We're finally going to learn about the Trueblood cousins, I've been waiting for this for YEARS!! I'M SO EXCITED
I also hope she'll someday explain who those Lightwood cousins are that Alec mentions in his dream in CoHF and if Robert and Martin Gladstone were first cousins, if Martin had children and Alec and Isabelle have second cousins Gladstone
Will we get to see clary and jace in the wicked powers? How are they doing?
Well, at the beginning, they're fine like everyone else! You will see them in TWP — and there's a story about them in Better in Black that also involves Maryse's lost brother (remember, he married a mundane and got his Marks stripped) which I think is really fun.

Everybody say happy birthday to Robert Lightwood!
Our favourite Lightwood-grandpa would be 55, he was born on the 17th of September of 1965.
In the movie adaptation of City of Bones, sadly, there was no Robert... but he was portrayed by Paulino Nunes in the tv series.
what do you need to know about him?
Robert didn’t respond well to his first mark, so much so that he wasn’t in a good health state for around a month. his parent chose to not give up because cutting the mark would make him a mundane
after the accident of his first mark, he was afraid of marking himself, but he managed to overcome his fear thanks to Michael Wayland
he was Michael’s Parabatai
he attended the Shadowhunter Academy a year after his peers due to the bad reaction to the first mark
he was a former member of the Circle
his Parabatai fell in love with him, but he rejected him immediately
he was Maryse Trueblood’s husband
he has three children: Alec, Isabelle and Maxwell, plus Jace who was adopted
after the Uprising he was banished - along with Maryse and his first child - from Idris
he had an extra-maritial affair with Annamarie Highsmith, but it ended as soon as Maryse was expecting their third child
he didn’t notice Michael’s death - caused by Valentine - because of the long time spent away from each other
he became the Inquisitor
his favourite weapon was the broadsword
even though he didn’t fully accepted Alec’s love-life decisions, he ended up supporting him and caring for his grandsons
Maryse and Robert ended up divorcing, but they still managed to keep in touch
he died in 2012, at 47 years old, because of Annabel Blackthorn, who stabbed him with the Mortal Sword during her interrogatory

∝ @runesanddeath ― “Why wasn’t I ever good enough to be your son?”
𝐈𝐓 𝐖𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃 𝐇𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐇𝐔𝐑𝐓 𝐋𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐈𝐅 𝐇𝐄 𝐇𝐀𝐃 𝐉𝐔𝐒𝐓 stabbed her, if he had tried to carve her heart out of her chest with a blunt knife. Nothing could have prepared her for what hearing those words made her feel, and as a reaction, she took several steps back. Agony throbbing in her chest. Maryse could hardly remember what they had been fighting about, they were all so stressed, all so upset after what had happened with Max, and finally both Maryse and Jace exploded. His words hurt, and she knew they were meant to, deep down she knew this was all stress but after he asked that particular question, she wasn't sure anymore.
❛ W-what? What are you talking about? ❜ she exclaimed, voice choked up as she looked down, trying to keep herself from crying but failing miserably given the familiar burn in her sky-blue eyes. Her heart breaking by the second as she thought back to when he first came to the New York Institute, about how he had been covered in filth, his golden eyes wide and mistrusting. She remembered staying silent, until Robert considered sending the boy away ― until he considered turning his back on his own Parabatai's child. And then she stepped in, acting like a true Trueblood would and not taking no for an answer until the Clave allowed her to keep the boy. He had been her son from the moment she had laid eyes on him. Her second oldest, Alec's Parabatai, her golden boy.
Maryse didn't realise just how fast she was breathing, almost to the point of hyperventilation as she leaned against the bookshelf. She was going to set off a panic attack, and that was the last thing she wanted. ❛ Jace, you've been my son since you stepped into this Institute! Never once have I thought of you as anything other than that! ❜ as tears silently fell down her cheeks, Maryse attempted to stay on track. Attempted to stay calm enough not to panic in front of him. She had spent years hiding the fact that she struggled with anxiety and panic attacks, and she planned on never letting anyone know about it.
❛ And I'm sorry I never noticed how much you were struggling, how much you actually needed me! I'm sorry I let myself believe in that brave little face you'd always pull when I tried to approach you. ❜ she gasped, shaking her head. Long locks of silky black hair billowing around her, some strands sticking to her tear-streaked cheek. ❛ I'm the one who's never been good enough to be your mother! ❜ and then she chuckled, a wet and painful little laughter the pain written all over her face. ❛ Or anyone's mother for that matter, I mean. Look at your siblings! Alexander spent so long hiding whom he truly was because he thought I would disown him, Isabelle hates me, you think you're not good enough and M-Maxwell is dead! ❜ she broke down, hiding her face with her hands.
❛ I've done this. I've done all of that and you have every right to hate me, but never, ever think you're not my son. Because you are. You're my son, my boy, no matter what the Clave says, or the Inquisitor or Raziel himself! ❜ Maryse spoke through badly contained sobs.

