i see a lot of 13 yr olds on tumblr these days, so id like to share some advice i wish i had known using tumblr at age 13.

this is also probably not an original idea from me lol, someone has got to have done this before. i would usually put this under a cut but ive decided not to for now

be aware that this site is like NOTORIOUSLY harmful. you may think you’re above it or too mature for it to hurt you, but trust me, you aren’t. since you will probably not be stopped by that warning, maybe take some precautions/keep some stuff in mind to stay safe.

i had tumblr savior for my first experiences with the site. im pretty sure it still works and it’s regularly updated, so take a look into that. it blocks posts with certain keywords from being seen on your radar, and can also push/allow posts with other keywords to always be shown. i would advise getting it or a similar extension to custom block triggering/harmful content.

don’t put other/more popular users in your fandom/community on a pedestal. they’re people behind a blog, just like you are. don’t feel intimidated by the people in your own community, they are just people the same way you are a person. they can mess up at times, and so can you.

making friends is a great thing on this site, but keep an eye on new online friends’ behaviors. it is exciting to meet new people, but you want to be aware of toxic friends. same goes for your mutuals. overall, keep people on this site at an arm’s length until you’ve gotten to know them enough personally to know that they’re genuine people. as you get older you can relax on this, but as a young teen it’s better to be hyperaware than to be blissfully ignorant as you get hurt.

onto more broad things, your theme doesn’t have to be perfect. you dont have to make a custom html/edited html website theme for your blog, you can leave it as tumblr default. if you enjoy organizing that, then by all means go ahead! but don’t feel like it is necessary for your blog, most of the time you will get a new theme set up and check on it on a month and find that it actually looks terrible to you. if you’d rather just have it as a basic/default site, then that is perfectly normal.

your blog’s theme/topic is your choice, and can be uniquely you. some people have many blogs for many things, just a few, or just one with everything. it is up to you how you want to do it! the themes you choose, topics, are up to you. fads and trends are cool but finding what works for you personally is way more fun. your blog is supposed to be fun. you are supposed to enjoy using tumblr. don’t compromise that for a trend. make your blog(s) however you want, however it pleases you. it can feel pressuring to have a perfect blog, but it’s better to just make your appearance the way it would make you happy.

also, tag systems are awesome! but they are not necessary unless you’re tagging trigger warnings. always tag those! but i know a lot of people have personal tagging systems to organize their blog, which is totally cool! but again, personal tag systems are not necessary, and if they feel unnecessary to you, don’t use them. but again, tag triggering content, especially if you are asked to.

archiving/deleting/creating new blogs is a whole other process. some people like to start with a clean slate every time they switch to a new fandom, and let their old user be archived or deleted. this is perfectly respectable (and probably the right thing to do) personally, i just switch my blog over to whatever im feeling that month and people can unfollow if they no longer enjoy my blog (i dont have that big of a following on this blog). it’s really a personal decision, and if you want to restart your blog you will know when to/if you want to.

reblog art, but never “repost” it. aka dont take the image and post it on your own blog, just reblog it from the original poster. its common sense but not everyone knows? idk

if you end up having some or many followers, make sure to check yourself. appreciate your followers, respect them. they are people with blogs. just like you. don’t let a high number inflate your ego way out of proportion, it’s easy to fall into that sense of power.

respect people’s pronouns. even if you for some reason have a disagreement with them, or you don’t understand why/how their identity works, just use the correct pronouns that they ask you to. it costs you zero dollars and zero cents, and is incredibly respectful

as a young teen, don’t get involved/let yourself get buried in tumblr-wide discourse. examples of this include the bi vs pan debate, flag discourse etc. most ppl who i know who were attentive to things similar to that at a young age ended up being affected negatively by it. pay some attention to what pertains to you and also pay attention to what you can identify as right or wrong, but don’t let people’s opinions on your dash influence you in times of discourse. go and look at both sides of those kinds of debates if you’re interested, and form an opinion from there.

speaking of which, sometimes people will just post their takes on literally anything and youll come across it. take everything with a grain of salt unless there is links to proof (if applicable, not always needed). sometimes bad takes just havent had someone to reblog and disprove yet.

speaking of discourse, there is always discourse on this site in every fandom, every community. form your own opinions always, but keep your moral compass in mind. don’t compromise your morals and sense of right and wrong to enjoy certain fan-media. if something seems off, it probably is.

people make mistakes, and if someone did something kind of shitty/had a terrible take/belief (not irredemably shitty, those ppl do not need ur attention) and they genuinely apologize for the shit they did and learn from it, move on. leave some shit in the past, holding grudges isnt good for your mental health and people change. but again, always take things with a grain of salt.

you dont need a high follower count to get traction on your posts. it might help, but you can have a low follower count with high interaction or a high follower count with little to know interaction. the best advice i have is to tag what it is relevant to, whether it’s a fandom, aesthetic, etc and people who regularly check those tags will find it.

if you ever get anon hate for some reason, just delete it from ur inbox n move on. ppl who send anon hate want to see you post it and respond to it. if they said some really really MEAN shit though, it may be best to talk to a friend about it for comfort, or take a break from tumblr for a hot min. most importantly, report it, close your ask box/change it to no anonymous asks.

if at some point you choose to voice your opinion about a highly debated topic at the time, be aware that people who disagree might attack you for it. be aware, and be safe about it.

a lot of people swear by xkit. i have never used it in my life, but from the looks of it, it makes using tumblr so much more bearable. it breaks sometimes with tumblr updates, but apparently it’s worth it. again, look into it, but it’s not necessary to use the site.

do niche shit. start sideblogs without a plan in mind. make aus, make art, make writing, or make nothing at all. reblog the things you love wherever you want them to be reblogged. comment on people’s creations if you love them, they probably would love to hear how much you enjoyed it. appreciate how wonderful the better part of this site is, enjoy the free access to view and appreciate others’ creations and ideas.

Final Dex Holder Preference List, 1st Edition

Heh. These titles are getting long. Dex Holder Preference List, so the same thing I’ve been doing for a long while every now and then. Final because... Generation VIII started, and I can’t see myself staying around for Generation IX. The end is near. And 1st Edition because So-boy and Shi-girl are brand new, so this only has my first impressions on them. As I see more of their data, their position is bound to change. So this is the start of the final series of the list. Think of it like the “Final Battle” type chapters in the Pokemon Special arcs that end up being something like “Final (最終) Decisive (決) Battle (戰) IX” or some sh*t.

If I recall, when Y debuted, she was ranked 8. When Moon debuted, she also ranked 8. So... where would Shi-girl rank?!

Platinum (1) ... Duh. 晝夜長川, 初志一貫, as usual. I think this is the third time I used these phrases for Platinum’s ranking in the Preference Lists. Thankfully she didn’t appear in SM/USM for random ass bullsh*t, so nice dodge there!

Y (2) Also not going to change ever. Thankfully she didn’t appear in SM/USM for pointless random ass bullsh*t, so... another dodge! Now, while Y’s ranking hasn’t changed for years, the phrases I used for Platinum can’t be used here because it wasn’t consistent (一貫) from the very beginning (初).

Red (3) Same as Y. Good thing he didn’t show up in SM/USM. ... I recall saying that I was going to experiment with a more “brutal” Red. ... It’s incoming in an SC update. But the update is for the end of the year, so... have to wait.

Blue (4) ... Good thing she didn’t show up in SM/USM! If anyone in the top 4 did, they would’ve all fallen enough that they’d still be in the top 4 in this exact order. ... Wait, what? Heh. There’s that much of a gap between the 4th and 5th. And while Blue may be 4th, she’s honestly in the same ranking as Red. They’re like a single entity. Blue (女) and Red (子) livin’ together and even married in some chapters, and it’s good (好)!

Moon (5) The power of overhaul. She’s back into the Top Favorites! ... Not that her ranking has changed at all. The Spirit of Vengeance! Undying devotion to serve Platinum, and undying hatred for her enemies mixed in would be quite interesting to write about! ... If I ever get to doing it...

