Hi Mary Kate! It’s my pleasure! 💛

I just graduated from my master’s screenwriting program (yay!) right into the strike (yay…) and with all the frustrations and little horrors that go along with trying to break into this industry, or even just preparing to try, what Shipwrecked and so many of your friends accomplish with the resources on hand is incredibly inspirational and aspirational (yeah, that’s right, I used BOTH). I know from firsthand experience that it doesn’t always feel like that way when you’re making indie projects, but still. You all have been a big part of keeping me going through all of the stress and anxiety and uncertainty leading up to and following graduation, so I’m happy to give some back as best I can right now.

Also ever since my school so rudely demanded that I graduate on time, I’ve been deprived of my read-throughs and workshops, so you guys are basically single-handedly supporting that particular habit. Hard work for you, I know, but somebody’s gotta do it. And so far the scripts you’ve read have been a blast and far better and more enjoyable than a lot of the stuff I’ve had to sort through for internships over the years.

Anyways, all of this is to say THANK YOU for doing them. Hope to make the next one, work schedule allowing!

In honor of October here’s all the lines from Headless that live rent free in my head in the specific tone the actors said them that I sometimes feel compelled to imitate in everyday life

Brom: “SCIENCE!” “That is legIT.” “Ladies! And hags.”

Matilda: “why is it that I see you every day?”

Dr. Crayon: “we are divorced! :D”

Jonathan Oldstyle, singing: “you all saw that part, so you know that he really sucks… That Guy Suuuuuucks!!”

Judy in iconic Boston accent: “Don’t forget to stretch once an hour.” “You’re a monster. You’re like Lord Farquad. But worse.”

Max: “Oh snap, I’m alive! Yo, this is tight!” Upon seeing the yearbook: “IS THIS YOU??” “Ugh, do your research, old kid! Man, I know so much STUFF!”

Davy Gravy Crowbones: “and observe! My sea log!” I want to say this whenever I point something out.

Paulie Tahoe: “as they say in Mykonos, Checkmate, motherfuckers.”

rewatching the lizzie bennet diaries with my partner and remembering how formative @marykatewiles as lydia was for me

like, as much as i wanted to be faith the vampire slayer or kreayshawn or whoever, lydia was a version of a cool girl i felt like i could actually be. she was abrasive in a lot of the same ways i was, she was lonely and performative in a lot of the same ways i was, but she was still fun and cute and outgoing and just like, a realistic person genuinely doing her best. it's a really nuanced performance and i really identified with her

"whaaaat" and the high five pose quickly got folded into my repertoire of girly things i did "for the bit" because i actually just liked that doing them made me feel like a girl

as more or less an adult woman now, i still feel a lot of tenderness for lydia as a character and for closeted me who saw her as aspirational. they were both sweet girls who deserved the whole world

I don't listen to podcasts. I use Spotify only for music. But there is a podcast in tamil called "naalanna murruku" by RJ Balaji. I like that. Its pretty good. And I listened to Wayward Guide for the untrained eye by Shipwrecked comedy (@marykatewiles I listened it even after year and it was so good and thrilling)

15. what time do you usually go to sleep & wake up?

You know about me, Aurora. My sleep is so fucked that I don't even know when I go to bed and wake up. I'll rather say bed time around 11 pm and wake up around 5 am.

August 7. Yeah I'm an August baby.

Nope. Not that I know of.

Hello Mary Kate!

Late reply, I know, I know. First it was because I was a little bit overwhelmed by your message. I had just rewatched some Lydia Bennet, since I am following the Look Back Diaries, and suddenly you're in my DMs! I even made... a meme about it.

And then I knew I wanted to watch Headless before answering and guess what I just finished. I was waiting for the right time and the full cut appeared at that right time. I definitely regret not following when it was being released, but it just flew under my radar and when I saw @musicalsandfluff post about it (hi!), I put it on my watch later.

Now is later, I suppose. The dialogue was wonderful. The plot twist was great. The music was fun. The acting was superb and I definitely shed a tear or two (or more). It is a shame that it's a struggle to find an audience, but I am definitely sharing it with others who might like it.
