Have some original content! These three are Alek, Maxim and Nina. Their stories are set in the 80s in a city much like a darker version of Hollywood + New York. Hope to be able to tell this story one day!

CHARACTER PROFILES:

Alek Ivanov: A refugee from a country at war. With much effort he got himself a good gig as a bartender of an underground bar so as to make ends meet, and possibly return to his home one day.

Maxim Marsley: A famous disco musician/singer, known by many as "Maximars". He's notoriously known for having a bizzare love life, ranging from men to women (this was the 80s). He is in a strained relationship with Nina.

Nina Moore Tyler: An independent woman who aspires to live a free, self-led life, as she's often pressured by her Catholic family to "behave like how a lady should". To pay off her college tuition, she sings in bars and cafes, which is where she met and formed a relationship with Maxim.

Maxi-Mars and mini-moon on 3.10.2020 over Melbourne. by Clement Tang * The Red Planet is getting bigger and brighter every day as it makes its closest approach to Earth since July 2018. It is a mini-moon - a full moon that occurs at the most distant point in its orbit from earth each month - so it will appear slightly smaller than usual. This was taken on 3rd October 2020. Shortly just before 9pm, At 8pm, Mars appeared first, and was quite red, but the moon was behind thick clouds. I had to wait for an hour before clouds cleared. The exposure of the moon was suppressed by 2 EV to facilitate observing the red planet, which appears as tiny red disc in the top left corner. So I ranted about Maia and Zen and Arun, but I’ve briefly mentioned a few others and felt I needed to expand upon them slightly.

Max:

short for Maximar but he’s rarely one for formality

Maia’s younger brother by about 3 or 4 years? I don’t remember, but I’ve got the timeline written down somewhere

After they got captured by slave traders, they were sold off to different places and lost all contact

Max was moved around a few places and ended up eventually in a gladiator style situation

He’s adaptable and smart so he survived well and led a mini revolution to escape

shortly after that he ran into an old royal guard (name forgotten, sorry) who felt like he’d lost his honour allowing the Royal Family to be killed that he immediately re-swore fealty to Max (who was just like “cool???”)

Sure his sister is still alive he spends many years a) building up a resistance group and b) looking for Maia

Spends most of it surrounded by power hungry advisors that want to put him on the throne and use him as a puppet ruler for their plans

He acts dumb a bit but refuses to be swayed from finding his sister

He has no wish to be on the throne, that’s Maia’s right - his role was always to be commander of the royal armies and he is so keen on that job (warfare? tactics? heart eyes from max)

gay af and this hasn’t been in question for him since he was like 7 or something

Hoo boy did some creepy older men take advantage of that a few times.... :/ i’mma say abuse warning....

bit of a child at times - likes to laugh and pull pranks (though sometimes those pranks are.... unethical and terrifying??? look he takes great pleasure in ppl he doesn’t like being tortured and/or killed - though he calms down on this a bit as he grows up)

loves Maia with all his heart and gets along very well with Zen who spars with him a lot

A young-ish soldier in the Royal Army that showed considerable talent and rose through the ranks surprisingly fast

They meet after Maia is crowned on the frontlines of a retaliation/invasion campaign

Max is just impressed and excited about Theon’s talent for prediction of enemy movements and avoiding traps etc. - even more excited when he finds out that Theon is shy and kinda serious/stoic cuz man he wants to crack that facade (and maybe wants to see what he’s look like being fucked into oblivion)

Theon is just a nervous gay wreck around the hot prince who seems to have taken a liking to him and how does he deal with this it isn’t professional and i have issues with social interactions?????

But also the Prince is amazing and smart af and inspires loyalty cuz he’s good to his soldiers and Theon is maybe very in love with a prince and whoops he needs to bury that cuz he is not prince consort material :(

Max just flirts mercilessly (a skill he learnt from Zen, to Maia’s endless chagrin) until poor Theon snaps and yells at the prince for tormenting him - then realising he just yelled at THE FUCKING PRINCE OF THE REALM he bolts

Max now feels bad cuz he actually really likes Theon for so many reasons and he kinda pushed it too far...

Anyway they talk it over and end up making out in the forest

They stick close together for the campaign (no one has the balls to say anything about it) and afterwards Theon p much becomes Max’s bodyguard/consort/personal attendant or something

It’s not super public for stupid reasons (being that most nobles are homophobic shitheads and Theon doesn’t feel ready to come out just yet and Max isn’t gonna push it cuz he loves this boy so damn much) but they’re so fucking sappy and in love

Theon in general is shy and anxious and a bit grumpy, but he’s fucking good at what he does and when he gets stuck on something or needs to make his voice heard by god will he muster up every ounce of courage he has to say it

He balances out Max’s hyper childishness with his calm rationalism

He would actually get along really well with Maia but he’s terrified of her, despite Max’s assurances that she’s not even that scary

Idk much about Theon’s family history yet tbh

I’ll leave you with these 2 for the moment. Next time I’ll tell you about The Twins cuz they.... oh man. They’re an interesting pair.