Emerald (7) I have to get used to the idea that after the overhaul, Emerald is the most combat effective Dex Holder among Generation III. ... Unless I choose to overhaul Ruby and Sapphire too, but... hm. Anyways. With the “new” overhaul a long ass time ago, he should be far more fun to use in battles. ... Whenever that’ll be.

Diamond (8) My interest in Heart is plummeting. But then again, my interest in all the others are plummeting too, so... I guess that’s pretty irrelevant. I feel like I could use him a lot more now that I’ve organized the headcanon chronology. And maybe I can come up with more headcanon entries as time passes! What if Platinum teaches him etiquette?

X (9) So close to being able to use him a lot more with Y in a cute and sweet setting and whatnot. I need to come up with more headcanon stuff for X & Y. Maybe he can teach her how to swim? ... Assuming he knows too? Can’t have both drowning at the same time. Heh.

Pearl (10) I want to focus a lot more on the united Sinnoh trio, where Diamond protects Platinum from closer while Pearl protects her by taking the offense. Like Platinum’s shield and sw... sigh...

Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot is desperate to get his hands on the Europa League trophy this season.

The Red Devils start their campaign at Old Trafford against Astana on Thursday – and Dalot wants a winning start.

“It’s a big competition, but not as big for this club,” Dalot told the United App. “This club needs to be in the Champions League every day, every year, winning the Champions League and in Portugal it’s a little but different.

“Of course it’s a big competition that if any team wins it’ll be a great achievement, but for this club when we are in it we just need to win it.”

Maddison meltdown

Manchester United fans are pleading with James Maddison to move to the Red Devils after he posted on Instagram with Old Trafford set as the location.

The 22-year-old’s post had no caption attached to it and the picture showed the midfielder playing at the Theatre of Dreams on Saturday for Leicester.

All pretty harmless but his post has sent United fans wild, with most pleading for the former Norwich man to follow his ex-team-mate Harry Maguire to Manchester.

One said: “Please force the move fella.” Another wrote: “You’re welcome here whenever.” Someone else went with: “You’ll be posting plenty of photos at Old Trafford next season pal.”

DDG savings?!

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has put pen to paper on a new four-year contract in a deal which may have saved the Red Devils a huge chunk of cash.

The Spaniard will be earning around £375,000-a-week, making him the club’s highest earner following the loan departure of Alexis Sanchez.

The goalkeeper will now stay at Old Trafford until at least June 2023 on his current contract, which will be worth £97.5m if the option of a fifth year is taken up, including add-ons, according to the Mirror.

United boss Solskjaer may have saved the club £100m in securing De Gea’s future, as he’d need to break the bank to sign a replacement.

United have agreed to spend £97.5m on De Gea’s contract, assuming he stays for the four years of his current deal, and the added one-year extension.

He’s a disgrace

Gary Neville has labelled Paul Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola a “disgrace” and believes the Frenchman is still ager to leave Manchester United.

“Pogba wants to leave. He has made it clear,” Neville told Norwegian TV. “His agent is a disgrace and has been a disgrace all over Europe – not just for Manchester United.

“They must stop working with him. He doesn’t have the values you want in your club. My opinion is that Manchester United need not negotiate with him.

“He will try to fix a transfer for his player, and will try to take part of the transfer sum himself. That’s how he operates.”

PSG star Neymar has admitted he wanted to join Barcelona during the transfer window for ‘personal reasons’.

“Everyone knows I wanted to leave,” he said. “I made it very clear. I won’t go into details though, because it affects others.

Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen is prepared to snub any contract offers from the club.

Eriksen, 27, was tipped to leave north London this summer with the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona all linked at some stage.

The Dane admitted he would like a fresh challenge elsewhere – but the deadline came and went with Eriksen failing to secure a transfer.

Now, Spanish newspaper Marca claim he’ll refuse any late approach from Tottenham to enable him to leave for free in the summer of 2020.

Arsenal look set to beat Manchester United to the signing of Sunderland teenager Logan Pye.

That’s according to The Sun, who claim Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side had been tracking the 15-year-old for some time.

It’s said the Gunners will ‘pounce’ during the next transfer window when Pye turns 16 and is eligible to sign a professional contract.

Pye, who can play centre-half or full-back, has mad five appearances for Sunderland’s Under-18 squad – netting once.

Matic to Juve?

Juventus are keen on bringing Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic to Serie A.

Matic failed to make an appearance under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season until Saturday’s win over Leicester.

But with Paul Pogba to return from injury, the Serbian will likely see his services reduced to bench duty once again.

And according to The Sun, Matic may not have to try his hand at cracking the first XI, as Juventus are in for his signature.

The report states that Matic’s lack of playing time for United has put Juve, who wanted to bring Pogba back to Turn, on alert for the Serb.

James Maddison & Jadon Sancho

James Maddison and Jadon Sancho are top of Manchester United’s wishlist.

That’s according to ESPN FC, who claim Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to bring the pair to Old Trafford next summer.

Maddison, 22, is thought to be valued at £80million by Leicester, while Borussia Dortmund’s Sancho could cost upwards of £100m.

Solskjaer’s side spent £150m on Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James last summer – and the Red Devils want to continue with the same transfer strategy.

David de Gea pens contract

David de Gea has signed a new four-year contract with Manchester United that will keep him at the club until June 2023.

The deal also includes the option to extend the contract for a further season.

De Gea told United’s official website: “It has been a privilege to spend eight years at this great club and the opportunity to continue my career at Manchester United is a genuine honour.

“Since I arrived here, I could never have imagined I would play over 350 games for this club. Now my future is fixed, all I want is to help this team achieve what I believe we can and win trophies again, together.”

Sandro Tonali – the new Pirlo

Manchester United are monitoring Brescia midfielder Sandro Tonali.

Italian publication Calciomercato claim United representatives were in attendance to watch him in action during Brescia’s 4-3 defeat to Bologna on Sunday.

Tonali, who has been compared to Andrea Pirlo by the Italian media, is also being assessed by European heavyweights Ajax and Borussia Dortmund.

“I hope Tonali remains in my hand as long as possible. If he wants to stay in Brescia, I am willing to keep him forever,” said Brescia president Massimo Cellino.

“No one has called me yet for him, but it is logical that everyone likes him”.

Dzeko wants Mkhi

Edin Dzeko wants Roma to sign Henrikh Mkhitaryan on a permanent basis.

The Armenia international arrived at Roma from Arsenal on a season-long loan and it didn’t take him long to settle in when scoring 22-minutes into his debut.

“I [expected the good performance] from him. I know him as a great player, and he is a very good addition to our attacking team who wants to play football,” Dzeko told reporters after the game.

“I am one 100% sure he is going to be a big help for us. I was definitely happy to see this transfer happen.”

Bayern Munich will try to sign RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner next summer.

That’s the opinion of ex-Germany midfielder Michael Ballack.

Werner, 23, has been linked with Atletico Madrid, Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund.

“He has expressed his gratitude to Leipzig with his contract extension. But I think next year a switch to Bayern could be on again,” Ballack told TZ.

6 NFL players on the verge of their best season yet

Free agency and shrewd draft moves have surrounded these six veterans with more talent than ever.

This offseason, several NFL players found new homes that could lead to major improvements in their games. Odell Beckham Jr. moved from Eli Manning’s aging passing game to Baker Mayfield’s deep ball extravaganza in Cleveland. Trey Flowers left New England’s rotation-heavy defense to reunite with his former defensive coordinator in Detroit. Nick Foles will get the opportunity to make 16 starts behind center for the first time in his career now that he’s a Jaguar.

Then there’s the flip side. Plenty of players benefitted from staying home, watching the supporting casts around them improve.

For instance, Jacksonville’s group of wideouts upgraded from Blake Bortles and Cody Kessler sailing passes over their heads to working with a Super Bowl MVP. Mayfield gets an All-Pro wideout to fling passes at indiscriminately, knowing there’s a non-negligible chance Beckham will catch it no matter where it goes. The entire Lions defensive front will get some extra opportunities to crash the pocket thanks to Flowers’ versatile presence.

