listen listen. i’m sure maya was the kindest out of all of them but for her to be attached to safi’s hip and to click with vinh … she had to be a little bit of a diva. like there’s no way maya didn’t have some bite to her! she’s even described as bold in the game and was breaking into abandoned buildings first. maya definitely wasn’t some standard ‘good girl’ character c’mon now
#my posts.#life is strange double exposure#maya okada#‘who is this diva’ should be a question applied to safi vinh and maya they were the diva group to me

Here is my interpretation of Maya Okada from LiS: Double Exposure.
I think in life, she’d have had the most radiant and joyful smile. 🥹
Her story is truly heartbreaking. 😭

Since this week's topic is "rewriting Double Exposure", I honestly think the only thing I would change would be the final chapter.
Not entirely, actually... But add a final plot twist and drama.
I would make Maya Okada alive and have shapeshifting powers instead of Safi. And the Safi Fayyad we know be the one who died 4 years ago... BUT we (the player and Max) would only find out about this in the final chapter.
Complicated? Not really.
Maya's life is turned upside down when Lucas plagiarizes her book. And Safi ends herself because of her struggles with a controlling freak mother.
When Maya finds her friend dead, she has a breakdown and, consciously or not, ends up stealing Safi's identity and life.
And, because her powers are psychic, everyone sees the "dead Safi" as Maya Okada and the real Maya replaces her completely.
Eventually this new Safi became friends with Moses and Max, and writes a new book to expose the plagiarism...
Only for this book to be canceled by Yasmin.
And then she has a new breakdown, now with a real identity crisis.
As a game, everything would happen the exact same way:
Safi, Max's new best friend, is mysteriously murdered;
The timelines are split between Dead World and Living World;
Max's investigation leads her to discover more about Maya Okada;
This Safi from the Living World would be furious with her because of this investigation;
The revelation of their powers and then both working together to expos Lucas for plagiarism.
But in the middle of all this, there would be additional clues for Max to piece together what happened in the past, the swap between Maya and Safi.
The gimmick here could be that Max needs to solve the Maya Okada mystery to reveal the truth. And if the player doesn't get enough clues, Max would never find out what happened and everyone would continue to think that this Safi is just Safi falling apart.
But if Max gets all the clues and solves the mystery, she can confront Maya and make her reveal herself, and if the switch was unconscious, make her realize what she's doing.
The Nightmare segments could even have a split path or an additional cutscene if the player has enough clues to figure it out.
The final decision could still be the same. This Safi/Maya is still Max's friend for these 6 months and they cares about each other.
So the final accept/refuse choice could make Maya leave as herself or as Safi.

Later that night, Tess comes up behind Megan and hugs her. Megan startles, unable to fully relax in Tess’s arms. "Hey Meggs and toast." Tess says into her ear, and Megan smiles weakly. "Hey." She says. "Emmy's asleep. If you want to woohoo, we could do it now." Tess says, moving her hands to Megan’s hips. Megan bites her lip, remembering what Tess had said to her about being honest with each other*. "Tessie, can we talk?" She says quietly, and Tess moves away from her. "Okay." She says, and Megan’s stomach churns.
Megan's heart hammers in her chest. "Tessie, I'm sorry but I still sort of have feelings for Iseul and nothing happened between us but-" Megan pauses and then tells her about what Iseul had said at the marketplace earlier in the day, that maybe she should have married Megan and that awkward moment between them. "You told me you didn't feel that way for her anymore." Tess says, her eyes dark. "I know, Tessie. I don't want to, and I love you not her, not anymore." Tess lets out a deep sigh. "But you still have feelings for her. I need some space to think, I'm heading to my pack's cabin for tonight." She says, and Megan nods through a lump in her throat. Tess doesn't even look back at her as she exits the room and Megan stifles a sob, feeling guilty and stupid and angry at herself. She doesn't want to leave Tess or for Tess to leave her, and she would never want to hurt Iseul’s fiancée Grace, who she's become friends with, either. She decides to keep it to herself for now, give Tess space to think, and hope that they could talk it through tomorrow and work it out.
#ts4#mysims#Tess Liao-Feldman#Megan Liao#*it links to the post where Megan first talks with Tess about her crush on Iseul#I'm getting second hand guilt just by writing this 😳😅#Also I was going to use this storyline for Maya and Kaitlyn with Kaitlyn having feelings for her ex Mizuki Okada#but I felt too guilty then and now I still do 😅#also they'll eventually be okay but Tess needs space to think