Today in the mail I got... a box! A box which contains a Zeiss Ikon Maximar 207/7 folding 9x12cm camera, along with 3 glass plate holders with sheet film adapters and a pack film holder with 4 sheets left. It was manufactured sometime between 1927 and 1937. What's so amazing is that the format is nearly 4x5 yet it fits in a very small package. It's going to need a good cleaning and lubrication but is in fair condition for its age. Maybe someday I will aquire 9x12cm sheet film and give it a try! It is a gorgeous camera in the meantime.

Hoy veremos un ejemplo básico de DataTables con Server Side que nos hará mostrar grandes cantidades de datos directo desde base de datos de forma eficiente y veloz. Seguramente en más de un proyecto web habrás tenido la necesidad de mostrar datos en una tabla, podremos hacerlo con una tabla normal hecha por nosotros que posiblemente lucirá bastante fea y nos tomará bastante tiempo crearla o mediante DataTables.

Para comenzar dejame decirte que si sigues utilizando tablas sencillas para tus proyectos debes de actualizarte con urgencia.

Existen muchas opciones para crear tablas mucho más presentables y con funcionalidades de otro nivel de forma más rápida.

Hoy hablaremos de una de ellas, DataTables. Así como la forma en que podemos utilizarla para mostrar datos directamente de la base de datos de nuestro proyecto.

Además, mediante esta forma que te mostraré (Server Side) el tiempo de carga de la información es de locos! Con esta forma podremos mostrar cantidades de datos impresionantes en realmente poco tiempo que si lo hacemos de forma convencional.

Hace tiempo hablamos sobre que aprender si quieres ser un desarrollador web, pues ahora te digo que si ya eres un desarrollador web y no utilizas DataTables te estas perdiendo de mucho!

¿Qué es DataTables?

DataTables es una librería gratuita basada en JQuery ( y a su vez en Javscript ) para enaltecer las tablas HTML.

Agrega caracteristicas fantasticas como paginación, búsqueda instantanea, ordenamiento por columnas, responsiva para moviles, fácil de traducir a cualquier idioma, muchas extensiones (por si hiciera falta), gran comunidad e información en Internet y muchas cosas más!

Realmente si no estas utilizando DataTables en tus proyectos te estas perdiendo de mucho..

Preparando la librería

Inicialización

Para comenzar necesitamos agregar DatTables a nuestro proyecto.

Te recomiendo ir al sitio web de datatables para más información sobre cómo comenzar o puedes agregar los siguientes archivos via CDN:

Agregamos los archivos CSS / JS básicos:

Ahora bien, para nuestro ejemplo yo utilizó varios archivos y extensiones más para maximar nuestra tabla: responsive, uikit, buttons (bastante genial para agregar botones de exportar la información en Excel, CSV y PDF), etc.

Como puedes ver únicamente definimos la estructura pero no establecemos información.

Potenciando nuestra tabla

Ahora si, veamos como potenciaremos nuestra tabla con ayuda de DataTables con Server Side.

En nuestro código Javascript vamos a inicializar nuestra tabla mediante su ID:

Aquí tenemos información de sobre para explicar, vamos por orden:

Antes que nada nos convertimos en nuestra tabla y la convertimos en DataTable.

bProcessing: Para mostrar un indicador de que nuestra información esta cargando.

sAjaxSource: Obtiene la información desde una fuente Ajax, en este caso un archivo PHP que se conecta a una base de datos.

aoColumns: Nos sirve para conectar nuestras columnas de base de datos a las columnas de nuestra tabla, lo entenderemos mejor cuando veamos nuestro archivo php source.

retrieve: Definimos que obtendremos una instancia de BD.

dom: Esto nos sirve para definir como acomodar los componentes de nuestra Tabla, botones, buscador, etc.

pageLength: La cantidad de registros que serán visibles en la pantalla.

order: Como se ordenará la información, por cual columna y si será en ascendente o descendente.

buttons: Propio de nuestra extensión Buttons para nuestros botones de exportación.

columnDefs: Configuraciones extras por columnas, si es buscable o visible alguna columna en especial.

language: Esta parte del código nos permite traducir los mensajes más importantes de nuestra tabla a Español, este código no puede faltar.

Ahora que tenemos inicializada nuestra tabla veamos nuestro código PHP que obtiene la información.

Obteniendo la información desde Base de Datos

Aquí nos entraremos en detalles de conexión ni nada por el estilo, veamos el código más importante.

En resumen para nuestro ejemplo de DataTables con server side nos conectamos a nuestra Base de datos, ejecutamos un SELECT y vamos guardando en una matriz la información.

Observa como los indices se llaman igual que en nuestro código Javascript en aoColumns.

Tambi��n al final lo metemos en un objeto con otra información en $results.

Por último lo regresamos ( o imprimimos con un echo ) para recibirlo en nuestra inicialización de tabla en JavaScript.
