This was an obvious one, I think anyone who knows me saw this coming. It's just brought me so much... reprieve. relief. cathartic release. It's a combination of two of my loves - fandom and hockey. I never imagined the overlap between those two fandoms would be very big, but it has brought me SO many incredible friends. People that I talk to regularly, people who make me smile with a single comment, people who have supported and encouraged me to keep going when I was afraid to. I just don't have enough words to describe how much those relationships mean to me, seriously. @alavenderleaf @hannahshattuck @rohruh @fsbc-librarian I love you with all my heart.

i'm the furthest thing from heaven, but the closest to home

This was a fic I recently wrote, which started as a 2-3K one shot for @circaclementine, and then suddenly it took over. I wrote this for an All Caps Bingo challenge and was really determined to do it (all Clem's fault), which drove this to nearly 20K (which is really long for ME, okay!). It combined a lot of (A) what I love (wingfic, angels), (B) what I wanted to explore more of (Steve waking up without Buck and (C) challenging myself to find canon-adjacent moments that I could re-write and bring into my story. I took a lot of lines and moments straight from the MCU, which I hoped that made the fic even more "real" for some people and I have to thank Clem for this delightful challenge and all the subsequent support that I needed, lol. Still, I loved every moment.

it's not love

I really loved writing this one because it was one of the first parts of my "Seb Stan Series" ideas. It's a rare pair (1940s Bucky/Lee Bodecker) but in writing this, I felt a bit of a challenge in writing someone that wasn't just Bucky. I explored a lot more about my writing, and honestly I was actually really proud of this one after Maya helped me fall in love with it all over again. It's sweet, sad, and that basically sums me up as a writer.

How could this not be on my list! It was a fic that I basically wrote with my best pals @cable-knit-sweater @mxaether. It was an honour to write with Maya, and I am continuously blown away by what we accomplished. 36K words?! Are you freaking kidding me! And of course, not only was Kam's art fucking mindblowing but the endless support for all of our collective shouting was very much needed. I just can't even tell you how much love is in this fic and how much love came out of it. I'm so proud of us, truly. Love you both so much.

It started with SamBuckyTorres (spread your wings) but I wanted to delve more into Bucky/Torres. I thought "oh! It'd be so fun to do an age difference fic" with Daddy Bucky (I'd never written daddy kink before this fic) and I think I just enjoyed unleashing Bucky on Torres. It made writing Dom Bucky easier for me in my later fics, which is really obvious to me looking back now! Thank you Baby Bird/Slut. Sorry Hannah for dragging you down with me. 😘

This is the fic that got me started in the Bucky/Reader fandom. I was just writing a simple one-shot and the comments/feedback I got were so amazing that I just kept going?! And going, and going, and going. It turned into a 23 chapter monster purely based on the feedback I got and the conversations I was having. First RAGE: This is BULLSHIT! How do you chop your #2 drama on a shortened season no less.

Now reasoning: Okay most cable shows only get 10-12 episodes to tell their stories are are better for it. They don't have filler episodes. They just tell their story.

Now recon: we better get a pregnant Carina this season and her giving birth in the penultimate or finale episode (only if the finale is a time jump). I will not accept anything else. I don't care about anyone else's story line. But Maya and Carina need to be on the baby track.

Though unbelievable Station 19 is in a very precarious position. GREYS wanted to get to season 20, now they're here, I would be curious to see if ABC will end it too. Theb finally their ties with Shonda will be over and they can start with a new "dynasty".

Or will they keep Greys? Will Carina/Stefania go back or will it end with Maya and Carina moving somewhere where Maya can be Captain and Carina can start her own practice? (We'll only hear about this cause they won't do a spinoff).

And then I think season 7 is contract renewal time for most of them so maybe ABC didn't want to have to negotiate contracts after going through the strike.

This is shitty news and I am processing outloud and in your inbox but at least they know and can end it on their terms.

I would be very shocked if we get pregnant Carina at this point. I just hope we get quality Marina content throughout the entire season knowing it's the last we'll get of them.

If they seriously intend on keeping Grey's past Season 20, I have no words for that. For what purpose? I know it does well streaming wise but their ratings week to week have been terrible lately and the storylines are just boring and dull at this point. They barely have any intriguing characters left. But I bet you they'll give them at least another season or they would have announced it ahead of time because you know they'd give them a full season warning so they could wrap it up on their own terms since they treat Grey's like it's their golden child. It would be interesting to see if they ever brought Stefania back to Grey's though if it does last at least another season but something tells me the answer would be no. I do like the idea of Marina's ending being somewhere that Maya can be Captain and Carina starting her own practice though so I'd rather that anyway.

But yeah, I guess we should be glad they do get to write an ending and know ahead of time since some shows don't even get that...and maybe they will do something extra special for the 100th episode but...it's hard to feel happy or excited about any of that right now.

Brief 1: Red Vs Blue (Modeling)

At this point, I was ready to start blocking out my model. It kinda took me a while to figure out how I was actually going to approach the modeling process and to be completely frank, I am really intimidated by modeling. However, I took my shot at attempting to create it.