But then there are the veterans who are just waiting for an opportunity to regain lost glory or reach their potential. These are the players primed for breakout and comeback seasons, set to reward the faith their teams have invested in them.

So who’s in line for a big 2019? Here are six veterans whose front offices have put them in line for a significant uptick.

DeVante Parker, WR, Dolphins

Since the start of 2019, Parker went from catching passes from checkdown masters Ryan Tannehill and Brock Osweiler (a combined 7.1 yards per attempt last fall) to deep ball lesser god Ryan Fitzpatrick (a league-leading 9.6 YPA). The results in training camp so far have been promising.

Parker’s inconsistencies have been endemic of the profile Miami was eager to cast aside. Despite carrying the pedigree of a first-round wideout with him into the league, he’s failed to match the numbers he put up over his final two seasons at Louisville. While he briefly emerged as a deep threat as a rookie in 2015 (19.0 yards per catch), his career has mostly stalled out thanks in part to his place in an offense that struggled to stretch the field.

Tannehill, a quarterback forged in the ether of limbo to be eternally stuck between good and bad, is gone. And although he wasn’t able to take advantage of Jarvis Landry’s absence last season, Parker will hear his number called more than ever now that he’s paired with a quarterback who prefers to look downfield rather than default to his slot wideout with regularity. The Dolphins recognized this potential, too. They extended him for two years and $10 million earlier this offseason.

If (or when) Fitzpatrick is replaced by second-year passer Josh Rosen, Parker will be the security blanket for a young, budding quarterback eager to prove himself — and who is capable of making throws like this:

Derek Carr, QB, Raiders

The bad news is Carr won’t have Marshawn Lynch to provide support — both moral and ground — in 2019. The good news is, holy crap, Jon Gruden just gave him a brand new toolbox with which to work.

Gruden resisted the temptation to replace a quarterback who emerged as an MVP candidate in 2016 and instead improved his team’s foundation around Carr. Donald Penn and rookie Kolton Miller made up one of the league’s worst tackle tandems last season, so Oakland released the veteran Penn, kept 2018 first-round pick Miller at left tackle, and brought Patriots left tackle Trent Brown to the West Coast with a record-setting contract to lock down the other side of the offensive line.

This extra time to throw — Carr was sacked a career-high 51 times in 2018 — will come in handy after the Raiders completely revamped their receiving corps. Out went Martavis Bryant, Seth Roberts, and Jordy Nelson. In came Tyrell Williams, J.J. Nelson, Ryan Grant, Hunter Renfrow, and, most importantly, Antonio Brown.

While the club’s lack of tight end help is concerning, Carr will now have a deep lineup of targets who can create windows of opportunity up and down the field. If he can’t regain his 2016 magic with this roster, he may never — and that could leave Gruden angling to replace his franchise quarterback before his team’s 2020 move to Las Vegas.

David Johnson, RB, Cardinals

Johnson emerged as an all-world multipurpose tailback in 2016, but injury, awful blocking, the league’s least-threatening passing offense, and the Cardinals’ amazing excess of gridiron malaise transformed him into bad-year Doug Martin last season. Arizona was unhappy with all of that, so it blew everything up and wagered its future on an offensive savant who’d just been fired as the 35-40 head coach of Texas Tech University: Kliff Kingsbury.

The 2019 Cardinals will be leaning hard into a rebuild, but it’s easy to see what Kingsbury has in mind for his latest project. After drafting Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray with the first-overall pick and adding pass catchers like Andy Isabella, Hakeem Butler, and KeeSean Johnson later in the draft, the first-year NFL head coach is assembling a limitation-free spread offense. He’ll allow Murray to take chances downfield and improvise mightily in and out of the pocket.

That creates a lot of space for a dual-threat back to thrive. Though Kingsbury only had one Red Raiders running back record more than 30 receptions in a single season (DeAndre Washington, who is currently part of the black-and-silver Raiders’ platoon), he’s also never had a weapon like Johnson to boost his offense. The former Northern Iowa standout broke out for 80 catches and 879 receiving yards while leading the league in yards from scrimmage in his monster 2016 season.

Now he’ll be the safety valve for a rookie quarterback who may need to make a whole bunch of short-yard snap decisions thanks to Arizona’s work-in-progress offensive line. That blocking could still be a problem, but Kingsbury’s spread offense and the keep-em-honest deep threats provided by Isabella and Butler should open up lanes for Johnson to thrive.

He’s also the top tailback on a depth chart that features T.J. Logan and Chase Edmonds, so he should get a lot of opportunities to prove he’s still an upper-tier runner.

Kyler Fackrell, LB, Packers

Fackrell set a career high with 10.5 sacks in 2018. This was impressive not only because it came in seven starts (over 16 games played), but because it came for a defense whose other primary edge threat was a 32-year-old Clay Matthews (3.5 sacks, 12 QB hits). It was also a bit of an anomaly, since Fackrell’s 12 QB hits suggest he wasn’t getting to the passer as much as your typical double-digit sack performer — Fletcher Cox, for instance, also had 10.5 sacks last season but contributed 34 QB hits as a master disruptor.

The fourth-year pro is now primed for a starting role at outside linebacker in 2019, and Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst has given Fackrell some much-needed support to keep his trajectory pointed upward. Green Bay made an extremely uncharacteristic splash in free agency by doling out $154 million in contracts for outside linebackers Preston Smith and Za’Darius Smith along with safety Adrian Amos. He’d later add former uber-recruit Rashan Gary in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft to round out his rebuild of the Packers’ pass rush.

This updated depth chart could push Fackrell out of the spotlight, but he’s already proven himself as a valuable rotation piece for a team with few real threats to contain. Now he’ll be flanked by players capable of occupying blockers and preventing scrambles and rollouts away from his pressure. While that may not lead to a new personal record when it comes to sacks, Fackrell should be a much more consistent presence in opponents’ backfields in 2019.

Myles Garrett, DE, and Larry Ogunjobi, DT, Browns

Third-year pros Garrett and Ogunjobi are hardly long-toothed veterans and both are coming off exceptional seasons. The addition of Olivier Vernon and Sheldon Richardson, a dynamic veteran duo set to lineup alongside them in Cleveland’s four-man front, will make them even more dangerous.

John Dorsey’s radical overhaul continued this spring as his Browns went above and beyond just stealing Beckham away. No team in the league can match the balance of pass-rushing power Cleveland will bring to the trenches behind a lineup that features four starters who combined for more than 30 sacks last fall. And now they’ll get more freedom than ever to baffle opposing linemen and quarterbacks thanks to the departure of rigid defensive coordinator Gregg Williams:

“I hopefully have more freedom to be the player I want to be,” Garrett told the media after a minicamp practice in Cleveland. “[Former defensive coordinator and interim head coach] Gregg [Williams] was more like: ‘You win with these two moves. I don’t want to see anything else out of you.’ It’s kind of hard with two moves. I feel like you can’t always be so predictable.”

Quarterbacks stepping up to avoid the edge pressure of Vernon and Garrett will only be pushed into the blocker-backpedaling force of Richardson and Ogunjobi. At 600 combined pounds, that pair will also be a hellacious combo to clear for runs up the middle. Their ability to absorb blockers should also create gaps for Christian Kirksey and Joe Schobert to excel as high-yield linebackers.

Pressure is going to burst through the Cleveland defensive front like a malfunctioning pressure cooker, and that chaos should lead to career bests across Freddie Kitchens’ roster.

This year: survival of the fittest at the Linc for 6-5 Washington and 5-6 Philadelphia. The Eagles have a ridiculous road to nine or 10 wins and a playoff prayer in their last five: Washington, at Dallas, at the Rams, Houston, at Washington. Not looking good.

