Death Mark AU: Role Reversal with Demonic Possession

Based on the fanfic Windows of the Soul by KittenAnarchy, where Mary possesses Masamune instead of just giving him amnesia and Saya Kujou is our amnesiac heroine.

Thank you to NicoB for giving me something new to fixate over during the month of Hallows. Yes, I came across Spirit Hunter: Death Mark and now Kazuo Yashiki is my favorite wet cat man. Though with that love, I must now torture the middle-aged man. Oh jeez, I’m sounding like Mary now… 😬

Speaking of Mary, I think now is a perfect time to mention the fun AU idea I had based on a fanfic I found! For context in that fic, Saya had hidden away Mary’s legs so in retaliation she ripped Yashiki/Masamune’s eyes from his head and placed hers in, possessing him while Saya is the one who ends up with amnesia. There’s not much in that fic other than Saya meeting her possessed brother but I love the idea and wanted to give my own spin.

AU: I am planning on keeping Saya heavily damaging Mary in attempt to stop her. I felt it would add to the angst when Saya regains her memories and knows she accidentally caused her brother to become possessed and understands he was alone with that monster in his head for days. Cause, ya know, the Kujou siblings need regrets for their past actions.

The one thing I would changed is how Mary possesses Yashiki/Masamune. I’m someone who enjoys reading someone being trapped in their own body as someone else puppets them so I thought Mary would just pour all her essence into Yashiki/Masamune, The Conjuring style. That way, we can still have her fully in control with hints of big-brother Kujou trying to break though to warn his sister.

Also, I decided to do designing of my own Mary!Masamune outfit, since I feel like Mary would be like: “Oh? Of course you wear something like this for formalities!” And then the clothes would just be an alternative version of Mary’s. Well, an attempt at it. I really tried 🤣

Onto the events of Death Mark, Mary!Masamune would still take on the role as Mary did in the original canon as acting like an informant about the spirits but this time, he can walk so he acts like a servant to the Kujou household, saying only his first name and never giving Saya his family name.

But while Saya and her selected partners are out dealing with the spirits, I imagine the ones left behind would interact with Mary!Masamune — noting how he sometimes acts a little odd and not as cold and calculating when Saya is around (most of that is Yashiki fighting the possession or Mary giving him reigns but making sure he can’t call for help — typical Mary love). They would bring this up to Saya, who is starting to notice some strange things about the Kujou butler.

I should also mention that the memories Saya Kujou lost were of her brother, Mary, and her role as a spirit hunter. She knows she lives at the mansion, she has vague recollections about her father but any memory of Masamune, Mary, or the Mark are gone.

Anyway, that’s all I have for this AU at the moment. I just love me some possession and some angsty siblings so I wanted to contribute to the fandom. Also, enjoy a Mary!Masamiune without his hat and glasses!

- Saya and Mashita work together in that 5 year gap since Mashita’s senior died, idk they should be friends

-Masamune STILL uses the lameass methods Yashiki has but with more spiritual sense or something. He’s just more eloquent with it

This beautiful piece of fan art by @/stickymaelk on Twitter made my brain start whirling around an Arcane x Soul Eater AU that I'm sure I won't be able to get out of my head for a little while, so here are my fledgling headcanons:

Jayce & Viktor are obviously partners, with Jayce being the meister & Viktor the weapon. Viktor has a very closed-off soul & finds it near impossible to partner with anyone other than Jayce (ala Soul). Jayce has a very large, kinetic soul-wavelength that he can use to attack sans his weapon ala Black☆Star, though he wouldn't necessarily want to. He has an easier time pairing up with other people compared to Viktor, but most other weapons would find his wavelength overwhelming. Jayce grew up in Death City with his mother. They're probably the first of their class to make a Death Scythe. I absolutely see the two of them getting into a Maka-&-Soul-esque dilemma where Jayce develops a complex around needing to protect Viktor at all costs, despite it being the weapon's job to protect their meister. The handle of Viktor's hammer-form takes on the aesthetic qualities of whatever cane he's using at the time.