Before I started the actual modeling process, I added a basic human mesh to the scene and changed the units to meters to scale the model accurately to real life.

I first used basic primitive shapes, mostly cubes and cylinders to try and block out the shape for the airplane. I tried to line and arrange them together, just trying to get a basic shape I desired. Its basically a trial and error session until I got what I wanted and I started working on it.

I was using different Maya tools at my disposal and as per the necessity. To create an opening for the seats, I used the edge loop tool to add 2 edge loops at an equal distance with each other and deleted the upper faces that were marked out with a multi-cut tool.

To create the exhaust plates for the airplane, I used a basic cylinder shape, beveled its edges to make it smoother and added edge loops. A clever way of adding details to a model that I have always used is extruding faces off the edge loops and beveling its edges to give it more finer detailing.

From here on out, it's basically a nested process of adding a primitive shape, adding loops, extruding or deleting the faces, beveling its edges and so on.

A useful tip I received from my former undergraduate lecturer back in Nepal was to switch from the raw to the smooth view from time to time to ensure that you are getting the correct shape you desire when you introduce more faces and poly counts to the model when smoothing it.

It took me a while to figure out a way to tackle the interior of the plane but the easiest method I implemented was to add a cube, scale it elongated and pulling the outermost edges upwards and reversing the face normals. I then previewed it in smooth view and it worked like a charm so I used this taxing method. I do believe there is a better way to create the interior but this works for now.

I used primitive shapes to create the base stand for the toy, adding loops and extruding faces and shaping it as desired until I was satisfied with the stand. I also added a smooth operation to the models that were modeled with the help of smooth view to introduce more poly counts that would aid us later when unwrapping the UVs for the models.

I had concluded with the modelling process for the airplane. One of the major prop that I created was a coin box for the airplane toy. The image above clearly demonstrates similar techniques that were employed in the creation of this coin pole box model.

After all of the models that I had envisioned were created, I started smoothing them out and was looking for any irregularities in the topologies. Since, I was on a very tight schedule, I couldn't spend much time debugging the model and I do suspect I have missed a few problems here and there, but for the most part, the models were completed.

Not a single book to be read...

I didn't read much this month. I started a few, read the Vanity Fair Hollywood issue, and a handful of Atlantic articles. But in the name of consistency, I wanted to do a monthly write-up.

Lover, Stalker, Killer got a lot of hype, and my initial reaction was positive as well.

The season finale of RHOP and part 1 of the reunion made the whole sleepy season worth it. Mia guaranteed her slot for next season (I hope) and solidified me as a fan! I just fear for the rest of the cast. This franchise was SO good! I'm sad to see litigious actions get in the way of what could be a good time. I can't even take a side because truly all parties are letting their pride get in the way of a lot of this series. I would like to explore the claims of colorism because at times I think the women -Candice and Wendy- take it too fair, and other times I think the others -Giselle, Robyn, Ashley- do get away with a lot that. But is that because of the color or their skin or because their better at being bitches? In fact, I would say Candice gets away with more bad behavior than anyone. Though, I do appreciate Candice bringing colorism up because whether I agree or disagree, it is an issue, and likely one she has to live through everyday. Who am I to minimize that? I think my concern is when it's used as a weapon against her cast. Don't get me wrong, I love the fighting. But there's a line where you eventually should want to empower each other, not sling insults.

I may have the harshest opinions about Lovely Bones. I remember the hype around that book and movie and it's been on my to-watch list for ages! I had such high hope with a young Saoirse Ronan, Stanley Tucci, Rachel Weisz, and crime drama with a touch of supernatural to boot! I also didn't hate that Mark Wahlberg was in it. He's a controversial guy, but I love a Boston accent. The moment stayed positive for 98% of this movie. And for those who have seen it (or read it; I'm not sure if the book follows the same ending), will hopefully understand how aggravating for our protagonist to steel a kiss rather than enact justice for herself and her family. I don't care that the villain got GOT eVeNtUaLlY. I guess I'll refrain from spoilers, but this ending was not it!

If you were a kid with cable between 1999 and 2010 and didn't watch Quiet on Set, what are you even doing? The best way I can describe this documentary is by steeling someone else's TikTok review unattributed: "These kids gave up their childhood, so we could have ours." My heart goes out to all children in show business. We see over and over again the damage it could cause, and we still can't seem to get it right.

I watched Schitt's Creek early on in the pandemic (as everyone seemed to do), but hadn't really rewatched it beyond memorable clips online. It was well worth the rewatch. In fact I would argue that the second go around was even better because there was no getting to know the characters. Honestly this show is so heartwarming and I envy the creators way of developing these characters. There growth over the 6 season is incredible. They never lose who they are at their core, but they become such lovable, fallible, people. We should all be so lucky.

Finally, Take Care of Maya was a fascinating watch. My main intrigue was the chronic disease the titular Maya suffered and that a ketamine comma in Mexico was the existing treatment. The ways in which our bodies can fail us is incredible -- how many times have I used "incredible" in this write-up? Note-to-self, expand my vocabulary. Of course the tragedy that this documentary reveals is a failure in yet another American system. In documentaries like this it makes me question if there will ever be a solution to these problems, though for my own mental health I try not to dwell on it outside of business hours (/s).

