Pairing: Todoroki x reader (fem!reader)
Words: 3.3k
Rating: G~
Warnings: Behold the FLUFF, soft Todoroki hours, est. relationship, slice of life, light jealousy, getting ready together, assurance, non-sexual intimacy, this is not 'touch her you die'-- this is 'touch her and ill stare at you till you do the right thing'
Summary:
Having grown up around a sister, Shoto Todoroki held no resentment about seeing you mull about hogging the mirror. On the contrary, he’d always found the care and details girls would put into their appearances to be remarkable. To be the one watching and sharing these intimate routines with you is something he treasures-- if only he could always keep you to himself like this… not always possible in a room chock-full of heroes with wandering eyes.
A/N: my first attempt at a todoroki fic? because he's so gentle and deserves everything wonderful?? This feels so different than my recent Bakugou works, and I love the change of pace. Hope yall like it too!

Having grown up around a sister, Shoto Todoroki held no resentment about seeing you mull about hogging the mirror. On the contrary, he’d always found the care and details girls would put into their appearances to be remarkable: a personal touch that adorned what beautiful foundation was already there.
The way the makeup artists would enhance his fellow heroes at press photoshoots should be hailed as art. He didn't see why makeup brushes were marketed any differently than those belonging to a painter. Industry-performing nonsense, he supposed.
When you finally got a spare moment to yourself in this hotel suite in Kobe getting ready for dinner,  your circle of best girlfriends -brought into your life by his introduction- were deciding on dresses when Todoroki came over through the open conjoining room unnoticed, looking for you.
You’re still robed up post-shower and kept calling out answers to Kirishima and Midoriya on what to wear across the room. Bakugou had even swallowed his pride enough to ask you to get the ‘shitty cufflinks’ on his ‘shitty jacket’ right because his ‘shitty fingers’ couldn’t quite manage it. You’d become something of an invaluable resource by nature- maternal instincts seep from you so easily- but unfortunately have put you in last place in terms of getting ready.
As Todoroki entered your space, you were mid makeup; eyes almost done, but before lips or anything else past your light moisturizer. You caught his eye a bit embarrassed.
"Uh--hey, hon’~" you greet with complete fondness, despite his quiet intrusion.
With a small word of greeting back, he took a mental picture of this serene state of you. Something he can remember when he’s past the point of exhaustion on hour ten of patrol, and needs a lifeline.
Unphased by the sight of piles of toiletry bags and finishing tools galore, he took a seat along the edge of the high-walled tub, pulling out his phone for a second while you processedwhat he was doing: making himself comfortable.
"Sorry, did you need the- um?"
He looked back up at you, gesturing limply towards the toilet, but he dismisses that suggestion. Certainly wasn't in line or anything for that; only for you.
"No,” Todoroki dismissed calmly, “ just wondered if they were finally letting you be.”
You appeared pleased at his reasoning, jutting your hair back over your shoulder as he sat there smiling a bit in admiration. Phone’s properly set to silent now; nothing to interrupt the nice lofi streaming from your phone’s tiny speaker.
"I'll be done in a sec, it doesn’t take me too long. Just gotta, y'know- 'doll myself up'. Got a lot of heads to turn here tonight.”
Todoroki glares at you in a silly deadpan. "You're lovely in the company of one as you are in a hundred, but if more makes you happy, do whatever you'd like."
You turned back to the mirror to carry on, in view to catch him looking over at you every now again in the reflection. Your effortless flair for polishing was a thing to witness firsthand. He was hardly bored, watching you; as entertained as can be rather than begging ‘are you done yet’ through tired stares.
"Guess you're really not one of those ‘no makeup’ guys,” you chime from the vanity.
"Hm?" Todoroki livens up as you engage with him after a long stretch of silence.
"Most boys have pretty strong opinions about girls in full face. Like, ‘you really shouldn’t wear so much’. Or on the flip side, like ‘ooooo she's gotta wear red’ or ‘make sure it matches the nails’ or how it takes too long..."
From your poised exterior, Todoroki finds your swirling stream of consciousness a funny contrast when you let him in on your thought process.
With a patient smirk, he merely tilts his head at you, “Did you ask for my opinion?”
You’re torn for a minute- clear that you're worried about offending him and quick to respond,
“--Not that I'd hate it~ but I don't think so, no,” you answer.
“Because it doesn’t matter,” Todoroki answers you comfortably. “It’s your hobby, sweetheart. You should enjoy it for you.”
Your freshly finished eyes crinkle at him, “Just don’t want you bored out of your mind over there, not even having a say.”
"Do you mind my being here?"
Peaceably, you keep his stare. "No, not at all."
"Then don’t worry about what I think. You like doing it, I get the time with you, so you can take as long as you’d like."
