Ninjago Character Headcanons
Cole Brookstone
Age: 18
Height: 5’11
Where are they from: A small town full of performance artists.
Fun facts:
Since he grew up in a town full of performers, he is very critical of others' fashion, unconsciously judging everyone's hair and clothing choices.
He mentally categorizes fighting moves with dance moves, and when doing the obstacle course in the monastery, he realized there was a rhythm to the obstacles movements and used this to finish the obstacle course before Sensei Wu finished his tea.
He also uses this rhythm technique in battle, and his attacks are very reminiscent of dance moves.
He has eaten dirt and will do it again.
As many issues as Cole has with his dad, he still is the reason that Cole loves music, especially quartets.
He is a mama's boy.
He was Sensei Wu’s first student.
Hobbies: rock climbing, playing video games, cooking, fashion, and sometimes dancing.
Backstory: Mostly the same as in the show, his dad is a dancer, and his mother died of illness when he was younger. After her death, his relationship with his father worsened as his coping mechanism was to hide away in his work, dancing, which he also dragged Cole into. Cole met Sensei Wu while rock climbing to get away from his father after another fight. After talking for a bit, he decided to lie to his father that he was going to Marty Oppenheimer School of Performing Arts and then became Sensei Wu’s student.
Jay Walker
Age: 17
Height: 5’7
Where are they from: A junkyard
Fun Facts:
He has put a fork in a socket, just to see what would happen.
He is dyslexic and has ADHD.
He has Naruto run around the junkyard.
Has broken all of his bones more than once.
Hobbies: Inventing/mechanics, coding/programming, engineering, playing video games, simping, and watching anime.
Backstory: Even though Jay grew up in a junkyard and was homeschooled there, his parents often made multiple trips to Ninjago City to either pick up stuff for the junkyard or show off their invention. But whenever they went there, Jay never could play with the kids from Ninjago City because they all thought that he and his parents were weird. This caused Jay to lie about who his parents were and where he lived. However, he has a good relationship with his parents, and they love him dearly. He met Sensei Wu after crashing into a billboard.
Kai Smith
Age: 18
Height: 5’10
Where are they from: Ignacia, a small village in the countryside of Ninjago.
Fun Facts:
Too spicy is not a phrase that Kai knows.
Kai is ambidextrous (originally left-handed but learned to use his right).
He is hydrophobic and cannot swim.
Ever since his parents disappeared, he was in charge of cooking, and he is decent at it but puts in way too many spices, so only his sister is able to stomach it.
He styled and cut Nya’s hair until she was old enough to do it herself, and he was pretty good at it.
He cannot haggle for the life of him; this is why he isn’t allowed shopping on his own.
Hobbies: metalworking, woodworking, glassblowing, sword fighting, singing, hairstyling, practicing one-liners in the mirror, and playing soccer.
Backstory: Ever since his parents went missing when he was 7, Kai had to take care of Nya and himself. His neighbors chipped in now and then to help them out, but it was he who had to work the smithy and sell armor and weapons to make sure Nya and he had food on the table. After a few years of doing it, Kai managed to teach himself how to make good-quality armor and weapons—never as good as his parents, but better than most. This and Nya's own accomplishments made the Smiths considered the most gifted kids in the village. Thanks to this, Kai and Nya have a big ego, and they both are pretty independent.
Nya Smith
Age: 16
Height: 5’8
Where are they from: Ignacia, a small village in the countryside of Ninjago.
Fun facts:
Nya is typically naturally good at everything, but when she does struggle getting something, she drops it and moves on to something else. That's why she doesn’t do metalworking, woodworking, or glass blowing because those crafts require a lot of trial and error, and why focus on something she isn’t good at immediately when she can do something she is good at?
She is really good at negotiations because she is in charge of both buying and selling, and she will not pay more than she has to nor will she sell for less than she deserves.
The only one of three people who know that about Zane’s secret garden.
Hobbies: gardening, sewing/knitting/crocheting, reading, mechanics, coding/programming, Taekwondo, swimming, cooking, playing instruments (guitar, violin, flute, bass, piano, and drums), sword fighting, and archery.
