Another strange movie similar to 'Infinity Pool'. Although, this one was too violent and bloody to my notion.

The Douai Martyrs is a name applied by the Catholic Church to 158 Catholic priests trained in the English College at Douai, France, who were executed by the English state between 1577 and 1680.[2]

History

Having completed their training at Douai, many returned to England and Wales with the intent to minister to the Catholic population. Under the Jesuits, etc. Act 1584 the presence of a priest within the realm was considered high treason. Missionaries from Douai were looked upon as a papal agents intent on overthrowing the queen. Many were arrested under charges of treason and conspiracy, resulting in torture and execution. In total, 158 members of Douai College were martyred between the years 1577 and 1680.[1] The first was Cuthbert Mayne, executed at Launceston, Cornwall on the 29 November 1577. [3] The last was Thomas Thwing, hanged, drawn, and quartered at York in October 1680.[4] Each time the news of another execution reached the College, a Solemn Mass of thanksgiving was sung.

Many people risked their lives during this period by assisting them, which was also prohibited under the Act. A number of the "seminary priests" from Douai were executed at a three-sided gallows at Tyburn near the present-day Marble Arch. A plaque to the "Catholic martyrs" executed at Tyburn in the period 1535 - 1681 is located at 8 Hyde Park Place, the site of Tyburn convent.[5]

They were beatified between 1886, 1929 and 1987, and only 20 were canonized in 1970. Today, British Catholic dioceses celebrate their feast day on 29 October.[1]

What remains is a hot, molten planetary core and a swirling, glowing cloud of dust and debris. Mark A. Garlick The Discovery:  A glowing cosmic cloud has revealed a cataclysmic collision. Key Facts: Even within our own solar system, scientists have seen evidence of giant, planetary collisions from long ago. Remaining clues like Uranus’ tilt and the existence of Earth’s moon point to times in our distant history when the planets in our stellar neighborhood slammed together, forever changing their shape and place in orbit. Scientists looking outside our solar system to far off exoplanets can spot similar evidence that, across the universe, planets sometimes crash. In this new study, the evidence of such an impact comes from a cloud of dust and gas with a strange, fluctuating luminosity.  Details:  Scientists were observing a young (300-million-year-old) Sun-like star when they noticed something odd: the star suddenly and significantly dipped in brightness. A team of researchers looked a little closer and they found that, just before this dip, the star displayed a sudden spike in infrared luminosity.  In studying the star, the team found that this luminosity lasted for 1,000 days. But 2.5 years into this bright event, the star was unexpectedly eclipsed by something, causing the sudden dip in brightness. This eclipse endured for 500 days.  The team investigated further and found that the culprit behind both the spike in luminosity and the eclipse was a giant, glowing cloud of gas and dust. And the most likely reason for the sudden, eclipse-causing cloud? A cosmic collision between two exoplanets, one of which likely contained ice, the researchers think. In a new study detailing these events, scientists suggest that two giant exoplanets anywhere from several to tens of Earth masses crashed into one another, creating both the infrared spike and the cloud. A crash like this would completely liquify the two planets, leaving behind a single molten core surrounded by a cloud of gas, hot rock, and dust. After the crash, this cloud, still holding the hot, glowing remnant of the collision, continued to orbit the star, eventually moving in front of and eclipsing the star. Fun Facts:  This study was conducted using archival data from NASA’s now-retired WISE mission – the spacecraft continues to operate under the name NEOWISE. This star was first detected in 2021 by the ground-based robotic survey ASAS-SN (All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae).  While this data revealed remnants of this planetary collision, the glow of this crash should still be visible to telescopes like NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope. Fremantle unveil new major sponsor

Today a new partnership emerges between Bankwest and the Fremantle Football Club. It will see the iconic institution become a major co-partner of both Fremantle’s AFL and AFLW teams for at least the next four seasons.

Having been previously partnered with the club back in 2004 and 2005, the banking institutions logo will adorn the AFLW jumper for the first time in the new season.

The landmark announcement came with the unveiling of a mural on a shipping container at Fremantle’s Bathers Beach. Created by local artist Jacob Butler, it features many of the clubs icons, including Matthew Pavlich, Peter Bell, Andrew Brayshaw and Hayley Miller.

Speaking on behalf of Bankwest, EGM Jason Chan says how great the opportunity is for the two WA organisations to come together.

“We’re proud to support an iconic club that has the same values, beliefs and commitment to WA as we do.” Mr Chan said.

Speaking to the press today Fremantle CEO Simon Garlick said how excited the club is to work with an iconic WA brand, and to build a powerful partnership where both club and community can thrive.

Twins Take Series From Tigers!

The Minnesota Twins lost another extra inning game yesterday and might be asking MLB for a rule change. The runner on second rule is still being developed and the Twins have fell victim to it twice. Today, the Twins looked to get back on track in the series finale in Detroit. The Tigers struck first in the second inning and it was a pair of former Twins, who got some revenge. Jonathan Schoop started it all with a base hit to left with one-out. The next batter, Akil Baddoo tripled to the right-center field gap and put the Tigers up 1-0 after two innings of play. The Twins finally solved Matthew Boyd in the fifth when Byron Buxton lined a double to right. Miguel Sano hit a slow tapper to the right side to move Buxton to third base. The next batter, Willians Astudillo hit a sacrifice fly to right to tie the game at one apiece. The Tigers answered in the bottom of the fifth as Wilson Ramos drilled a Kenta Maeda slider out to left for a solo blast. This put the Tigers back up by a run midway through the game. The Twins got back to work in the sixth when Kyle Garlick lined a two-out single to left. Nelson Cruz beat out an infield single to extend the inning. Jorge Polanco followed with a double to left, which plated a pair and the Twins took a 3-2 lead. The Twins threw out two Tigers at the plate in the bottom of the sixth to maintain their lead. Hansel Robles threw a 1-2-3 seventh and Alex Colome threw two perfect innings to pick up the save this afternoon. The Twins won both series to start the year and head home with a (4-2) record. 

-Final Thoughts- Kenta Maeda pitched a very good ballgame and eventually got the run support he deserved. He went six innings and allowed two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and a walk. Hansel Robles fanned one in a clean seventh and Alex Colome retired all six batters for a two-inning save. Kyle Garlick led the way with two hits today. The Twins hit 1-for-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. Before the game, Brent Rooker was placed on the injured list with a cervical strain. Brandon Waddell’s contract was selected from St. Paul and the Twins placed Edwar Colina on the 60-day injured list to make room on the 40-man roster. The Twins will return home to play the Mariners in their home opener tomorrow afternoon. Marco Gonzales will face Jose Berrios in the first game with fans at Target Field since October 7th of 2019.

JUSTICE FOR ABELINO CORDOVA-CUEVAS

In 2016, Abelino (28) was allegedly driving erratically when Stockton officers Matthew Garlick and Lucas Woodward initiated a traffic stop. Abelino ran from his vehicle and fought with the officers, who used physical force and a stun gun while taking him into custody. When he was being handcuffed, they noticed he was unconscious. Emergency medical personnel performed CPR and took him to a hospital, where he later died. The autopsy indicated that the cause of death was "mechanical asphyxiation". The case was initially marked a homicide by the pathologist, then an accident by the coroner, and changed back to a homicide 2 years later upon further attention to the case. Yet, no charges were filed against the involved officers. (CA / Stockton)