Hey! I was hoping to further pick your brain about your thoughts on the dream sequence, because you have some incredibly interesting takes that I hadn't even considered!
Do you think Safi would struggle with the memory of it afterwards? Like, if she was the Safi in that memory sequence of the bathroom, afraid and experiencing it like it was real to her? Do you think there would be lots of angst and reassurrance needed from Max afterwards that she doesn't think all those things?
Hi! I'm more than happy to think and talk about Safield, so with pleasure:
If Safi was Safi in the memory sequence, yes, I think she'd struggle with it, I mean she has a lot on her own plate and now on top of it she has seen Max's most traumatic moments.
One could say she finally got more than a little "Max biography nugget", but at what price?
Anyway. Yup. There would be lots of angst, I even wonder if that could influence the way Safi looks at her power, at Max's power and how they could use them? After all she was ready to die at some point in the storm, so what changed in between that moment and talking about being gods (or monsters)?
There would be a need for reassurance, in a way I think it's already included in the game (maybe not due to what Safi saw in the memories, but her own past and trauma). And here I mean the choice whether Safi confronts Lucas as herself or Vinh, whether or not we accept to stand by her at the end and perhaps some other choices I'm not remembering right now.
And speaking of the choice - if one accepts Safi's offer, she knows she has Max in her corner, that Max is not one of those people who told her what she needed to hear to become something they wanted from her, that everything that happened in the storm between them was real.
If rejected, she changes into Max and leaves, why Max? I started liking to think it's still some sort of reassurance for her, after all, even if Max doesn't agree with her, she is still the reason Safi is alive and someone who was in her corner till now.
Buuut I'm think I'm rambling a little.
The way the game is built, that Safi leaves immediately, doesn't leave much space for immediate reassurance and comfort. But as we know Safi is not the one to get lost in her head, so maybe that actually works well? I mean, she found a new purpose (Maya Okada case is finally done and over, so what now? She has nothing in Caledon anymore, besides Max, what should she wait for?) and she goes for it.
So no immediate reassurance, but down the line? When finding those other powered people isn't that easy? It's canon that she is obsessed with Max, so she for sure would sooner or later go back to those moments in the storm. And what she experienced there... Yes, she would need reassurance from Max, she needs Max and Max needs her, it's canon. How fast, in what capacity? First random texts, maybe calls when nightmares get too real and she believes them too much? I don't know...
Hmm, now that I'm thinking about all of it, Safi might be more similar to her mother than she thinks, after all, she said that after dad left she was Yasmin's project, to prove she can do something well without Safi's father. And now Safi found a project to prove she can do something well and deal with the world without Yasmine meddling. Just saying...
Sooooo I'm unsure if I answered your questions, I feel like I went full mode Safi ramble here instead, so I apologise for that. If there is anything further you'd like to talk about, hit me.

