’m into so much as quality of life. Of course I’d like to live through middle age and see what it’d be like to be proper old, but if that comes with a slew of health conditions and infirmities then I’m not too sure about that. But-- who knows, actually. Maybe I’ll still carry on rather well even with all of that. Maybe when it comes down to it, it wouldn’t be as bad as I think. All in all, I don’t think that it’s rational for me to try and predict how I’d feel about being a certain age or living to a certain age, and there’s no real point in thinking about it either. I’ll live until I die, and that’s that. What takes up too much of your time? >> I don’t think anything takes up too much of my time. What do you wish you knew more about? >> It’s more that I wish I had the drive to focus on specific things long enough to become an expert in them. But I have the mind of a dilettante, not a specialist. How different was your life one year ago? >> Not very. What’s the best single day on the calendar? >> I have no idea. What are some things you’ve had to unlearn? >> Self-punishment, defense mechanisms, certain thought patterns and behaviours that I adopted as a homeless person in a metropolis, that sort of thing. What’s your favorite genre of book or movie? >> I don’t have a specific one. I do seem to gravitate towards psychological thrillers and space epics when it comes to movies, though. What’s the farthest you’ve ever been from home? >> --- What TV channel doesn’t exist but really should? >> We really don’t need more TV channels. Where is the most interesting place you’ve been? >> I have no idea. There’s something interesting about almost everywhere I’ve been. What fad or trend do you hope comes back? >> --- What’s the best way to start the day? >> I like to start mine with some fun music. What kind of art do you enjoy most? >> I’m not sure. What would your perfect room look like? >> A little bigger than this one, and maybe with a bigger window...? I don’t believe in a “perfect” anything, I’m just happy to have a room of my own that is comfortable and clean. What fictional place would you most like to go? >> I have no idea. What have you only recently formed an opinion about? >> I don’t know. What is the most heartwarming thing you’ve ever seen? >> *shrug* What’s something you like to do the old-fashioned way? >> I’m not sure. Would you rather go hang gliding or whitewater rafting? >> Hang-gliding. Who has impressed you most with what they’ve accomplished? >> I think a lot of people’s accomplishments are impressive to some degree, because life can be hard, but there’s nothing that really sticks out to me. How do you relax after a hard day of work? >> --- What TV show or movie do you refuse to watch? >> Just anything I’m not interested in, I guess. Where would you spend all your time if you could? >> I wouldn’t want to spend all my time in one place. That’s the quickest way to dissatisfaction for me. What would be your ideal way to spend the weekend? >> I don’t have an ideal way. Most weekends are fine. What’s the best way a person can spend their time? >> --- What would be the most amazing adventure to go on? >> I don’t know. There are way too many superlative questions in this survey. What pets did you have while you were growing up? >> I had dogs. What job do you think you’d be really good at? >> I’m not sure. I think I would make a good bartender skill-wise, but bars are noisy and hectic and not altogether tidy places, so that’d be a problem. I think that’s the thing with jobs, for me -- it’s not necessarily the job itself that I would be awful at dealing with, but the environment and social elements. What’s the most interesting piece of art you’ve seen? >> I couldn’t say. Where is the most relaxing place you’ve ever been? >> *sigh*... What are you most likely to become famous for? >> I don’t want to be famous for anything. What’s worth spending more on to get the best? >> Anything you end up using at least weekly, unless it’s meant to be replaced often. What age do you wish you could permanently be? >> No thanks. What is special about the place you grew up? >> I don’t know what’s special about it. What do you consider to be your best find? >> --- When was the last time you climbed a tree? >> I have never really climbed a tree. What city would you most like to live in? >> I actually don’t know at this time. It’ll probably be a couple of years at least before I start doing any real research on that possibility. What is the luckiest thing that has happened to you? >> I couldn’t say. I have had a lot of lucky things happen to me. What’s the best thing that happened to you last week? >> Er. What’s your favorite piece of clothing you own / owned? >> I don’t know. What is the most annoying question that people ask you? >> --- What is the most impressive thing you know how to do? >> --- What was the best book or series that you’ve ever read? >> --- What is the most annoying habit that other people have? >> --- What are you looking forward to in the coming months? >> The NOLA trip. I know I’m ‘supposed’ to say “the wedding”, but that’s not really the exciting part for me, that’s the stressful part. Maybe it won’t feel like that when it actually happens, but it does now, so. What are some small things that make your day better? >> --- What one thing do you really want but can’t afford? >> --- What are you interested in that most people haven’t heard of? >> --- Why did you decide to do the work you are doing now? >> --- What state or country do you never want to go back to? >> --- What are you most looking forward to in the next 10 years? >> I don’t look ahead that far. What game or movie universe would you most like to live in? >> --- If you suddenly became a master at woodworking, what would you make? >> ... I’m not interested in woodworking, though, so that’d be a useless thing to grant me. At least grant me a skill I want to use. What amazing thing did you do that no one was around to see? >> Yesterday I took a shot at a garbage can from about 6 feet away and I made it. It was cool. What hobby would you get into if time and money weren’t an issue? >> --- If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time? >> --- When people come to you for help, what do they usually want help with? >> --- Where do you usually go when you when you have time off? >> --- What question would you most like to know the answer to? >> --- What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives? >> I don’t think everyone should do anything. What’s something you’ve been meaning to try but just haven’t gotten around to? >> Whatever it is, I’ve forgotten it now. What gets you fired up? >> I don’t know. Not much. What risks are worth taking? >> For me, I have no idea. What do you take for granted? >> I eventually take