you find yourself on a beach. a bogan with a pounamu necklace stand before you. you run, assuming this is the god of death.
Maui ties you up and says "how dare you be fast in my presence"
When someone dies, the afterlife they go to is determined by WHERE they died. Dying in Scandinavia sends the soul to Valhalla or Hel, but dying in Greece lands them in Hades, and so on. You have just died in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

Is the scene where Crowley and Aziraphale are trying to figure out the past tense of "smite" a "Moana" reference or was that just a coincidence?
(In "Moana," Maui says, "I am a demigod, I will smite you! You wanna get...smited? Smote?")
No, I just wanted to make Aziraphale say "smitten".

pairing: lando norris x femalereader
summary: your boyfriend adores disney movies. what happens when you decide to have a marathon with him, even though you know he will spoil every single one of the movies and ruin it for you?
warnings: just fluff, slight angst
Tumblr media
"AND THEN MOANA finds out that her destiny isn’t waiting for her it’s insi-- Oof!" Lando whispered into your ear, only to be smacked right smack dab in the middle of his face with a pillow.
"Lando! Stop! You’ve done this many times before and it’s getting annoying." You fumed.
It was a kind of bittersweet situation dating the famous F1 driver. He was super sweet and everything anyone would want in a boyfriend. Except that he couldn’t keep his mouth shut when it came to Disney movies.
You planned a whole week of watching your favorite Disney movies.
Monday was Snow White; a classic.
Tuesday was Mulan, because of obvious reasons.
You let Lando pick on Wednesday. And of course, he picked the one and only: The Little Mermaid, his favorite.
Thursday was going to be Beauty and the Beast because Lando had managed to spoil every single one you suggested previously.
It’s not that you hadn't already watched these movies. It’s just that while you did, your boyfriend kept interrupting the movie to tell you what was about to happen. One of your greatest pet peeves.
Just before you two started ‘Moana’, you cautioned him.
"You better not spoil any of this movie."
"But I can’t help it!" Lando whined. "I’m pretty sure I’ll combust or something if I don’t, baby!"
‘Nope! No buts. Or spoilers! Promise?’
All you heard was a weak fine.
You two set up your movie necessities. Lando rested his head on your lap while you had one hand stroking his hair and the other in the popcorn bucket.
Almost halfway into the movie, Lando broke his promise. "Hey, baby! Here’s the part where she meets Maui, a demigod. But they split up because he’s kind of bitter at first. But then they become a team."
"LANDO. COME ON." You groaned as you threw your head back on the couch.
He was so childish sometimes. You wanted to start throwing heavy stuff at him.
"Sorry." He replied sheepishly.
But was he really?
With a smug smirk plastered all over his face, he proceeded to spoil the rest of the movie.
Finally on your last straw, you devised a plan to finally shut him up.
"And then they return the st-" But before he could finish his sentence, you snuck up on him and kissed him.
Due to the kiss, his brain short-circuited so his first instinct was to kiss back. Putting his hands around your waist, he moaned into the kiss.
Then you suddenly broke off the kiss, leaving him with a deep pout on his lips.
"Why’d ya stop?" His accent appeared.
"Oh, the kiss? That was only to stop you from spoiling the rest of the movie. Smart idea, right?’
"Definitely, baby." Murmured Lando as he took your chin in his hands and brought you closer so he could taste you again. "Absolutely."

