Ich Bin Ein Uri Berliner
By: Matthew Foldi In some ways, the Trump era has led to a golden age of journalism, but in far too many, it has created a perverse incentive structure that has emboldened the far-left activists who are steadily taking over America’s already-hollowing newsrooms — whose salaries are, in some cases, paid for by taxpayers across the political spectrum. Following a bombshell exposé of National…

The sponsor of the bill, Democratic delegate Sheila Ruth, said in a committee hearing that these tent cities are not harmful or dangerous to communities.
"We shouldn't be destroying homeless encampments," Ruth said.
Ruth did not respond to a request for comment.
Ruth is pushing to permit homeless encampments in Maryland as Democratic politicians roll back on similar policies across the country. The Los Angeles City Council in October banned homeless camps in 54 locations. Austin, Texas, in May overwhelmingly voted to ban public camping across the city. Seattle and Washington, D.C., have cleared out homeless camps in recent months, and New York City mayor Eric Adams (D.) on Friday released a plan to remove homeless people from public areas such as subway trains.
Baltimore City estimates that there are more than 2,000 homeless people in the city on any given night. Statewide estimates put Maryland's homeless population at more than 6,000.

The University of Memphis told faculty they could collect a $3,000 stipend for redesigning their curricula to align with the university's commitment to "diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice," according to an email sent to all faculty obtained by the Washington Free Beacon. The offer is part of the university's "Eradicating Systemic Racism and Promoting Social Justice Initiative."
Interested faculty are asked to submit a copy of syllabi to be reworked as well as a 500-word "narrative" on their "diversity, equity, and inclusion philosophy" and how the new lessons will "address disparities" in their subject area.
The University of Memphis's offer is part of a growing trend on college campuses, where the overt promotion of social justice has become the new norm. At Ohio's Kenyon College, a small liberal arts school, professors can no longer receive tenure unless they can demonstrate "promotion of an inclusive classroom environment that values diversity."
The stipend offer from a public university has triggered concerns from both faculty and lawmakers over use of taxpayer money. One faculty member who requested anonymity due to fear of retribution said the offer "makes you scratch your head" due to the school's financial restraints.
"We've had a hard time retaining good faculty at our salary levels, so anytime you see money being spent on non-student or non-faculty causes, it makes you scratch your head," the professor said. "Could this money be spent on students or retaining quality faculty rather than a progressive agenda that isn't likely supported by the taxpayers or voters of Tennessee?"

Husband of Biden’s Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo is Top Executive at Firm Funded by Chinese Government
Tumblr media
Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo has a conflict of interest. She must work with her agency to combat and counter China on the world stage, all while supporting her husband’s position as a top executive for an artificial intelligence company whose major venture capital firm investor Is backed by the Chinese government.
Danhua Capital is based in California and is financially backed by the Chinese Communist Party. They are also one of the main funders of PathAI, an artificial intelligence firm that employs Raimondo’s husband, Andy Moffit. Moffit acts as the chief people officer.
The Chinese firm lists PathAI as one of its featured “biotech and health” investments on its website, although it’s unclear how much specifically Danhua Capital has invested. According to a 2018 Reuters report on the firm, Danhua Capital was established and funded as part of the Chinese government’s “penetration of Silicon Valley.”
In 2018, the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) testified before Congress that Danhua Capital’s mission is to use capital to narrow the technology gap between China and the United States. The Washington Free Beacon reports that many staffers from CNAS, a liberal think tank, are now employed in the highest ranks of the Biden administration.

Commerce Secretary’s Husband Is Top Executive at Tech Firm Funded by Chinese Government
Gina Raimondo has major financial stake in AI firm funded by Chinese venture capital firm

A venture capital firm backed by the Chinese government is a major investor in an artificial intelligence company that counts Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo’s husband as a top executive, a potential conflict of interest as her agency works to counter China on the world stage.Danhua Capital, based in California but established with the financial backing of the Chinese Communist Party, is one of the main funders of PathAI, an artificial intelligence firm that employs Raimondo’s husband, Andy Moffit, as its chief people officer. Danhua Capital has been invested in PathAI since at least 2017, when it joined five other funders to contribute $11 million worth of seed funding for the artificial intelligence startup. It is unclear how much Danhua Capital has invested in PathAI, a private company, but the Chinese firm lists PathAI on its website as one of its featured “biotech and health” investments. Danhua Capital was established and funded with the help of the Chinese government as part of its “penetration of Silicon Valley,” according to a 2018 Reuters report on the firm. The Center for a New American Security (CNAS), a liberal think tank with former staffers now in the highest ranks of the Biden administration, testified to Congress in 2018 that Danhua Capital’s mission is to use its capital to narrow the technology gap between China and the United States.Neither Raimondo nor PathAI responded to requests for comment on Danhua Capital’s investment. As commerce secretary, Raimondo is tasked with managing the U.S. business relationship with countries across the globe, and she has emerged as one of the most pro-China voices in the administration. In a September Wall Street Journal interview, Raimondo said the United States should strengthen economic ties with China, arguing “robust” commercialengagement with China would “mitigate any potential tensions” with the global rival. The Wall Street Journalreported on Friday that Raimondo’s agency was pushing back on efforts by others in the Biden administration to block Chinese technology firms from working with American companies. Commerce officials are arguing internally, according to the report, that the administration’s tougher approach to China would hurt U.S. companies.Raimondo said on Thursday she would not urge U.S. companies to pull sponsorships from the upcoming Beijing Olympics after President Joe Biden announced a diplomatic boycott of the games over human rights abuses. “What individual companies do is entirely up to them,” Raimondo said. “We’re not going to pressure them one way or another.”