Backstory: When Nya’s parents went missing when she was 5, Kai did his best to take care of her. At first, she was terrified to be without them. Nya thought Kai wasn’t scared, but soon she realized he was; he just didn’t want to show her so she wouldn't be as scared. Nya decided that since Kai was putting all this effort into being there for her, she would return the favor, and she began to be more independent and try to make him proud. This is what encouraged her to pick up so many hobbies, and since she had a natural talent for so many of them, she quickly became considered the most talented person in the village.
Lloyd Garmadon
Age: 10 (apparently his voice actor said this, I can't find it but if someone else can either conform or deny that would be great)
Height: 4’7
Where are they from: Darkley's Boarding School for Bad Boys
Fun fact:
Lloyd can quickly learn to drive or pilot any vehicle after only being in it for a bit. He uses this to get getaway vehicles for when he needs it.
He has a reverse green thumb; he kills every plant he tries to take care of.
This caused him to be banned from Zane’s secret garden.
Get overstimulated easily.
Hobbies: playing video games, prank calling, and driving/piloting vehicles.
Backstory: Lloyd doesn’t remember either of his parents before arriving at Darkley's Boarding School for Bad Boys. The only reason he knows his name is because of the letter that was left with him when he arrived, reading Lloyd Montgumary Garmadon, which is a bit more than some other kids at Darkley’s got. In Darkley’s, Lloyd had 2 friends, Brad and Gene, and to them, everyone else were their enemies. Darkley kids often would leave the school to mess with nearby villages, and Lloyd would typically be the getaway driver. During one of these escapades, Lloyd tries to trick an old man, but the man outsmarts him, and Lloyd himself gets tricked. This old man is Sensei Wu, and after learning Lloyd's full name, he finds out the boy is his nephew. After Wu tells Lloyd a few life lessons and tells him who his father is, he tells Lloyd that he is his uncle, and if he wants, instead of living at Darkley's, he can live with him. Lloyd says he wants to stay at Darkley’s (partially because he likes hanging out with Brad and Gene and partially because he thinks everyone will think he is a traitor and weak if he leaves), and Senesi Wu leaves him be. He researches who his dad is, Lord Garmadon, and since he is the evilest guy Lloyd has ever heard of, he won’t stop telling everyone about it. Eventually he gets kicked out of Darkley's, so he is homeless and wandering the streets for about a month before the first episode of season 1.
Zane Juilien
Age: 19
Height: 6’2
Where are they from: A forest (not the Birchwood Forest since he doesn’t recognize the place)
Fun Fact:
Zane moved around from town to town for money but also just in case someone would recognize him.
Zane loves nature a lot.
He has the biggest green thumb, so much so that he is even able to bring back plants on their dying breaths.
He made a garden around the back of the monastery that only Nya, Lloyd, and Sensei Wu know about, but Lloyd almost killed all the plants the first time he was there, so he’s banned.
The reason he is so autistic-coded is because Dr. Julien gave him some of his own habits and traits while building him.
Zane can’t use technology; he is like an old person with it.
Hobbies: Cleaning, growing bonsai trees, cooking and baking, swimming, and gardening
Backstory: Zane’s life before the memory wipe is the exact same. After waking up in the forest with little to no memory, he traveled from town to town, doing tricks for money. During one of his tricks, where he stayed underwater for 5 minutes, he met Sensei Wu underwater with him and freaked out, causing him to surface before the 5 minutes were up. Afterwards, they talked for a bit, and Zane decided to become Sensei Wu’s student.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
I promised myself I would try posting my edits on Tumblr, especially those I'm most proud of. So here's Cole and some headcanons I have for him!
Cole is Afro-Colombian-Chinese due to Lou being a Chinese surname and Lilly coming from Latin America. Colombia has the biggest African population in all of Latin America. (Also, I've lived here for 10+ years, so I'm hella biased.)
Smells like a mix of sage and pine
Cole is like Disney's Hercules. You get Cole not knowing why he’s been weirdly stronger than the other kids, and he’s been called a freak because of it. With his dad wanting him to be something he isn’t and these brand new powers, he feels lost, unsure of where he belongs. This doesn’t get better when he’s forced to go to the academy. So, he drops out and tries to find his own way. It wasn’t until he met with Sensei Wu that he finally got the answers he wanted. Understanding his powers, understanding a part of who he is, and, most importantly, starting the journey to understand where he belongs
With or without his element, he is very strong. I headcanon that he has a rock climber's body, but he also has the most muscles in the ninja team. I like to think Cole often lifts weights to help boost his super strength, which has come in handy when he lost his element before. Seeing Ninjago for the second time, I've noticed that when the ninja lose their element due to circumstances, Cole is still really strong. Like in Season 1, during the GD finale, when he threw a car at the GD.