Okay, so this is my hat I'm throwing in the ring without having seen anything regarding leaks. But here's what I'm kind of hoping Double Exposure is going to do.
Instead of shape shifters, what if it's body possession?
We're being told about another student who died and was in a similar position as Safi; Maya Okada.
Max is shifting between two realities, and even as far back as LiS1, is implied to have a connection to ghosts with the whole deer/Rachel Amber thing. And every person seems to have a doppelganger situation going on.
What if Maya is possessing people between realities, making them do and say things to expose the truth of what happened. Maybe every major character she's causing issues for is somehow involved in her death. And in order to stay rooted to the world of the living, she has to keep possessing bodies and shifting between realities, resulting in side characters reacting to seeing themselves walking around. She's also the only character mentioned so far that's dead in both timelines. And it might explain the snowdrops you find when looking at the crime scene in episode 2, as Snowdrops symbolize consolation, hope, and a friend in need.
It would also tie in to the title; two timelines, same death needing to be exposed. Double Exposure.
Personally I think that'd be more interesting than a shapeshifter.
Ohhhh I haven't heard this theory yet, but it's really neat! I, for sure, think that Maya is going to have a large role in the game considering how often she's been brought up, so I like how you tied her role in!
This is neat. I'll come back to this ask when the final chapters drop. 👀

max getting three poc love interests ( yes, safi counts in my mind ) is SO good and a nice change of pace to the constant streak of white love interests in lis when you don’t have someone crying about how ‘max would never!’ in your ear
#my posts.#life is strange double exposure#me when max’s love interests are canonically an indigenous lesbian AND#a vietnamese bisexual :) …#and if you count safi max also gets a arabic morally ambiguous queer on TOP of that#ngl i love de for having so much representation and being lowkey the queerest game in the series … with and without subtext#reggie’s gay. diamond is clearly some form of aroace. gwen’s a trans lesbian. moses is into men AND is a black man.#there’s even that sexy man’s magazine which lowkey implies that lucas is into men??? somewhat??? it’s a Thing#lucas is also brown. and maya okada is also not white in the slightest#and her being an immigrant of sorts is exactly what inspired her work that gets stolen etc etc#like YES!!!! FINALLY!!! minorities everywhere in a lis game!!! yay!!!#and them not being white is actually something that matters in the game. not ALWAYS but it is brought up here and there#love it i do

“The beast rose and stared into me. It became me. I had always been the beast.” - Maya Okada.
The Krampus on Campus part of Double Exposure is one of my favourite parts of the game. This piece is inspired by that part and all the emotions Safi felt during that time.

to briefly touch upon this ( mainly due to the fact it specifically bothers me ) let us discuss the maya okada claims that otter still cannot drop.
taken straight from otter’s callout document, and yes, this is indeed the first screenshot of the whole thing.
otter says that pan only said they were going to pick up maya, but then dropped her for ‘vihn’ : as if pan was choosing between those two characters and only finally committed to maya once otter publicly announced that she was musing her first. for starters, this doesn’t negate the fact that pan took notes on this specific character before otter or hal did. and again, who cares? many people muse the same character. many people take notes on them. i don’t see why this is such a sore spot, but i’m going to straighten this out easily.
believe it or not, pan had made their lis multi a good while before any of their lis mutuals found it. because, originally, both of our multis for the life is strange universe were supposed to be extremely private. as in, only me and pan were going to know of them, and just write with each other on there. it’s actually very easy to prove this, because if you check the date on @/stormcast, it says this :

would you look at that? @/stormcast, or at the very least the pinned post, was made january first. for the record, i didn’t follow hal until around january tenth or january eleventh. so no, actually, pan didn’t just make a whole multi to spit in otter’s face over maya okada — maya had been there and sitting there, privately, for a good long time before either hal or otter showed up to begin with.
here is me asking pan about their muses on stormcast, including maya okada who, again, was already on there :

notice the dates here. january third!
and even if maya wasn’t on this multi muse, which she was, it doesn’t matter whatsoever because some people muse characters only on discord. this is common knowledge in tumblr rpc spaces and doesn’t invalidate the fact that pan was interested in maya without any outside influence. painting this as some sort of jealousy thing or insecurity is strange, peculiar, and reeks of duplicate anxiety : which if otter has, she should just say so and move on with her life. people muse your muses when they are canon characters, please get over it and stop whining.
our multis became public because, due to an ask i sent from @/strangeis to @/vinhlang, people begun to follow me on there. interestingly enough, here were the first people that followed me :