Capping the mascara, you double tap your phone to illuminate it, “We’re good on time, right?”
Confident in a companionable sort of way, Todoroki defends that however much time you need, you’ll get. He’d give you the moon if he could.
“Time’s yours. No rush.”
It’s the truth; Todoroki benefits from either state of you– whether it's brushed on or not, he gets the chance to soak in your beauty as you allow him to. The intimacy of these lovely feminine practices is what appeals to him anyway. It could be watching you dole out your extensive skincare or something as simple as handing you your prized chapstick when it’s cold; Todoroki just loves watching you tend to yourself– and letting him in on the secrets.
He allowed his head to rest on the wall as he watched you put highlighter and a deep lip color on that complemented your dress of choice. Then as you brought some hair up to see the whole finished look, it’s only at this stage that he piped up again.
"What color is your dress?"
You turned a bit to the open entryway closet, where your roommates all sufficiently moved in and prepped for the weekend’s events. A mix of hero garb and formalwear lined the maxxed out closet.
"It's that black sleeveless one in there, if you don’t mind grabbing it?"
As you were now in the middle of putting on an earring, Todoroki passed behind you to do just that.
He came back with the hotel’s branded hangar, and you pulled it up to pet the fabric in appreciation.
"I like it cuz it’s super soft on the inside. No pockets though," you made a teasing whisper mocking where the inert should be. Todoroki rolled his eyes playfully.
"You women and your pockets."
"They're all designed by men who don't understand! You know that, right?"
"Are you going to keep complaining, or put it on?"
You turned with a little sway, "Ahhh, now I see why I have an audience..."
Todoroki suddenly found an ounce of shame and shy, contrasting eyes, and he stamped on an apology to not appear so hungry, "U-um, sorry. I'll uh–,"
You dismissed his gentlemanly move to exit– and tugged him forward instead. You leaned in close to his ear,
"I'll be right out. Don't go far– I’ll need you."
Not a minute later, you met the room with half the girls fiddling over Iida’s suit and half over Midoriya’s finishing touches when Mina squealed your return:
"OH YES, BABE! This is IT!!"
Eyes all shot to you in your final reveal. You gave the little model leg stance under the attention, highlighting the leg slit and jeweled accent down the leg. The move made poor ‘Deku’ choke at the sight, and Kirishima froze all coherent thought for a split second (as he did for just about all his friends).
Todoroki turned around from his view by the window to meet your expectant eye. Despite having seen every bit of your outfit come together, he completed a full check out on you and didn't hide his smirk well.
"Oh my God, Todoroki, you’re ogling– quit that!!" Hagakure chided.
"Not until she quits that."
His admiration of you held no shame whatsoever– which you accepted a long time ago.
"I'll -erm- just say you look great, chief! Not anything else, man!!" Kirishima was quick to appease Todoroki’s acute glare at the enthusiasm for you, his coworker. Kirishima would ordinarily argue you were his work wife, but not in front of ‘Icyhot’.
"Thanks hunny," You smiled innocently enough, but ultimately joined Todoroki’s warm side.
He outstretched an arm out to pull you in, only to notice you twirl around to him to show where you did need his help after all. Pinned down by your precariously positioned hand behind your back, Todoroki could now see you needed zipped up.
A caring touch was needed, and his heart softened unfairly with the insinuation that you wanted his touch to be the one to do it. By your expectant look over your shoulder, it’s sweetly implied that you’d never consider anyone else for the job.
Once done, your turning back around allowed you the space to straighten out his lapel more affectionately– he didn’t see what about this was particularly endearing, but your pampering gesture brings a swoon from all the women in the room.
Todoroki zoned out for a moment– holding close the feeling that he never wanted to be at an event where you weren't by his side like this. His hands settle appropriately to your waist in a comfortable hug while you admire his suit with surprise.
"This cut is really nice on you. You need to remember this one for the agency dinner next month!"
He tips his head down a bit at the compliment but turned it around to you quickly,
"I could say the same for you; but I have the feeling anything you choose would have the same effect as this. You sure wear the dress, not the other way around."
"Flatterer."
A warmhanded brush of fingers to your neck, just as you like it,
"Gorgeous."
"Oh GOD,” Bakugou revolts, “don't make me PUKE, ICYHOT!!"
That night, each step you took had Todoroki seeking you out- the clack of your heel piquing his attention.
His magnetic attraction fell gently over you tonight as always… though your reaction to his sights on you would drag him near the rest of the way: a fierceness he adored about you. How you protected the bond you shared -displaying your love loudly- was an appreciated sign of commitment, whether it took the form of a hand in his, your body pressed close into his side, or through a whispered word meant only for his ears.