Cole was the ninja team leader until Sons of Garmadon when Lloyd was mentally old enough to try the leadership role. I strongly stand firm to this because after Lloyd was aged physically by Tomorrow's Tea, there's no way he should have been the leader at such a young age.
Cole's hobbies include rock climbing, archery, dancing, drawing, and cooking.
Cole is actually a good cook. After Lilly died, he had to cook for himself and his dad for many years. The only reason his cooking fails is that people tamper with his recipes; thus, they don't end up so good.
In honor of Kirby Morrow (RIP KING!), Cole doesn't just like cake. His favorite is Ice Cream Cake, especially hot Fudge Swirl Chocolate Ice Cream Cake.
Cole, minus Zane, because he was homeschooled by Dr Julien, has the most education of the ninjas. He went to school for quite a few years extra compared to the others and went to the Marty Oppenheimer School of Performing Arts before he dropped out two or three days later. I'd like to think Cole actually liked school and learning, but when his dad forced the performing arts on him, his love for school was immediately cut short.
Cole would have gotten into an art degree if he hadn't been forced into the Marty Oppenheimer School of Performing Arts. He seems to really enjoy drawing and sketching.
Cole is hairy. He can't grow a moustache to save his life, but he has hair on his legs, arms, and chest. Maybe in his future, he'll finally grow something on his face but as of right now (not counting DR seasons), he can only dream of the glorious beard or moustache he will have.

The Character of Cole in my Ninjago AU
So, about Cole...
His father, Lou, is both a dancer and singer, while his mother, Lilly... is a explorer, if he's not mistaken. She always travels for long periods of days, but she's always well-welcomed when she gets home.
Cole's father is a nice man, but his mom is really the one more connected to Cole. He always looks forward for anything they are going to do together. Of course, all they do is as a family, the three of them together.
Then, his mom suddenly got really sick. No one could understand what happened. She was always so vivid, so healthy... How did happened? Cole was completely devastaded.
Then she couldn't take it anymore. His mom was dead. And it was like a part of himself died with her that day. He didn't know how to live without.
But to his father, it looked like simple enough. He kept singing, he kept dancing. Now more than ever. Cole don't understands why he would do such things. The love of his life just died, and instead of being sad, his father doubled down on his performances.
He almost didn't take care of Cole anymore. Cole had to become the adult of their life. He learned how to cook (barely), he learned to play bills, he learned that life wasn't sunshine and rainbows.
Noticing that Cole was still griefing, Lou decided that the best he could deal with that was sending his son to the Marty Oppenheimer School of Performing Arts, a place where Cole could follow his father's footsteps.
Cole hated that place. He liked singing and dancing, but he wasn't that good at it, and he knew he was never going to be as good as his father. So one day he just ran away. He became a loner in the world, trying to fit something at the hole his mother left behind on his life.
Then, one day, he met Wu. He didn't expected that everything in his life would change after that. He became part of a team, he was the one leading them, showing the way, being the responsible one. He knew how to be all of that. And his friends like him and admire him for that. Cole knows that he is in a better place. A place he can once again call home.
Maybe the only bad side of this is that he puts a lot on his shoulders, even blaming himself alone when something goes wrong. After all, he HAS to be reliable, he HAS to be strong, he HAS to be a wall.
He just hopes that one day his parents can forgive him for not meeting their expectations, nor their legacies...

I know we all joke about the ninja being dumb, but looking at their combined education...it's honestly a wonder that they're functioning this well.
To start off:
Cole: Probably had the most education out of all of them. Canonically went to grade school, before his mother passed and he attended the Marty Oppenheimer School of Performing Arts before running away. Was old enough for the school to not alert his father at least (or check with him, if Cole lied about needing to drop out), so it was either a high school/college/mixture boarding school at the very least.