Hi Maya!

Great post this week. I took a chance to listen to the song “Cowboy Take Me Away” that you referenced. They also sing “I wanna look at the horizon / And not see a building standing tall / I wanna be the only one / For miles and miles.” Though this may not be the intention of the song as a whole, these select lines make me think about industrialization and the reduction of green space that we have been seeing a lot of in recent decades.

So, in the same way that art can communicate an image to a listener/viewer/enjoyer and evoke “the gift of beauty”, it can also be a medium through which the artist expresses their stance on a particular subject, which in turn urges the enjoyer to assess their own stance as well. Take this song for example: “For What It’s Worth” by Buffalo Springfield. This song was written about civil rights disturbances in the US and quickly became an anti-war and protest anthem in the 60’s. This piece of art became a part of the history of the region and time period!

In this way, art can be used as an influential tool – a cause for self-reflection on one’s position on a subject. I imagine this can become important in interpretation, for example, when considering talking about conservation in an interpretive program. It is not the interpreter’s job to indoctrinate visitors, but instead provide the opportunity for them to have a moment of individual contemplation and inspiration to take action.

Which of Beck and Cable’s “gifts” do you think using art as an influential tool falls under?

Art and Nature Interpretation

The most frequent way that I interpret nature through art is through music. This tends to be through descriptive lyrics painting a scene. One of my favourites is from the song Cowboy Take Me Away by the Chicks which says “I said, I wanna touch the earth / I wanna break it in my hands / I wanna grow something wild and unruly / I wanna sleep on the hard ground (The Chicks, 1999).” These lyrics evoke the scene of a field of wildflowers, and I can picture myself lying in the middle of the field crumbling dirt in my hands. I find that by interpreting nature through music, I can be transported to places I have never been. 

As mentioned in the textbook, art evokes emotion, and the best interpreters can get into the hearts of their audience (Beck et al., 2018). As such, interpreting nature through art can be an important experience for anyone seeking to participate in a nature interpretation program or looking to connect with nature. When you interpret art, you are seeing the world through someone else’s eyes, through their interpretation. This can aid in connecting with or interpreting nature as the artist may have connected with a small aspect of nature that the audience would have typically overlooked. 

Art forms such as theatre, dancing, and music can be beneficial for interpretation for children and adults with attention deficit disorders as it provides a more engaging or interesting method of education (Beck et al., 2018). The engaging nature of these arts can help prevent individuals from getting bored, which can be beneficial as it makes nature interpretation more accessible for individuals that would struggle to learn through other methods. 

There is no correct way to view a piece of art; how one views it depends on how one interprets the piece. As well, art is accessible to everyone, from paintings to more engaging forms like dance and theatre. As such, art should be open to everyone to interpret nature through, you do not have to be an experienced nature interpreter to use art to interpret nature. 

The “gift of beauty” is a principle of interpretation that encourages interpretation to open the audience’s eyes to the beauty of nature around them, lead to the experience of a spiritual effect, and encourage preservation (Beck et al., 2018). Art is an excellent way to connect with nature in this way. Since there are so many different forms of art, there is something for almost everyone. In my own life, I interpret the gift of beauty as the feeling I get when I feel the desire to photograph a location so that I can look back on the photo and show others. When I feel compelled to take a photo, I feel a connection to the location and hope that it will be preserved for others to see in the future. I have attached one of these photos that I took many years ago in the Kawartha Lakes area! The I was inspired by the beauty of the leaves beginning to change.

My favourite ways to interpret nature are through music and photographs. What about you?

1. Do you daydream a lot before you write, or go for it as soon as the ideas strike?

I'm a total daydreamer. Most scenes/ideas bounce around in my head for a while until I pick up my notes app and make an outline.

11. Do you write scenes in order, or do you jump around?

I jump around! Most of the time I outline the entire fic and then write the scenes in my head. Then I have to try and connect them all, and that's when I give up. Sometimes I have the beginning and the ending, then I have to work out the middle. Other times I just have the middle.

25. What’s your favorite part of the writing process (worldbuilding, brainstorming/outlining, writing, editing, etc)?

Outlining is my favorite part! I can get out an outline super quickly (the entirety of lane lines was drafted in two hours one afternoon and then fleshed out over the course of a week before I started writing it. The sequel took three hours when I woke up at 5am). It's the actual writing part that slows me down.

69. What are your favorite fics at the moment?

So many and I still have so many to catch up on! This fandom is fantastic and I'm currently only reading Stucky fics so I'll pick five recent faves:

Fuyutsuki: Just as I thought.  Is it coming from MAGI-2 in Matsushiro (Tokyo-2)?

Shigeru: No, it's at least 5 MAGI type units. Hacking verified from Germany, China, the U.S....

Fuyutsuki: SEELE is mustering all of their forces.  5 to 1 odds... Not good.

Shigeru (off screen): No. 4 firewall breached!

Makoto: Locking the main database... Negative! We can't stop their invasion!

Maya (off screen): It's entering a deeper level! (on screen) Even the back-up circuit can't stop it!