One point in the night after supper, Todoroki parted from you briefly. Not far, but you’d strayed off with a few mutual friends engrossed in your own conversation, the social butterfly you were that outshone his more withdrawn personality. The assembly brought some pro-heroes from several districts together and acted as both networking and reunion for those separated by vocation.
You're catching up with an old friend of yours who Todoroki can almost name– if not for the itch of irritation clouding his long term memory.
There were many whom you’d shared stories of from your past, though the man before you carried a classically flirty energy Todoroki felt he should recall. He’s half listening to Kirishima’s recent advances to the old flame the redhead was tending to– in favor of monitoring the situation involving his own.
Fortunately, his powers of observation suit him well even in instances like this, where Todoroki can sense from your neck’s tilt alone that you’re locked in conversation, but don’t perceive a threat in your eyes.
–But unfortunately, it did little to settle his own reservations. Firm reservations. The man had you twirl a bit in an old 1940s style show over your outfit, which only sent poor Todoroki into alert mode.
He held his glass a bit tighter and tried to not stare bullets into the brunette, yet failed.
Kirishima’s brief little nudge righted Todoroki’s damning sights on your present company. The unspoken word he held with a raised brow gave Todoroki a fair amount of encouragement, and a check on his palpable jealousy.
“Y’know,” Kirishima took in the sights of the exquisite lighting above their heads, “For a guy who’s got the most temperamental quirk I’ve seen, you’ve got a pretty funny way of showing when you’re unnerved.”
Todoroki bit his tongue from spouting something harsh back, “What do you mean.”
“Normally when folks get hot over something, you can see steam comin’ out their ears, Tom & Jerry style~” Kirishima chuffed. “You on the other hand– take an icy approach.”
Looking down for once, Todoroki noted he now held a frosted glass– more than his crafted cocktail iceblock should do.
“But hey, keeps your drink from getting watered down, eh? Wish I could have that sort of tell!”
Kept in check by ‘Riot’s playful sense of security, Todoroki calmed his own flare of green.
It certainly wasn’t his best quality; there was still plenty in his nature that he’s been actively trying to overwrite. His owning of his emotions is work he implements in everyday risk and battle. Though in his efforts to not let those same extreme emotions tear his fledgling little family apart (the one he shares with you), Todoroki tends to take a polarizing approach to his role as a supportive partner than the one his father modeled for him:
Where his old man viewed his wife as subservient and held strict boundaries within their dynamic, the tie he held to you was a treasured partnership. An act of give and take, but one he chose to adore and never take for granted– not for an instant. He was simply protective– at least he was trying to be, in the most even-tempered way.
It was a tender thing he was gifted, in a surprising turn of fate he believed he may never have found for himself… but one thing Todoroki swears to is that coming into your favor was a balm for him. Something steady, something breathing, a lifeline that enriched everything it touched, including his view on the very world itself.
Not just because you were the woman he fully intended to marry someday: but that you were a light he wanted to keep warm and safe and never let anything threaten that shine.
Just relying on the constancy that the very thought of you brings to mind eases Todoroki’s spirit, and he can now react to Kirishima’s asides about Bakugou and Midoriya’s current rivaling ‘dance’ around the dessert table with a lighter heart.
After ignoring where his mind had fallen away to for a moment, a touch brought his attention back to you, who was leading said peacock over. You got real close into Todoroki’s space, a hint he grappled onto immediately as you lowered your tone of voice… purposefully, to make the point clear,
"Hey sweetheart, I brought a old friend over I'd like you to meet!”
You touched along his chest for security, but it’s a sincere move that would assure even a perfect stranger what the nature of your relationship is.
“After all,” -casual as you sound, you’re fixed on Todoroki alone- “I wanted everyone here in my circle to know who the next top hero in Japan is... so they can say they knew him when~"
Todoroki looked from you back to the brunette, who seemed a bit taken aback at your crystal clear relationship status now. And boy, did Shoto want nothing more than to play into that.
But in his perfect, practiced graces, Todoroki met your friend’s gaze with a hand reeling you in close by the waist.
Ordinarily he’d bow or at the very least extend a hand to shake– but pocketing his other hand instead felt like the more appropriate move. A confident stance, assured by your presence once again rubbing at his back unseen.
"How sweet of you, darling. Shoto Todoroki, a pleasure."
Pleasantries are shared, and you never budge once from his hold even to switch weight from one foot to the other. Todoroki feels every bit the power couple, with you by his side.
Once your company did leave after brief chatter again (primarily led by you) did you almost chortle into Todoroki’s neck,
"Oh my God, Sho~ you are steaming."
Todoroki keeps a calm exterior, but hints at his earlier irritation playfully enough in a crowd full of people, "Why was he touching you."
"He's from the islands down south, super big dance culture. Plenty of those dance nights at the student union were headed up by him alone, back in the day….”