No one sent me asks from this list about my 2019 reading year, so I answered all of them, because I wanted to and because I can. Enjoy!
How many books did you read this year?
35! My highest number on Goodreads record is 38, so I almost beat out my highest number to date, but I’m pleased with the 35 I did read.
Did you reread anything? What?
I like to reread books, and this year I reread Little Women and The Tale of Despereaux
What were your top five books of the year?
In no particular order: The Good Neighbor: The Life and Work of Fred Rogers by Maxwell King Pachinko by Min Jin Lee Yale Needs Women by Anne Gardiner Perkins The Scarlet Forest by A.E. Chandler Meg, Jo, Beth, Amy: The Story of Little Women and Why It Still Matters by Anne Boyd Rioux
Did you discover any new authors that you love this year?
Not particularly… Although I did read two books by Monica Hesse. Both were good, but they didn’t blow me away. I was just intrigued enough by the first book, to pick up another one. What genre did you read the most of?
It doesn’t really count as a genre, but I did read 34.3% nonfiction, followed by 31.4% historical fiction.
Was there anything you meant to read, but never got to?
Yes, unfortunately. I made a 2019 TBR just because, without designating it as a concrete goal, but I’m still sad that five of the books never made it onto my “read” list.
Affinity by Sarah Waters *When We Were Outlaws by Jeanne Cordova *84, Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff Pages For You by Sylvia Brownrigg Journey to a Woman by Ann Bannon
* denotes books I tried to read but were inaccessible due to library availability. All of these books are being carried over to my 2020 TBR.
What was your average Goodreads rating? Does it seem accurate?
3.6 is my average, which feels okay, but I do feel like I had a lot of great books this year! Ten 5 star books, and eleven 4 star books. My average does feel mostly accurate, but I might tip it up a bit to 3.8.
Did you meet any of your reading goals? Which ones?
I didn’t set any particular reading goals other than to not set a reading goal, haha. I set my Goodreads challenge to 1 to relieve all pressure and allow myself to just enjoy reading. I made a TBR just to keep my focus narrowed, but I didn’t make it to force myself to read any of the books. I definitely enjoyed my reading this past year, I am pleased with the non-goals that I set.
Did you get into any new genres?
I think I definitely read a lot more nonfiction this year, and I think it’s something I definitely want to continue doing. Many of my favorite books of the year were nonfiction.
What was your favorite new release of the year?
Yale Needs Women by Anne Gardiner Perkins! This book is about when Yale became co-ed, and follows the lives of various female students who were the first women at Yale. I would highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.
What was your favorite book that has been out for a while, but you just now read?
I tend to read more of the backlist than new releases, so this one is tough. As it turns out, I think my favorite is a tie between Pachinko by Min Jin Lee and The Scarlet Forest by A.E. Chandler. Both were published in 2017.
Any books that disappointed you?
Ugh. Yes. The Daylight Gate by Jeanette Winterson, Nottingham by Nathan Makaryk, and Sherwood by Meagan Spooner.
What were your least favorite books of the year?
The Daylight Gate by Jeanette Winterson and Women in the Shadows by Ann Bannon.
What books do you want to finish before the year is over?
The year is already over. I was in the middle of two books, which I would have liked to have finished: A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki and Ghosts of the Tsunami: Death and Life in Japan’s Disaster Zone by Richard Lloyd Parry. I finished A Tale for the Time Being today (01/03), and will probably finish the second in the next few days.
Did you read any books that were nominated for or won awards this year (Booker, Women’s Prize, National Book Award, Pulitzer, Hugo, etc.)? What did you think of them?
After a quick couple Google searches, I don’t think I read any books nominated for or won awards.
What is the most over-hyped book you read this year?
I feel like I read several books that had a good amount of hype (either this year or in previous years). The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon, Pachinko by Min Jin Lee, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, among others. But I enjoyed many of my hyped books as much as I expected. With one exception. I was not a fan of Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan. Ugh, that was an over-hyped and unenjoyable book.
Did any books surprise you with how good they were?
Pachinko surprised me. But otherwise, I don’t think so. I have a pretty good sense of which books I like, and if I don’t like something, I can DNF it a chapter or two into the book, guilt-free. Life is too short for unenjoyable books.
How many books did you buy?
4.
Did you use your library?
So much. That’s why I only bought four books. Overdrive and my Kindle are my best friends while I’m living in the Japanese countryside, far away from access to English books.
What was your most anticipated release? Did it meet your expectations?
I really don’t track new releases, so I didn’t anticipate any new books this year.
Did you participate in or watch any booklr, booktube, or book twitter drama?
I watch plenty of Booktube, but I don’t follow channels that participate in drama. The most “drama” I participated in was watching Ariel Bissett’s video about the difficulties of being a book reviewer and reviewing a book published by a close friend (referencing Christine Riccio’s new book.) But I don’t think that’s drama. I think it’s an honest opinion about her experience and very positive content.
What’s the longest book you read?
I think it’s probably The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samatha Shannon.
What’s the fastest time it took you to read a book?
I haven’t the faintest idea. And I don’t want to dig through my Goodreads to find out.
Did you DNF anything? Why?
I DNFed Sherwood by Meagan Spooner. For many reasons. But mostly because I felt it did a disservice to real medieval women by over-writing history and promoting incorrect assumptions in order to write a modern feminist Robin Hood retelling. A badly written retelling to boot.
I also DNFed Across a Broken Shore by Amy Trueblood and Invictus by Ryan Graudin.
What reading goals do you have for next year?
My Goodreads reading challenge is already set to 1, and I plan on enjoying my reading as much this year, as I did last year. I also want to read Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott and England Under Norman and Angevin Kings, 1075-1225 by Robert Bartlett. Otherwise, I have a focused TBR that I am free to ignore if I wish.