Caitlyn is the first meister in Kiramman family history (maybe she gets it from Tobias's side?) & her deciding to pursue this path has created a rift between she & Cassandra. Caitlyn & Jayce hit it off during their first week at the DWMA & she was extremely disappointed to find out he wasn't a weapon. Caitlyn goes through her entire first semester without having chosen a weapon before Death Scythe Grayson reccomends she pair up with Vi; the two of them never would have seriously considered the other before, but they work like a charm. Maybe they eventually have a little breakup arc where their partnership dissolves & Caitlyn picks up Maddie as her new weapon, but they can't resonate the same way she & Vi could.

Vi & Powder are kind of a combination of the Thompson sisters & the Nakatsukasa siblings. Like Liz & Patty, they're both modern firearms. But whereas Vi only has one form (a rifle) like Masamune, Powder is a multi-form weapon like Tsubaki; she can turn into a handgun, a canon, a grenade, a time-bomb, etc. Vi lowkey wishes she were a meister so that she & Powder could've been partners, & has a bit of an inferiority complex about not being a good enough weapon. The two of them were taken in & raised by the DWMA along with Ekko. Maybe their parents were all meisters and/or weapons who were killed by witches or something. Powder absolutely gets injected with Black Blood at some point. At some point before either of them had official partners, Jayce & Vi tried to pair up & it was an absolute disaster (their souls are like the immovable object vs the unstoppable force, lol).

Ekko is a meister & Powder's partner. The two of them decided to be a pair before they were even officially enrolled at the DWMA. Ekko has a grigori soul (ala Maka), which helps to counteract Powder's madness post-Black Blood infusion. If they ever formed a team of weapon-meister pairs like Spartoi, then Ekko would definitely be the leader. Powder worries that she's dragging Ekko's as a meister potential down with her.

Mel has a Stein-esque soul, in that she can meister any weapon with ease &, like Jayce, can fight without a weapon (she's more adept & eager to do so than Jayce is). Her most common weapon partner is Elora, & sometimes Sky (I definitely see Sky having Marie's healing wavelength). Maybe Elora is killed in battle (sorry girl) or decommissioned some other way, & Sky becomes Mel's primary weapon after that? The Medarda's are a long, unbroken line of prodigious meisters & weapons, & Mel definitely feels the weight of that legacy. Mel is revealed to be part witch ala Kim.

The Potential of a Soulmate Mark Au in Death Mark

Why did it take me until now to think of the Death Mark surrounding a soulmate mark? It has so much potential:

- the mark of death having the soulmate mark in its maw symbolizing the threat of the severing of souls (through death)

- the death mark a show of new ownership of their soul overpowering the connection of soulmates

- the effects of amnesia making the person unable to recognize their partner

- in some aus showing your mark is taboo making it more difficult for people to admit or show that their is now a strange mark over their own

- this can work with different types of soul marks (first words/unique shapes/handprints/color of the other’s soul/etc.)

Now in terms of Yashiki/Mashita:

- the Kujou family clan does not have soulmates as their souls are tethered to Mary’s

- some family member tells the others this is a blessing-in-disguise because they won’t be dragging another into their cursed short fate

- By erasing Masamune’s existence in Yashiki’s mind she unintentionally unknotted his lifeline from her thus allowing a soulmark appear

- while she may be a threat to Yashiki’s life having given him the mark she has untethered that connection she has with the Kujou clan in his soul

- Mashita who also never had a soulmark looks down at his wrist with the death mark and sees a new soul mark

Yuki leading a research to create a simulation world (2nd world) as a way to find a cure for HER. Using the simulation like a guinea pig, he puts in HER poisoning data in the simulation. That's why HER appears in the simulation.

Skip forward, legendary bladers are dead, including Yuki, the world can't be saved.

Ryuto was the last person alive from the 1st world.

Hi!! The Mashita story for the WIP game? :D

Since I gave the summary last time, here's an actual rundown of what it is about:

I wanted to create an AU about if someone besides Masamune was being tormented by Mary. Thus, Mashita's Very Bad Time at Kujou Manor came to be! It follows Satoru Mashita without his memories as he attempts to save himself and the other Mark Bearers from their demises, following the basic story of the main game with some major changes, like Saya being the mysterious person found down in the underground room of H Elementary.