But you didn't want to excuse your man's feelings as you caught his eyes,
“Though as it seemed he was willing to pick up some things where he feels we left off, I had to see him straight,” you ran relaxed fingers down his coat’s opening. “Figured I'd let you have a bit of fun, and I'm very glad you behaved."
Todoroki moved you into the music that began queueing up at the moment, so it seemed more like a dance.
"I think I'm having second thoughts about the dress now,” he murmurs with a crafty eye to you. Not aimed to be mean, because there’s plenty of love in his look to spare, “I'm not so sure it sends the right message."
Centering to the front of him, you relished in Todoroki’s duality of design. "Oh?"
"He was drooling over you," He sounded firm.
"And you're not?" You teased by his ear. That comment pressed you closer to him. Maybe a touch possessive, but still giving you plenty of space to settle and push back if you wished.
Your voice dripped of its soft nature you reserved for him- genuine, and not the customer-service persona you gave off when in control…
"This dress was for me and you, y’know. No one else. See how it matches?” you trace along the inner lining of the jacket, fingers dipping inside where the warmth is captured.
You draw a special kanji over his heart, a blend of your initials hidden by his coat~
“I’d have my mark on you too, if it wouldn’t look so obvious. Just you, my prince."
Todoroki smiled a bit towards your shoulder, appeased for the moment, catching your eyes again, "I'd like to kiss you for that. But I know how much you worked on all this."
You smirked. Without a word, you smudged a finger to your lips  brusquely, and showed no color at all left behind on the finger.
"Girl magic: kiss-proof."
Todoroki’s eyes lit for a second before he grinned again. This time, he caught the gaze of another couple standing off to the wall who seemed to be noticing you two, and he very purposefully decided on giving a show, no matter who sees. He’s insanely proud of you, after all, so he could risk a little expression tonight.
He caressed your neck gently and brought you into a close, full kiss that you chuckled lowly into. He looked blissed and a touch smug on standing back.
"Better, hon’?"
"Better," He smoothed a hand up your back until he took your hand to stay in his arm, "although I think I'll stick a little closer to you tonight, all the same."
"No complaints here," You took a walk through here and there, and managed to claim a view by the tall windows overlooking the nightlife below. "--especially with you trying out a new pet name back there..."
"You liked that, huh?" Todoroki came to stand behind you, and you leaned back into his hug.
You tugged his arms around to where they caressed your sides and swayed a bit comfortably.
He smiled and chuckled into your back, pressing a little kiss onto your forehead offered to him.
Shoto stands with you as you're looking far out into the city, but all he cares about is the window's reflection on you:
Not a paint stroke out of place, even after his kiss. A portrait the room should very well be envious of, but that he’s fully secure is all for him.
"Darling it is."

Summary: Tilly Marie nearly loses faith in her passion as she refuses to listen to everyone who told her to quit. Everyone but one. And it’s the man she met years ago at a racing event she didn’t want to attend. Who would have thought that her father’s partial ownership of three brands could take her to the zone of Mercedes and meet the love of her life?
Content warning: Age gap, mentions of an absence of a father figure, brief use of explicit language, mentions of nepotism. Fictional family and business involved (Hearth family and Hearth Automotives Group).
Note: I did a funny haha series. I literally just started on this yesterday. I'm writing the third part right now, hoping to work on this as much as possible. Again, I am still new to F1?? Please forgive me.
Enjoy! xx
i. what a beautiful sight that was
It was the year 2006. The 21-year-old me did not want to attend on behalf of my father’s role to whatever this business was he was handling. I remember being extremely confident about walking up the stage to get my master's.
I had always been told to be an intelligent girl. One that utilizes her skills in any way possible. Everyone praised me, and my maternal grandparents encouraged me to continue my education. My paternal grandparents expressed their admiration with a pat on the head and a kiss. My mother hugged me tightly and hung nearly every certificate I had captured. My father, however… he couldn’t get over the fact that he never had a son—one who would run the company someday and perhaps become a world champion.
He lacked boys for his fatherhood experience, so he turned to me and set a list of expectations he had of me. He was still as healthy as ever. He could bench if he felt like it. But he still wanted to instill some responsibility in his companies and passed it on to me.
But I earned my master's in Journalism and was halfway through my Bachelor's in Marketing. What did I know about motorsport?
This didn’t mean anything to my father. He wanted me to handle the business and pass it off to the next person if needed. He just wanted his surname to remain known in the industry and public. He trusted me to handle particular areas that he thought I could do.
But it was 2006, and I wasn’t given the responsibilities until years after. I was simply in Dubai to watch and entertain myself while cameras tried to get a glimpse of me—the Heiress. I was the next to become a shareholder in the businesses my father and grandfather (and his father) had put their money on. I was an eye candy—the strong woman of the Hearth family. And I was just in Dubai to watch men race lap after lap while they stayed there for hours, like mad men.