End of the Mike McCarthy Era in Green Bay: Week 13 in the NFL - MMQB I think an appreciation of Jay Gruden is in order tonight. The Redskins coach survived the Robert Griffin III divorce and the Kirk Cousins fallout, and this year has kept the ship steady through a rash of injuries (RB Derrius Guice, G Shawn Lauvao, G Brandon Scherff, QB Alex Smith, etc.) So if anyone’s equipped to navigate a week infiltrated by the Reuben Foster waiver claim, it’s the younger Gruden brother. Tonight I think the Redskins, behind Colt McCoy, come out firing. And I think the Eagles, and Carson Wentz fire back with their second straight comeback win. My pick: Eagles 27, Redskins 24.

NFC Playoff Picture: Can the Eagles realistically be a wild card team? - BGN Week 13 of the 2018 NFL season featured a number of upsets. The results of some of those games actually helped the Philadelphia Eagles’ chances of making the playoffs, if only slightly. Let’s take a look at the updated NFC playoff picture.

All About the Run - Iggles Blitz The Skins are a running team. They are 13th in the league in rushing, only 25th in passing. This is a bit of an old school offense. The Eagles were great against the run for the first five games. As injuries mounted, the run defense began to struggle. They have allowed 135 rushing yards a game over the past six weeks. Not good. Breakdowns by DBs have hurt the run defense in recent weeks. Chandon Sullivan missed some crucial tackles on Sunday. Rasul Douglas missed a couple in the Dallas game. The defense tackled much better in the second half of the Giants game. That’s one of the ways they limited Eli and Co. The Eagles must tackle well this week.

That is really hard to believe when you consider the team won nine in a row during the 2017 regular season and then three in a row in the playoffs. One game at a time. A winning streak is built on winning moments. You can’t snap your fingers and conjure up four consecutive wins. You have to work diligently and focus on the task at hand. As much grief as we all give Alex Smith for being such a risk-averse quarterback, it was this style of football that kept Washington in multiple close games this season, relying on a defense that ranks fourth in the NFL in takeaways. If the Redskins could eliminate mistakes, then their opponents would eventually make them and offer opportunities to capitalize. McCoy certainly gutted it out on Thanksgiving, but he wasn’t able to take care of the football the way Smith can. He threw three interceptions and fumbled once. I’m not sure we have any reason to trust McCoy in Philadelphia’s cold and wind Monday night against a superior team still vying for a division crown in the NFC East. I made a half-sized wager on the Eagles at -6, and would add more to my bet sizing if this were to drop below -6.

The five most intriguing NFL games of Week 13 - The Athletic The Eagles’ offensive line against Washington’s front seven. During last year’s Super Bowl season, the Eagles’ offensive line was arguably the best in the NFL. Because of injuries and inconsistent play, that hasn’t been the case this year. But in last week’s win over the Giants, the line played well. Tackles Lane Johnson and Jason Peters appear to be healthier than they’ve been all season. Washington has a good pass rush and will throw plenty of different blitz packages at Carson Wentz. If the offensive line can hold its own, the Eagles should be able to run the ball efficiently, and Wentz should have time to move the ball through the air.

Eagles’ Nelson Agholor bringing awareness to Camden-based literacy program - NJ.com The NFL’s annual My Cause, My Cleats campaign enables individual players to highlight charitable causes through the use of their footwear. In Week 13, several Eagles players will wear cleats designed to raise awareness for causes that are important to them. Agholor has partnered with PDQ on a year-long initiative called “Building Reading Muscles.” According to a press release, the program encourages Camden City School District “students to meet reading goals throughout the school year.” “Obviously, it’s all about literacy to me,” Agholor told NJ Advance Media on Friday. “I just want to bring attention to the kids in Camden and the efforts to help those kids read at a higher level, help their graduation rate and help them progress.”

Apparently we could be looking at past this next game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Mike McCarthy fired as head coach of the Green Bay Packers - Acme Packing Company It finally became too much for Mark Murphy and the folks in charge at 1265 Lambeau Field. Mike McCarthy is out as head coach of the Green Bay Packers. The team announced the move on Sunday evening, following their 20-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. McCarthy spent nearly 13 years as the head coach of the Packers, putting up an overall record of 125-77-2 for a total winning percentage of 0.621. That span included nine winning seasons and eight years with 10 or more wins, as well as six division titles. The Packers made four NFC Championship Games during his tenure, going 1-3, and they won Super Bowl XLV following the 2010 season.

The NFL Promised It Would Change. The Kareem Hunt Failure Proves It Hasn’t. - Ringer The Kansas City Chiefs released the running back on Friday, but only after TMZ published a video showing Hunt shoving and kicking a woman in February. That it took until now for the league and team to take public action is a betrayal of everyone who’s made the mistake of taking the NFL at its word.

We’re Back!!!! The 2019 College Football Season is upon us, and your humble correspondents have returned. Yes, Scott Criscuolo & Logan Crosland will give you a recap of the previous week’s games and look ahead to the big games the following week. Clemson is your defending National Champion, and they’re likely going to be back in the Playoff this year, along with Alabama. Will we see yet ANOTHER championship game between the Tigers & the Tide. Will former Bama QB Jalen Hurts spoil things and get Oklahoma back to the Playoff. Can Notre Dame get back and perhaps actually WIN a playoff game? We begin here. Let’s get started with the Week 1 takes.

LOGAN:

SEC Struggles to Open Year: One of the big things that stood out to me on opening weekend, is that outside of maybe 3 teams the superpower that is the SEC struggled mightily. Even teams who ended up winning like Florida, Alabama, Mississippi State, and Kentucky struggled through at least portions of their respective games and though they might’ve won it was ugly at times. Then their are the teams that lost to what was perceived to be lesser competition such as Ole Miss, Missouri, Tennessee, and South Carolina. South Carolina is the most excusable one of those as North Carolina is a power conference team, so they were at least a little stiffer competition. Tennessee on the other hand met, lost, and pretty much got dominated by lowly Georgia State, while Ole Miss and Mississippi lost to Memphis and Wyoming respectively. While most of the struggles can be attributed first week jitters, the conference better kick things into gear if it wants to continue its dominance.

Auburn Wins a Thriller Behind Freshman QB: In what was probably the best game of the first weekend, the Auburn Tigers took on the Oregon Ducks. A lot of the hype coming into this game was surrounding the QB matchup between projected early first round pick Justin Herbert and true freshman Bo Nix. While it looked like the experienced Ducks and Herbert were going to run away with this game, it was young Bo who was able to lead his team back late from the brink of defeat. The defense for these Tigers are going to be able to win them a lot of games, but if Bo can show the poise he did in this game they could be dangerous. The Ducks on the other hand, while this doesn’t completely sink their season, the room for error has shrunk significantly.

Iowa State Escapes in Triple OT: The Cyclones come into this season with much more hype than usual and have expectations of contending for the Big 12 title with the likes of Oklahoma and Texas. With Northern Iowa coming to Ames, I won’t say they were expecting a walkover but definitely weren’t prepared for fight they ended up getting. Northern Iowa hung around and even led most of this game. Iowa State made a late field goal to force overtime. During the third overtime Northern Iowa had a chance to win the game when Iowa St RB Sheldon Croney fumbled at the goal line, before QB Brock Purdy dove on the ball to save the game for his team. Croney would make up for his mistake and score the game winning touchdown on the very next play. The Cyclones were able to avoid disaster this week but will need to clean things up if they want to be players in the Big 12.

Oklahoma…Heisman 3 Peat?: Before I say anything else I am not beginning to say anyone is a Heisman front runner one week into the season. With that out of the way, Jalen Hurts in his first game for the Sooners, that neither of their consecutive Heisman winners Baker Mayfield or Kyler Murray did. That feat was scoring 6 total touchdowns in just 3 quarters of play. With his experience in big games and talent, if he continues to put up numbers like these he’ll be in the mix for that coveted trophy and could give Oklahoma their third consecutive winner.