Legitimately, the amount of Blue Demise vibes that were blaring in the DLC makes me side eye. The white dress, Yashiki talking about potentially "saving" Mary as well as destroying her, Mashita warning Yashiki at the end to not get too wrapped up in her as he senses she'll reach out to him somehow, and how everything that occured in the AU happened because Masamune was too empathetic of Mary's situation and tried to save her. Don't you dare, Yashiki.

Also an Akira and Yashiki team up would still be amazing to see. They'd work well, I think.

Aoki Shuen (Blue Demise) route is stated as an alternate universe to Death Mark's true canon route, although I think there are several elements in it that could still be relevant in later installments of the franchise. Namely: - The Golden Gun: This is a gun crafted by Rose, as stated by herself in Aoki Shuen, given to Mashita, which can kill both humans and spirits. There isn't any mention of this weapon in canon route yet, but we know Rose does exist, so high chance is, the golden gun does exist too. - White Mary: As of fundraiser's exclusive DLC of Death Mark 2, we know the white dress has made its existence in canon route. Whether this will lead to Master of the Mark's appearance or not is undecided. - Hyakki Yakyo (Night of Hundred Demons' Parade) phenomenon: Mentioned in Red Riding Hood DLC and explained a bit in Aoki Shuen as a record of supernatural phenomenon involving grotesque dolls, now explained in Mary's New Color DLC further, concluding that all the events in the three games (Death Mark 1, NG and Death Mark 2) are all Hyakki Yakyo. This would eventually bring up the question as to where or whom the dolls originated from. - The ability to create doll with soul: Practically, this would be a combination of Yashiki's and Akira's abilities. Maybe they will work together soon.

Happy almost holidays! I’m Meg, Maggy, or Mew! A 20 year old college student who rps for fun! With classes nearly over I’m going to have a lot more time for roleplays, so I figured I’d post an add! J’ai enfin regarde le film live Ghost In The Shell

Je ne suis pas critique de cinema (je n’ai aucun interet et aucune culture du cinema, et je ne suis pas ecrivain non plus). Mais j’ai vu Ghost In The Shell et j’ai besoin d’en parler, d’inscrire mon propre avis a moi rien qu’a moi quelque part, pendant qu’il est frais et avant que mon opinion soit influencee par des elements exterieurs. N’ayant pas d’interet pour le cinema, les films que je finis par regarder sont principalement des adaptations de livres ou manga que j’ai aimes. Comme les adaptations cine sont generalement foireuses, ca n’aide pas mon desinteret voire mon mepris pour le cinema... Je n’ai pas trouve Ghost In The Shell aussi grotesque que le film US Death Note, et je suis pas aussi fachee qu’apres le film MW, mais c’est bien parce que j’en attendais pas trop au depart. J’ai regarde film sans a priori, en le prenant comme une oeuvre a part entiere, en essayant de ne pas faire de comparaisons vignette par vignette (de toute facon j’ai pas lu le manga d’origine) ou scene par scene (j’ai eviter de regarder Ghost In The Shell et Innocence recemment pour ecarter tout risque de persistence retinienne). C’est toujours plus joli et moins ridicule que si c’etait les japonais qui avaient reaise une adaptation live de Ghost In The Shell (parce qu’au moins les Americains ont du fric pour se payer des images de synthese qui tiennent la route et ils se sentent pas obliges de rendre hommage a la cheapitude du 1er Godzilla dans tous leurs effets speciaux). Mais voila, ce que je retiens, c’est un film facile et superficiel, avec moments vraiment stupides.

Trop facile

Deja, decalquer les 3 scenes les plus memorables du film de 1995 (la naissance de Makoto, le combat en opto-camouflage les pieds dans l’eau, et Motoko qui saute d’un immeuble et se rend invisible), c’etait facile. Ils se sont pas trop creuses la tete. Tu fous ca, t’es sur d’avoir tous les fans qui vont aller voir le film, et tous les badauds qui ne l’ont jamais vu vont s’exasier devant la beaute des scenes (ou pas). Balancer la musique theme du film de 1995 en generique de fin aussi c’etait facile, cheap. Par contre ils n’ont pas daigne doter le film lui-meme d’une bange originale marquante. Je suis incapable de dire quoi que ce soit de bien a propos de la musique, alors que je suis tres sensible a la bande son (musique et voix compris) de tout ce que je regarde, alors que je peux . C’etait contemporain, convenu et sans caractere.