And my father didn’t even tell me anything. I’ve only been exposed to observation. But my brain wasn’t made to be awake for a day, and my eyes preferred a piece of entertainment from my research paper.
But my mind gave me a little nudge and turned my head to look at the man who’ll have me thinking for years. His helmet was on his side, his fingers tapping to keep him focused. He was tall. He was tall and handsome—a deadly combination.
The combination was too deadly, and I only realized this when he caught me looking. I hadn’t turned my head quite fast enough as I continued to examine and annotate my anecdotal record, pretending that my face wasn’t blushing.
It turned out he was just as intrigued as he was handsome. Fucking great. He sat across the chaise lounge I stiffly sat on, his smile I could barely see from my peripheral vision.
Knowing he probably wouldn’t leave, I stopped pretending I was studying and looked up only to see his lips spread in amusement. His smile. Oh god. Couldn’t this man be the perfect man to have existed?
“You’re not here to study,” he chuckled softly, “Because you’d be in the wrong place otherwise.”
Of course, I hadn’t passed up the chance to roll my eyes jokingly.
The conversation lasted forever, and not once did he gloss over the screens to see how his team was doing at the track. He listened to me as I complained about the research I had to do for book publications. He wondered how I’d gotten through my master's at 21. Then he decided to guess while I provided my answer too.
“You’re gifted.”
“Generational wealth.”
Then silence filled the atmosphere as if we could only hear the people talk in the background. My laughter after the pause made his mouth grin as he silently laughed. One of us was more biased than the other, I thought to myself. My success at school came from the high 90s that I achieved. My family's money made it easier for me to get in without any trouble with tuition.
But the conversation didn’t last as long as I thought it would have, as someone who wore the same racing suit came barging at the door. The man frantically gestured for my company to follow him.
He looked at me, his eyes keeping me in one place as I shifted. He could only say, “It was nice talking to you.”
And all I could offer him was a stutter of, “Y- yeah, a pleasure to meet you. Y- your name is…”
But his teammate beat him to it before he could utter his name. “Torger!”
Then he looked at me again with a brief nod as he walked out of the room.
He was a lovely man. There’s nothing nicer than an equally attractive and genuine man. I liked every single second that I spent with him. And I’ve only known him for fifteen minutes.
And that remained as that. We’ve only known each other for fifteen minutes. When they announced the race winners, I was already on my flight back to England. I was already reporting to my father about what I saw.
I told him about what I saw and experienced. But never once did I say to him about a driver of the winning team and how I’ve practically fallen for him. Because I haven’t fallen, he was just lovely.
What a beautiful sight he was.

At present, it is standard among practically all communities to fête the family as a bastion of relative safety from state persecution and market coercion, and as a space for nurturing subordinated cultural practices, languages, and traditions. But this is not enough of a reason to spare the family. Frustratedly, Hazel Carby stressed the fact (for the benefit of her white sisters) that many racially, economically, and patriarchally oppressed people cleave proudly and fervently to the family. She was right; nevertheless, as Kathi Weeks puts it: “the model of the nuclear family that has served subordinated groups as a fence against the state, society and capital is the very same white, settler, bourgeois, heterosexual, and patriarchal institution that was imposed by the state, society, and capital on the formerly enslaved, indigenous peoples, and waves of immigrants, all of whom continue to be at once in need of its meagre protections and marginalized by its legacies and prescriptions” (emphasis mine). The family is a shield that human beings have taken up, quite rightly, to survive a war. If we cannot countenance ever putting down that shield, perhaps we have forgotten that the war does not have to go on forever.
This is why Paul Gilroy remarked in his 1993 essay “It’s A Family Affair,” “even the best of this discourse of the familialization of politics is still a problem.” Gilroy is grappling with the reality that, in the United Kingdom as in the United States, the state’s constant disrespect of the Black home and transgression of Black households’ boundaries, as well as its disproportionate removal of Black children into the foster-care industry, understandably inspires an urgent anti-racist politics of “familialization” in defense of Black families. Both the British and American netherworlds of supposedly “broken” homes (milieus that are then exoticized, and seen as efflorescing creatively against all odds), have posed an obstinate threat to the legitimacy of the family regime simply by existing, Gilroy suggests. The paradox is that the “broken” remnant sustains the bourgeois regime insofar as it supplies the culture, inspiration, and oftentimes the surrogate care labor that allows the white household to imagine itself as whole. As a dialectician, “I want to have it both ways,” writes Gilroy, closing out his essay. “I want to be able to valorize what we can recover, but also to cite the disastrous consequences that follow when the family supplies the only symbols of political agency we can find in the culture and the only object upon which that agency can be seen to operate. Let us remind ourselves that there are other possibilities.
