I think this scene will always hit me so hard. You have Roland who is so determined in seeing people's potential, who tried so hard to guide Astolfo away from blind hatred, and he is admitting defeat. It's the only time you see him cry. And then you have Astolfo curled up, shattered, because the person he trusted and looked up to most in the world is horrified by what he's done.
