I've been chewing away at the series and just finished (and am in love with) Masque-- great episode. I like that Vincent's scenes are always measured and thoughtful compared to the sometimes obvious human dynamics in Catherine's scenes. Brigit was a great character; and I loved how they worked her father and their country's issues into the plot. The ending, too... that Vincent is resigned without being resentful, and that Catherine is very "it'll all work out" fairytale optimism (naivete?)

And it's funny to me that Father continues to be the "booooooooooooooo" person, despite having met Catherine at least more than a couple times? (though only once on screen.) His reasons are perfectly understandable, of course (and considering how Vincent and Catherine's love story ended, I could see it darkly confirming those "I told you so"s to himself.)

Ooh, I love Masques! I wish they'd been able to do more Halloween episodes, so Vincent could again "Walk among them in safety." I loved Briget, too. My only gripe with this one are the really bad Irish accents. 😄

I think naïve is a fair description for Cathy. Certainly way more than Vincent could be said to be.

I adore Father so much, even if he does frustrate me sometimes. But he clearly loves Vincent and has spent over 30 years doing everything in his power to protect him, from threats both real and imagined. I think one needs to keep in mind, though, that Father knows better than anyone else just how much beast there actually is in his beloved son. Father is pragmatic when it comes to not only Vincent's safety, but of those around him. I have no doubt he honestly believed that V & C's dream of a life together was impossible and would end in tragedy. And even though he comes to love Catherine like a daughter, turns out he's right, in the end. Their relationship was always going to end badly - nothing else made sense for this dark fairytale.