There are other possibilities! Traces of the desire for them can be found in Toni Cade (later Toni Cade Bambara)’s anthology The Black Woman, published in America in 1970, not long after the publication of the US labor secretariat’s “Moynihan report,” The Negro Family: The Case for National Action. The open season on the Black Matriarch was in full swing. And certainly not all of the anthology’s feminists, in their valiant effort to beat back societal anti-maternal sentiment (matrophobia) and the hatred of Black women specifically (more recently known as “misogynoir”), make the additional step of criticizing familism within their Black communities. But one or two contributors do flatly reject the notion that the family could ever be a part of Black (collective human) liberation. Kay Lindsey, in her piece “The Black Woman as a Woman,” lays out her analysis that: “If all white institutions with the exception of the family were destroyed, the state could also rise again, but Black rather than white.” In other words: the only way to ensure the destruction of the patriarchal state is for the institution of the family to be destroyed. “And I mean destroyed,” echoes the feminist women’s health center representative Pat Parker in 1980, in a speech she delivered at ¡Basta! Women’s Conference on Imperialism and Third World War in Oakland, California. Parker speaks in the name of The Black Women’s Revolutionary Council, among other organizations, and her wide- ranging statement (which addresses imperialism, the Klan, and movement- building) purposively ends with the family: “As long as women are bound by the nuclear family structure we cannot effectively move toward revolution. And if women don’t move, it will not happen.” The left, along with women especially of the upper and middle classes, “must give up ... undying loyalty to the nuclear family,” Parker charges. It is “the basic unit of capitalism and in order for us to move to revolution it has to be destroyed.”
Forty years later, the British writer Lola Olufemi is among those reminding us that there are other possibilities: “abolishing the family...” she tweets, “that’s light work. You’re crying over whether or not Engels said it when it’s been focal to black studies/black feminism for decades.” For Olufemi as for Parker and Lindsey, abolishing marriage, private property, white supremacy, and capitalism are projects that cannot be disentangled from one another. She is no lone voice, either. Annie Olaloku-Teriba, a British scholar of “Blackness” in theory and history, is another contemporary exponent of the rich Black family-abolitionist tradition Olufemi names. In 2021, Olaloku-Teriba surprised and unsettled some of her followers by publishing a thread animated by a commitment to the overthrow of “familial relations” as a key goal of her antipatriarchal socialism. These posts point to the striking absence of the child from contemporary theorizations of patriarchal domesticity, and criticize radicals’ reluctance to call mothers who “violently discipline [Black] boys into masculinity” patriarchal. “The adult/child relation is as central to patriarchy as ‘man’/‘woman,’” Olaloku-Teriba affirms: “The domination of the boy by the woman is a very routine and potent expression of patriarchal power.” These observations reopen horizons. What would it mean for Black caregivers (of all genders) not to fear the absence of family in the lives of Black children? What would it mean not to need the Black family?

the dark reality behind dairy
By World of Vegan.
Within the dairy realm, two narratives intertwine: the plight of the mothers and that of their offspring.
Artificial insemination serves as a harsh introduction to the dairy industry’s cycle of exploitation. Unlike the natural way to get pregnant, female cows within commercial dairy farms are subjected to an intrusive process that blatantly violates their reproductive system.
This invasive procedure forces cows into a perpetual cycle of pregnancies, denying them the right to choose their mates or control their reproductive destinies.
Just like human mothers, a female cow has a nine-month gestation period. And after giving birth, calves typically nurse from their mothers for 6 months or longer.
But in the dairy industry, once her calf is born, she’ll experience a mere day or two of companionship—sometime less—before her calf is forcefully separated from her to prevent the loss of even a drop of valuable milk, which would cut into the profits of the dairy industry. This is the last time the mother will see her baby.
Like most moms, cows have powerful maternal instincts and are extremely distressed when their babies are taken away from them. Their anguished bellows can be heard for up to a mile away. Some cows are so distraught that they will even stop eating.
Post-separation, the mother cows are subjected to mechanical milking—a stark contrast to the nostalgic image of a farmer hand-milking a cow.
As soon as her baby is taken away, the mother will be hooked up to a milking machine to take the milk that her body made for her calf. In natural circumstances, nursing cows produce just 12 to 15 pounds of milk each day and calves nurse all day long.
But in the majority of today’s dairy operations, a mother cow will produce a staggering 50 pounds of milk daily. The pressure of her painfully loaded udder will only be relieved by mechanical milking twice a day, which often leads to mastitis and other excruciatingly painful conditions.
As time progresses, milk production wanes, initiating a vicious cycle of repeated artificial impregnation, bereavement, and mechanical milking.