What if Isabelle and Alec have a cousin?
If you remember in the books was said that Maryse had/s a brother,Maxwell Trueblood, who left the Clave,so he can marry a mundane.
And what if her brother has a child. It's said that they removed Maxwell's marks, but what if the baby was conceived way before they removed his marks?
And maybe somewhere in the world there is a little Trueblood having no idea about the shadow world, his father's past and how cool his family is.

Harry Potter AU tho.
Maryse as a Death Eater
Primary house, Slytherin, secondary Ravenclaw tbh.
Marrying Robert Lightwood, to uphold the family name after Maxwell ran off with a mundane.
So angry at her brother she never talks with him again because he doomed the Trueblood name
Her babies are so purely breed 👌
God gods she moved to America after the first wizarding war. cos otherwise she’d need to deal with: WHY IS MY BABIES GRIFFINDORS jeez now they have to share dorms with lesser people.
Max’s killed by death eaters to send a message after she doesn’t answer Voldi’s call. (New tattoo who dis?)
So angry, you’ve never seen her more furious or sad, she’s going back to England to fight that fucker.
Robert wanting to disown Alec because of Magnus,
Fuck no, Maryse ain’t having it, and becomes a blood traitor along with her bbies.
Still won’t speak a word with her brother because she’s petty and deals poorly with feeling abandoned.