Boise State Pulls One Out: Ever since Boise State emerged on the scene in the early 2000s, they have been a dangerous team for anyone power program that schedules them. While in more recent years they haven’t pulled as many upsets as they may have at one time, they are always very well coached and a hard out. This weekend’s game against Florida State was originally scheduled to be played in Jacksonville but was moved to Tallahassee due to weather. So for Boise this went from being a neutral site game to being a true road game, which puts them at a little bit more of a disadvantage. Add on top of that, they started a true freshman at QB. They were able to overcome both of those odds, as well as a rough first half, to pull of the huge road win against the Seminoles 36-31.

SCOTT:

Easy opener for the Champs: Travis Etienne spent all offseason trying to ignore the national attention headed his way. Well after last Thursday he won’t be hard to find. The reigning ACC player of the year rushed for a career-high 205 yards and three touchdowns, including one from 90 yards out, as Clemson overpowered Georgia Tech 52-14 to open defense of their championship. Trevor Lawrence was average in this one, going 13 of 23 for 168 yards, but honestly it didn’t matter. The defense played great and everything clicked. It will have to click next week, because Jimbo Fisher’s Texas A&M Aggies aren’t Georgia Tech.

Typical ND…start awful, finish strong: As usual with Notre Dame in an opening night prime time game, they start lousy and finish strong. The crowd at Louisville was pumped and ready for the Scott Satterfield Era. The offense was hot and the intensity was there and with 2 minutes to go in the half it was 14-14, but a turnover led to a late ND touchdown and the defense held firm in the second half. The Irish win 35-17 and Ian Book threw and ran for a TD. He struggled early as he wasn’t comfortable in the pocket and his throws were all over the place. But Brian Kelly settled him down and he was fine after that. A bye this week, then the home opener next week against New Mexico.

Scott Frost’s new slate: Scott Frost is going to do his best to try and get Nebraska back to the top of the heap and not be a doormat like they’ve been pretty much since they left the Big 12. Well the jury is still out after Week 1. Yes they defeated South Alabama 35-21, but it was only 14-7 at the half and the offense was sluggish throughout. Not quite sure of the Black Shirts defense has returned but they did play very well and forced five turnovers. But the Huskers turned the ball over three times themselves. Adrian Martinez didn’t sparkle and has more to prove. They hit the road this week to face Colorado in an old Big 8 rivalry.

79 points????: For the first time ever, two conferences teams score over 70 points in the same week. Penn State destroyed Idaho 79-7, while Maryland crushed Howard 79-0. I…just wanted to point that out.

Academies Update: As in past years, Scott will update how the three Service Academies do on a week-by-week basis. Army won the CID trophy for the second straight year in 2018, and opened the year with a lackluster 14-7 win over Rice. Navy struggled last year, but opened Saturday with a 45-7 win over Holy Cross. Air Force also opens with a win, 48-7 over Colgate. This week Army is at Michigan, while both Navy and Air Force has byes.

No rankings yet, as the CFP poll won’t be for another month or so. Let’s just dive into this week’s schedule and take a look at the biggest games:

Auburn landed four commitments this past week and are hoping for a few more before the season starts.

Finally, things are starting to heat up on the recruiting trail for the Tigers. Auburn went two long months without a commitment but since then have reeled in six commitments with four coming in the past week. I will let Gus Malzahn speak for us all

Here’s a quick rundown on Auburn’s four most recent commits.

Auburn Lands First 2019 Commitment

It sounds like even the coaching staff was shocked when 4* WR George Pickens committed to the Tigers this past Friday. It was a welcomed surprise I am sure, as the 6’5” 190 lb Hoover wideout is expected to be one of the top players in the 2019 class.

“They were very happy. Coach (Gus) Malzahn was like, ‘Are you serious?'” Pickens said. “I’m very glad that I just committed to Auburn. Auburn is a great campus. I feel really good about the school I chose. I feel very comfortable around here.”

Last Friday was Auburn’s last camp of the summer and Josh Marsh made the absolute most of it. The tackle machine out of Decatur apparently impressed the coaching staff enough to land an offer. Marsh, an admitted Auburn fan, committed immediately. I incorrectly guessed that he would be a Buck or maybe grow into a defensive end but it sounds like he will play more as a hybrid linebacker/safety for the Tigers.

"I was kind of speechless and didn't know what to say," Marsh said. "He got up to walk out of the room and see if coach Steele was ready for me. I was with my mom and dad and said, 'I want to commit, but I don't know how this works.' They were like, 'Neither do we; we've never been in this situation. Just tell him.' Coach came back and we started talking and I said, 'I want to come play ball here. I want to commit.' He was taken off guard a little bit. He was like, 'OK, I'll go talk to the other coaches, and after today's over, I'll tweet out a 'Boom'.' "

I don’t know why but the line “I’ll tweet out a `Boom`.” is hilarious to me...

Tigers Snag A Top Linebacker Target

Harris is a boss. Like I said when he committed, I think he’s the best linebacker in the southeast. He was a top target for Auburn’s coaching staff. Harris, in an interview with Keith Niebuhr earlier this year, said that Travis Williams specifically said he was targeting him and 4* Zakoby McClain. T-WILL is halfway there. Williams played a huge role in this commitment:

“Coach T-Will checks with me every day. I send a text. He sends one right back. He treats me like I’m his own child,” Harris said after his most recent visit. “After me texting coach T-Will, man, he gives me the same amount of love every time or even more. When I come visit, every time I come, it’s more and more love. It’s like I’m always a part of the family. They already treat me like I’m a War Eagle, and I like that.”

It became apparent that after the evaluation period, Jamien Sherwood was a high priority target for the Tigers. In fact, I feel comfortable saying that Quindarious Monday and Jamien Sherwood are Greg Brown’s top guys at safety. He got them both. For Sherwood, the Tigers had to beat out Florida and this past weekend’s visit helped seal the deal:

“This past weekend really kinda sealed the deal. This past weekend just sealed the deal for me. I just knew that I want to go there,” Sherwood said. “It was a hard decision for me to choose from those two schools. Those were my top schools (Auburn and Florida). Those two were neck-and-neck. Besides the football part, I just felt like I could be at Auburn more. That’s what separated Florida and Auburn. They were my top two, and they were right there.”

Commitments weren’t the only news of the week. The Tigers had plenty of top targets on campus this past week with most arriving for the cookout event on Saturday. However, the Thursday before the event, two of Auburn’s most coveted targets visited in 4* OG Trey Hill and 4* LB JJ Peterson. It appears the Tigers have work to do on both but I also think Auburn is a bigger threat for both than some may think, especially Hill.

Saturday though was the big day. Auburn hosted a Big Cat Weekend part 2 that was apparently even more informal than the first. The focus was on building further relationships with top targets. Keith Niebuhr of 247 had a free play by play thread for the event that’s worth a read if you want to get a feel of how the day went. That’s quite the group. The big name that should stand out is 4* LB Quay Walker. It’s not often Alabama commits visit Auburn after committing but even more rare to be decked out in AU gear as Walker reportedly was Saturday. There seems to be some rumblings that Walker might not be all that solid and the Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs are making a push. Definitely a recruitment to follow.

This was also important visits for 4* RB Asa Martin and 4* DE Andres Fox. Martin is planning on committing August 24th and with the dead period approaching this was one of his last chances to visit AU before he commits. He was in Alabama the previous day for their cookout event so it was incredibly important for Auburn to get him on campus. The Tide are the trendy pick for Martin but again I don’t think you should count Auburn completely out in this hunt.

Fox, meanwhile, has decided to push back his decision timeline. After his Alabama visit, he announced that he had a top 2 of Auburn and Alabama. That’s a bit of a surprise as LSU was long considered Auburn’s top competition with some LSU insiders even thinking the Bayou Bengals lead. With Caleb Tannor committing to Georgia this past week (another recruitment that might not be completely over though), landing Fox has become even more important for this Auburn coaching staff.