Misato (thinking): Just hacking MAGI? They're not going to let us off that easy... probably.

Fuyutsuki: MAGI is only the first skirmish. The bastards' objective is the direct take-over of headquarters and the two remaining Eva units.

Gendo: Yes.  With not only Lilith, but even Adam in our hands....

Fuyutsuki: No wonder the old men are so worried.

(MAGI displays turn green)

(NERV officer raises arms in surrender - JSSDF officer fires a round into his head, places his foot on the body, and fires two more shots.)

JSSDF officer (female): Eva pilots are to be terminated on sight. Unconditional execution of non-combat personnel authorized.

JSSDF officer (on radio): Yanagihara and Shinjo squads, enter lower levels immediately.

(Shinji hiding... and found by three JSSDF soldiers)

Soldier: 3rd pilot found - will proceed to eliminate. (Places barrel of gun against Shinji's forehead) Nothing personal, kid.

(Misato charges in firing to the rescue)

Shigeru: I'm sure they'd like to take us out in a single blow, but the original MAGI system is right below us.

Makoto: They want the MAGI system intact, huh?

Shigeru: But we're defenseless against BC (biological and chemical) weaponry. If they use those, we're in trouble.

Makoto: N2 weapons, too...

(As if by coincidence, an N2 warhead drops, opening up the Geofront)

Fuyutsuki (smirking): Playing a bit rough, aren't we?

(Numerous missiles strike the Geofront directly)

Maya: Why do they want the Evas so badly!?

SCENE:  Misato and Shinji in Misato's car - Scrapped Eva prototypes. -----------------------------------

Misato: They plan to initiate Third Impact - not with Angels, but by using the Eva series. 15 years ago, Second Impact was caused by humans on purpose. (Flashed shot: Second Impact) But that was in order to minimize the damage by returning Adam (flashed image: Giant of Light) to an embryonic state (flashed image: Embryo in attache case)  before the other Angels awoke. (flashed image: graves) Shinji, we humans were born from a being called Lilith, who is the source of life just like Adam.  We are the 18th Angel. (flashed image: DNA) The other Angels are possibilities of what we might have become - humans that gave up human form. (flashed image: Kaworu - Rei) Sadly, we had to reject each other - even though we're all human... Listen, Shinji... You must destroy all of the Eva series.  It's the only way to stay alive.

SCENE:  Office of the Prime Minister of Japan (Sounds of construction in the background) -----------------------------------

Asuka: The Eva series!? They've been completed?

Fuyutsuki: Deployment of all nine units equipped with the S2 system!? Isn't that a bit excessive? Or, do they plan to initiate it here!!?

(Eva series land)

Misato (on phone): Listen Asuka. You must destroy all of the EVA series. I'll have Shinji there to help assist you soon.  Do your best. (changes lines - to Makoto) We can get to EVA-01 via emergency route No. 20, right?

Makoto (on phone): Affirmative.  We've secured three seperate power sources just in case. As long as you enter within three minutes, you can reach the No. 7 cage directly.

(Misato starts dragging Shinji)

(Asuka in EVA-02)

Asuka: I have to destroy them all? Is she forgetting she's talking to a convalescent? Nine units in three and a half minutes... That works out to only 20 seconds apiece!

(Asuka attacks)

Asuka: Erst! (German: "That's one!")

SCENE:  Misato and Shinji - Emergency Elevator R-10-20 -----------------------------------

Misato: Here it is.

(Shots fire... Misato is hit, but they enter the shaft and the door closes)

1st soldier: They got away...

2nd soldier (to radio): Unable to terminate target. Standing by for orders to pursue...

JSSDF officer (on radio): Negative.  That area is scheduled for demolition. Pull back immediately.

2nd soldier: Yes, sir.

(Misato and Shinji in passageway)

Misato (slumped against wall - labored breathing): Th... That should hold them off... for a while. I'm okay... It's not as serious... as it looks. (staggers to feet and opens gate) There's still power - We can make it.

(Misato pins Shinji against gate)

-Shinji... from here out you're on your own. You have to make the decisions by yourself - without anyone's help.

Shinji: I... I can't do it.  I just can't... I can't pilot Eva if it means I'm going to hurt or even kill other people. I have no right to do that. I thought that piloting Eva was my only choice... But I was just fooling myself. I don't understand anything - I'm not worthy to pilot Eva. There's nothing that I can do for other people! I've done terrible things to Asuka, and even killed Kaworu... There isn't a shred of kindness in me! Only dishonesty and cowardice... If I can only hurt people, then I'd rather not do anything at all!

Misato (angrily): I'm not going to feel sorry for you. If you don't want to be hurt, then just die without doing anything at all!

(Shinji starts crying)

(Misato's tone becomes gentler)

-You hate yourself, right? That's why you hurt other people... Because you know that hurting other people is more painful than hurting yourself. But, no matter what happens, remember that it was your decision. And that makes it worthwhile, Shinji - Because you decided by yourself! So stop lying to yourself... Think about what you can do... And then live with your decisions.

Shinji: But you're... you're not me! You don't understand anything about ME!!

