REVIEW
The Dollmaker by Mary Burton
The Forgotten Files #2
Sicko psycho serial killer with a doll fetish needs to be taken down in this disturbing novel that sees Agent Dakota Sharp looking for a killer that could also possibly be the person that killed his sister. \
What I liked: * Dakota Stark: Virginia State Policeman and Agent, Ex-Marine sniper, estranged husband, bright, focused, immerses himself in cases, grieving the loss of his sister Kara over a decade later, still loves his wife
* Dr. Tessa McGowan: medical doctor, pathologist, forensic anthropologist, Dakota’s estranged wife, friend of Kara’s and other missing and deceased women, bright, caring, loves Dakota and wants to make a go of their marriage
* The look at things from the serial killer’s viewpoint – really can’t see how a person could end up thinking that way and doing what was done
* The twists and turns, secrets, cover-ups, and emotional issues there were
* The plot, setting, pacing, and writing
* The police procedural aspects of the story
* The many characters that could show up in future books in this series – especially those at the Shield Security offices
* How the clues finally led to the killer
* That the story made me care and hope for a happy outcome
What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* The killer – really wanted this person taken off the streets
* The death of Terrance and his father’s part in it
* The people complicit in keeping the serial killer in business
Did I enjoy the book? Yes
Would I read more in this series/ by this author? Yes
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington-Zebra Books for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Dr. Tessa McGowan had never seen anything quite like it. But the mutilated bodies on her exam table tell a stunningly macabre tale: someone with a twisted mind is kidnapping women and altering their faces to resemble real, life-size dolls. As a forensic pathologist, it’s her job to aid the agent leading the case—even if that agent is her estranged husband. Twelve years ago an unspeakable tragedy destroyed Dakota Sharp’s world. Haunted by the ghosts of his past, he’s devoted himself to capturing killers. His only regret is that it cost him Tessa. Now, as the Dollmaker case brings them together—and raises his suspicions that he’s crossed paths with this deranged psychopath before—they may just have their second chance. But it seems Dakota’s not the only one who wants to make Tessa his own… She may be the Dollmaker’s next target, but Tessa has no intention of winding up as another toy on his shelf. Can she and Dakota stop this ghastly killer before his next deadly playdate?

Books read in the month of November 2022!
Books read in the month of November 2022!
Here it is already the end of another month. Where does the time go? We now have only two months left of this year! I have been busy as usual reading some wonderful books for the month of November of 2022. Here are the 8 books I read and reviewed for November. I might have read even more if I didn’t have a few WIP. But I always seemed to have a WIP! That fact never stops me! I hope you enjoy…

Lydia: Are you sure this is a good idea? Dating someone who used to be dead?
Astrid: Don't worry, they're nothing like Beet- , I mean, him. But they are having a difficult time adjusting, which makes them a little-
A faint screaming is heard in the distance, followed by a loud thud.
Astrid (sighs): Clumsy.
They follow the sound to find Y/n at the bottom of the stairs.
Y/n: I forgot how much pain hurts.
Astrid hands them the Handbook For The Recently Resurrected
Astrid (chuckles): You might want to read more of this, babe.

REVIEW
The House Beyond the Dunes by Mary Burton
Riveting read from first page to last ~ Couldn’t put it down and read till 2am to find out how it all would end!
I liked: * The twists, turns, and surprises
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing
* That it drew me in, made me care, had me wondering and caring about what would happen next
* Not knowing what was really happening and who to trust even when I had inklings about some of the characters
* The solving of mysteries that cropped up – and there was more than one dark mystery in this story
* That the baddies were dealt with and justice – of sorts – was delivered
* The dark backstories of some characters and how they played into the plot
* That no character was perfect but the understanding of what made most of them tick was provided
* Thinking about how difficult it would have been to survive and thrive for some of the characters
* Thinking about and hoping for a positive future for Lane and the man who helped her find answers that she needed
What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about how evil and cruel some people can be along with their disregard for others
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Definitely!
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for the ARC – This is my honest review.

A tragic accident or something more sinister? A woman’s buried memories put her life at risk in a novel of shattering psychological suspense by New York Times bestselling author Mary Burton. Lane McCord wakes up in a hospital having survived a near-fatal fall at a North Carolina beach cottage. Her boyfriend, Kyle, wasn’t so lucky. A senseless tragedy on their first romantic getaway. All Lane remembers is lying at the bottom of the stairs in Kyle’s pooling blood. Confused and grieving, Lane plans to return to the cottage, collect her personal belongings, and get out. Until a winter rainstorm leaves her stranded and vulnerable, but not alone. A concerned neighbor, who claims he heard a violent argument before the accident, has come out of the storm. So has a suspicious detective on the trail of a missing woman, whose diary deepens the mystery—and raises more questions that fill Lane with dread. How well did she know Kyle? How well does she know herself? What really happened at the cottage on the beach? And when the answers come, who can Lane trust to get out of this waking nightmare alive?

The cover for Sally's Lament has been revealed!
"Disney’s New York Times best-selling A Twisted Tale series meets perennial fan-favorite The Nightmare Before Christmas, asking
“What if Sally discovered Christmas Town instead of Jack?”
Sally has mostly loved her creepy hometown of Halloween Town. But lately, she can't help but want something more. In a place full of the frightening, you'd think living in the shadows wouldn't feel so . . . isolating. She knows she could do so much more if she wasn't always stuck in the lab of her creator, Dr. Finkelstein. Soon Sally is surprised to learn that the Pumpkin King, Jack, is longing for a change of his own. Determined to find a solution for them both, Sally follows a vision that could be the key to changing their fates.
But the more time Sally spends in the strange, jolly land of Christmas Town, the more suspicious she grows of the seemingly idyllic winter wonderland. What is lurking behind those dancing sugar plums? And what exactly does it mean to be put on the Naughty List? Will Sally be able to save the best of both towns—before it's too late?"
Releases October 8th! Preorders available now on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other sites!
