So much (for) stardust-fall out boy

I'm not a huge fall out boy fan, but I absolutely love this album so much. Heaven, Iowa is probably my favorite song right now. This album makes me want to go back and give their other stuff another try.

Diary-sunny day real estate

Ive been on a sunny day real estate kick lately for some reason. Their music is good background music to studying, and I'm working on a patch of the art right now (just have the lines done so far). In circles is my favorite song of theirs in general, not just on the album.

Road to ruin-ramones

They're my dad's favorite band, so I find them somewhat comforting since they were on a lot when I was young. I checked this out at the library a couple weeks ago, and have been falling asleep to it most nights since. Favorite song is I wanna be sedated, mostly because of childhood memories

Sister Cities-the wonder years

Always assume I'm listening to the wonder years (I am right now actually). One of my absolute favorite bands currently, and I've found this album especially comforting due to recent family events. I listened to this album in it's entirety 3 times in a row last Friday. I don't think I have a favorite song, but raining in Kyoto specifically has been on repeat.

Currently reading: The Magic of Recluce, by L.E. Modesitt Jr. (A nice coming of age fantasy novel with some interesting ideas on magic. Although I’m not a fan of how he relies on onomatopoeia exclusively for fight scenes.)

Currently watching: Mobile Suit Gundam SEED (Melodramatic, sure, but I’d rather take passionate if somewhat illogical characters rather than nothing characters in a perfectly logical plot [00 I am Looking in Your Direction])

Currently consuming: Nothing, lol. Just got back from Breakfast about an hour ago. (Eggs and Sausage.)

Currently craving: I need some more drinks in my fridge, but as for meals, Fish and Chips sounds so good rn.

Did you know there are two different Black Eagle routes. I don't know the specifics but Gamexplain did a video on how to get it. You love Edelgard so much I just want to make sure you know about the second Eagle route ^^

Yeah, I knew of the other Eagles route, the game did give me the choice after all, but I chose to go with Edelgard’s route and not the other default Eagles route. That one...goes against Edelgard and I believe is the rumored genocide route. I plan to save it for last, since it would add that final bow of information after the main house routes.

Okay so as you all know I’m extremely cool and clever and also a published scientist, so let me tell you about my latest research.

In the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the continent of Hyrule is one of the biggest open-world maps ever created, even beating games like Skyrim and the Witcher. But, HOW BIG?

Obvs it’s very hard to get a precise size because the in-game map does not have a scale bar (terrible map skills from that cartographer). HOWEVER, if you climb the Ridgeland Tower there’s a guy up there who is a weeaboo for the Rito, who begs you to glide for him in the name of “research” (what a fucking dweeb am I right?) If you do so, he tells you how many metres you’ve flown before landing. This includes if you simply step off the tower and plummet to the ground in a straight line, and happily for my in-game ankles, the tower is surrounded by water to cushion the many landings I made to bring you this information.

Ten drops gave me a mean average height for the tower at 63.83, median 64.2, so I’m taking it as 64 for ease of Maffs.

For a flight from the tower, I picked a strip of land on the same contour line as the tower base and then flew along that. There was a slightly higher standard deviation in twelve flights because sometimes Link would step nicely over the edge and start gliding and other times he would yeet himself bodily into the sky and then start, and one time gave me an outlier because I got zapped by an electric Wizzrobe that saw me. But over all, flying the same line and hitting pretty much the same landing spot, I got an average of 250.1 metres. I took this as 250, again for ease of Maffs.

Pythagoras’ theorem hit then, so I worked out that the distance from the base of the tower to the landing spot was 242 m. Putting that into Adobe Dreamworks, I could then translate that per pixel of the map I was working with (2.42 metres per pixel.) From there, that allowed me to calculate the area of Hyrule’s land mass, roughly, in pixels and then convert it back, so having done that GUESS WHAT FOLKS

Hyrule is 25,454 km2, or 15,816 sq mi.

Wales, by contrast, is 20,735 km2, or 12,884 sq mil.

So the continent of Hyrule is, it seems, bigger than my entire country to the tune of about one and a quarter times the size.

Kingdom Hearts 2 is so wild. Like at some point the gang randomly runs into Sephiroth and talk about the darkness inside Cloud, then Sephiroth just leaves. Next they directly disobey orders from their king who is Mickey fucking Mouse and fight one of the bad guys who kinda just summons water spirits with what looks like a guitar (i know it isnt but it looks like it). At some point there is a waaay too long cutscene of Xemnas walking down a ramp to talk to a pile of broken armor which makes absolutely no sense if you dont know BBS. There is also a cutscene of Cloud Strife and Squall Leonhart standing back to back, completely surrounded trash talking eachother before they attack. Then the game makes it look like Goofy fucking dies. Mickey and Donald storm off to avenge their fallen friend. Sora follows and has some cool fights working together with a bunch of Final Fantasy characters which is awesome. After this Goofy just walks in being completely fine. What is this game and why is it awesome

Something in the back of my brain clicked when I watched the video about the fake outrage surrounding (or not surrounding) Stellar Blade and the narrator concluded that these types of folks don't want all these female characters in video games to be a very specific kind of hot because they're endlessly horny, but instead, they want every female character to be a specific type of hot because in their minds it signals to them that they are the only target audience for this product, to the exclusion of everyone else

It made so many things make sense that I actually had to pause the video and sit there for a second. It was so obvious in hindsight- for crying out loud that's exactly what they accuse other people of doing. What the hell. It even explains why they hate games that objectively have a bunch of hot women in it like Baldur's Gate 3, because it has characters that other people would find hot but they don't and that's a no-no because now you're appealing to more than just them

Judging from the ones I’ve unlocked so far (Cordelia, Robin, Lucina, Lissa) I’m guessing it has something to do with how much you’ve used the character.