Trop “try hard”

Ensuite, c’est un film qui fait des choix esthetiques douteux. GITS US se veut a la fois futuriste et crade, comme le film d’animation de 1995. Les objets et elements du futur de 1995 etant d’une part plus sobre et plus dates, le melange de la technologie et du fatras crade de la basse ville ne clashe pas trop, pas au point d’entacher la credibilite du monde que depeint le film, il y a une certaine harmonie et suscite au plus l’habituel “ah la technologie du futur du passe ca a vieilli hahaha”). Mais le film de 2017 marie lui des decors neon ultrabright facon Black Eyed Peas in Blade Runner, des publicites holographiques geantes qui tournent autour des buildings, des voitures qui volent... avec des voitures et motos au design anguleux qui feraient passer K2000 ou la Delorean de Retour Vers Le Futur pour des voitures du vrai futur, des routes mal eclairee alors qu’elles sont parsemees de panneaux lumineux mais sombres et durs a lire (ca defeat the purpose). J’essaye de me dire que c’est un choix artistique, que c’esst pas credible parce que ca ne cherche pas a etre credible, que c’est un hommage aux vieux films d’anticipations, a l’esthetique de Blade Runner... mais voila, la sauce n’adhere pas, le tout semble decousu, tout ce que je vois c’est un univers dans lequel je n’arrive pas a plonger (alors que le Ghost In The Shell de 1995 relevait brillamment ce defi et que je dans la vraie vie, j’adore les lumieres de la ville et les enchevetrements de batiments anguleux). Mais c’est une fois qu’on enleve tous ces neons et ces choix esthetiques douteux que tout se gate vraiment. C’est la que tu te rends compte que ce film est vraiment vide et con. J’ai pas releves tous les moments cons du film (j’irai voir Cinema Sins apres pour ca), mais il y en a quelques uns qui m’ont fait grincer des dents. ATTENTION SPOILERS.

Trop con

Les 2 eboueurs brain hackes qui se mettent a la poursuite du Dr Ouelet ont laaaaargement le temps de la tuer mais en le font pas. Genre elle est devant le mechant petrifiee et le mechant ne tire pas, ce qui laisse le temps aux autres gentils de rappliquer et de mettre Dr Ouelet a l’abri. C’est tellement force, les mecs ils sont plus nuls que les Storm Stroopers de Star Wars ou les mechas lambdas dans Gundam. Les Storm Troopers tu peux te dire avec leur costume a la con ils y voient rien, ou ils ont recrute des mecs pas doues. Les mechas lambda dans Gundam idem, ils ont des pilotes trop nuls et des machines pas tres user-friendly, vas-y j’aimerais bien t’y voir toi a essayer de piloter un robot geant de 10 metres! Mais la, les mecs en chair et en os qui restent plantes devant leur cible sans tirer sans raison, ca me troue le cul. En plus rien dans le film n’indique que c’est un souci technique, ou Kuze qui a du mal a les commander, ou que les mecs ont des scrupules. Nope, c’est juste de la mauvaise mise en scene de film d’action americain.

Le mec qui se suicide dans sa cellule de verre, je l’ai vu venir a 8km. Sa laisse n’a aucune utilite, a part de permettre au mec de se pendre pour les besoins de l’histoire. Et encore, c’etait pas un besoin, le mec se serait pas pendu ca revenait au meme, c’est vraiment un truc gratuit pour la shock value. Vous noterez que le mec est accroche par le coup a une laisse qui vient du plafond et qui est trop courte pour qu’il puisse s’assoir, alors qu’il a l’air d’etre la depuis/pour un moment, c’est pas tres sympa. Si c’etait pour mieux le torturer, ils auraient pu trouver un truc plus douloureux et rapide. Si c’etait meme pas cense etre de la torture, c’est vraiment debile comme setting.