Overall, it sounds like it was another successful event for the Tigers. There were a few disappointing no shows in guys like 4* WR Matthew Hill (sick), 4* LB Zakoby McClain (could not get back from West Virginia in time) and 4* Buck Richard Jibunor (practice) but for the most part, Auburn got the guys they needed to get on campus. No commits went public that day but both Harris and Sherwood silently committed at the event and went public a few days later. Hard to complain about a 4 commit week.

New Offers

With the Tigers having their last camp of the summer, there were quite a few offers that went out this past week. One name in particular might be someone Tiger fans should keep a close eye on in the coming months.

3* DE Kayode Oladele - Nigerian natives are becoming a theme in Auburn recruiting. Prince Tega Wanogho, Prince Sammons, Richard Jibunor and now Oladele. He’s a bit raw but man he’s got some serious upside. At 6’5” 238 lbs he’s got some of the best bend I have seen in this class as a pass rusher and could easily fill out that frame and play at 260+ lbs. If things go sideways with Andres Fox, don’t be shocked if this kid becomes a top target.

3* OT Jalen Goss - AU is still searching hard for some offensive tackles this class and Goss is another name to add to the list. The former Florida commit has great size but will need some time to develop at the next level. Another name to track in the coming months.

3* CB Jamari Brown - This is the name to keep an eye on. Brown is a tall CB prospect at 6’3” 180 lbs and he impressed the coaching staff Friday earning an offer. He also happens to be Junior Rosegreen’s nephew. If he’s anything like his uncle, sign me up. Auburn’s CB recruiting has been a mystery at times this year but after this weekend it seems Brown and Derek Turner are names to watch.

2020 WR Deajaun McDougle - Besides having an awesome name, I don’t really know much about McDougle as I couldn’t find much tape on him. Suffice it to say, if Auburn is offering a rising sophomore, he can probably play.

2020 WR Dazalin Worsham - Hewitt-Trussville is absolutely loaded with talent and Worsham has a chance to be one of the best of the bunch. He’s a threat to score every play and has a nice combination of length and speed. Explosive is probably the best description. Will be a top player in 2020

2020 LB Quanderrius Robinson - The Tigers are looking to build a pipeline in Jackson-Olin. They landed Tadarian Moultry in 2017, pushing for Coynis Miller in 2018 and now have offered Robinson for the 2020 class. Not a ton of tape available on this kid but will apparently play safety in the fall though his future is at linebacker.

This was another long post but it was a busy week. The Tigers are finally starting to see some dominoes fall and according to Shaun Shivers, more are expected.

What’s gone and what is yet to come.... Part 1

It’s been a tough season, there’s no doubt about that. At the start of the season, most, if not all of us had dreams of tearing the league apart with Emmanuel-Thomas ripping defences to shreds as we stormed to promotion. The reality of standing in Northampton’s away stand hanging on to every word of every twitter update from Fleetwood Town, in order to ensure we didn’t have to spend the next 3 months planning trips to Morecambe and Accrington, wasn’t quite what was expected. 

In part’s 1,2 and 3 of this blog, we see the opinion of various Gills fans who have answered 5 key questions 

Question: Your thoughts on… The season just gone? How would you rate it? Your favourite moment? Your POTY? Undervalued POTY?

@EdSteele2 - Not great, we shouldn’t have ever been near the relegation zone. Although we overachieved last season we really underachieved this season. Poor recruitment in particular is to blame; Rating - 2/10; Favourite Moment - Beating Watford and Mark Byrne’s goal against them; POTY - Josh Wright; Undervalued POTY - Mark Byrne

@Truebluejock - Well the season lurched from mediocrity to disaster. What was most disappointing is we started so well. JET looking like a player who could rip up the league and back up Scally’s promotion boasts plus a win away at Watford. But it unraveled so fast and frankly some of what happened was unprofessional. The sterile & limp “effort” at Spurs, the high profile signings of JET, O’Hara and Konchesky all departed quickly, non clean sheets, signing ineligible players, the season ticket debacle, court case and now Donnelly. It’s a miracle we stayed up!

Highlights were few and far between. The win at Watford, good result at Sheff Utd, Cody’s double against Rovers and staying up (ironically with a clean sheet).

I personally would have scrapped player of the year. Wright only played for 4 months, Cody similar. I think Nelson despite errors won us more points than he lost us so shades a bad bunch. As for underrated I thought Byrne finished strongly and frankly was one of the better players in the last few games. Hopefully a springboard for next season.

@Naylor94 - Woeful, horrible to watch and I’m frankly relieved it’s over. Favourite moment would have to be the Watford game which was the only real shining light of the season. Also the away trip to Tottenham was a fantastic day for me personally regardless of the result. POTY - Josh Wright. Undervalued player - Mark Byrne

@TheGatorGood - Season as a whole was a disaster, and we were lucky to stay up. It started with so much promise but Edinburgh’s purchases have proven to be lousy. JET typified what was wrong with this year - we moved away from being a blue-collar team, for form over substance. When it went right, it was great (his goal at Shrewsbury was my personal highlight) but the low point was watching the team get bullied at Oldham. Physically and spiritually outmatched, which is so ‘un-Gillingham’. Too much hoofball and defensively the worst I’ve seen this team in decades. Also very humbling to get smacked by a non - league team (again) in the cup on Live TV...

POTY for me has to be Wright - 13 goals from midfield in the league is invaluable. Undervalued POTY was probably Nelson for me - without some of his heroics (again), we’d have been relegated. 

Question: Your thoughts on... The decision to sack Justin Edinburgh and the appointment of Ady Pennock? Where would we have finished with JED still in charge?

@EdSteele2 - Sacking JED had to be done. We were free falling and he wasn’t changing anything. He was overly negative and appeared not to care too much at the end. Ady was only brought in as Scally couldn’t be bothered to have a proper search for a manager. If JED had stayed in charge then I still think we would have been exactly the same.

@Truebluejock - I think the mood and atmosphere meant JED had to go. Add in poor transfer dealings (JET, Konchesky & O’Hara) and no defensive cover and you cannot really with a straight face defend him. I think we would have finished a little higher under JED but no one expected us to replace him with Pennock. Not an upgrade and it showed. Naive tactically and looked out of his depth and broken at the end. Will we keep him? No I doubt it very much

@Naylor94 - Decision to sack JE was made at a strange time for me. November would have been the ideal time for him to go but form actually picked up from then until his sacking. Pennock didn’t improve us and I’m still not convinced he’s the right man for the job although I appreciate there have been significant other factors that haven’t helped him during his time. If JE had stayed I predict we would have finished 18th above Bury and Shrewsbury 

@TheGatorGood - Decision to sack Edinburgh was 100% right. Edinburgh showed no ability to fix the problems he created, or motivate the players he signed. The Pennock decision was a gamble (which I reluctantly came around to at the time) but proved a poor one. That said, short term deal means Scally now has time to get the right guy. No harm, no foul now that we aren’t relegated. With Edinburgh, I’m unconvinced we’d have finished much, if any, higher.  

Question: Your thoughts on... The retained list - Who should stay and who should go?

@EdSteele2 - Keep - Cody, Zesh, Parker

Keep those under 21 and loan them out for proper first team experience

Release - Jackson, Herd, Osadebe, Muldoon, Donnelly

@Truebluejock - On the retained list I would happily let everyone go including Cody & Parker who are the only two who would remotely warrant new deals. 

@Naylor94 - Keep: Cody, Osadebe, List, Parker. Jackson would offer a 1 year deal but can see him joining Northampton. Would invite Rehman and Dickenson back for preseason but only make a decision then. Release: Herd, Donnelly, Muldoon, Newcombe. Send back both Bournemouth boys. Think it might be a good idea to go in for Oshilaja permanently but he may also get offers from elsewhere. 

@TheGatorGood - Cody is absolutely critical to re-sign. He’s our only established striker. Also Ryan Jackson, providing he’s there to play at RB or RWB. Others I’d sign for depth - List (who I like, he’s direct and still think he could grow), Dickenson for depth and Osadebe - I know he has his detractors but I would like to see him in central midfield more before I conclude. We need some more workhorse types. Not sure there’s anyone else I’d say we should definitely re-sign. Need a blank canvas for a new manager.

