‘The Israeli soldiers were so happy after the sniper hit Aysenur’: An Eyewitness

September 14 2024 - Muneer Khdeer, a resident of Beita village in the occupied West Bank, witnessed the killing of activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi. He described what he saw:

“Every Friday for three years, we have been praying at a mosque in al-Masbah, opposite of Mount Sabih. After prayers, Israeli soldiers follow the young men who are heading home, which leads to scuffles. They fire tear gas and live rounds, and the young men throw stones at them,” Khdeer said.

“That day, the Israelis were firing live rounds towards the Palestinians and foreign volunteers. The two groups were about 300 metres [330 yards] apart, so the stones didn’t hit the soldiers. A sniper was among the soldiers because he placed a weapon on top of the wall. He fired two rounds, and one hit the Turkish woman, Aysenur. An ambulance took her away.

“The Israeli soldiers were so happy after the sniper hit Aysenur because they thought they had hit a Palestinian.”

The Israeli Occupation has murdered 17 Palestinians for protesting the demolition of their village Beita el-Foka since 2020.

Prior to last year’s protests, “time, space, and manner” restrictions on campus protest were considered standard practice, said Risa Lieberwitz, a Cornell University professor of labor and employment law who serves as general counsel for the American Association of University Professors.Many universities had pre-existing policies prohibiting, for example, obstructing a walkway or occupying an administrative office. Last month, Mohammed Masbah, a Gazan student he refers to as his brother and who spent several months living with his family, was killed in an Israeli airstrike. As Solomon pointed out in a column for the student newspaper, Masbah was likely killed with the help of technology developed at American universities like MIT. 

“MIT has lots of rules about ethical funding, about the duty to do no harm with one’s research,” he told Mother Jones. “And yet they refuse to apply any of those rules to their own behavior, their own research, their own institutional collaborations.” It’s hard, he said, for students to respect protest rules when their school doesn’t respect its own rules, either.

And it was just so nice and peaceful and all the Muslims inside were praying or sleeping or reading Quran and I felt so Safe? and I took a thousand photos and I went under the rock and god it was just? amazing. I felt really happy it was an unearthly experience. and like outside I didn’t know if I was supposed to take off my shoes outside or inside so I asked a girl outside and she was so kind and nice and began laughing with me and explaining it all and i felt truly blessed to be around people of my country and religion. if u ever get the chance to go do it it’s amazing!!!!!!💓
