The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was released one year ago today!

Even though I’ve dedicated at least 235 hours of my life to playing it, I’ve never shared the screenshots I took, so here are 30 pictures from my Sheikah Slate’s album (in chronological order):

Not me finally doing the 'Mattison's Independence' sidequest and getting some feels because this is a rather sweet sidequest and because you helped Hudson and Rhondson get married in Breath of The Wild in the first place and now, in Tears of the Kingdom, they have a sweet daughter that you help in her last days in Tarrey Town before she moves away to grow up in Gerudo Town.

Like, it really has been a good couple of years between BotW and ToTk in-game. This child wasn't even on the horizon yet in the first game, but here she is, old enough to make her big journey to her mother's hometown.

“Tears of the Kingdom” Headcanon Grab-Bag

Although young, Mattison is already a gifted carpenter, architect, and tailor; who builds miniature Dream Homes for the Minish living in and near Tarrey Town. She later expands her business to Gerudo Town; where the resident Minish have no need for houses, but love the furniture and clothes Mattison makes.

Though his building skills leave something to be desired, there’s a reason Addison is able to safely traverse all over Hyrule to set up signs in random locations. Once, a Yiga Blademaster knocked over one of Addison’s signs while trying to rob him. Addison proceeded to pick up the sign, and use it to beat the Blademaster into unconsciousness; earning himself a spot alongside Magda on the Yiga Clan’s “avoid at all costs” list.

Fun fact: tomato seeds can pass intact through the human digestive system. Most of the Hylian Tomatoes you find growing throughout Hyrule were accidentally planted by travelers stopping to relieve themselves.

The real reason why the Divine Beasts don’t appear is because all four were knocked out of commission by their region’s disasters. Vah Naboris was half-buried in the sand, Vah Ruta’s workings got gunked up, Vah Medoh crashed after its engines froze, and Vah Rudania was intentionally sabotaged by Yunobo while possessed by the mask.

For both “Tears of the Kingdom” and “The Wind Waker”: before everything went to hell, Ganondorf sometimes put on marionette shows for Gerudo children.

Comfy-vember day 10 lullaby

A Legend of Zelda fanfiction for @comfy-vember event Comfy-vember day 10 lullaby.

Zelda sing the royal lullaby for baby Mattison that she and Link are taking care of for Hudson and Rhondson while the couple are away. As Zelda sing, she started to remember memories of her childhood when her mother would sing that song before her bedtime, before she passed away. On the first few months after her mother's death, Zelda would ask her father King Rhoam before bedtime, "Daddy, can you sing me the royal lullaby?" and Rhoam would sometimes reply, "I'm sorry, Zelda. I'm afraid I don't know the royal lullaby well as your mother did. Just go to bed." and he would leave Zelda's bedroom, leaving the young princess to try to sleep. These memories bring tears in Zelda's eyes and Link ask her, "Zelda, are you okay? You stop singing for a moment." and Zelda quickly said, "Oh, I'm okay, Link. I was just remembering...." and Zelda pause while still holding Mattison in her arms and she said, "I was just remembering when my own mother would sing that song to me." Link give a smile of comfort that Zelda is okay as he give her a hug and said, "It is going to be okay, Zelda. You are a great mother by the way." and Zelda smile and she reply, "Thanks, Link." and Zelda get back to singing Mattison while Link move his hands on Zelda's belly.

I did the lightning temple today, and when I showed up Riju is like "I see, Link, you're here looking for Zelda." And I'm like, "No I'm not, I completed the memories and got the master sword, I know where Zelda is. I'm here for Mattison. I helped her parents send her off, and they're real worried about her."