Question: Your thoughts on... Potential sales of Bradley Dack and Josh Wright - Time to move on? How much are they worth?

@EdSteele2 - Wright needs to be kept, he is a terrific midfielder and is a fantastic team player and without him we would have been relegated so he needs to stay. I’d say sell Dack. The club needs the money and he hasn’t been the same player this season. We could perhaps get £1m maximum for him after this season but then we could bring in 3 decent players for that money.

@Truebluejock - I’m convinced both Dack and Wright will be sold. JED spent the budget & the court case mean money must be tight. The two year season ticket deals suggest that to me. We will get around £1m combined and maybe £1.5m if Scally can play hard ball

@Naylor94 - I personally think it’s time to sell Dack. Towards the end of the season you could tell from his body language he was constantly frustrated with the rest of the team and for himself, he needs to move on to further his career. If we can get 7 figures for him then great. 

As for Josh Wright it depends for me on how much we can get for Dack. I would rather Wright stayed however as he’s clearly somebody that the dressing room needs and seems to be more flexible for different formations than Dack is. 

@TheGatorGood - Would prefer to retain Dack (to build around) but would have a heart-to-heart with him first. If he wants to leave, I’d reluctantly allow it to happen. Reckon his value is around £1m after this year. Wright likewise, would like to retain but he had a good year and if a Championship club approached, I’d be open to him leaving. Maybe 200K?

Question: Your thoughts on... Your top pick for manager next season? If it isn’t Ady, then would you be adverse to him sticking around as part of the coaching staff?

@EdSteele2 -  Kenny Jackett really is the man for the job. It would be a big coup for the club and he did brilliantly at Millwall and Wolves. With Jackett in charge you can see the club rising. I’d keep Ady and let him implement some structures to the club. He loves the club and would be a great choice to put in the structure that he knows we clearly need. A director of football role would be great for him. 

@Truebluejock - If the above is true we will not attract Jackett, Powell, Cotteril et al. Wages and budget suggest that. I think Scally will go for an experienced coach and sticking with what he knows maybe Pennock will get a chance after all or someone like Hendon. Short term I think we will continue to struggle and will be where we ended up, bottom end of the league short term. I just hope that if this is the case M’Bo, Oldaker, O’Mara etc. get an opportunity. 

I wish I could be more optimistic, but the signs aren’t good.

@Naylor94 - As for manager next season I would be extremely happy with either Kenny Jackett or Chris Powell. I personally would expect to see Steve Lovell & Jamie Day stay on regardless of who the new manager is but either Jackett or Powell should be able to lead us in the direction that the club needs to go. Pennock may be better suited for the number 2 role but I personally can’t see him agreeing to be 2nd fiddle to another manager. If AP is in charge at the start of the season then I will back him as I do with any other manager but frankly I’m not convinced that it will be a successful move for Gillingham FC. 

@TheGatorGood - Can’t be Ady next year. Nice guy, passionate but not the answer. Tactically,some bizarre decision making. My pick would be an experienced, connected guy with a previous track record. I would try to pry Steve Cotteril from Birmingham where he’s assistant manager - If not, it needs to be someone of that pedigree rather than a re-tread if we are to move forwards. Wouldn’t be adverse to him sticking around but think that’s unlikely now he’s held the keys to the car...

Dex Holder Preference List, New-VI

It’s been over 7 months since the last one. There haven’t been too significant of a change, but some changes have been made in the mid-to-low ranks.

Top Favorites

Platinum (1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1) 晝夜長川, 初志一貫. This one is probably never going to change. She’s cute, smart, very kind and sweet (post development), very strong especially with a team overhaul, and is the staple of most of the important character bonds in all of my stories. And best of all, she had character development to reach this point in her personality, so her sweetness is not boring! And with a relatively new “discovery” that she had canonically blushed in DPPt... expect more of that sweetness in future chapters!

Y (2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2) The XY arc really kind of... f*cked her in terms of... well, pretty much everything. Got no Flying types except for the one she started with, didn’t even fully evolve said bird, caught the NPC Mega which is horsesh*t, Xerneas which is amazing but a temporary capture, uses a Rhyhorn which isn’t hers and is not for combat, and worse of all, the arc did not allow her to have a character development. But suddenly, overhaul her team and then put her in as a junior Dex Holder who does not have to shoulder all the burden by herself and now there are a lot of more interesting character progression possibilities! Y has a bit of a temper, which can lead to a bit of an aggression. Her overhauled team is very aggressive, which certainly adds to it. She’s also probably the most physically agile while making sense, which makes her very fun to use. Working with Platinum, Y can serve as her fist, pretty much, becoming the vanguard of the group, being the sword to Platinum’s shield. ... Again, with Generation VIII coming, I need to use a different comparison...

Red (3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3) With the other guy banished into the void for eternity, the Dex Holder leader role naturally falls upon him and Blue, but with Blue more reluctant to be in the lead, it’s up to Red. But he’ll be working with her at all times anyways, for a joint-leadership, basically. And this is quite better than having just one guy being in charge. Red takes the part of commanding respect and admiration, basically, as he’s quite a nice guy overall, and... well, he’s freaking Red. He works well with pretty much every junior, and given the sheer amount of junior Dex Holder focus I give, he’s naturally involved quite a lot being nice and helpful to them.

Blue (4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4) The one of two Dex Holders whose personality and background is pretty similar to mine, so a lot of my own traits have gone into her. The other Dex Holder being Platinum, but it’s like 80% Blue and 20% Platinum, so... mostly Blue. In that joint-leadership thingy with Red, Blue takes the role of... the brains, pretty much. She’ll do most of the thinking, and guide Red in the right direction, and she’ll do her best to support him. With an overhauled team, she’d fare much better in said support, and even when doing something solo. Now, she’s ranked below Red because of the junior focus. While Blue is very kind in her own way, she does have a bit of... darkness to her complexion/personality, which does not work too well with a deeper senior-junior relationship. In short, some juniors might be a bit scared to try to get too close.

Light Preferences

Moon (5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5) ... I should look for a USM portrait soon. ... Anyways. Moon lost her place in the Top Favorites, but not her ranking number. It’s because... well, SM/USM... is not really that... good? In short, I sense an impending disaster for that arc. Disaster as in “why the f*ck did the creators do this meaningless bullsh*t?” Now, while that may not have anything to do with Moon, it serves as a factor in what may lead to her decline in preference. She currently doesn’t have a lot holding her in place here. Her personality is... well... not really that fun to use. Her bond with Platinum is currently just a headcanon that may be shot to hell shortly which is very bad for her preference ranking, her team is weird at best, hasn’t caught a single new thing, or evolved anything on screen, etc. The biggest factors for her ranking is the fact that she may have a canon bond with Platinum, and that she’s the only healer that makes sense, and is the youngest junior, therefore the weakest, and thus the furthest from being “invulnerable”. It’s much more interesting to write with characters who are struggling with what they have to deal with, instead of “no problem, I can do everything”.

Emerald (6, 7, 6, 7, 6, 6) Even though MANY people don’t like him, Emerald is... quite good and fun to use. He’s cunning and a damn good battler, made even better with a team overhaul that sacked his bullsh*t repeat Pokemon. Now he should be much more useful in combat, which is great, since the other two Hoenn Dex Holders... I’ll get to that in a bit.

Diamond (8, 9, 8, 6, 7, 7) Admittedly, Diamond’s personality is quite... boring. The only thing holding him up here is the fact that he’s just such a sweet guy, especially to Platinum. And now, with his team updated, he should fare much better in protecting her, and will actually accomplish something in said protection. He’s not worth much if Platinum can protect herself better with her overhauled team. He will serve as her shield... er... ... portable wall? ... Why did Generation VIII have to be called Sword and Shield anyways? Blech. Anyways, he’ll protect her at all costs, and will even be useful as someone Platinum can lean on for emotional support.