Lego Monkie Kid x Moana AU
Tumblr media
Rewatched Moana and was like: "Man, Maui is kinda like Wukong" and now we have this
Explanation
(i might edit this as i go)
MK(Moana): A strange but hyperactive boy, who dreams about great voyages at sea. The same his hero, Sun Wukong, also went on. From a young age, he has felt connection to the ocean, that can never truly be explained.
Wukong(Maui): "The great demigod equal to the seven seas. He has been on many great voyages, on which he has liftided up the sky, created coconuts among many other things. He once had compainions with him on these journeys, but they are all gone now. He also possesed the abilty to transform, but for some reason, cant anymore... He is currently trapped on an Island, unable to get away. He also hates that he is demigod, and will correct anyone who says he is one.
Pigsy and Tang(Moanas parents): The head chief of the island, and his husband, who despartly tried to get MK to stop waisting his time with The Monkie Kings stories and instead become the head chief of the island. They simply dont want him to be like thoughs monsters, from the Monkie king stories, that they may be related to in some way or the other...
Nuwa(Grandma Tala): She isnt MK's real grandma, but he still calls her it (even though her dads does not like her). She told MK all the great stories of the Monkie King, which started his hyperfixation on Sun Wukong and dreams about fantastic voayges. She did this in the hopes he could do... something with this. Im making her morally grey in this AU, since in canon we dont know Nuwa yet.. She was also the one who gave him, his staff-shaped necklace.
Sandy(The water): He is literally a water demon originally- of course i had to make him the morally support water that helps MK through his journery.
Spider Queen(Tamatoa): A giand spider crab, that loves gold as much as herself. She also seems to have the knowledge of why Wukong cant transform anymore.
The Demon Bull family(The coconut pirates): Yea- they just here for the chaos, the funsies, and being good villians, just like the show. :D
Macaque(Tefiti): Once a mighty warrior, that traveled with the great sage, and had a very close bond with. But now he is an angry and terryfing shadow monster Why has he changed? Well, that is the quiston isnt it?;) (Dont worry i have a good angsty backstory for it)

@a-1010-is-speaking a coconut is the fruit of a tropical palm tree found on earth. While the inner meat of the coconut is edible and very sweet and tasty the outer shell is exceptionally hard and has been known to cause concussions if falling upon someone's head. We have also been known to make tropical drinks out of coconut milk known as the Pina colada...

BTW: Rundown of the A Drop of Death SMG4 AU I was talking about,
Basically it’s a role play we’ve been doing where SMG4 and SMG3 are LITERALLY the gods of Life and Death and they’re living on Earth to protect Mario, as per the SMG4 lore, except the reason why is because Mario is basically the demigod of creation (no, no real relation to SMG4), and can cause chaos wherever he goes (think like ChiknNugget if you know that animated series :3). So they’re both there to keep him from destroying everything and to also keep him from dying.
Mr. Puzzles is also there (yes Marware and SMG34 because OTPs be OTPing) as the demigod of the stars and technology, but he became a demigod similar to Maui from Moana where the gods kinda just took pity on him after he replaced his face and made him immortal.
But then my sona Blue is also there as SMG3’s younger sibling and the Deity of Fate (since I’m also said to be the DM in a way?? Yes, we go kinda by DND rules a bit with this whole storyline), and then there’s Ash who is my twin who has the role as the Deity of Chaos.
Melony is also one of the gods and is the Goddess of Protection, basically.
Luigi is also the demigod of plants and Meggy is the demigod of the ocean.
Now, why is it called A Drop of Death? Because SMG34 coffee shop romance is the basic premise and is what drives most of the plot of this shit.
3’s Coffee n Bombs is still there and is basically his cover in the mortal world.
Also, 3 and 4 are currently frenemies with benefits in the AU from the story we’ve gotten so far.
But yeah. Blue, SMG3, and Mr. Puzzles are all redeemed villains.
Also, a few other characters pop in from time to time alongside SMG4 characters. The important ones are Johnny, Simon, and Mikel.
Might write it at some point??? IDK. Gotta talk with others about it :p

Mythology Olympics tournament round 1
Propaganda!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Galatea is the post-antiquity name popularly applied to the statue carved of ivory alabaster by Pygmalion of Cyprus, which then came to life in Greek mythology. The king Pygmalion is a sculptor who fell in love with a marble statue he had crafted with his own hands. In answer to his prayers, the goddess Aphrodite brought it to life and united the couple in marriage. The daemon of Pygmalion's goddess, animating her cult image, bore him a son Paphus—the eponym of the city of Paphos—and Metharme. Of "this ecstatic relationship", Meyer Reinhold has remarked, "there may be lurking a survival of the ancient cult of the Great Goddess and her consort".
Māui or Maui is the great culture hero and trickster in Polynesian mythology. Very rarely was Māui actually worshipped, being less of a deity (Demigod) and more of a folk hero. His origins vary from culture to culture, but many of his main exploits remain relatively similar. Tales of Māui's exploits and adventures are told throughout most of Polynesia; they can be traced back as far west as islands off New Guinea. Some exploits common to most Polynesian traditions are stealing fire for humans from the underworld, fishing up islands with his magical hook, and capturing the Sun to lengthen the days. There is a great deal of variation in the representations of Māui from nation to nation, from being a handsome young man, to being an old wise wandering priest. Although Māui was said to be very rascally or "kolohe", many of his deeds were to better the lives of his fellow people.