as stated, topaz followed my multi right after pan responded to my safi ask — and then i was followed by hal soon after. i expressed surprise at this because i knew how topaz followed me, but i wasn’t sure if hal followed me from a.) pan’s vinh blog or b.) topaz’s follower page, which was available at the time. again, i didn’t necessarily care, so long as hal had found it via topaz, but i knew that the multi wasn’t so private anymore, and thus i started making it more public over time.
anyway. our multis were private but have been there for a while! i can’t exactly use my pinned post as a evidence, simply because it was an old rp blog i stripped for new blog reasons, but pan’s multi blog was created for the sole intention of making @/stormcast, and the dates do add up.
i understand that this claim is a rather petty one to nitpick, but oh well. they brought it up first and i’m merely replying to it. i could show off all of pan’s notes in their entirety over maya okada, but i don’t need to anymore i think. everything else speaks for itself as far as i’m aware.
#evidence.#also spelling a vietnamese name wrong repeatedly in your doc when it’s four letters is sad honestly#but somehow pan’s the racist. yes pan the brown person. interesting!#to help everyone out : it is vinh. not vihn. it is literally in pan’s url but i suppose some people cannot read#or be bothered i suppose

Double Exposure remake idea - "Life is Strange: Shadows and Spirits"
@thealexchen @nicefieldsfm Here is my idea for how I would rewrite Double Exposure and rename it to Shadows and Spirits, but more fully detailed after putting a lot more thought into what I originally mentioned before;
Have an original as the protagonist like all the other games, and also make their artistic talent scrap-booking. The new protagonist's name, Nina Balthazar, a girl born in Boston, Massachusetts, primarily English descent with some French and Irish and moved to Vermont after high school. Her spirit animal, Tiger. A "Chaotic Good" type, has a mix of charm and grit. Someone deeply creative and a sense of humor, but with a sharp edge, isn't afraid to speak her mind or throw hands if push comes to shove, and with a backstory of not wanting anyone to see her vulnerable like she was years ago after some bad bullying experiences where she has violently lashed out before. Instantly clicks with Moses Murphy, looks up to Gwen Hunter, wary of Loretta Rice and her friendship with Diamond Washington is determinant.
Customization: Before each episode begins, you get to decide on the top and bottom for being indoors. The jacket and (optional) beanie for being outdoors, as well as the decorations on Nina's bag with more that can be found around Caledon University.
Max Caulfield can still be there as a teacher/artist in residence at Caledon. Her introduction comes after the prologue when Nina enters the classroom. In a moment where Nina's lost in her thoughts, there's a flash and click of a camera where see spots Max standing at the door capturing a candid moment with her Polaroid.
The power: Umbrakinesis (Control shadows and manipulate them in ways that can get you pass obstacles, obtain or move things out of reach, be stealthy in creative ways and be a lethal force of nature). The plot would be adjusted accordingly so that the power can be used to solve puzzles and progress in the story.
The collectibles would be photographs and newspaper clippings that Nina can find for her to add into her scrapbook and then decide on what to write next to them.
The romance choices: I would still have Amanda and Vinh be an option, but also have their characters further explored so we can get more time to bond with them and also have an option to reveal the power to them at some point. Whoever you choose can lead to different ways to progress.
Music: The one music artist I would have as the main focus is Koethe Koethe, who has made plenty of Life is Strange inspired songs, and at least one Moment of Calm spot to use the song At a Glace by Message to Bears.
------
Names for each episode;
EPISODE 1: Shadow Awakening
EPISODE 2: Spirits of the Past
EPISODE 3: Fear in the Dark
EPISODE 4: Web of Lies
EPISODE 5: Into the Abyss
Each episode with 4-5 major choices that can impact relationships, power usage or Nina’s morality in whether or not she can be more open or more guarded, and 8 minor choices that can be made around campus that affect character interactions, environmental changes, or smaller consequences. The final episode only having one major choice. The story ending in three different ways based on your choices and how you use your power.
------
The main conflict: A supernatural mystery revolving around Maya Okada, a student who suffered a tragic fate tied to Caledon University. Her spirit, and others, manifests as shadowy disturbances, and Nina’s power over shadows becomes the key to both uncovering the truth and putting Maya’s spirit to rest.
The main moment where Nina's power is triggered for the first time is when she's in the library late at night, working on a scrap-booking project. Nina stumbles upon an old, cryptic note or journal entry tied to Maya Okada’s death, hidden in the library. The message reading, "They silenced her, but the shadows remember." And when she tries to leave, Nina crosses paths with bullies that are heavily drunk just outside of the building, and they start harassing her to the point they try to grab her scrapbook, the confrontation turning more aggressive. In that moment of raw anger and fear, the streetlights go out, and an unnatural chill fills the air. Shadows in the environment begin to shift and twist unnaturally, coiling around Nina protectively. Without realizing it, she uses her Umbrakinesis for the first time.