Jay: Also went to grade school (his s7 comments about History Museum field trips). Assuming Kai, Cole, and Jay are all in their mid-late teens at the series start, he probably also had some form of high school education, plus mechanic/inventor knowledge from Ed & Edna. May have dropped out/already graduated when Wu found him. The only reason he's lower than Cole is that his presumed education past grade school is uncertain.
Zane: Technically, since Zane is a nindroid, he didn't need school. However, we are shown that Dr. Julien built Zane to progressively learn similar to a human in at least some respects, so I'd say Zane was "homeschooled" (if unconventionally). It is shown that flipping off his memory switch did not take away from his learned skills, so Zane is very much educated and capable prior to his nindroid discovery.
Nya: Went to grade school (also s7 History Museum field trip comments), but probably dropped out/did not finish her high school education, due to being in her early/mid-teens when she and Kai joined Wu, and her seeming to run the customer service and financial aspects of Four Weapons. Nya is also a very skilled inventor, mechanic, and pilot, which are most likely skills she picked up from being thrust into independence at a young age.
Lloyd: Was dropped off at Darkley's Boarding School for Bad Boys at a very young age. He ran away multiple times, and was eventually kicked out in Season 1, for "lacking the amoral ambition to become one of tomorrow's masterminds". It's known that not much teaching happened at Darkley's at the time, in favor of lessons in evildoing, so young Lloyd's primary source of education came from the ninja. It can be safely assumed he was tutored to some extent, due to the behavior of his older self, but Lloyd's education was still minimal, at least.
Kai: Kai comes in at the bottom of the list for one simple reason: it's unknown if he ever attended school at all, let alone how much. He doesn't chime in on the s7 History Museum field trip conversation, and due to having been abandoned at a young age, it's possible he had to sacrifice his own education for Nya's. We know Kai took up blacksmithing, which seemed to be the sibling's primary, if only, source of income. He threw himself into his work, and though it seems a bit shoddy in the pilots, he was good enough to reforge the Golden Weapons in s10, showing he did possess at least some skill, if not being downright amazing. Looking into his behavior, mannerisms, and general knowledge on other occasions, Kai comes across to me as someone who maybe completed elementary school, but probably never went higher in favor of keeping Four Weapons afloat and his sister supported.
As a Gifted Kid™, I think it just goes to show that while education is important, it's not the end of the world if you're a bit slow or didn't get to complete yours. The ninja may be barely functioning at times, but they've also saved the realm(s) at least once a season, with or without trigonometry. It depends on your path in life, and as Cole tells Lou, he's decided that he doesn't want to follow in his father's footsteps, but forge his own path.
Also, Bonus:
Morro: Was literally on the street, taking food from trashcans to survive, before he was found by Wu. It can be assumed Wu tutored him in some way, though Morro ran away young, probably around his early-mid teens, judging by his size. He also died young, around the same age as the present-day ninja, so it can be assumed his education probably never surpassed middle school.
Pixal: Was created to be the personal android assistant of Cyrus Borg, becoming the 16th - and final - attempt, after her 15 predecessors failed to work properly. Being an advanced android, Pixal was created with and had access to all the knowledge she would ever need. However, she still had much to learn; particularly, in her social and emotional aspects, and continues to grow. As Zane once said, "She taught me more about being a nindroid, and I like to think I taught her more about being human".

Cole my favorite human ninja! Finally after fiddling around I decided on my design for Cole, and idk if it's just me but I loved his longer hair style so I'm keeping it! Also I think it'd be interesting if Cole straightened his hair when he was younger. I know someone with textured hair who did ballet/dance for a while and he was either told to keep his hair super short or straighten it and gel it down so I thought it'd be an interesting thing to throw in for younger Cole's design since he was a dancer for a while.
So I will never get over how I wish they explored his backstory more in the show honestly I wish they explored most of the ninjas back stories more cause them kids had some pretty fucked up childhoods even before they became ninja (except for Jay he seemed like he was doing okay (?) he didn't know he was adopted yet and Ed and Edna have only ever been shown as really sweet so). Like Nya and Kai grew up with no parental figures, Lloyd went to Darkly's and then wound up on the streets for a while, Zane watched his father die and then got memory wiped, and Cole's a whole other mess.
