Berlin One (2015)
My rating: 6/10
Not great, but the whole thing makes a lot more sense once you realize that the script is a classic 80s style cheesy action flick - dressed up as a historical drama, for whatever reason.

Freud

🧡 https://www.instagram.com/p/B8wtVfZF7mU/?igshid=xprmihxnqv4p

Blood Glacier (2013)
My rating: 6/10
Pretty good Austrian variation on The Thing (Des Ding, if you will), and the chimeric (mostly practical) monsters are pretty fun, but in the end the characters are a bit too dull for the whole thing to be really good.

Blood Glacier
Marvin Kren’s BLOOD GLACIER (2013) is a pleasant surprise. From the title you’d expect a tacky Syfy Network thriller about stupid but hot college kids skiing their way into an oblivion. Instead, the film is a chilling ecological disaster with flashes of deadpan wit. After a slow start, it focuses on a strange virus unleashed by the melting of glaciers in the Tyrol. The virus turns the ice red and creates strange mutants out of anything it infects, leading to an invasion of killer flies, falcons, foxes and even a mountain goat. Because of the film’s low budget, the most effective creatures are those barely seen. The plot obviously owes a great deal to John Carpenter’s THE THING (1982), but there’s also a link to the earlier Christian Nyby (Howard Hawks) THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD (1951) in the dichotomy between principled people of action (the hero is the handyman at a mountain scientific station studying climate change) and scientists, who want to keep the virus and mutations a secret so nobody else can steal their thunder, even if it means risking the life of the science minister coming to evaluate their work. One big plus is the director’s mother, Brigitte Kren, as the minister, a feisty old lady who takes matters into her own hands and knows how to wield a power drill in self-defense. She also gets to deliver the film’s best, most insane line, when she goes after an hysterical aide: “Stop eating that banana while you’re crying!” Now, those are words of wisdom we should all keep in mind.