L’histoire tres ouverte et (pour ma part) originale de Ghost In The Shell 1995 (au sens ou elle donne a reflechir a l’infini sur plein de choses) laisse place dans Ghost In The Shell 2017 a une histoire banale, previsible et refermee sur elle-meme. Tout tourne autour du passe perdu de Major, mais j’ai trouve la quete presentee d’une maniere telle que je n’arrive ni a y croire ni a compatir. Tout est survole comme dans un manga d’Osamu Tezuka, mais sans la puissance suggestive et l’habilete de Tezuka (traduction: les mangas de Tezuka peuvent sembler prendre des raccourcis ou raconter les choses de maniere superficielle, mais je trouve qu’en fait ils touchent avec justesse des sujets interessant, juste assez pour faire reflechir et pour preserver le dynamisme de la narration -le contraire du shonen manga contemporain typique ; Ghost In The Shell balaye, balance des peripeties et quelques tirades pseudo metaphysiques mais sans vraiment susciter l’emotion ou la reflexion derriere).

Trop superficiel

On apprend que Mira etaient en fait Motoko, une jeune rebelle qui vivait avec son copain Hideo et leur potes punks a chiens (ok c’est pas vrai c’etait pas des punks a chiens, l’histoire suggere justeque c’etaient des marginaux) dansl les bas-fonds de la ville, jusqu’au jour ou ils sont captures et executes par la police. On ne sait meme pas pourquoi! La mere de Motoko evoque que sa fille ecrivant des articles comme quoi la technologie allait mener l’humanite a sa perte. C’est litterallement le niveau de detail qu’on nous donne dans le film. C’est la mise en situation la plus superficielle et pourrie que je me souvienne avoir vu dans un film. Je suppose qu’on est censes deduire que c’est un monde post-apocalyptique injuste, ou le petit peuple est persecute? C’est la backstory la plus superficielle, debile et ridicule qu’il m’ait ete donne de voir dans un film depuis longtemps. Meme l’univers de Togainu No Chi etait mieux construit, mieux explique et plus credible! (vous vous rendez compte que je parle d’un vieux jeu video boys love completement tordu, pervers, qui use de tous les poncifs possibles pour le fan service?) Meme Tekken (le film americain base sur le jeu video de combat) faisait mieux.

Ah et puis le boss de Hanka Robotics, ses motivations, son jeu de mechant me faisait grincer des dents comme si je regardais un mauvais drama japonais. Oulalala il est trop mechant il pense qu’a son business au detriment des pauvres petits innocents qu’il a fait trucider pour ses experimentations. Desolee mais la (re)presentation du personnage fait passer Casshern pour un film serieux et critique, je pourrais en oublier ses defauts. Au moins Casshern avait l’excuse d’etre un film fantaisie et claimait haut et fort sa nature de delire onirique steam punk, la ou Ghost In The Shell se prend trop au serieux et finit par avoir l’air ridicule.

Ghost In The Shell 2017 est base principalement (mais pas que) sur le film d’animation de 1995. Moi-meme je ne connais vraiment que ce film et la suite Innonce, je n’ai jamais lu le manga de Masamune Shirow, je n’ai jamais regarde Stand Alone Complex et Arise, (j’ai juste lu un bout de la version manga du dernier) donc il y a forcement plein de choses qui m’echappent. Mais je ne peux pas m’empecher de faire la comparaison et de trouver que les Americains (parce que j’ai decide de foutre tout Hollywood dans le meme sac) ont pris une histoire riche, intelligente, qui ouvre la voie a de nombreuses interrogations metaphysiques (vraiment) pour en faire une histoire banale et fermee qui ne vole pas plus haut que Tekken (le film americain adapte du jeu video de combat japonais). Car tout le long du film, ce n’est pas au manga ou au film de 1995 que je n’ai pas pu m’empecher de comparer Ghost In The Shell 2017, c’est a Tekken. TEKKEN, PUTAIN!

Death Mark AU: Protagonist!Swap Saya Kujou

I managed to get it done on her birthday! Everyone, say hello to the hero of our Protag!Swap AU: Saya Kujou!