&&. wait for it ( magnus )
despite maryse’s progress in the parenting department, of the effort she’d made to be honest and open with her children, she’d still sent them on a bit of a wild goose chase—— she didn’t need to send the three of them over to queens fully armed when the only thing there was a very minor spike in demonic activity ; still, she knew that it would keep them busy for a while. this wasn’t something she wanted to do with their knowledge, it was something that didn’t concern them regardless of what they thought. maryse lightwood needed to talk to magnus bane, and that was their business. walking all the way to brooklyn had helped her form a plan in her head, deciding that bluntness and honesty was the best policy : the two of them had a few things to discuss and the woman couldn’t let time keep passing.
this wasn’t about alec, not entirely—– perhaps she wouldn’t be doing this if it wasn’t for her son’s relationship with the warlock, but their issues surpassed that. the history between them was long and full of hate, of pain ; maryse knew how cruel bane could be, and he knew how deadly she truly was. had met her on what she considered the darkest day in her life, the one she’d tried so often to forget but couldn’t. it was a lot and it needed to be addressed—– for their sake and her eldest’s.
maryse knew what it was like when parents and spouses didn’t get along. robert’s mother had hated her so much that sometimes the woman wondered how her husband had even married her—— gone against his mother’s wishes and still proposed, still gone through with the wedding. her mother-in-law had been a scary woman, and maryse trueblood hadn’t been good enough for her child ; her family was a mess with a terrible reputation, maryse herself wasn’t going to stay home and bear a hoard of lightwood babies. no, she’d been young and determined to change the world, ready to fight just like any man would. needless to say, it had caused some friction. it was why alec had the name that he had today : despite how adamant maryse had been to name her son maxwell after her brother, they’d needed to settle the old hag somehow. they’d opened the lightwood family tree and picked the two best names they’d found. but even after she’d given the lightwoods an heir, a first born son who had no trace of the trueblood family, of their legacy, phoebe lightwood had still strongly disliked maryse.
so, it was only fair that alec didn’t have to live his life mediating her and magnus, having to run around trying to appease them both and keep their family in peace. and it was clear that one day magnus bane would be a part of her family, because it didn’t take a genius to see how madly in love those two were—— if the warlock made her son happy, she needed to do something to start some sort of truce. which was why she was taking a deep breath, keeping herself in check as she walked up the stairs of the brooklyn building, knocking on magnus bane’s door with determination.
her hands were smoothing her dress when the door swung open, her chin instinctively lifting and her face kept as neutral as possible when she spoke. “bane.” a nod, short and to the point. “i think it’s time we talked. for alec.”

vivacephoenix said: I wonder if he’s still out there somewhere. Do the Lightwood kids have cousins they’ve never met?
I can imagine they do! He left the Clave to marry a mundane, and as a guess it wouldn't be too off=base to assume he had children.
But also, that might mean that an Institute wherever Max went might have taken them away to train at some point, as is allowed for the children of ex-nephilim, which is awful.
Hm.... this could be quite interesting

VISUAL SERIES + Maxwell and Maryse Trueblood
Max was Maryse’s whole world as a child, and when he left the Clave for a mundane woman, it absolutely destroyed his little sister to part with him. It is a hurt that Maryse carries with her into her adult life, and has caused her to suffer from separation anxiety.