Like His mother died when he was what like 5/6 years old (the Ninjago timeline is nonexistent) his father neglected him after her death leaving him to take on all chores and tasks in the house and the only way his father would only pay attention was if he was doing dance. Then he failed a extremely complex dance move as a child and in the episode The Royal Blacksmiths it seems as if his father liked to remind him of this, in that episode Cole also says that he's not a good dancer but we know that he got into the Marty Oppenheimer School for Performing Arts.
Now being a performing arts school that we can assume is a boarding school since Cole's father seems unfazed that he's not coming home, it's probably a pretty nice school. Not to mention boarding schools are private, hard to get into and sometimes even by invite only, this means Cole likely had to at least be talented enough to get INTO the school. Judging from how Cole's father talks to him (and the other ninja during practice) in the episode Royal Blacksmiths it wouldn't be to surprising if Cole only THOUGHT he was bad, I mean he successfully does the triple tiger sashay by the end of the episode after seemingly being out of practice for years, so I don't think it would be to far fetched to say that he was actually pretty good at dance.
As another fun fact apparently Cole may have taught Lloyd a bit of dance for agility/flexibility training which I think is really fun (it's mentioned in a book idk if it's cannon but it's fun to imagine it is!). Also I love the Royal Blacksmiths episode as a queer person cause it's literally a stereotypical coming out episode but like as a ninja and it never fails to make me laugh.
I think Cole's relationship with his father is really interesting because we see him I'd say the least out of all the Ninjago parents, like seriously I'm pretty sure we see more of Maya who was assumed dead for 6 1/2 seasons (that's probably 17-18 years in cannon) than we see of Lou. Now I'm pretty sure a good chunk of people I've seen talk about him are pretty split on whether or not he's a good or bad parent/if him and Cole are on good terms, in my opinion I don't really think he's a very good parent, we know for a fact he was neglectful while also putting a lot of pressure on Cole when he did dance, as for anything else we're really only able to infer and idk I just feel like he's not that great of a parent.
Now this is more my opinion just based off what we see of him, I don't think Cole and his father are all that close since unlike other parents such as Ray, Maya, Ed, Enda and even Misako we rarely if ever see him in the background congratulating the Ninja after a battle or helping them after a loss, in fact he actually just straight up doesn't go to Nya’s eulogy (which is in line with his character since it's been said he's not good with dealing with grief but it's still pretty shitty to do) I don't think Cole hates him or anything but I don't think that they're close or talk all to much even without the whole merge situation.
Anyways I've spent way to long rambling about this but yeah, again this is just my opinion! I love love love this Lego show and Cole is one of my favorite characters and I'm glad in DR he's getting more attention, in fact a lot of the ninja are (minus Jay) while also allowing the new elemental masters develop which is just so fun to watch!
Hope y'all have a great day/night PEACE OUT!

Cole
Cole + Humiliation
Pain shot through Cole's knees as he overbalanced and crashed to the floor. Again.
"Brookstone!"
He winced.
Cole refused to look up at the instructor. He stared at his hands, clenched on the dance floor.
"Brookstone, how many times do I have to tell you? Light on your feet. Get back up and try again."
Cole was trying. Couldn't she see that?
"I can't do it," Cole whispered, hating the words.
"Come again?" Her tap shoes beat out an impatient rhythm.
Cole finally looked up. The teacher's sneer cut like glass. But behind her, the rest of the class giggled to each other. Shame rippled through his tight chest.
"How'd you even get into the Marty Oppenheimer School of Performing Arts if you can't even dance?" laughed a tall blond girl.
"I can dance," Cole whispered, thinking of his mom. When his mom and dad danced together, Cole danced with them. He'd been balanced then. He'd been good then.
He'd been happy then.
"Don't mutter," the instructor snapped.
"I can dance!" Cole said, feeling his cheeks heat up.
"Prove it. Go again."
Cole got to his feet. He readied himself, going through the moves of the dance step.
But with all eyes on him, clearly judging him, laughing at him, doubting him, hating him, his feet felt like giant rocks. He tripped, slamming to the floor again.
"Oh yeah, you can totally dance," the blond girl laughed.
Instead of reprimanding her, the instructor turned on Cole.
"No one moves on until you do this, Brookstone."