Why yes, that is her brother’s coat she’s wearing. But she doesn’t know that by the time the amnesia takes hold of her. All she knows that she woke up with this coat wrapped around her and for some reason, she refuses to be separated from it.

And yes, Masamune did give her that coat during his last moments of being fully in-control.

Saya Kujou is a character I feel like a lot of fans could interpret in their own way since she was, ya know, dead when we first meet her and all we got for her characterization was from her being a voice in her brother’s head in the main game. So, she was dead and loves her brother; time for the Dark One to get her hands dirty.

In my previous post I had mentioned a little bit of Saya, how she was initially the one who was accidentally the one responsible for her brother’s possession since she was the one who damaged Mary’s doll body. It was here that things changed; Saya was originally Marked by Hanahiko, like in canon, but she found out just how fast the amnesia was affecting Masamune. So, with her own death close, Saya attacked Mary.

“If I go down, I’ll take you with me!”

Cue Butterfly Effect; Mary get’s so pissed off that not only does she possess Masamune when he manages to make it to the Kujou Manor, but she takes over the Mark on Saya so she essentially becomes HER victim.

Well, now the backstory is out of the way, time to get into a bit of Saya’s character within the story; she’s been portrayed as the more outgoing of the two siblings in canon, being the face for the Kujou family despite her brother being the Head at the time. With that in mind, I like to think she’s very motherly while also having the ability to kick your butt. Like I picture all the younger Mark Bearers just flocking after her like ducklings — yes, even Shou and Tsukasa even if they don’t want to admit. She’s like that fun teacher you have that tries to make lessons interesting while also being brutally honest about things.

Due to her more blunt nature and her not having memories of being a Spirit Healer, I imagine Saya to be viewed as reckless and too outgoing amongst the adults. She’s a woman who marches to the beat of her own drum, especially when she’s not putting on a polite facade at conferences. This particular character trait came about when I remember that, as the black rabbit, she literally took the FLIPPING NENJINBUTSU out of the shrine before it was fully cleansed and kept it with her when she went to fight Mary!

…Suffice to say, Saya would definitely be the person to do something random or possibly life threatening just to see if it works. She often gives her adult companions heart attacks.

For some reason, I actually view Saya and Mashita as not getting along with the other. But not like hate each other, just two people who don’t get along but are forced to work together and are slowly coming to respecting each other. Don’t ask me how I came to that conclusion cause I don’t know how I got to that point either. I think I just found it hilarious that Saya would think Mashita is a degenerate only to realize that her brother like-likes him! 🤣

Speaking of her brother, let’s talk about Saya and the possessed Masamune! During the beginning, Saya was told that Masamune was her family butler and she believed. While her memories of her brother may be gone, her heart still knows him so while it does lead to her getting manipulated by Mary, Saya easily trusts Masamune and has come to rely on him for information on spirits.

But as the Chapters go on and each of the Mark Bearers tell her their tale of Masamune’s strange behavior, Saya starts to get suspicious. She still wants to trust him but even she realizes that something is wrong with him; how he appears to be light-headed, seems to be nauseated all the time, not to mention that one time he grabbed her arm and how his eyes seemed to flash with… Something.

With that, I think I’ll leave things here for now. I’ll probably do more doodles on a future date. Until then, enjoy this picture of Saya and Masamune.

(Office AU) A nice little lab in the middle of nowhere was all she wanted, free to experiment to her heart's content. Medusa Gorgon quickly finds that life doesn't always go her way; recent troubles have left her jobless and stuck in a city she absolutely can't stand, with people she despises. A strange job offering from her estranged younger sibling Shaula leads her into the dull, mostly uneventful, life of an office worker, destined to become absolutely nothing important in the grander scheme of their corporate infighting, not to mention the overly attached secretary she's supposed to babysit. Despite this, she quickly learns that maybe she can accomplish more in this position than she ever had before, and begins her journey to bring her sisters back together again in an experiment to see if the silly saccharine concept of "familial bonds" are worth anything.

Dec 18 And They Were Roommates (Oh My God)