A choice is to be made in this moment, using her power to either Make Them Hurt to use her power that constricts and twist their limbs before she then throws bullies across the sidewalk, or Terrorize Them to frighten them into fleeing. The consequences for the following day; If they were left unharmed, their claims of what they had seen last night can be dismissed as hallucinations due to them being heavily inebriated. If they were injured, this could lead to more suspicion towards Nina and she'd have to choose her words in how to deflect it.
As Nina begins to learn more about this power, and debates on experimenting with it with plenty of opportunities to, she also begins to see Maya’s spirit in the shadows that Nina can see and talk to and use her power to connect with her shadow and manifest her into a visible ghost. Maya is not immediately hostile and Nina continues to find cryptic clues, like Maya leading her to hidden places or Nina using her power to reach out to other spirits that trigger visions of Maya’s past life. Their relationship evolves from fear to trust as Nina realizes Maya isn’t evil but deeply hurt.
------
When Max accidentally bares witness to Nina's power without her realizing she's there, Max immediately recognizes there's someone else with powers like her and then tells Nina they need to talk as she has her meet in the Hellerton House. From there, they have a heart-to-heart discussion about Nina's powers, and also Max's rewind powers, leading to Max sharing her experiences with rewinding time, and the impossible choice she had to make back in Arcadia Bay. Their discussion leads to Max becoming Nina's mentor in helping her understanding and controlling her power, and how she can use them. Max's gentle, thoughtful demeanor could contrast Nina’s fiery personality, creating a mentor-student dynamic type of relationship. Max’s photography could intertwine with Nina’s scrap-booking for them to collaborate on a project as Max subtly warns Nina about the costs of using her power. - "With great power, comes great bullshit."
Additionally for Chloe Price, depending on the first game's ending, she could also have a place to work at Caledon in a metal workshop, creating commissioned metal sculptures. Chloe can also be there to provide her own support and hella commentary with Max and Nina. Or alternatively, Chloe would be absent with Nina able to find some stuff lying around connecting to Arcadia Bay, including a photo of Chloe.
Throughout the game, there would be moments where Nina can bond more with Max and place more trust in her, strengthening their relationship. Or Nina can act dismissive and guarded, thinking that she can figure things out herself, thus creating tension and slower trust-building between them. And if Chloe is there, depending on how you interact with Max, Chloe can be friendly towards Nina and more open, or confrontational and wary with Nina pushing Max away when she's trying to help.
------
The antagonist, Dr. Elias Castor: Maya’s advisor whom she trusted and confided in, but exploited her vulnerability to advance his own research on fear and human behavior. Now, I very much still have my heart set on a proper antagonist who also has a power and truly believe it can work if utilized properly. The way I would go about it is; the power of illusion to control others' fears, can reach out to see what people fear most and then manipulate everything they see and feel as a physical force. Castor’s power gives him control to manipulate what he wants others to see and feel, amplify fear in others, paralyzing them or forcing them to relive their darkest moments. So when Maya threatened to expose him, he used his power to drive her into despair, leading to her tragic death. And now sees Nina (and Max) as his next “subjects”. Dr. Castor can serve as a dark mirror to Nina, representing what she could become if she lets her power consume her and not listen to Max.
Detective Vince Alderman is also there doing his own investigation in the weird events occurring in Caledon, as well as the supposed fight that happened when Nina first used her power, and Dr. Castor discreetly uses Detective Alderman to make things difficult for Nina when she closes in on what really happened to Maya as she navigates the fine line between justice and vengeance when trying to solve the mystery.
After two episodes of subtle manipulation, strange happenings, and moments of doubt, Dr. Castor’s power is revealed during a climatic confrontation near the end of of the third episode. Whether or not Nina tries to use her shadows to confront him, she will then be completely overpowered when he turns her own fears against her in an illusion by his design.
The doctor leans down after subduing her and delivers the chilling line: "You think you're the only one gifted with a special power?" This sets the stage for a battle of wits and strategy as he leaves the room, leaving Nina to use her power of shadows to feel her way through and break out of the illusion trap.
The penultimate would revolve around the relationships built up to this point in who can be trusted and help give Maya's spirit closure and bring down Dr. Castor, and even express her feelings to either Amanda or Vinh wanting to pursue a relationship. Or if you chose to remain guarded and closed off, this would make things a bit more difficult with just Nina and Maya to handle things on their own.
The climax pits Nina against the mad doctor in a full-blown psychological warfare, where both are in an illusion created by Dr. Castor and Nina's control over shadows clashes with his control of her fears. Maya’s spirit could play an important role, either empowering Nina's shadows or distracting Dr. Castor. In the end, when Nina finally has him subdued with her shadows, the player faces a crucial final choice:
Spare Castor's life to expose his crimes, bringing him to justice and giving Maya closure
Use Nina’s power to pierce Castor's heart, crossing a moral line, but ending the threat permanently
------
And that's it. Hope that you all like this idea.