Hi, I wanted to say first off I love your analysis on films and storytelling! Second, I'm curious on what your thoughts are on the movie Moana?
Thank you!
I like Moana. I think it’s a really fun movie and it’s enjoyable to watch over and over again. The main character wants something relatable, she’s flawed, and she’s believable. The visuals are probably what keep people coming back, because Disney flexed so hard with animating the water and the sand and the glowing monsters.
Tumblr media
I will say, there are some pacing moments I think aren’t great, some filler stuff in the movie that I don’t think add anything to it. Like, for example, Pua. Pua doesn’t add anything to the movie. You could take him out and lose nothing. Also, the entire scene with the Kakamora.
Tumblr media
They are appealing and the giant-boat thing is interesting, but that whole sequence doesn’t really tell us anything about the characters or the world or the story that we don’t already know. It’s just an action sequence. In it, you learn: Moana is capable and committed to keeping the Heart safe, Maui is capable but a show-off, and there are monsters that are drawn to the heart. You already knew all that stuff without that scene. See what I mean?
But that doesn’t mean the movie is bad. It’s just not airtight, and that’s okay, because it still gets it’s point across.
I think the Main Idea of the movie is: “Who you truly are is a combination of where you’ve been and where you choose to go next.” Something like that.
Moana has to pick who she’s going to be and what she’s going to do from the first moment we see her.
Tumblr media
She’s already a character “born with” some traits that the other characters don’t have: she likes to explore and she’s not as afraid of the ocean and it’s dangers as everyone else. You could say she “inherits” those traits from “where she’s been;” her tribe and their Voyager Heritage.
Tumblr media
So while Moana is figuring out how “where she comes from/where she’s been” applies to “who she’ll choose to be now,” you have other characters doing the same. Her grandmother is an example of “getting to make that choice regardless of what your community is doing; you don’t have to be a product of your environment.” Meanwhile, her mom is just a “product of her environment.” And her dad had the same fearlessness Moana has, once, but after something bad happened in his past (where he’s been) he lets that bad thing inform who he chooses to be for the rest of his life: the chief that won’t take chances.
Tumblr media
Then meanwhile, Maui is letting his origins define who he chooses to be. He has to be a hero, and earn everybody’s love, because he came into the world Unloved. Ironically, the gods and the ocean helped him. But their love isn’t enough for him.
Tumblr media
See, just like Moana’s dad, Maui has a choice. He can look at the parts of his past that are good, (the ocean chose me/I’m descended from voyagers) and choose to move forward based on that, OR, he can look at the parts of his past that are bad (my own parents thought I was worthless/being a voyager killed my best friend) and choose to move forward based on that. And how you move forward, combined with where you’ve been, is what the movie says your “identity” is.
Tumblr media
I mean, think about Tamatoa, obviously. His song describes how he didn’t always used to be a living-legend monster. But now he finds his identity in the literal treasure he piles on top of himself, like trophies of conquest. Then think about Te Fiti. She’s stolen from, and misused, and lets that fact of her history turn her into a monster. A monster who can’t be calmed down enough to be transformed until Moana reminds her of “who she is.”
Tumblr media
And by the end of it, Moana ultimately decides who she’s going to be, based on the things that are true about her. Is she a powerful goddess or demigod, like Maui? No. Is she a good-enough navigator to get past Te Ka on her own? No. Is she bulletproof because the Ocean chose her? No. Does she want to be chief of her island and stay there forever? No. All of those things are true. But, what’s also true is that she wants to do something to help save the world, she does love her island at the same time as she loves the sea, and she’s willing and able to keep trying even after she fails. So she’s going to act on those things that are also true.
Tumblr media
Same thing with Maui. He’s made mistakes and he’s ruined things, including his own reputation, and he’s finding his identity in his powers, which get jeopardized. But by willingly sacrificing those things, he re-defines what his identity is. “Maui” is not a hero who has the power to do anything for mortals, and deserves their adoration. “Maui” is a good guy who’s going to keep trying to be self-sacrificial even after he makes mistakes.