everything for granted because I can’t possibly maintain a constant attitude of gratitude 24/7/365. What do you have doubts about? >> Various ultimately-unimportant things. What fact are you resigned to? >> The fact that I just might not be a passionate person, and while that means I am certainly missing out on things that I can’t feel or experience, there’s no point in fuckin navelgazing about it. There are benefits to my experience, too -- just because they’re not talked about doesn’t mean they don’t exist. What book impacted you the most? >> *shrug* What’s the best thing about you? >> --- What are you addicted to? >> Nothing. When do you feel truly “alive”? >> I always feel alive. How else am I supposed to feel? Who inspires you to be better? >> No one. What makes a good life? >> *shrug* I know my life is good, and that’s all. If all jobs had the same pay and hours, what job would you like to have? >> The pay and hours aren’t the thing that needs to change for me to want a job... What irrational fear do you have? >> None. What would be your spirit animal? >> I don’t know. Have you ever saved someone’s life? >> Highly doubtful. What’s the hardest lesson you’ve learned? >> *shrug* What’s something you are self-conscious about? >> I’m very conscious of my general appearance because I’ve been made to be. What is one of your favorite smells? >> I don’t know, uh... ginger? That’s nice. What do you like most about your family? >> --- What is the “holy grail” of your life? >> --- Have you ever given to any charities? >> No. What’s the last adventure you went on? >> Well, we went to the zoo yesterday. That was kind of an adventure. What are three interesting facts about you? >> I can’t be bothered to think of one, let alone three. What was the best compliment you’ve received? >> --- What chance encounter changed your life forever? >> --- What do you want your epitaph to be? >> I don’t really care. It’s not my business anyway, I’ll be dead. What do you want to be remembered for? >> --- What is something you will NEVER do again? >> I can’t say. What are you most likely very wrong about? >> If I know I’m probably very wrong about something, why would I still be thinking it? What stereotype do you completely live up to? >> I don’t know, I never thought about it. What dumb accomplishment are you most proud of? >> If I’m proud of it, how the fuck is it dumb... What was the most memorable gift you’ve received? >> --- What is the biggest lesson you never learned? >> That... makes no sense... What’s the most immature thing that you do? >> There’s probably something, but I can’t think of anything right now. Who is / was your most interesting friend? >> --- What do people think is weird about you? >> I don’t know, man. What chapters would you separate your autobiography into? >> I don’t... know........ What do you hope your last words will be? >> Why would that even matter to me? By that point, my life -- and the entire concept of things “mattering” -- is over. What do you spend the most time thinking about? >> I’m not sure. Various things about characters, labyrinthine discussions that Can Calah and I have throughout the day, stuff like that, I guess. What is something you can never seem to finish? >> I don’t know. What mistake do you keep making again and again? >> I haven’t noticed any lately. What’s the best thing you got from your parents? >> --- What is the strangest thing you have come across? >> --- What would a mirror opposite of yourself be like? >> I can’t possibly have a mirror opposite. That would imply that I’m some kind of stock character who only has a handful of personality traits that do not ever conflict with each other. What’s the best and worst thing about getting older? >> For me, the best thing has been just... learning what not to give a fuck about. I have a markedly low number of fucks to give as it is, and I was always giving them away freely to the wrongest things and people. No wonder I was always stressed out. I don’t think there’s a worst thing. Like, yeah, my body is less tolerant of things like staying up all night and doing drugs, but those are definitely things I don’t need to be doing anymore anyway, so... still a benefit? What would be the scariest monster you could imagine? >> I can’t imagine one. What is something you are certain you’ll never experience? >> Whatever that romantic love thing is that everyone’s always on about. If it hasn’t happened by now, I fail to see what would make the future so drastically different that it’ll suddenly happen then. What challenging thing are you working through these days? >> I don’t know. I’m taking a break from constantly pushing myself to do things “better” or “more normal”, from that whole “self-improvement” grind that puts books on the bestseller list and makes “gurus” out of regular-ass people who are just good at exploiting insecurities, so I’m not really “working through” anything right now. And honestly, I’m finding I have a lot fewer “problems” than I thought I did, and I’m happier with myself than I thought I was. What’s one responsibility you really wish you didn’t have? >> --- What do you wish your brain was better at doing? >> I’m not sure. I complain about my brain, but honestly, it’s doing pretty damn well with the fucked-up toolkit it was given. I’m pretty proud of it, all told. If your childhood had a smell, what would it be? >> I don’t know, I don’t associate any particular smells with childhood. In your group of friends, what role do you play? >> I don’t know, I don’t have an actual group. Which of your scars has the best story behind it? >> None of them really have good stories. What have you created that you are most proud of? >> Various characters and fiction. What were some of the turning points in your life? >> I don’t think I can really say. I’m not sure I believe in “turning points” as is, either. That suggests there are certain moments where Everything Changes and Suddenly I Saw the Light and so on. Whereas, it rarely actually happens like that. Personal change happens behind the scenes, where I can’t witness it, and so slowly that it looks like nothing’s moving at all, until suddenly I look back over several years and go, “hunh. shit is different.” What bends your mind every time you think about it? >> Consciousness. What is something that your friends would consider “so you”? >> Being comically thirsty for villains and various eldritch beings. What’s something horrible that everyone should try at least once? >> --- If you had a personal flag, what would be on it? >> I’d like a personal Flagg, actually. *wheeze* As the only human left on Earth, what would you do? >> I don’t know. I’d require more information -- like what happened to everyone else, for example, and why it didn’t happen to me. What stat for your life