Contrary to the plot of The Producers, Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom would have been sentenced to more than 5 years in Sing Sing.
Hypothetically, these could be the charges of Max and Leo based on what they committed during the run of the show:
Max
1 count of investment fraud resulting in 10 years of prison
1 count of embezzlement resulting in 5 years if prison to be served consecutively
1 count of conspiracy to commit fraud resulting in 7 years in prison to be served concurrently with the fraud charge
1 count of theft by deception resulting in 8 years of prison to be served consecutively
5 counts of prostitution resulting in 5 years of prison, a year for each count
Max’s final sentence would be 28 years in prison.
Leo
1 count of investment fraud resulting in 7 years of prison
1 count of conspiracy to commit fraud resulting in 5 years in prison to be served concurrently with the fraud charge
1 count of aiding and abetting embezzlement resulting in 4 years of prison to be served consecutively
Leo’s final sentence would be 11 years in prison.
Leo was given a less harsh sentence because of his lack of criminal history before Springtime for Hitler and because he was hesitant at first, showing evidence of Max coercing him.
Along with prison sentence, the two would likely be forced to pay back the $2 million to their backers as restitution.

A thought that keeps crossing my mind:
So we all know Mel Brooks was the producer on the Gutenberg cast album, right? Mel Brooks also wrote The Producers, the plot summarized:
Max Bialystock is a producer who can’t seem to find success on Broadway. When he meets accountant Leo Bloom they figure out that they can make more money with a flop than with a hit and they go on a mission to find the worst play ever written.
At the start of The Producers, Max fails once again with a show called Funny Boy. In the Gutenberg cast recording Mel talks about an all male version of Dream Girls that is isn’t working. In both cases the genders are swapped (Funny Boy obviously being a reference to the musical Funny Girl). This raises the impression of Mel being a sort of Max Bialystock. Now we know Gutenberg isn’t that good of a musical, it’s historically inaccurate and it probably wouldn’t be a huge hit on Broadway.
What if Mel is also trying to find an awful musical to do the exact same that Max and Leo did? (Aka get Bialystock and Bloom’d).
Poor Bud and Doug bro.

fnaf producers au where its at the legal part and its like "Id like to say something, your honor! Not on my behalf, but in reference to my partner, Mr.Afton….your honor, ladies and gentleman of the jury, William Afton is the most selfish man i've ever met in my life….not only is he a liar, and a cheat, and a scoundrel, and a crook, who has taken money from little ol' kids, he has talked people into doing things, especially me, that they would have never in a thousand years have dreamed of doing. But your honor, as I understand it, the law was created to protect people from being wronged. Your honor, whom has William Afton wronged? I mean whom has he really hurt? Not me. Not me. I was…this man….No one had ever called me Henry before, I mean, I know that's not a big legal point, but even in kindergarten, most kids just called me "Emily"…I never played a show before, I mean with someone else, I never played a show with someone else before. This man….this man….this is a wonderful man. He made me what I am today…he did. And what of the dear children? what would have been of their lives without William Afton? William Afton who made them laugh, and cheer, and have fun. That's all I have to say."

Ok why is no one talking about the French production of The Producers???
I normally HATE translated versions of musicals (which includes my country’s version of this one lol) but this seems cool.
Also their Max looks just like Nathan Lane, or I’m tripping.
Also I found this:
youtube
I think the translation is pretty accurate lol.
And I found the audition poster in my drafts but I completely forgot about it until now. It was like way before Covid when they announced it.

deeply upsetting that I saw this post about oliver putnam (and max bialystock and a third character whose name I forget bc it was someone I'm unfamiliar with) and the trope of the Fallen Broadway King and someone in the tags was like "I'm about to write a whole paper about this, I need to talk to someone about this" AND I WAS GONNA REBLOG LIKE YES PLEASE TALK TO ME PLEASE WRITE YOUR PAPER TO ME RIGHT HERE ON TUMBLR DOT COME BUT THEN SOMEHOW I ACCIDENTALLY CLICKED AWAY AND IT IS LOST TO ME
