Lights dim, and as the great Mary Testa takes the stage, out of the darkness, mid-song, an unknown white woman wearing all-black taps me on the wrist and asks if she can join me. That woman? Karen Ziemba. Yes, that's right, I got to witness the wonderous music of Kander and Ebb mere inches from a beaming Karen Ziemba.

This was just one marvelous moment in a Diva-filled night. Mary Testa gave the best rendition of "Colored Lights" I've ever heard live (sorry to SJB), Karen Mason's white hair continues to send me into cardiac arrest, Sara Gettelfinger is much taller up close and personal than I realized.

And of course, the stories and tributes to original cast member Chita Rivera... Not a dry eye in the house.

As for the actual show, The Rink was critically panned when it premiered, but I'd wager it would be more well-received if it had opened in this day and age (specifically if it had been part of last season's...low-bar quality...)