CAIR Says Biden Will Lose, 'Allah Willing'
By: Matthew Foldi As President Joe Biden grapples with how to keep anti-Israel voters in the Democrats’ fold, the head of one of the largest anti-Israel groups in America took to a Detroit mosque to lambast the president, hoping that Muslim voters will tank Biden in November and in so doing, give the White House back to Donald Trump. Vanita Gupta—whose net worth of between $42 and $187 million makes her the Biden administration's wealthiest nominee—owns at least $500,000 in Aptiv PLC, an international auto parts manufacturer chaired by her father. In contrast with Gupta's advocacy for a $15 an hour minimum wage, the company pays some of its Mexican employees hourly rates as low as $1.30, according to active job listings reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon. One job posted on Indeed.com, for example, offers a line operator role at a Zacatecas plant that pays the U.S. dollar equivalent of $260 a month for a 50-hour per week job. . . .
In her role as president and CEO of The Education Fund, Gupta made a moral case for raising the minimum wage. In a 2018 press release, Gupta said that "a living wage is not a privilege, it is a civil and human right for all." Her case for raising wages was unequivocal: "Raising wages is a moral question: do we value the people who are the engine of our economy or not? The answer must be yes."
Aptiv's business practices appear to fail Gupta's own test of valuing people who are the engines of economies.
Other positions currently advertised by the company include a full-time general operator job that pays $290 a month and a production line operator position that pays $274 a month.Gupta's personal financial disclosure forms list between $500,001 and $1 million in Aptiv stock, and she has taken profits in recent years as well. The forms show that Gupta received between $5,000 and $15,000 in dividends from Aptiv last year.

Ken Dilanian Stands By Story NBC Retracted Amid Echoes of Anti-Semitism
Matthew Foldi at the Washington Free Beacon reported NBC News on Wednesday retracted an article by intelligence reporter Ken Dilanian, telling readers that it “fell short of our reporting standards. In order to warrant publication, it needed on-the-record quotes from critics, rather than anonymous ones.” That’s fascinating, since anonymous sources were appropriate for Dilanian’s stories on Trump…

A running list of makeshift ‘sports’ being invented due to social isolation
Tumblr media
My new favorite sport is finding people who are inventing sports on TikTok.
Almost every major sports league is on hiatus, but as long as humans occupy the world, it will never be sports-less.
The coronavirus pandemic is going to teach us a lot of things. Among them — low on importance, but high on relevance to this publication — is that human beings can find a way to play games in any situation. Sports are an instinct just like blinking. And as long as we are the easily-bored rulers of the planet, we’ll find every way we can to keep ourselves amused.
Case in point: As millions commit themselves to self-isolation without any major sports competitions to distract them, many are using platforms like TikTok to show off games they jerry-rigged with the limited resources of their living arrangements. Below is a running collection of sports (and sports-ish) activities that have emerged from quarantine, graded by how sports they are.
Sports are canceled, long live sports.
Window Tennis
Here's two guys playing quarantine tennis out their windows in Spain pic.twitter.com/9ZCd0O8iah
— Ben Porter (@Ben13Porter) March 16, 2020
Case for sports:
Dexterity necessary
Promotes teamwork
Uses actual sports equipment
Case against sports:
Low repeatability
Low competitiveness
I’m afraid one of them is going to fall out of a window
How sports: 8/10. If they didn’t keep running out of tennis balls, I could watch this for hours.
Roomba Curling
Update: Not all sports are cancelled pic.twitter.com/VHmxFinflV
— Marty O (@martoo14) March 14, 2020
Case for sports:
Cleverly adapts an already-existing sport
That’s some fine brushing technique
Leaves playing surface in better shape than it started, unlike most sports
Case against sports:
This is still more of a goof
Good goof though
How sports: 3/10. Not really a sport without a competitive aspect, but manipulating Roombas feels ripe with sports potential.
Turtle Tic-Tac-Toe
“How’s nationwide self-quarantine going?” pic.twitter.com/oP7sdQiUPA
— Matthew Foldi (@MatthewFoldi) March 14, 2020
Case for sports:
An actual game, with a winner and a loser
Real competitive animosity
Employs strategy and gamesmanship
Case against sports:
One of the competitors may be playing unwillingly
Seems awfully one-sided as a result
Assuming the turtle wises up, every game should end in a cat’s game
How sports: 7/10. Short shelf life, but highly entertaining in that time.
Sock Pac-Man
Quarantine day 6. pic.twitter.com/er652Oy3Ki
— jamie (@gnuman1979) March 16, 2020
Case for sports:
As individual sports go, highly absorbing
Modicum of skill necessary
Amenable to counting stats
Case against sports:
Hard to call a high score a “success”
Only obstacle appears to be own sanity
Wait, that should maybe go in the “For” column
How sports: 6/10. A sneaky good test of will.
Ping Ping Ball Trick Shots / Matisse Thybulle Doing Anything
@itsmatisse
#quarantinelife
♬ original sound - itsmatisse
Case for sports:
High skill level required
Can easily be adapted for competition among multiple people
Features an actual professional athlete
Case against sports:
None
How sports: 10/10. Throwing odd objects into/through odd things at odd distances and angles has long been a way to combat boredom.
As an addendum, Matisse Thybulle has been experimenting with TikTok since going into self-isolation and the results are delightful. Definitely sports.