(Misato slams Shinji against the gate)

Misato (harshly): So what if I'm not you!? Are you just going to give up now!? If you stay here and do nothing, I won't forgive you! I'll NEVER forgive you!!

(Misato's tone changes to desperation)

-Nobody's perfect. You realize that you've made a mistake, and then regret it... That's all I've ever known. Nothing but empty happiness and hating myself. But... I feel like I always grew from the experience!

Misato (gently): Listen, Shinji. Pilot Eva once more and find yourself. Pilot Eva to face the questions "Why did you come here?" "Why are you here?" Find your own answers. And then... after finding yourself... come back to me.

(Misato places her cross in Shinji's hand)

Misato: It's a promise. Now, go.

(Misato kisses Shinji deeply)

Misato(sultry voice): That's a grownup kiss. We'll do the rest when you get back...

(Misato pushes the stunned Shinji into the elevator and then collapses)

Misato (weakly): If I knew it would end this way... I would've done like Asuka said... And changed the carpet... Right, Pen-pen? Kaji... did I do all right?

(A ghostly Rei stands above Misato, then an explosion -> Shinji crying in elevator.  Looking at Misato's blood spattered cross and tasting her blood in his mouth, Shinji slides into the corner, sobbing.)

SCENE:  Asuka fighting Eva series -----------------------------------

(Shinji standing in front of EVA-01 encased in solidified Bakelite)

Asuka (on speaker): Jeeez!  Don't they ever stop!? And I can't even count on that idiot Shinji!!

SCENE:  Terminal Dogma - Gendo, Rei and Lilith - Ritsuko sitting at edge of LCL pool -----------------------------------

Ritsuko: I've been waiting for you.

(Ritsuko stands and draws a gun... Asuka fighting... Back to Ritsuko)

Ritsuko: I'm sorry... I secretly altered MAGI's program earlier. A daughter's final request... Mother... die with me.

(Ritsuko presses something in her pocket, but nothing happens.)

Ritsuko: It didn't activate?  Why!? (Pulls portable terminal from pocket - Casper-3: Rejected)

(gasp) Betrayed by Casper! How could you, Mother?  Choosing your man over your own daughter...

(Gendo draws his gun)

Gendo: Ritsuko Akagi, I truly... (Gendo's lips move, but you can't hear him.)

Ritsuko (surprised, but then smiles): ... Liar....

(Gendo shoots Ritsuko, who falls back into the pool of LCL before a ghostly Rei.)

SCENE:  NERV Command Center The battle rages on - Maya monitors EVA-02 via laptop computer -----------------------------------

Makoto: What's happening outside?

Maya: Less than a minute before EVA-02 reaches its operational limit! At this rate, Asuka will...!

(Asuka fighting the Eva series)

Asuka: I can't lose!

(Shinji sitting in front of EVA-01)

Asuka (on speaker): Not with Mama watching me!

Shinji: Mama... Mother?

(Back to Asuka fighting)

Asuka: These are the last ones!

(As Asuka finishes off the last Evas, one of the Eva series' swords comes flying at her... She stops it with her AT Field, but it turns into the Lance of Longinus)

Asuka: The Lance of Longinus!?

Souls flow from the Earth to the Black Moon and then into Lilith-Rei's hands... An eye appears in Lilith-Rei's forehead into which the EVA-01/Lance cross plunges itself and disappears...)

SCENE:  Inside Lilith-Rei - Shinji hears laughing voices and sees countless spirit-Reis flowing towards a red core -----------------------------------

Shinji: (gasp)Ayanami... Rei?

(Inside Shinji's mind - Flashing psychological scenes)

Random voices (Asuka, Misato, etc.): I hate you.  I wouldn't be caught dead with you!  Don't get me wrong... Ok re VP Harris i feel like she's going to have a hard hill to climb whether she does everything PERFECTLY or not, right? This article and a few others I've been reading are not super optimistic about her ~~chances~~ bc she's been given the real shit jobs so far (immigration, crime, etc) which are all R hammering points. But I feel like that could actually be freeing? Im obsessed w the concept of the valley of political death where a politician can make a bold, morally superior move that initially craters them but after a couple of months ppl end up having a higher opinion of them?? I think that wrt Kamala Harris, her biggest issue is our country's polarization in addition to the fact that while she knows California politics down cold and I'm not diminishing her accomplishments as DA, attorney general, and senator, that isn't representative of the rest of the country. Don't get me wrong, if she's the presidential nominee, I'm campaigning for her as much as possible whether professionally or as a volunteer, but the fact remains, a large part of the country, including people that pulled the trigger for Biden, won't vote for a Black/Asian woman, especially those who voted Republican down ballot (Biden-Collins voters in Maine, I'm staring directly @ you).

Plus, the Biden administration is sealed tight (which is infuriating the DC press corps) and Kamala's corner always leaks like a sieve, which has been an issue she's had since the presidential primary. Also, Kamala quite frankly let her family play too much of a role in her presidential campaign like Maya and Meena Harris should not be employed by the campaign and Meena shouldn't be using her aunt's image to boost her clout as an influencer while also tweeting about defunding the police, which both Kamala and Biden have loudly disavowed. If you noticed, while Jill Biden and Michelle Obama and Bill/Hillary Clinton (depending on who was running) all campaigned for their spouses and did events, but none of them were employed by the campaign and none of them contradicted the nominee! And I don't trust Meena to do the same thing based on her Twitter persona.