Later the next night, Tess heads to the Okada house to perform a spiritual cleansing. One of the house owners, supermodel turned actress Mizuki Okada, sheepishly tells Tess that she got her daughter a vintage Ophelia doll and the activity started then. “It went from hearing doors open and close by themselves, to feeling like someone’s touching your arm or shoulder, to now hearing laughter and soft cries and my family and I are quite frankly terrified of what's next.” Mizuki explains, and Tess nods. “I understand, Ms. Okada, and don’t worry I’ll sort it out and send the spirits on in peace.” Tess says reassuringly. “Thank you, and please call me Mizuki. You know, your auntie Kaitlyn recommended you to me*, she says you're good.” Mizuki adds, smiling, and Tess smiles too. "Okay, let me get started." Tess says.
Tess, with the help of Guidry, helps the ghost pass onto the netherworld. She smiles as she feels the atmosphere of the house go from tense and cold to warm, cozy, and calm. She thanks Guidry and lets him go home, and heads to the house to let the family know it’s all safe. “Thank you.” Kalama, Mizuki’s wife, says as her son Akamu sighs in relief. “It’s no problem.” Tess says, smiling. “How the hell did you do it?” Alexus asks skeptically. She’s Mizuki’s daughter from a previous relationship, and is 23 years old now (she was a teen for so long and I was like crap, let me age her into a young adult). “Well, I reach out and communicate with the departed, and guide them to the netherworld. Sometimes my guide Guidry helps me but usually if it’s not too bad I can manage on my own.” Alexus nods, raising her brows. “She-the ghost, talked to me and spooked me for a week, I think cause I’ve been able to see ghosts since I was a kid she might've latched onto me.” Alexus admits, rubbing her arm. Tess nods sympathetically. She gives Alexus some tips to safely talk with ghosts and how to protect herself while dealing with them if they get too demanding or start to escalate their behavior, and Alexus nods. “Thanks.” She says, smiling shyly at Tess.
