"So, uh, what dating apps are you on? Uh, no shade, I'm... on all of them."
"Oh! Well, I'm not on them yet, I'm just starting, so... Hi! I'm Kira. I mean, I'm- I'm Sarah. You're Kira, I'm Sarah. Hi..."

Normally, I don't like reboots much. They take something key away from the original and half the time things just don't feel right.
That said....
Holy fuck do I love the new Matlock!!!
Not gonna spoil shit, but I recently watched the first two episodes and I'm hooked.
And it's... An ingenious sort of reboot. It's not "just a genderbent Matlock", it... It has a fresh new story going on and I am just...
I'm LIVING for it.
(also may have a soft spot for grandmother's who raise their grandchildren. A bias on my part, but I just... I love it.)
(that part's not a major spoiler, it's in the promos.)

Were you hoping for this good news like I was?
CBS announced a second season of Matlock starring Kathy Bates for 2025-26! You just never know lately, but I had a good feeling about this series.
Congrats to the cast and crew👏🏽

I sound like a broken record, but Matlock keeps getting better. The holiday party becomes a positive sign of the show's longevity, and Jason Ritter delivers one of my favorite performances yet. Here's my "Belly of the Beast" review:

So… we’re close to square one knowing who was involved with the Wellbrexa case, the fall break starts on the Olympia and Julian cheating plot… and that’s where it leaves us until after the break? I liked this episode fine, but last week’s would have worked a lot better as the one before the break. The who Julian slept with question is intriguing but not enough to be like THE last note of the pre-break episode, I think.

I called that Madeline was there to take down the company.
My early call is that Sara hid the docs on Olympia’s behalf. She’s too obsessed.
OR, it’s Elijah.

So I haven't watched the most recent episode, so I might totally see that I've been proven wrong when I sit down and watch the episode in ten minutes, but here's what I think right now... we're going to find out that Olympia WAS the one who buried the Welbrexa files, but that she was pressured to do so by Senior (who either did just happen to be out of town and pushed her to forge his signature to get it done quickly, or who planned to be out of town when he pressured her to do it so he could have an alibi in case anyone found out), and THAT was the thing that REALLY pushed her toward civil rights cases. And when she finds out what Maddie's up to, she'll redeem herself by helping to expose senior.
I just feel like with a story like this, when the main character has a lot of faith in a suspect in the way that Maddie does with Olympia, it's pretty common for the story to shake out in a way where something is revealed that shows or makes them believe that their faith was misplaced, but then that person does something that makes the main character realize their faith in that person was justified. So at the moment, I feel like that's kind of the natural direction this story will go.
And considering the fact that this show seems to be pretty socially conscious, it just feels like they wouldn't make the black woman the bad guy of the season. So even if Olympia was he one who did it and she wasn't forced or coerced in anyway, I still feel like she'll be redeemed in the end by doing the right thing and revealing it all.

Not really seeing the point of naming the show Matlock if Kathy's character is not really a Matlock and faking the Matlock personality aka Andy Griffith....

the ending of Matlock's first episode a very good reason why audience has grown. The ending is a entirely 'once more with clarity' if aware of the ending, but not exactly the ending, you'll open to spotting the threads.
Seeing the ending is a entirely different story that warms up your heart and throws you down the lane of 'each and every single lawyer deserves this, save for the interns and maybe that lawyer that Mattie is helping' due to the set up in introducing the main characters.
The ending is exactly the cheesy kind of thing that's seen in a old television program when it comes to the family life in a really good kind of way. A total mood whiplash from what was expected over the course of the episode. Although, very welcomed.
The story is unique and I'd like to see the mystery of the season solved before it gets canned. I'd treat it as a limited series until it's renewed for season 2, but it's really good.
Madeline deserves to go through with it all, let it be cathartic, vindictive, heartbreaking, and be at some measured peace after having fractured trust that was built.
Kathy Bates is a very good performer in this story.
Kudos!

Matlock delivers a thoughtful fall finale about working moms. “No, No Monsters” also solidifies my belief that the best triangle on the show is between Matty, Olympia, and Julian. Here’s my review:

I am also loving it so much!!
I love Kathy Bates and have been anticipating this show for ages and it exceed all of my expectations!
It's nostalgic in a very refreshing way...