Everyone groaned.
"Just kick him out already!" someone in the clump of students cried.
"Don't bother," Cole growling, getting to his feet. He turned and sprinted out of the room, wiping away his tears.
That night, he ran away for good.

Random hcs I have because I may be cringe but I'm free part 26 (Ninjago, again)
My Ninja singing hcs cuz I love music and singing and I think the sillies would too.
When it comes to Cole, there are only two ways the hc can go, either you think he's terrible, like in the oni trilogy, or he's a wonderful singer with a beautiful natural voice and the technique to match, who just doesn't know what to do with that stupid Gloworm song (I mean COME ON, he went to the Marty Oppenheimer School of Performing Arts ffs). I choose to believe in the latter. Whatever you choose he is still vastly better at dancing than singing.
Kai actually has a pretty great (and fittingly, very powerful) voice and he could be amazing if he ever decided to take actual lessons, but he couldn't care less. What he's interested in, and therefore weirdly good at, is distortion. Growls, vocal fry, screams, even just regular old belting, anything that would push anybody else's voice to its limits, he can do it all and does so willingly and extremely well. (Cole is lowkey jealous)
Jay can SING omg (when he's actually trying anyway). Jay's the kind of guy who has a wonderful (and surprisingly powerful) natural voice without any kind of lessons or training but if he isn't focusing on/into the song or doesn't really care abt how he sounds then it just sounds like talking/shouting. But when he's alone, or listening to smth he really likes, or deliberately trying to impress, bro sounds ANGELIC (Cole and Kai are BOTH jealous of this one(and this one kinda feeds into my Japanese Jay hc but my brain decided that when he's doing more hardcore stuff, he sounds like mafumafu))
Once again, this one was hard because Zane only ever sings with the help of some kind of nindroid shenanigans, so I dont have a lot to go off of but I'm happy with what I came up with so 🤷‍♀️. Anyway, Zane's normal speaking voice is really clear and smooth and slightly accented and wonderful and he has perfect understanding of music theory and all the technical aspects of making a voice sound pleasant and musical, and he sounds really good when he hums, and he's got the technique DOWN, but his voice just always sounds weird somehow, so whenever he wants to sing along to smth and sound a certain way while doing it, he'll just replace his own voice with the original vocalists or another generated voice that he thinks sounds good. He still has an absolute blast though.
It is a rare and I mean RARE occurrence to hear Lloyd sing and 99% of the time someone does manage to pick up his voice, he sounds slightly below average, even if he's actually putting in some effort for once. But that ultra rare 1%, when someone manages to overhear him late at night, almost silently raiding the cupboards for candy as he quietly sings the softest, sweetest, and most comforting melodies to ever be given lyrics, then he sounds pretty wonderful. Don't let that fool you though, it's his comfort zone for a reason.
Like her brother, Nya has a pretty awesome natural voice, but, also like her brother, she doesn't really care for "normal" singing. She tends to lean more towards rapping, usually resulting in her unconsciously putting more energy into rap segments than the rest of the song, and the rest of the team. However, she absolutely ADORES hearing the others sing, especially Jay "What? He just has a nice voice. It has absolutely nothing to do with our relationship, no way". Its like she can sense whenever Cole and Jay are having another random duet and she always manages to "coincidentally" appear before the song ends.
Pixal was originally programmed by Cyrus Borg to have a lovely, gentle, mother-like singing voice, and she definitely appreciates it (its surprisingly come in handy on quite a few missions) but she finds it just a little too different from her normal speaking voice for her to get totally into it. She usually prefers to stay away from vocals anyway, finding that she has more fun tapping her fingers or toes or even just making percussive mouth sounds to the rhythm of whatever's playing (and these days, she's kinda hesitant to even do that, ever since Zane accidentally let it slip that he thinks its "positively adorable")

Another question! Your ocs, what are they like? Where's they're involvement in the story?
Rosemary Corvus: Rosie is the elemental master of Fauna, her powers allow to communicate with and summon animals to aid her in battle. She's Cole's quiet best friend then later turned adopted sister. They met at The Marty Oppenheimer School of performing arts. Though unlike Cole she was there because she wanted to be due to her passion for guitar, but found it wasn't what she hoping for and left some time after he had. They reunite in ninjago city during the events in the episode Can Of Worms after running into Zane then helping him rescue the others then joins the team upon helping them return home. Fast forwarding to season 4 she meets and developes a crush on Skylor during the tournament and then later forms a romantic relationship.
