I didn’t know what to expect from #Ecuador. Traditionally, I’m a cold weather lover and don’t fare too well in equatorial climates. But I absolutely fell in love with the country, the people, the wildlife, and the food! It is an incredibly diverse and beautiful country, and the people of Ecuador are some of the warmest and most gentle and kind I’ve ever come across. One of my favorite experiences there was hiking in the cloud forests surrounding the incredible Mashpi Lodge (one of Nat Geo’s Unique Lodges of the World). We hiked to this beautiful waterfall called Healing Waters, where one can get a behind-the-falls rush after a sweaty hike. Built on an old logging site, I’m in a lodge whose sole purpose is of conserving the land and taking care of the people & animals around her. @Regrann from @natgeotravel - Photo by @andywcoleman // You can experience the canopy of tropical forests from a variety of man made vantage points - tree houses, free standing towers, suspension bridges and zip lines - but it wasn't until visiting Mashpi Lodge in Ecuador that I discovered you can also cycle through the tree tops. Their sky bike hangs from a 656-foot cable between two points in the cloud forest. At one point, you are crossing a gorge above a river at a height of nearly 200 feet. You can pedal the bike at a leisurely pace, though, to enjoy the sights and sounds of the canopy. #NatGeoLodges #Mashpilodge #Regrann