Tumblr media
There’s other elements in it too, that I think deserve analysis. I mean, the movie is saying you have inherent worth. You have an identity, objectively, regardless of what you choose for yourself. Hei Hei is funny but he’s a prime example of what the movie is saying about that. He’s a stupid rooster who seems completely useless, but by the end he shows that he was worth taking along.
Tumblr media
Also, when Moana calms Te Ka, she does say “who you truly are.” And all the problems with her village stem from the fact that they don’t know, or have repressed, a part of their history and cultural identity. Her dad is ignoring something that is true about himself: he has Voyager in his nature. So the idea in the movie is that you can choose the right identity, one that lines up with “who you truly are, whether you like it or not,” or you can choose the wrong identity. What puzzles me is how “the gods” and “the ocean” fit into all of that.
I don’t love that Moana insists that the gods “don’t make you Maui. You do.” Truth of the matter is, Maui would be dead if not for the gods—never mind his powers. So in one sense, he would not have anything he has without them, including his life. Additionally, Moana would not be Moana without the ocean. She wouldn’t have the Heart of Te Fiti. She wouldn’t have found Maui in the first place, because she sucked at navigating. She wouldn’t have made it to Te Fiti if not for supernatural help. So what Moana should have said, to be accurate, is, “The gods made you Maui, and you can choose to agree with them or live a lie.”
Of course, the movie doesn’t set Moana herself up like that. She’s not dependent on the gods or the ocean for her very existence, like Maui was. But you see what I’m saying. There’s this tension between what you can choose, and who gets to decide what’s right to choose. Tamatoa probably wasn’t right to choose to be a grandma-eating, mortal-killing monster, but that’s what he chose to identify as. Te Fiti definitely wasn’t right to choose to try and melt everyone who came near her; she’s supposed to be a goddess of life, not death. That’s her “right” identity.
But Moana? Of course the most satisfying choice for her was “be the hero and keep on trying.” But the movie does set up the grandmother’s ghost, there to lead her home in case she wants to give up. And it sets that up as if it would be an okay-thing to do. Not necessarily the wrong thing—even though, if she had chosen to give up and go home, she would essentially be exactly like her father. So why is it hinted that the Chief was wrong to want to burn the voyager boats, hide from the rest of the world, and act on fear…but if Moana wants to give up, that’s okay? Because she tried? The Chief tried to be brave and be like Moana, too, and someone died because of it.
So I think some of that portion of the narrative is sloppily handled. It’s not smart to have both ideas in your movie: “You are meant for something” AND “you can choose who you want to be, and whatever you choose is what you’re meant for.” If not for Moana herself, that last part, in bold, wouldn’t be in there presenting a problem. But that scene where the Grandmother is willing to let her choose the wrong identity, yet it’s not portrayed as the “wrong” identity, messes it up.
The idea presented by all the other characters (Maui, Grandma, Te Fiti) is, “you have an identity and worth that is assigned to you by something bigger than yourself. You can either agree with it, or suppress it, live a lie, and try to find identity/worth in something else.” But Moana’s grandmother, gently allowing her to give up and acting like that’s okay, sort of ruins it.
But I’ll dive into that more another day, if you’re interested.

Maui and Tamatoa had some serious tension in the movie. Like is that just me?
Tamatoa acts like they went through a crazy demigod/crustacean breakup. And Moana is js tryna get them back together fr 😔

So we all know that will has a tattoo right, well it got me thinking that what if most demigods had tattoos. I know why would a bunch of 13-16 year olds have tattoos. Well during WWII tattoos got popular among solders for identification purposes and it’s most likely the same for demigods, we all know demigods can go through horribly tragic deaths and that can cause them to be mostly unidentifiable and tattoos help that.
Also imagine demigods get like little symbols or doodle to represent quests or monsters they’ve fought as like a way of telling their stories, kinda like Maui.