White (7, 6, 7, 10, 8, 8) ... She’s cute and sweet, sure. But that’s pretty standard for the Dex Holders, and White doesn’t have much character development in that regard. She’s more accepting, I suppose, after “slipping” off of the Ferris wheel in an “accident”. But she’s still absolute sh*t at battling, using the crappiest Dex Holder team outside of Yellow’s. So she’s like a detriment in combat situations, which... is quite nice story wise, as it creates more tension! ... The biggest thing holding White in this spot is the fact that she’s a staple in the Black & White pairing that I like so much. ... More specifically, the pairing that I like hammering so damn much. Besides that pairing moment, she’s kind of... well, a filler. She doesn’t do much in the Junior Trio/Quartet. I suppose she serves a bit as a... mediator of sorts? White is the one most suited for handling other people, given her job. So she’d know the best way to talk to other people with vastly differing personalities, which is something the other Dex Holders (especially Platinum) may not. So... there’s that, I guess.

X (17, 17, 10, 9, 10, 9) He climbed a rank! Yay! ... Right now, I feel that X is a bit hard to use. If Y was with him, then it’s not as bad. But by himself... I think it’s because he was such a... douche for so much of his only arc, and his character development pretty much happened in the last two pages. I just don’t have enough information on what he’d be like post character development, so it just feels awkward using him in various chapters. Maybe as time passes, he can develop his own solid role in my stories, like Y did. ... For now, he’d start by just being super nice and friendly with Y, and be the ONE junior male Dex Holder who’s respectful to Platinum (since BW2 cast still won’t exist in my stories).

Pearl (RB, RB, RB, RB, 13, 10) What a climb. He how has his team overhauled to better suit his personality/ability, getting rid of some of the random ass additions that he never really used. And even though Heart as a story may be like a dud, its effect in making me like this guy a lot more is quite profound! Among the Morning Sound trio, he’ll serve as Platinum’s swo... ... er... ... lead pipe. He’ll protect and support Platinum in his own way, which is to take action and clearing a path, so to speak. In the end, even if Platinum does not notice his crush on her, he’d have been just as important as Diamond.

Low Preferences The name of this “tier” has been changed to make a bit more sense. I mean... what in hell is a “dead zone”, and why is it not the worst thing?

Sapphire (16, 11, 11, 11, 11, 11) She’s certainly quite... charming in her own way, and is fun to use, but... it’s not that easy anymore. Her most defined tendency is her “wildness” and physical strength, which both defy reason. And sh*t that defies reason... me just no like. I mean, what are the limits to her physical prowess?? Outside of comedic scenes? Her prowess is now going to be not that much better than Y’s. She’d still hit a lot harder, but won’t be as agile. And in terms of her as a character... well, it seems that her entire being just revolves around Ruby. Her whole objective in RS was just to keep the promise made to young Ruby. And now that objective was completed... ... ???

Ruby (15, 13, 12, 12, 12, 12) See, even in here, they’re together. Heh. So Ruby and Sapphire as characters are like... Sapphire doing what Ruby is doing or had asked her to do. It’s like the “unit” Sapphire has been issued the follow command on the “unit” Ruby, and then the command console broke so she’s just following him forever. And while Ruby does independent things from time to time, he’s kind of... forced to include Sapphire now, which kind of turns it into a pairing thing, and I don’t really like this pairing all that much. I don’t dislike it, but I just don’t really care much about it. Hence both of them are in the low preferences. They’re useful together, as both of them at once are like an independent unit that can accomplish so much. ... But they HAVE to be together, which... meh.

Black (10, 10, 13, 13, 15, 13) Man. ... STILL stuck in this chickensh*t outfi... er... that rock. Freedom might be close, but so far, it seems like White was the one who got sucked into the Light Stone? ... So the reason why this guy is down here is because I haven’t seen anything new from this guy in 5 years despite him being in an active arc. Yeah, yeah, rock. But even without that, I just don’t think he’s that... good. Yeah, he’s quite smart and noticed intricate details, but only after his mind’s been cleared, which is a bothersome. As a trainer, I don’t consider him to be all that strong, as his accomplishments were forced upon by the game plot. So the only thing pulling him up is his bond with White and... that’s just filled with pain, man. Heh. ... So... once again... until he comes out of that freaking rock...

Gold (15, 13, 14, 14, 14, 14) So Gold’s team was overhauled, giving him a Houndour, Larvitar, and a candle (Litwick) on his head like a damn Kobold. “You no take candle!” ... But well... his team was overhauled so that he’d find his own style, which is more of an explosive firepower. He’d now serve much better in combat as fitting as someone who’s one of the absolute oldest. But to be honest, the overhaul was more like... chump charity? His post-Cycle personality is kind of... well, very un-Gold-like. And his Gold-like personality is... well, he’s an ass. He’s a good guy, sure. But he doesn’t act like one because he doesn’t want to be seen as one. So he’d only help out in a situation if he had an excuse in the form of a “selfish” reason, which just doesn’t work for me.

Crystal (14, 16, 15, 15, 16, 15) Crystal’s team was updated so that she’s not using horrible sh*t all the time. But... well, the proverb in Korean goes as “giving a pearl to a pig”. Like... what would a pig do with a pearl? Does it even know the value? ... No. So like... giving Crystal a much better combat team, when she herself is just crap at fighting, it’s just... a waste. And personality wise, Crystal is kind of bland. She’s just really nice and kind and smart, which... is very standard. Her role is basically just like a support to the juniors, which can be done by any other girl, and her bond with Gold kind of results in the post-Cycle Gold, which is a bit of an issue? Hmm...

Faitsu (11, 12, 16, 16, 17, 16) The girl with absolutely no development or a team, or a reason to exist. Sure, she’s super cute and fun to see, but... that’s it. There is no other purpose. And with hopes of BW2 being non-existent... she’s not going to climb any higher unless someone else falls from above. It’s all downhill from here, but others may just fall faster.

Sun (9, 8, 9, 8, 9, 17) Welcome to the double digits. You will never see the single digits ever again. Honestly, I just don’t remember why I ranked him so high before. I don’t like his personality, or appearance. He’s very objective-driven, almost like two other male Dex Holders who are just... boring. Unless SM/USM shows me something very intriguing that’s good enough, this guy is just going to fall further. He hogs the spotlight so damn much, he doesn’t really give a f*ck about anything other than his own goals, he has the story-mode invulnerability bullsh*t going on, which defies reason, and I think he’s one of the biggest reasons why I just don’t like the Generation VII arc anymore. The only reason why he’s not in the bottom “tier” is because SM/USM still has some hope, and I’m holding onto the hope that he’ll have some incredibly sweet moment with Moon. If that doesn’t happen, then f*ck him.

Rock Bottom

Yellow (RB, RB, RB, RB, 18, RB) And back here again. But do note that she’s still not on the very bottom! In fact, her ranking remains the same as last time, in the 18th spot out of 20! It’s just that “low preferences” doesn’t apply to her. I have absolutely no interest in using Yellow beyond ONE situation, and that is not a good one for her. It’s either just heartbreak and being forgotten, or SoS shenanigans. And even for those two, White just serves as a better and more entertaining target. So... meh. Also, Yellow as a whole just defies reason. Just like how Core Enforcer f*cked her bullsh*t abilities in Destiny, so shall something else do the same to her in Legacy.

Rakutsu (12, 14, 17, RB, RB, RB) The same as Faitsu, except this guy ain’t sweet and adorable. Randomly spewed out backstory that somehow made me lose even more interest in the guy, which no hope left for BW2... How much longer until I banish the BW2 cast into the void as well? Heh...

Silver (RB, RB, RB, RB, RB, RB) The only one with no numbers in the ranking history. Always been down here, and always will. Silver is just like that guy, in that his personality is just incompatible with anyone. He’s the lone, quite, brooding type guy which makes character interactions with anyone other than Blue to be... boring as sh*t. So I’ll just save myself the headache and just have him basically not exist so I don’t have to worry about character interactions.