would you most like to see? >> Meh. What did you think you would grow out of but haven’t? >> Surveys, definitely, lmao. What are three of the most significant numbers in your life? >> 9, 19, and 8. What’s the best and worst piece of advice you’ve ever received? >> --- What song or artist do you like but rarely admit to liking? >> I will never deny an artist or song I love. What annoys you most about the in-groups you are a part of? >> I don’t even know what in-groups I’m part of. I feel like I’m too contrarian for that. What small gesture from a stranger made a big impact on you? >> --- What are some of your personal “rules” that you never break? >> I don’t think I could have unbreakable rules. I’m more inclined to adaptation than to rigidity. If your life was a book, what would its title be? >> --- Among your friends or family, what are you famous for? >> --- What’s the title of the current chapter of your life? >> --- What do you strongly suspect but have no proof of? >> I can’t think of anything. What do you regret not doing or starting when you were younger? >> Nothing. As you get older, what are you becoming more and more afraid of? >> I don’t think anything like that exists for me. Yet, anyway. In what situation or place would you feel the most out of place in? >> I don’t know. Maybe if you plunked me down right in the middle of the Met Gala or something, lol. What personality trait do you value most and which do you dislike the most? >> Oh, I don’t know. What would you do if you knew you were going to die in one hour? >> I wouldn’t do anything, I guess. What am I possibly going to do in an hour that would make any difference? Maybe I’d just lay down, put on some music, and wait as patiently as I could. What are some of the events in your life that made you who you are? >> Are there any events in my life that didn’t? If life is a game, like some people say, what are some of the rules? >> I don’t know, ask r/outside There are two types of people in this world. What are the two types? >> I’d put a meme here but I’m too lazy What lifestyle change have you been meaning to make for a while now? >> --- What question can you ask to find out the most about a person? >> How would I know? What can you not get right, no matter how many times you try? >> *shrug* When people look at you, what do you think they see / think? >> I really can’t even imagine. People have assumed or falsely interpreted things about me that have caught me completely off guard, so I guess anything goes. If you had to change your name, what would you change it to? >> I am done changing my name, lmao. (Legally, at least.) What’s the dumbest thing you’ve done that actually turned out pretty well? >> I don’t even know. Most of the dumb things I’ve done have turned out well eventually, seeing as I’m still here and have all my limbs and eyes and such-not.

Infinity’s Descendants-Becoming La Reine de La Mort
“Warm welcomes”
Lasko wasted no time before throwing me into the thick of things. I had hardly been able to take in the beauty of the decor, I hadn’t even been shown my living quarters and he was already about to brief us on our first assignment. Well, my first assignment at least. The one thing that had me the most puzzled was the 5 Sarcophagi placed perfectly in the center of the grand foyer that Lasko casually walked by. “Wait here, I am going to bring the others up to speed then I will call for you to enter; then all of you will be briefed” Lasko straightened up his coat and entered he room.
“Welcome back sir, how was the hearing” asked a deep male voice. “Have you any assignments for us?” Asked another. “The hearing went extremely well and yes, I do have an assignment” replied Lasko. « C’est bon, what is it? » the deep voice asked excitingly. “Slow down Adonis, you will be briefed on all that momentarily. In short, we were given a search and extract mission” I heard Lasko say. I wonder what we will be searching for? “Given the magnitude of the situation the Camorra felt it necessary to have a higher level of response then usual” I stepped a little closer to the door so I could hear the conversation more clearly.
“Why us? The camorra hardly ever gives us assignments such as these” the other male spoke. “Bonne question, Griffith. They chose us because we have a new asset” Well at least I know the names of my new comrades, Adonis and Griffith. I focused back on the conversation. “New Asset?” Asked Adonis. “Yes, one that will enable us to be able to handle situations such as this one” Lasko replied proudly. “What is this new asset?” asked Griffith. “Not what but who” I will acknowledge that my curiosity got the best of me. Even with a heightened sense of hearing my ear was still all but pressed against the door. “You can come in darling” said Lasko.
The room was breathtaking, the chandeliers looked like they belonged in Versailles. My eyes had barely began taking in the custom woodworking on the ceilings when Lasko began the briefing.
As he spoke I took a look at three other men in the room. Two of the three were glaring at me and the other was completely focused on Lasko. “Two members of the Corsini Family have been colluding with the Duchessa of San Marino. If you remember correctly her husband, the Duca of San Marino was assassinated by Ravi of the Cavalieri Bianchi a few years ago. They have been sharing intimate details about each of our covens. The Camorra is unsure how much information the enemy has obtained. Your mission is to travel to her estate, find the traitors and extract every bit of information you can from the mortals by any means necessary.” Lasko placed his hands behind his back and began to pace around the table. “Her estate is essentially a fortress. It is customarily monitored by local law enforcement, however, recently there has been a large influx of military personnel guarding it which leads the Camorra to believe that the traitors are present there now” I thought I would be afraid when I learned what it was that I would be doing but this actually did not seem too daunting. I was excited to see what skills the others had. Unfortunately, I don’t think the others felt the same.
“Merde Lasko! Êtes-vous sérieux?” Griffith said after sizing me up. “Please tell me we do not have to take a newborn on a mission of this caliber!” added Adonis. “Since the two of you have so much contempt Azazelle is going to take point” They both glanced at each other and geared up to protest but Lasko quickly put an end to that. “Silence” he said coldly. “If you have took objection to her joining us then you are going to love the fact that she will be training you and the rest of our new recruits from now on” Both of their faces fell. “Now show a proper welcome to the newest member of the House of Léon and trainer of the Shadow Killers.”