I also think crime and immigration are Democrats' biggest red spots as a party simply because we keep letting our most liberal members on MSNBC every single night to yell about abolishing and defunding things so nothing Biden and Harris or any other elected Democrat says counteracts that. Max Rose, who repped Staten Island where all the NYC cops lived, got clobbered with defund the police despite the fact he's about as pro-cop as you can get for a Democrat. Again, we need to run a tighter ship in terms of messaging as a party and that's my bottom line. If that means banning certain people from being on cable news, so be it.

I talked about it before but I really think that Kamala needs to shore up support in the Blue Wall, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. Her being on the ticket actually helped with our Latino support although it still cratered from 2016 to 2020, but quite bluntly, we need to make sure she wins enough white men in swing states. That means putting a Midwestern Democrat on the ticket as VP (Pete Buttigieg, Gretchen Whitmer, Amy Klobuchar, Conor Lamb if he gets elected to the Senate), and that means parking herself down in the upper Midwest from the moment the primary is over until the general election. Honestly, I don't think a white and more moderate seeming female VP from the Midwest really hurts Kamala electorally given she herself is a progressive woman of color from California, but who knows, I may be wrong.

All that makes sense right? I'm not an expert but I've learned a lot about how conservative America is in the last year and it'd do people better to learn that sooner rather than later.

My thoughts on Dr. Stone’s Chapter 187 (“Cyber Guerilla”)

My thoughts after reading Chapter 187:

01. (CHAPTER PARALLEL.) Chapter 187 shares interesting similarities with Chapter 151 (the chapter right after “Dr. Taiju” spoke with Dr. Xeno) 😲 Both chapters have: (1.) a cunning, intelligent person in enemy hands who gave misleading information (Francois with Stanley, Gen with Dr. Xeno); (2.) both had combatants who intended to go out on their own mission (Kohaku to rescue Suika and the others; Yo/Magma/Mantle to be heroes; (3.) both showed warriors being sent out on a specific mission (Tsukasa/Hyoga/Ukyo/Suika to capture Dr. Xeno, Tsukasa/Hyoga to help Kohaku); (4.) both showed Hyoga providing information on what actions the enemy might take (build a pirate vessel to capture the Perseus / potentially harm Nikki and the others in Corn City); and (5.) both of their last pages showed that the kingdom of science was about to fight enemies who had very advanced guns 😲 Not all of them are exactly the same (Nikki stopped Yo, Magma, and Mantle from leaving / it wasn’t specified whether Tsukasa and Hyoga were sent to Kohaku or if they decided to follow her without being told to do so). But still, there are so many parallels… impressive! 😲😁

02. (ENEMY GROUP.) They know how to track footprints? I didn’t know they taught that in the army… then again, Stanley’s the only confirmed soldier, I think. Maybe he or Dr. Xeno or somebody else taught everybody how to do that? When we see the enemy through Kohaku Vision… there are SO MANY of them! 😲 Or, wait… is she imagining them moving and that’s why it looks like there’s a lot of them even though there are actually only four enemies? Like if you were to put still video frames on top of one another? How many people does Stanley’s group have? Did the enemy group just HAPPEN to stop that close to one of Chrome’s traps? Seems like a big coincidence to me… That “FOUND… YOU!” SO reminded me of Krone from The Promised Neverland! 😲 It was even in really creepy font and speech bubbles!)

03. (GEN.) Gen, wow! 😁 Gen and Kohaku haven’t been interacting THAT much lately, so I don’t really think of him when I think of Kohaku. And while I wish it were Senku who had thought of it first, at the same time, it makes SO much sense that Gen was the one who realized that Kohaku was likely to run off by herself to rescue Suika. The two of them go way back (she threatened him when they first met, and he saw from when they made the magnets how fast she was), and he was there when Kohaku wanted to rush off to defend Kinro (after he was stabbed by Hyoga), rescue Chrome from Tsukasa (when he was in the bamboo prison), and avenge Chrome’s broken statue during the Treasure Island arc. In fact, in that same chapter (Chapter 107) Gen and Kohaku’s wrists were connected with rope, and later on, Gen deduces what Kohaku meant with her wordless written message. Because they both have really strong connections with other characters, and because they both have their own very important roles in the kingdom of science, it’s easy to sleep on (or overlook) their own unique dynamic, but Kohaku knows just how talented Gen is, and Gen knows Kohaku well enough to be able to deduce her thoughts and predict her movements. Gen impressed me in this chapter, and what’s great is that his anticipating this makes so much sense because of the groundwork that’s come before. I’ll be paying MUCH closer attention to Gen and Kohaku’s interactions from now on, that’s for sure! 😲😊