This cycle persists yearly until these cows meet a grim fate—slaughtered as adolescents, their natural lifespan of 25 to 30 years cut short. Their bodies, devoid of milk-production utility, are often processed into meat products, most often burgers.
Shifting focus to their offspring, USDA statistics reveal that 97 percent of calves are separated from their mothers within the first 12 hours of birth.
Female calves, like their mothers, confront a bleak fate. Denied maternal nourishment, they are confined in solitary and often cramped pens, where they have no way to find comfort or nurse from their mother.
Replacing mother’s milk with a formula, they endure this existence for 6-8 months, foregoing a natural upbringing characterized by play, bonding, and freedom.
Once fertile, the cycle of forced impregnation, grief, mechanical milking, and eventual slaughter begins anew.
50 percent of the babies born will be male, and a male calf has little financial value to the dairy industry because he’ll never produce milk.
In most situations he’ll either be kept and raised for beef, slaughtered immediately for cheap veal, or sent to a torturous facility to become higher priced veal.
On a veal farm the baby calf will be confined in a small space in which he can barely move and fed an iron-poor diet until he becomes severely anemic. His muscles will atrophy, and at just a few months of age, he’ll be slaughtered. His tender, pale flesh will be sold as veal.
You may be surprised to learn that marketing buzzwords like “Organic, Grass-Fed and Free-range” you might see on meat, dairy, and egg labels don’t guarantee better lives for the animals.
The mechanics remain the same, including the unavoidable separation of baby from mother, painful surgical mutilations without anesthetic, factory-style milking, and premature slaughter.
These terms, designed to attract compassionate consumers, fail to dismantle the core mechanisms of exploitation.
Considering the immense suffering, is the fleeting gustatory pleasure of cow’s milk truly worth it? The array of delicious, plant-based alternatives renders this question obsolete. Opting for both taste and compassion aligns with our evolving food landscape.
Our grocery choices equate to votes for the world we desire. While personal, these choices transcend the individual, impacting the lives of others.
Opting for animal-based dairy entails contributing to a continuum of suffering. Awareness fuels change. Acknowledging one’s past contributions to cruelty ignites a journey toward more humane choices. Armed with knowledge, we navigate a path of greater compassion, for when we know better, we can genuinely do better.

Despite [Kate Richards] O'Hare's prominent position in the Socialist Party, on the whole the party itself paid little attention to developing a feminist stance. Its leaders actively discouraged specific women's activities until 1907, when the International Congress of Socialists formally endorsed woman suffrage. After that the American Socialist Party's neglect of women's needs became a point of controversy. The Socialist Woman (later the Progressive Woman) resulted from the awakened interest. Nevertheless, despite the success of the new journal, party leaders disapproved and ultimately retracted support from the venture. Mari Jo Buhle has argued that the actions of the Socialist Party were shortsighted in the extreme, and has suggested that feminists “would continue to search for an appreciation of woman's struggle among Socialists and would become discouraged by its absence.” The Socialist Party of America, during its peak years from 1908 through 1912, was the closest the American left has come to creating a mass movement; that the women who participated in it were ignored or, perhaps more insultingly, patronized shows the severity of the difficulties women faced when they tried to act as both feminists and radicals within the organized left.
The enthusiastic reception of Socialist Woman suggests that the women of the Socialist Party of America struggled against the attitudes of their male comrades. The Socialist Labor Party, however, provided a contrasting picture of women who emphasized their hostility toward the feminists. Olive M. Johnson, in a pamphlet written in 1907 for the express purpose of attracting women to the party, seemed bent on putting potential converts in their proper (subordinate) place. Specifically denying the feminist claim of sisterhood (the belief that women by virtue of their sex share a common bond regardless of social class), Johnson proclaimed that "as the concern of this pamphlet is to find . . . women who are or should be directly interested in the Socialist Movement, we have . . . nothing to do with the women of the upper classes. It is the working women that concern us." Her antifeminism at times reflects disdain for women themselves, as in the following claim: "There is not a woman alive, unless she is utterly blinded by prejudices, who will not admit that woman's best friend is man and that her worst enemy is woman herself." Feminists, she contended, were inspired simply "by a desire to rule and domineer" rather than by a justifiable anger because of sex-based discrimination. As a consequence, women's rights advocates “were bound to make themselves ridiculous [and] overbearing.” The socialist woman differed from such unnatural creatures: A tenacious fighter for the cause of proletarian revolution, she nonetheless gloried in stereotypical feminine and maternal qualities. After all, "nothing is more repugnant than the unsexed, boldfaced, rude, masculine girl, unless it be the weazened, physically deteriorated, effeminate man." Unlike the rest of the socialist movement, Johnson, in speaking for the Socialist Labor Party, subscribed to the view that women ought not to participate in the labor market. Although Kate Richards O'Hare opposed work outside the home for mothers, she did not extend her proscription to other women. Johnson, on the other hand, argued specifically that industrial labor "unsexes [woman] and makes her unfit to become a wife and mother."
