He wasn't expecting it. Vin never really did with her. Always a surprise. Still, there was alarm bells. Which had been going on for a lot longer than he realized and yet, he couldn't place it.

He knew the source of those bells was her with him. That specific action: her standing next to or around himself or now, pressing lips against his. But, the what - 'the real reason' - and the why of it - 'herself with him' - that wasn't because of what he was.

That latter half was in reference to him being a... well, humans would call him a monster or a beast or a thing, wouldn't they, if they saw him truly?

No, it was this. And he didn't like lying. By omission or avoidance or - in this case - prevention. Something was preventing him from figuring it out. He figure it out, he'll blurt it out, end of. He wished it was the very very tiny crush he had on her that was doing it, preventing him, signaling alarm bells. Too overcomplicated for that to be the case.

He could - no, not could, should - let her know something was wrong with her. Medically. Well, he'll have to work on that - saying something is medically — god, this is really fucking up his streak of not making a powerpoint breakdown explanation so he could wade her through it together: three years, 240 days since the last one.

"Now, what was that for?" He wanted to pull her back into the kiss but, usually the initiator did that. Unless, the method change. Not good at keeping up with new social cues. His hands trembled, afraid to hurt her just by simple touch alone. Let her lead.

#this has brought to my attention a preponderance of noughties films. apart from the 1938 they were the first ones on here #1938 / 1944 / 1954 / 1959 / 2001 / 2001 / 2005 / 2008 / 2020 / 2022 #everything from the 60s through 90s and also the 10s can fuck off. apparently #yes the first two are just cary grant doing Expressions but in my defence. that's a not-insignificant part of my enjoyment of both movies #i also somehow have not come remotely close to squares' 9/10 queer or queer-coded films #i have like. 3 and two halves #depending on whether you count a) one scene of cary grant in a fluffy robe making gay references enough to qualify a movie as queer-coded #or b) queer icon status as counting #personally i think two of these should count as queer icon status actually but only one of them is widely accepted as such #shortlist that didn't make it on here included red white & royal blue; the princess and the frog; and the beautician and the beast #a wide-ranging trio #mine #tag games #itwoodbeprefect #you may also be able to gather from this that the primary trait i like my movies to have is Silly