Shadow killers?? They must not stay in the shadows too well for there to only be three of them left. Perhaps not the most fitting name for them, well us….Adonis and Griffith both bowed begrudgingly then left the room with haste. Lasko followed almost immediately after. The third member of the Shadow Killers was sitting with one leg crossed on the couch. “You will have to forgive them. They don’t respond to change well but they will come around” he said as he approached me. He wasn’t scowling or regarding me with disdain and disgust. He had a kind face and a welcoming demeanor. “Well that’s nice to know” I replied sarcastically. Since he seemed so friendly I figured I would go ahead and introduce myself. Not to mention that we would be working together for who knows long. I stepped towards him “My name is Azazelle, pleasure meeting you” “Malachi” he replied shaking the hand I had extended.
“If you’d like I can give you a tour of the place? I can show you our training facilities and your quarters of course. As well as anything else you think you may like to see” he smiled. “Thank you Malachi. I’d love that”
I followed him out of the war room, down a short hallway and through a large set of double doors. “I will show you the rooms you will frequent the most on the way to your living quarters” The drapes covered each and every window of the hallway yet the candlelight bounced beautifully off the wood and various fabrics.
“This is the throne room. Adonis and Griffith join Lasko here as protection when we have visitors from the other covens and mortal leaders. Given your position it would be fitting for you to join them as well” He stood patiently in the center of the room while I walked around. There was gold everywhere. On the walls on the furniture it appeared to even be sewn into cushion of the throne itself. “Finest of silk. Imported from Lyon” he said as I felt the blue fabric draped behind the throne.
“It’s a lovely room” I said walking back towards him. He nodded in agreement and proceeded out. As Malachi walked ahead I took the opportunity to glance out of one of the windows in the hallway; the grounds looked endless. Maybe this wouldn’t be too bad after all?
“This is one of our many entertainment rooms, Molière himself has written at least two playwrights here” he said proudly. “Thee Molière?...Ici?” I could not believe it. Molière was only the the most famous writers in all of France. “Oui” he smiled. “Impossible. Il est mort” I replied, I couldn’t take my eyes off of the beautiful woodworking on each of these chairs. Magnificently carved acanthus leaves ran up each side of the chair and formed into a stunning Fluer-de-lis covered with several small diamonds. “To mortals he is dead. We know different. Molière is like you and I” He flashed his fangs as he smiled. “Vraiment?!? Unbelievable, I simply cannot believe it! Molière…at a coven?” The thought was quite comical. “We are not beasts Azazelle. We too enjoy entertainment, in all of its various forms. In fact, some of his plays are based off of events that took place in our covens” Malachi started up the steps towards the door.
“Vous plaisantez!! You must tell me which ones” I ran my fingers across the diamonds of the Fluer-de-lis once more and joined him on the steps. “There will be plenty of time for that. Let us continue on”.
We left the theatre and continued on. As we passed others in the house Malachi took the time to introduce me to most of them. All but a few seemed nice, those that didn’t seemed either taken aback from the way I was introduced to them or confused about who I was. “Ah, Romulus. I would like for you to meet Azazelle. She is our newest death dealer and our new trainer” The gentleman Malachi was speaking to approached us.
“Mon Dieu, is every one in this house going to be this handsome?” I thought I had asked that question in my head but apparently I hadn’t because both Malachi and Romulus stifled laughs. “Fret not Mademoiselle, Malachi is the only truly handsome one here in Léon. The rest of us are swine compared to him” Romulus laughed but Malachi looked less than pleased. “Enchanté Azazelle. My name is Romulus. Perhaps you and I could feed sometime?” I blushed at his proposition. “I doubt I will have time. From what I am told we are getting right to work with everything” I replied. “Well should you ever find the time you know where to find me Mademoiselle” he kissed my hand and held my gaze. “Where to next?” I asked after clearing my throat and removing my hand from Romulus’. “Next, I will show you to the wing of the house with our sleeping quarters” replied Malachi. “Very well then, shall we proceed?” I asked, desperate to get away from Romulus. I had blushed enough.
I do not know what I expected to see when Malachi showed me to our quarters but this was NOT it. However, I should have known better because the opulence of the sleeping chambers matched that of the entire house.
“These are my chambers” He waived his hand across the span of the room. It was neat and tidy. Seemed to suit him well very. “Beautiful” I giggled. “What? Is something wrong?” He couldn’t help but giggle with me. “No not at all. I just always found it a bit comical that vampires had sleeping quarters at all considering we have no need to sleep” He smiled and gave an agreeing shake of his head. “Very true but there are many other things we can use that bed for” he replied. I laughed again this time much harder. His eyes widened and his cheeks turned as red as the sheets on his bed. “Not we as in you and I but we as in….vampires” He was looking everywhere but at me. “You and I are going to get along just fine” I said placing a comforting hand on his shoulder.
The sun was peaking from behind one of the drapes in the hallway and you would have thought that Malachi had seen a ghost. “What is it?” I asked. “Your chambers are just past that beam of light but we will have to get a noble to adjust the drapes in order for us to pass.” “Pourquoi?” I asked. “This is the only way to get to our chambers” I am uncertain that I should tell him that that will not be necessary. “Noble?” I decided to ask. “Yes?” He looked as though he didn’t understand why I was questioning that. “Forgive me, perhaps I am confused. Do we need permission to touch the drapes?” I could see that it was going to take me a while to get used to how things functioned around here. “No, we do not need permission-“ Since did not need permission Idecided to test Lasko’s theory about my sensitivity to sunlight or lack there of. “No! Azazelle wait you musn’t!” he whisper yelled as I walked directly into the light. It did not burn me as it did back in Giovanni-Montoire. It stung mildly but there was no visibly damage to my skin. I pulled the drape all the way closed. Malachi said nothing but I could see his mind racing.