The Socialist Labor Party published and endorsed Johnson's pamphlet, indicating that woman's role in the creation of the new order would be that of helpmeet, and refusing to extend a promise of equality after the revolution. Under socialism women would continue to behave in traditional ways, Johnson affirmed, since socialist women “are modest and quiet and proud of being womanly and ready for the work they can do, whatever it may be. They do not try to imitate man. Why should they? Their usefulness consists of being women! They do not aspire to the place of man. Why should they? They have . . . made a place for themselves.”

CYBERPUNK 2077.
according to canon: canada was one of the countries least affected by the collapse. vast resources and a small population made life easier. the slow rise in global temperature made the region an agricultural paradise.  a nice place to live, if the corpos let you.   being such a stable area , most of the major corporations set up large operations across the country. open corporate military force kept the american nomad population from streaming over the border. many of the smaller nomad families did find their way into canada, but only with the full cooperation of the corporations in question. many of the small families were hired and trained wholesale. CHOOH2 production is now one of canada's largest agro-exports. the new luxury market in hardwoods is its largest growing industry. but the true scope of the canadian economy encompasses all of the major corporations, products and services of the world. the national government is all but gone, replaced by corporations.
claudette morel grew up in a poor, diverse neighborhood in montreal to loving, working class parents who encouraged her interests in sciences. her maternal family were climate refugees, nomads of the thelas nation from south america who managed to enter canada’s borders after the collapse. claudette’s single-minded pursuit in organic chemistry accelerated her academic career and allowed her to have amazing job opportunities in the pharmaceutical industry. inevitably, she was hired as an intern by  biotechnica in night city, california. progressing quickly in her field of expertise, claudette was promoted to field specialist. sponsors provided resources and seed capital to support her research on the coastal edges of the badlands, far away from the city. living out of a secure prefabricated lab-unit on a foggy, isolated beach in coronado, she studies the potential for seaweed and aquatic algae as a cheap, bountiful food source that would be able to grow one billion tons of resources in just 6 months; including dry food, biofuel, bio-plastics, carbon-capture, and fertilizer. undersea agriculture can potentially be commercialized to provide a cheap alternative food source to the insects raised in protein farms, and aid with marine restoration to rebuild the local fish population.
claudette spent eighteen months living on the southern california coast, intermittently returning to night city to give mandated in-person reports on her progress for the company’s head scientists. in the badlands, she has had to learn to be resilient and vigilant, defending her research from nomad raiders hoping to steal valuable technology from corpos... or worse, death squads paid by megacorporation petrochem’s subsidiaries to eliminate competition in the energy industry. the lab is built to survive bombings and artillery fire, protected by deadly quadruped robots that patrol its perimeters. several of her cousins are members of the thelas nation, who protect the borders of the americas’ west coasts, collaborating with biotechnica’s mercenaries to offer additional security.

The Science Behind Amniocentesis Needles: How They Work and Why They’re Essential
The amniocentesis needle market has witnessed significant growth in recent years, driven by the increasing prevalence of genetic disorders and the rising demand for prenatal testing. Amniocentesis is a medical procedure that involves the extraction of a small amount of amniotic fluid from the uterus of a pregnant woman. This fluid contains fetal cells and can be used for genetic testing to detect chromosomal abnormalities and genetic disorders.
The global amniocentesis needle market size is expected to reach USD 229.4 Million in 2032 and register a steady revenue CAGR of 2.8% during the forecast period, according to latest analysis by Emergen Research. One of the key drivers of the amniocentesis needle market is the growing awareness and acceptance of prenatal testing. With advancements in medical technology, more pregnant women are opting for prenatal testing to assess the health and well-being of their unborn babies. Amniocentesis is considered one of the most reliable and accurate methods for detecting genetic disorders, such as Down syndrome, cystic fibrosis, and neural tube defects. This has led to an increased demand for amniocentesis needles and related products.
Another driver of the market is the increasing maternal age. Advanced maternal age is associated with a higher risk of chromosomal abnormalities in the fetus. As women delay childbirth various reasons, the need for prenatal testing, including amniocentesis, becomes more crucial. This trend has contributed to the growth of the amniocentesis needle market.
However, there are certain restraints that may hinder the growth of the amniocentesis needle market. One of the major challenges is the invasive nature of the procedure. Amniocentesis carries a small risk of complications, including infection, bleeding, and miscarriage. This has led to concerns among pregnant women and healthcare professionals, leading to a reluctance to undergo the procedure. Additionally, the availability of non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) methods, such as cell-free DNA testing, has provided an alternative to amniocentesis, further impacting the market growth.