04. (KOHAKU.) I like Kohaku so much and I’m so happy whenever I see her in chapters that I’m surprised the thought of her running off after they got the news didn’t cross my mind 😲 But it’s just like her to be so concerned for her comrades, especially Suika! 😊 As she said, finding them was easy peasy because of her eyesight :P It’s so cool how she was analyzing the different enemy soldiers and their functions (leader, comms man) and their physical positions and movements! 😊 And she probably knew that person was their communications guy because he had a pack on that was similar to what the kingdom of science made in the Stone Wars arc 😁 Her vision was shown as all black, with waves emanating from everybody… wow! 😲 It reminds me of sonograms or echolocation! She looks so happy to see Tsukasa and Hyoga, which is so funny given her histories with both of them 😆 (I was looking up past chapters while writing this and while I was searching for something about Hyoga in the Stone Wars arc, Kohaku’s short scene after Mirai was depetrified made me cry, like it has ten billion times before. I LOVE that scene…) In the next frame, where Hyoga is saying that they came prepared too, Kohaku looks cute 😊 Of course, after hearing about Hyoga’s hypothetical scenario, Kohaku’s worried for the others’ safety! 😭 She’s determined for them to at least destroy the transceiver before they “die,” but… I don’t want Kohaku to die!!! 😲😭 And after Maya finds them, Hyoga thinks they’re going to die, Tsukasa thinks they’re going to die, and… Kohaku thinks they’re going to die 😭 Kohaku’s gritting her teeth, and the thick line on the right side of her mouth makes it SORT of look like she’s confident and ready for battle, but usually when manga/anime characters grit their teeth and you can’t see their eyes, it’s a bad thing, right? Like they’re stressed or scared or about to cry? 😔 She looks much more confident on the next page when she talks about how she never imagined that the three of them would march into battle together 😊 But I’m still worried about them, especially Kohaku… 😔

05. (HYOGA.) Hyoga, who defied Kohaku’s expectations before when he helped her up like a gentleman, noticed that Kohaku was evaluating the enemy 😊 I don’t think he will, but imagine if Hyoga betrayed them at this critical juncture. They’re not using a cable car in the middle of nowhere anymore; he would be a very useful informant for Stanley AND Hyoga’s likely to get along with Dr. Xeno and Stanley’s group because they really do things properly 😲 He has a really good point about destroying the enemy’s transceiver! “Please think about it for a moment.” I can just imagine Hyoga saying that in a really posh, polite way (with “kudasai” at the end), even in the situation they’re in 😆 Of course, I could be totally wrong, haha! When Hyoga started talking about slicing off Dr. Xeno’s body parts… WOW 😲 And look at his eyes – they’re open JUST the TINIEST bit, which makes him look even more menacing – and that’s taking into account the previous page where him with his eyes open looked scary enough ALREADY… and he got creepy speech bubble borders to go with his chilling plans! When they heard what he said, Kohaku looked “whuuut,” but Tsukasa kind of seems like he’s rolling his eyes, like, “Ugh, here we go, he’s talking about slicing off fingers and toes, AGAIN…” 🙄 Hahaha! 😁 He’s not even really horrified or anything 😆

06. (SENKU.) Senku had his finger to his lips, like he wanted them to be quiet, even though they were firing a literal GUN 😆 And the plastic container thing was a good idea! 😊

07. (TSUKASA.) Tsukasa’s pretty familiar with twenty-first century fighting and warfare (he was a melee fighter back then, so he wasn’t using guns or anything, but he DID know what materials Senku needed for gunpowder), so he knows that their chances of defeating enemies with guns aren’t very high… 😔 Tsukasa knows combat theory… wow! 😲 Oh… I never thought of the Corn City people as hostages! 😔 Can somebody explain to me the advantages of using Tsukasa’s weapon? Um… I guess if you’re fighting somebody in front of you and somebody behind you, you can swing it at both of them? Or if you’re whirling into a group of enemies like a hurricane, it prevents anybody from reaching you?

08. (UKYO.) Ukyo looked so cute when he was holding up that fluffy boom microphone thing to record the gunshot sound 😁 And it’s cool to see him in his element (like him explaining sound effects in movies… to a stone age person like Chrome, of all people 😆 But to Senku too, I suppose, haha!) (and like him saying to layer the sounds on top of each other; very smart!), because his skill is really unique! 😊

09. (FINAL THOUGHTS.) I liked this chapter! 😁 Kohaku played a major role AND I got to see characters I know and care about (instead of getting so many no-text panels of the enemy group) AND those characters were conversing intelligently about their situation! 😊 But, at the end… the kingdom of science’s warriors three MOST POWERFUL WARRIORS, all three of them, are leaping down to battle enemies that ALREADY have GUNS pointed at them. GUNS! Held by PROFESSIONALS! How…? I mean… I know I shouldn’t worry. Hyoga’s too interesting a character to kill off now; Tsukasa has been in the story so long and had those moon-related conversations with Senku; and Kohaku has been such an important character since she made her first appearance – if I remember correctly, she’s only been far away from Senku twice since they met: her infiltration mission on Treasure Island and when she, Chrome, and Gen were looking for Dr. Xeno’s fortress. I KNOW Kohaku’s not going to die. I KNOW that. But… look at the situation they’re in!! 😭 They’re not civilians or prisoners of war… they’re combatants, and not only that, but they’re THE combatants who stormed Dr. Xeno’s fortress and captured him! There will be NO mercy for the enemy for these three! 😲 So… hmm… well, what’s coming to mind now is that if Hyoga pretends to betray them, he could buy them time… or will the Medusa be used? Either Senku’s group will petrify everybody fighting using Chrome’s trap (good thing he made those!), or Tsukasa and Hyoga actually have the Medusa with them right now (we saw Senku holding it, but he could have given it to them before they left) and it just hasn’t been revealed yet. Ah… okay, I feel better now 😊 There are ways that this can turn out fine, and we’ll all find out next week what happens next! 😁