He walked past me silently and entered the next room. “These are your chambers” My mouth fell. “I did not know who it was that was coming but I knew that the person was important because of the chambers that Lasko assigned. In light of what just happened in the hallway I understand even more now. How is it that you can do that?” He asked. “Malachi,I truthfully do not know”
“The last place I will show you is our training wing. There are only certain people who are allowed in this building. No humans at any time are allowed inside and very few vampires are allowed” he said as we descended a spiral staircase. “Why is that?” I asked. “Initially Lasko didn’t want our training methodologies and practices to be discovered but eventually he became too embarrassed of us to have people see his death dealers.” I sensed a bit of resentment in his tone but decided to leave my questions about the demise of the Shadow Killers for another day.”How is that we are going to get there? It is still daylight outside” The corridor we were walking in was completely empty. “This passage is how we gain entry during the day” Before Iknewit we were at a wooden door with a steel lock.
To our surprise Lasko and the other were inside when Malachi opened the door but they hadn’t yet noticed that we had entered, or at least it seemed they hand’t.
“Lasko sir I strongly urge you to reconsider her going on this mission. Let us handle it we are more than capable” said Griffith. Lasko listened to his death dealers patiently as they spoke to him. “What you are neglecting to acknowledge is that she is the only reason we were given this assignment in the first place” Adonis scoffed and quickly corrected his error. “Pardon, I meant no disrespect sir”
“Since the two of you are so adamant that Azazelle here” his mentioning me shocked me. He turned to Malachi and I and motioned for us to come closer. When we did he continued. “As I was stating, since Adonis and Griffith believe that you are incapable of completing this task the two of them are going to stay here. Malachi...” “Yes sir?” He replied immediately. “You will accompany Azazelle” Malachi looked at me with wide eyes then back at Lasko. He approached us and placed a hand on each of our shoulders. “The two of you will leave tonight. You both know my expectations as well as the camorra’s. Do not disappoint. Adonis. Griffith. Follow me”
This was quite an interesting end to my tour with Malachi. I made my way back to my chambers to finally relax. I was actually excited to go on this mission now and the day was dredging on so I plopped down on my bed. Now alone in my room my thoughts began to wander aimlessly. What is celeste up to? Are her and Cassius happy? Where is Jean-Laurent? Does he miss me as much as I miss him? What the hell are those sarcophagi for? Do they actually sleep in those?
Knock.Knock.Knock
I must say I was nervous that the person at my door was going to be Romulus. “You may enter” I called out. “Do you care if I join you?” I let out a sigh of relief. The voice was Malachi’s. “Not at all, please make yourself comfortable” He sat on the banister at the bottom of my bed. “Are you alright?” I asked. He was tense and rigid. “I must confess I am anxious about tonight” he rubbed the back of his neck and exhaled deeply. “Is this your first assignment?” I asked. “I have been on one other. Some of our members were killed. Myself and one other were the only two to escape” I was surprised by how freely he expressed things to me. The only vampires I had been in contact with were very tight lip about almost everything. “Who is the other? Adonis or Griffith?” “Neither of them, He is dead now too” he said simply. “Comment est-il décédé?” I moved to the edge of my bed, closer to Malachi. I knew this was about to be interesting. “He had lost a tremendous amount of blood. Naturally, I caught him someone to feed on. Well, he couldn’t control his thirst and he consumed the last of the blood. It killed him instantly there was nothing I could do” his eyes glassed over like he was reliving the event “Mon dieu that’s unfortunate” Part of me sympathized with him fore I too have been in need of so much blood that I feared I would not be able to control myself. “Oui…may I lay down? I would prefer to not be alone” “Trying to put the bed to use already I see?” I jested. Shy Malachi was back. He covered his faced and laughed. It was adorable. “I am only giving you a hard time. Come. Tell me more about yourself” I patted the bed beside me and plopped back down.

Why are there so many speaker training programs? And how do I pick the right one?
By Douglas Vermeeren 10X Your Speaking Business
It seems that lately there are a gazillion and one people popping out of the woodwork claiming to be able to teach you how to build you speaking business. Some of these programs are good, some are terrible and a few are just down right crap. I’m being honest here. Just because someone is claiming to help you build a coveted career in the speaking industry does not me that they can help you.
Like everything else in life BUYER BEWARE!
Having taught the skills of speaking and the business of speaking long before most of these hucksters arrived on the scene I want to share a few things you should look for before you give away any hard earned cash. Before I share what to look for let me tell you why there are so many that have recently shown up…. ready for it… cash.
Teaching people who want to be speakers, desperate to build a business in the speaking career appears to be a relatively easy way for some speakers with minimal experience to make a quick buck. Most of the so-called speaker trainers in the marketplace today are out to prey on those who simply don’t know any better.
Let’s fix that. Here are 3 things that you need to know before you hire anyone to help you with your speaking business:
There is a difference between developing platform skills and building a speaking business. Most of the people calling themselves speaker trainers today have very little ability to build a speaking business. Most of those in the marketplace today focus on platform skills. Their efforts are primarily on helping you develop a nice presentation or what is popularly known as a signature talk. There are a couple of problems with this. Signatures talks don’t work in today's marketplace.