BASICS.
FULL NAME: Maryse Eileen Trueblood Lightwood NICKNAME: Mary, Rizzy, Riz. GENDER: Female. HEIGHT: 167 cm ( 5′4′’ ) AGE: Verse dependent, main verse 35 years old ZODIAC: Scorpio SPOKEN LANGUAGES: French ( first language ), English, Latin, Spanish, Portuguese, Cantonese, Japanese and Korean.
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS.
HAIR COLOUR: Black. EYE COLOUR: Sky-blue, varies according to the light, baby blue under intense light, and sapphire blue in darker settings. SKIN TONE: Very fair, with cooler more neutral undertones. BODY TYPE: She has a willowy frame, the general hourglass shape but her hips are slightly bigger than her bust. Despite the typical muscle mass from her shadowhunter training, she still maintains a rather frail-looking appearance. DOMINANT HAND: Ambidextrous. POSTURE: Maryse has the perfect posture, her back is always straight and her head held high. Her posture exudes confidence, exudes power and makes her look a lot taller than actually she is. Even when she is wounded or sick, Maryse rarely bends, not even a slight hunch of her shoulders. The only thing capable of breaking her perfect stance is emotional pain. MOST NOTICEABLE FEATURE: The blue eyes black hair combination is every bit as impressive as it is said to be. And it is a Trueblood signature, for generations most women of the family are born with those particular features, however, Maryse's eyes remain the most unique. They are lighter than the ones before her, instead of shades resembling lapis or deep-blues, hers are sky-blue. Not only that but they are very big, coupled with her soft and delicate features they are even further highlighted on her face.
CHILDHOOD.
FIRST WORDS: Rain. SIBLINGS: Maxwell Elias Trueblood ( older brother ) PARENTS: Adam Lysander Trueblood ( father ) & Marisa Elayne Beauvale ( mother ) PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT: Both her parents were quite involved in the upbringing of Max and Maryse, within the walls of their home, Marisa was the one to discipline and Adam the one to coddle, but when in public their roles reversed. They were strict but also loving, and when away from the prying eyes, they weren't afraid to show their children the love the needed.
ADULT LIFE.
OCCUPATION: Head of the New York Institute, Official Clave Encoder. CURRENT RESIDENCE: New York Institute. CLOSE FRIENDS: Céline Herondale, Jocelyn Fairchild, Hodge Starkweather, Lucian Greymark RELATIONSHIP STATUS: ( main ) Engaged To Robert Lightwood
( Verse Dependent ) Single/Divorced.
DRIVER’S LICENSE: Yes. CRIMINAL RECORD: Yes.
SEX AND ROMANCE.
SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Bisexual ROMANTIC ORIENTATION: Biromantic RELATIONSHIP TENDENCIES: Maryse was taught to commit to her future husband from the moment she could understand what a husband was. And that tendency to fully, completely dive into the relationship followed through with her into adulthood. Despite that, she has almost zero experience with romance and everything it entails. Her marriage to Robert almost a business transaction, therefore there wasn't a lot to learn there other than the obvious. That being said, Maryse loves deeply, her partner's happiness and well being is her number one priority when in a relationship.
MISCELLANEOUS.
CHARACTER THEME SONG: Seras-tu là? by Sindy HOBBIES TO PASS THE TIME: Maryse's hobbies include: singing, song-writing, cooking, reading and training. She hardly has time to do any of those, so when she does, she focus on the ones she loves the most which are singing and cooking. Both activities that she excels in. MENTAL ILLNESS: Maryse experiences depressive episodes, and surprisingly enough, she deals with general anxiety disorder as well as social anxiety, both which she has learnt to hide from everyone including her husband. She also struggles with separation anxiety dating back to when her brother decided to part ways with the Clave. When more actively engaging in field work, Maryse would experience depersonalization, mostly as a way to cope with what she was doing or going through.
PHYSICAL ILLNESS: She is prone to foregoing her need for food in order to work, which causes her to experience the common weakness that comes with being hours or days without proper nutrition, and it also impacts on her body as she is prone to losing weight very fast.