You're going to need a text editor, both for editing the config files and for writing your CGI programs. You can get by with using TextEdit, Apple's free text editor. Or you may want to check out BBEdit or TextMate.

Who can see your website?

If you have a permanent, fixedIP address for your computer (e.g. your computer is in an office, or you have your own T1 line), your Apache server will be able to serve pages to anyone in the world*. If you have a transient IP address (e.g. you use a dialup modem, DSL modem or cable modem to connect to the internet), you can give people your temporary IP address and they can access yourpage using the IP address instead of a host name (e.g, http://209.189.198.102/)*.But when you logout, your server will obviously not be connected, and whenyou dial in again you'll probably have a different IP address.

Obviously for permanent web hosting, you should either get a fixed IPaddress (and your own domain name), or sign up with an ISP that can hostyour pages for you.

* Unless you're behind a firewall, and the firewall is not configured to allow web traffic through.

Programming Locally, then Uploading to the ISP

You may want to develop and debug your programs on your own computer, thenupload the final working versions to your ISP for permanent hosting. Since OS X is Unix, all of the programs shown in CGI Programming 101 should work seamlessly both on your Mac and on a remote Unix host/ISP.

Configuring Apache on Mac OS X

You need to modify the Apache configuration file to tell it where yourpages are, and enable CGI programs. The config file is located in /etc/apache2/httpd.conf. If you have BBEdit, use 'Open File By Name' from the File menu to specify the path to the file to edit. If you're using TextEdit or TextMate, use File->Open and then type Command-Shift-G to show the 'Go to Folder' window, then enter /etc/apache2 in the input box.

You can also use the Terminal application, then type sudo pico /etc/apache2/httpd.conf to edit the file. You'll be moved to a text editor inside of Terminal. Use the arrow keys to move around. Help and instructions on the pico editor will appear along the bottom of the window. When you're done editing, use control-X to quit out of pico (you'll be asked if you want to save the file or not).)

Once you have the httpd.conf file in your editor, use Find (⌘-F) to find 'AddHandler'. Uncomment the cgi-script line (remove the '#' that appears before this text):

This causes any file with a .cgi extension to be processed as a CGI program.If you want to also have files with a .pl extension be processed as CGI programs, add the .pl extension on that same line:

Now save the configuration file. (If you're using BBEdit, you'll be prompted for your system administrator password; this is required since the config file is owned by the root user.)

Edit the User File

You also need to modify the configuration file for your userid. Follow the same process as before: File->open then Command-Shift-G to open /etc/apache2/users. Look for the conf file for your userid (e.g. if your username is 'ted' then the file is named 'ted.conf'.) Open the file.

First you'll need to change the Options line to add some more parameters:

Options specifies what options are available in this directory. The important ones here are Indexes, which enables server-side includes, and ExecCGI, which enables CGI programs in this directory.

Start Apache

To restart Apache, go to the System Preferences panel and select the 'Sharing' icon:

Check 'Web Sharing' to start Apache. (You may have to click the lock in the lower left-hand corner to unlock the sharing panel and allow you to make changes.)

Once web sharing is on, the right side of the sharing panel will show you links to your mac's main web page (in the above example it's http://192.168.1.100/), as well as to your personal web area (your Sites folder). You can click on those links to confirm that Apache is running.

Viewing Your Site

http://localhost/ is thehomepage for your site; it shows the index.html (or more specifically index.html.en) page located in the /Library/WebServer/Documents folder. You can change the location for the server-wide files by changing the DocumentRoot directive in the httpd.conf file.

For developing your own pages and CGI programs, you'll want to use the Sites folder in your home directory. You can view pages in the Sites folder by looking at http://localhost/~yourusername/ in your browser. For example, my short username is 'kira', so the URL to my pages is http://localhost/~kira/. This displays the index.html file located in /Users/yourusername/Sites/. The 'Sites' folder in your home directory is where you can put all of your HTML and CGI programs.

Writing Your CGI Programs

Now you're ready to write some CGI programs! Here's a simple one you can useto get started. You can write this in your choice of text or Perl editor:

Save the file in your Sites folder as 'first.cgi', then go to http://localhost/~yourusername/first.cgi to view it.

If you get an 'Internal Server Error', that probably means you need to fix the permissions on the file. Launch the Terminal app (its in Applications->Utilities), type cd Sites, then chmod 755 first.cgi. We'll look at this (and other debugging techniques) in Chapter 1 of the book.

Now you're ready to go to Chapter 1 and start learning CGI programming.