These monologue style presentations fell out of the successful way of doing things in the mid-1990s. However because they are the model often taught in groups like the National Speaker Association, Toastmasters and a handful of other groups most people
still think they work in todays marketplace. They don’t. They worked well when Speaking bureaus ruled the industry and corporate clients where the primary source of revenue for speakers. Times have changed. People expect more of a connection and a higher
level of engagement than ever before. Audiences don’t want to be talked to. They want to be included.
While presentation skills are important to learn and there are lots of great programs that teach that. (We do to.) What is really needed before understand what to say is the business of saying it. If you get the business right the time on stage becomes productive. We believe that until speakers think of the speaking business as a speaking business it is very difficult to create lasting success. Maybe that’s why most of the speakers (or people who are trying to be speakers) are broke. A recent statistic I read said that only 1 in 450 speakers actually earn enough to be considered full time. (Kinda crazy for a group that is typically thought of as teaching strategies for personal or business success.)
As I see many of our competitors out there calling themselves speaker trainers I almost cry. most of them are broke too. Most of them have never broken 6 or 7 figures in their own businesses. They have never spoken internationally or in front of large audiences. Most of them do not know how to fill their own rooms or sell from the stage. Most don’t know how to joint venture with other speakers and do not have relationship with any top speakers in the business. They are fooling themselves.
Lesson: If you are going to find help with your speaking career get someone that understands the business and is successful themselves.
2. This one is pretty obvious.Effective speaking programs are focused on just teaching speaking and the speaking business! I am startled when I see how many “speaker trainers” teach entrepreneurship, customer service, sales, book publishing, social media AND SPEAKING. The old saying Jack of all trades master of none pretty much lets you know how effective these people will be for you.
There are many speakers who have added speaker training to their suitcase full of stuff they are trying to offer because again they see the cash. They think because they’ve spoken for a while that they are now experts on teaching others how to do. (And the funny thing is that even many well-known speakers are trying to do this too.) There are two things that always result from this warning sign regardless of where they are a big speaker or not.
1)You will get a watered down version of speaker training.
2)The training will make you a carbon copy of the presenter.
Who wants that?
If you are going to invest the money to learn a skill wouldn’t you want a teacher that is able to help you develop your gifts and enhance your natural personality and gifts. (Apparently not for some people.) Our philosophy that i believe makes us the top speaking training company in the business today is this: Find YOUR VIBE and you will find YOUR TRIBE.
I won’t mention any names but recently I was at an event in Las Vegas and I had one speaker tell me how they spent close to $50,000 to be in a certain speaker training program. I know the person she was taking the training from. This speakers training program came from a guy who teaches entrepreneurship, considers himself a top business coach and is now involved in real estate training too. Where will this stop. Needless to say this person was very disappointed because they paid for a basic course that has not helped them to become better or make any money back. NO RESULTS.
When I probed further I found that it was really because this “Speaker Training” program was very unfocused. And through out the entire process this “trainer” was trying to cross pollinate everyone in his course to buying and attending everything he could dream up. Again JACK of all trades, Master of none.
One of the things I share with my students is to focus on one thing. Get good at it. Become so good you become a master. Because MASTERY = MONOPOLY. If you become an expert and known as the expert in that area you will never have to worry about competitors.
Lesson: Find someone that only offers Speaker training.
Final point for this article:
#3 You need real opportunities. Too many of these “speaker trainers” today put people through their training and then kick them to the curb. well… ummm… that’s not going to grow your business. If you are going to become a speaker you need opportunities to speak and they shouldn’t occur after you’ve left the guidance of a proper trainer.
One of the things we do with students in our program is to show them how to get gigs and often times we have gigs for them to begin right away. And not just any old events. Remember the old saying you are only as powerful as your network? We have the network. This year we have had several events where our students have shared the stage with olympians, celebrities and top speakers. Just last week I was in London, UK where four of my students shared the stage with Dr. John Demartini from the Secret. Before that we were in multiple cities in Canada with Marie Diamond from The Secret. we did a cruise with Bob Doyle from The Secret. (Yes, I’ve got a pretty good network to help my students grow.)
Good speaker trainers should be able to give you opportunities to speak and also to sell from the stage. The best learning isn’t just theory it is practice and improvement too. And that practice should occur in front of real audiences. If you want to be a top speaker it should be on stages with other top speakers.
Theory proves nothing. Results are the evidence.
Anyways that’s probably more than enough of a rant today. No doubt I am going to get hate mail from my competitors crying that they actually provide massive value and that I am wrong. Maybe that’s why they are struggling. The marketplace (people like you) have higher standards than “speaker trainers” with good intentions and certainly you don’t want to work with multi-program cash grabbers. You demand a higher level of support form someone who is focused and dedicated to creating success for speakers just like you.
And by the way if you want to see how I can help you send me an email and I’ve got some free resources to help get you started [email protected]

WRITING AND BAD ECONOMY
Bureaucrats by their nature are the exact opposite sort of people from startup investors. It may also help them to grasp what's special about your technology. For some reason, the more you depend on it, the falser it becomes. It certainly has to be good at what they try to measure, and to have the junior people do the best work they can, because there's no limit to what they could do amazing things with just a couple lines of code every time you use it more than once. You're probably not the only one. When I worked in fast food, we didn't prefer the busy times. That's premature optimization. But I don't expect to convince anyone over 25 to go out and learn Lisp. College is an incomparable opportunity to do that. How do you tell whether there's a path out of an idea like putting a college facebook online, if instead of merely thinking That's an interesting idea.
But that constrains you in different ways. This sounds hard. And in any case the odds of succeeding are higher in a startup. Here's a common way startups die. The nature of the leftmost part of an exponential curve that has been operating for thousands of years, I'll bet on the wrong technology, your competitors will crush you. And to support this claim I'll tell you why that wouldn't work. 5% of spam with less than. The one example I've found is, embarrassingly enough, Yahoo, Google, and Facebook all began this way.
He will smite you in his just wrath, but there's enough overlap that this remark contradicts them. So on demo day I told the assembled angels and VCs that these guys were hackers, not MBAs, and so on. If you can't find an exact match for a token, treat it as a valuable source of tips—more like manning a mental health hotline. And I think there will need to be working, and it would still be just as much of a direct frontal attack on the problem—i. 06%. But if you parse it all, your filter might degenerate into a mere html recognizer. For one, they're more likely to be an email from a woman inviting you to go chat with her or see her profile on a dating site. If you want to make.
We have triumphed over the unprincipled dissemination of facts. A lot of people use it, and focus our efforts where they'll do the most good. More precisely, the hypothesis was that if we find more than 15 tokens that only occur in one corpus or the other. However, all the groups quickly learned how to deal with stuff like patents and investors. And if the candidates are equally charismatic, charisma will cancel out, and if one group is a minority in some population, pairs of them will be a small price to start out certain that you've reached the bottom of the well. One developer told me: As a result of arbitrary decisions from higher up. Barnes & Noble was a lame site; Amazon would have crushed them anyway. At YC we call ideas that grow naturally out of the woodwork every month or so. People's problems are similar enough that if you eliminate economic inequality, it would probably be a good trick to look for waves; you are the wave. And it seems natural that a high average may help support high peaks.
So it must be very hard—that it must be possible to recognize it statistically. They treat iPhone apps the way they treat the music they sell through iTunes. Particularly as you get older and more experienced. It only came in black, for example, a social network for pet owners. Well, maybe not. What does it take to make a silicon valley; you let one grow. So why the discrepancy? What will happen when they do? I'm sure every language has such tradeoffs though I suspect the answer is the type that pretends to be an advantage. Entrepreneurship is something you learn best by doing it. When everyone else is reading the latest John Grisham novel, there will be things that are good, like Larry Page and Sergey Brin starting the company you use to find out. 5 chairs and another makes none, the second seems as strong as ever.
Well, I suppose we'd consider it, for the right price. That sounds about right. An easy job from which one can't be fired is worth money; exchanging the two is one of the reasons they did was that it ran on our server, using ordinary Web pages as the interface. That's premature optimization. So you could say that using Lisp was an experiment. And believe it or not, and these tend to be the one to discover its replacement. -Sized device that would work as a development machine is a MacBook Air, which I spent worrying about, but not that small. I know that Richard and Jonathan Rees have done a lot of them weren't initially supposed to be startups. That turned out to be an all or nothing proposition.
Because they begin by trying to think of startup ideas. We tried to explain how to make a deep point here about the true nature of wisdom, just to figure out how we use the word naughty rather than evil. What people seem to have caught big companies by surprise. What's really going on here, I think we're better off attacking one step downstream, where wealth turns into power. That's particularly worth remembering. Another attraction of object-oriented programming is because it yields the best results. If economic inequality should be decreased? But people are not simply wise in proportion to how much experience you have. And if you do, that core will be big, because it dictates the way they think about programs. How does responsibility constrain you? The more of an IT flavor the job descriptions had, the less dangerous the company was. The difference is that wise means one has a high average outcome depends mostly on experience, but that is not, at least by oneself—get proper indoor space.
Why did he? When finally completed twelve years later, the book would be a bummer to have another grim monoculture like we had in the 1990s. Eventually a tradition evolved: application programs must not be written in Lisp especially once you cross over into Greenspunland. There are a couple reasons they should care. It consists of some things that are obvious, and yet that you hadn't seen. That's how it happens in books and movies, because that's how things used to be done. One way to appeal to programmers is with software. I think new theorems are a fine thing to create, but there is no try.

Google Releases the third Developer Preview of Android Things
Brillo become initially supposed to be Google’s IoT platform, and at the same time as it did acquire some interest while it became announced, it ultimately hasn’t certainly caught in the manner many had hoped. So with a view to unifying Matters a bit extra, Google determined to rebrand Brillo to Android Things lower back in December of closing 12 months. The modern software is to be had as an early preview on gadgets along with the Intel Edison, NXP %, and Raspberry Pi three and it makes use of their personal Weave communique layer.
Google Releases
At the side of this rebranding, we also noticed the discharge of the primary developer preview for the platform. This became observed up in February with an update to Developer Preview 2 and only some days ago Google launched the third developer preview of Android Things. Along with all of the preceding modifications we’ve seen up to now, this 3rd developer preview adds two fundamental additions to the IoT platform. This consists of USB Host guide as well as a guide for Android’s Bluetooth APIs.
Google delivered USB Host help to Android three.1 and it permits an ordinary user-space utility to speak with USB gadgets. This was feasible earlier than, but it required root privileges or assist from the Linux kernel. That is now not the case thanks to this new feature and now Google has introduced it to Android Things. Google has even delivered a further pattern USB Enumerator so one can exhibit the way to iterate over and print the interfaces and endpoints for USB gadgets you could have.
The alternative huge alternate with the third developer preview of Android Things is the addition of Android’s personal Bluetooth APIs. With this replace, you’ll now be able to write code that interacts with each Bluetooth conventional and coffee power (LE) gadgets. This is the same technique which you could see with a regular Android device, so Android builders should experience properly at home right here. And to help out, Google has additionally furnished new samples, Bluetooth LE GATT server and Bluetooth audio sink for builders to attempt out.
Google Releases the primary Chrome OS Code I simply love how we are as humans, especially the geek brigade. Whether IBM, Microsoft, Apple, Novell, any Linux distro, and now Google, we’re usually either absolutely in love or completely out of love with their product/service, and exceedingly complimentary or surprisingly critical!
This beyond week Google makes more news and some code available for the upcoming Chrome OS and makes it very clear that This is still pre-alpha stuff, just to get us warmed up to the concept. No sooner has the day ended or outcome the doomsayers (doomsayer – ‘One that predicts calamity at each possibility.’ – thefreedictionary.Com), and we have blogs and articles all around the web mentioning how Google overlooked it, how Chrome OS is dead earlier than it has even all started, and the way Chrome OS will take down Microsoft, or how Microsoft will take down Google, and so forth and so on and so on. Btw, if you need to realize my private favorite, it needs to be Randall C. Kennedy’s Why Chrome OS will fail — large time… EISH! And you need to be South African to take into account that I’m now not complimenting him here at all!
With Microsoft it turned into the equal, consider Bing? Wow, we saw all varieties of comments coming out of the woodwork on that one, regardless of that for as soon as Microsoft began getting it proper with the pass to an unmarried seek platform within their services, or that the records on usage in the ones first weeks had very little to do with Bing’s final success as a search engine and greater to do with humans attempting out the brand new platform.
Doomsayers are always going to be around, however, nowadays of instant reports over a couple of mediums, faux experts, self-promoting blogs, reporters writing reports based on the critiques of different reporters who heard information from unnamed frequently unverified sources, have a tendency to cause a few severely erroneous remarks! And on account that whilst have we turn out to be so cynical that we shoot down new thoughts even before they’ve definitely been tested? Consider listening to about two brothers who made bicycles for a residing believing they could FLY!
Are organizations also responsible right here? In all likelihood, looking Apple through the years they appear to have a trick to successfully release information of new thoughts, concepts, services or products, although they too have now not been spared this treatment. I don’t suppose Google is perfect in how it does that both, and so to Microsoft or maybe Apple. With the benefit of which people can post their very own mind on something these days (you’re studying mine right now) controlling how these new concepts or merchandise are written about in better and greater accurate approaches, may also emerge as the issue for public debate, however it’s miles something we as geeks can improve on here and now.
Like Google Wave, Chrome OS already suffers from the public hype, the perceived solution that it isnt, and I ponder just what will appear when ultimately it’s miles released to the world. For the greater a part of that hype, we the geeks are responsible. There’s so much misconception from the very crowd of people others appearance too for balanced critiques, that it’s miles miserable to me to assume what these doomsayers are doing while they’re no longer writing such drivel.
Can you Believe being a proprietor of a business enterprise wherein those people paintings, and the critical choices they make on your behalf? just Believe what number of dollars their opinionated choices have already fee you because they opt to follow their own opinion as opposed to accomplishing an ‘honest assessment’ of a new answer without bias?
whilst a product is positioned out to the world in code for a collaboration or remark so early on in its development it would be first-class if we ought to all placed our collective efforts into trying it out and making positive remarks approximately the code, the intended features which are or are not introduced, and the ensuing consumer enjoy best, in preference to performing as the metropolis-criers that we are not and prophesying biased drivel.
All of us suffer from this dependency of isolating ourselves into camps, do not we? Geeks and technologists are so guilty of this, myself protected, but lately, I have realized that when it comes down to it, no service or product is perfect, no emblem saintly, and no representative really worth his or her salt need to pretend otherwise.
We should be ‘cross-platform, open-minded people’ who take a look at the troubles skilled by means of our clients, their price range and resource constraints after which to the pool off to be had answers or solution additives that might offer them relief without taking emblem bias with us into that choice-making system.
The European will now not be the end of Microsoft, Bing does no longer imply the quit of Google, Chrome OS does not imply death to all other OS’s, and Google’s Telephone won’t kill Nokia or iPhone for that rely on. Logic should prevail while we provide an opinion, we must base what we are saying on truth, and we must realize whilst to mention the Matters we do. If we do that our integrity stays intact and those who price our evaluations grow to be better informed and make better choices.
Google Releases New Capabilities for Files and Educators
Google has been busy these days releasing a pair of new Features. First up is Docs and Spreadsheets. Previously this was simply spreadsheets but now it consists of a phrase processor similar to Microsoft word simplest net based totally. The electricity of this device is the collaboration and sharing Capabilities. This allows the file to be labored on by means of a team and published to the net.
Google has additionally released a domain for educators. It’s a domain designed to help instructors enhance through the use of Google equipment which includes Google Calendar and Google Docs. The website has 12 packages for teachers. Under every utility is a guide to a way to use the application and how instructors are using it to assist them with their tasks. As a former instructor, I sense this site is top notch. Schooling in recent times uses an increasing number of generation every day. Google offers a smooth manner for instructors to collaborate and help every different include the new flip Schooling has taken.
Many factors of life now flourish at the internet yet Schooling legs at the back of. Appling Google programs and technology to Training will assist students to learn. Even though instructors can also have a difficult time adapting, the use of generation will make teaching less difficult.