Gertrude Hellebore: Gertie's a gracefully chaotic witch that was raised/trained by the oni Mystaké and I based her off circus cotton candy. One of her purposes in the story is to explore Ninjagos magical system, which I'm planning on going into detail when posting her designs. She joins the cast during Childs Play and leaves her mothers tea shop to help Nya and Wu re-age the ninja and then stays with them for the rest the events that follow. She developes a friendship with Nya then realizes she has a crush on her after Nya breaks things off with Jay season 3. Nya gets feelings for her as well and these two very intelligent girls end up being oblivious idiots for a bit before finally getting together in season 7.
Cirrus Avril: I don't have him completely figured out yet but Cirrus is the elemental master of clouds and a teenage king that rules over a sky nation called Atmos. He appears in earlier seasons as a childhood friend of Lloyd's before he and his mom are discovered as missing royalty by the former king and first em of clouds, Stratos. He's crowned king by the time of Season 13 where he's invited to Vania's birthday as well.

Fallen Au Cole
Tumblr media
Follow for more art :D
Jay • Kai • Zane • Nya • Lloyd
Backstory:
“Not good enough” was what he was told everyday by his father ever since he was able to walk. Back then at least he had his mother to protect him and love him, but now she was gone. Humiliation after humiliation and when he wasn’t being humiliated by his father he wasn’t even there. He was constantly left alone as his father went to sing and dance with his friends. His father didn’t love him, he only loved his mother, and now that she was gone, he had no reason to stay home for him. His father decided to send him away to Marty Oppenheimer school of performing arts. Not only did his father not care for him, but he also wanted to get rid of him. No. Cole couldn’t take it anymore. The day he was sent there he ran away. He got a job as a DJ in a club. It was fun, but his life felt empty. One day he decided he wanted to fly. He wanted to be like his mother. An angel. He started climbing mountains, they made him feel detached, free. An escape from his grief. One day during sunset he jumped. He extended his wings and he soared. He felt free, he felt happy. He continued doing it, once a week he climbed a different mountain and jumped to soar.
His life was great until he received a letter from his father. It said he was proud of Cole for entering the school. Proud. His father was proud of him. A horrible feeling filled him from inside. He ran. He needed to fly. Rain started to pour. He didn’t care. He needed to get to the top. He needed to fly. The rain became a storm. He didn’t care. Lightning stroke. He needed to get there. He arrived. The cold water touched him. Hatred, sadness, and a bitter guilt filled him. Why? Why was his father proud of him? All his father ever did was criticize him for everything, his father didn’t care about him, did he? He couldn’t take it anymore and he jumped. He extended his wings as he always did, but he didn’t soar. The rain weighed him down, the wind made it hard to see. He tried flapping his wings. He hit a mountain with one of his wings. It hurt. He couldn’t move it. He fell. He was going to die. He fell through fog. It was cold, too cold and he lost consciousness. He woke up. Pain. He looked at the origin of it. There were boulders crushing his wing. He screamed, but nobody came. He was alone.
He woke up in an unfamiliar place. Last he remembered he was dying. He stood up and groaned. He explored this unfamiliar place. There were pictures in the corridors, pictures of winged people falling down and a dragon roaring from below. He got a bit scared, he didn’t like dragons, so he decided to leave. He climbed to take a look at where he was. He was on a mountain. He uncloaked and extended his wings. Unlike all the times he did it before, this time he felt more weight on one side than the other. Oh. His wing was gone. “Why did you climb the mountain?” a man that definitely wasn’t there before said. Why did he climb the mountain? Why did he jump? “I- I just lost someone and my dad should be sad but all he does is sing and dance, leaving me alone all the time” “Grief manifests in many ways, some sing and dance, others climb mountains” “Why did you climb the mountain?” “To save you Cole

Finally did Cole. Tbh out of the main four his backstory is my favorite. I'm probably a bit biased because he is my favorite character. I just love how real it feels.

I've always had this headcanon that Jay's parents would send them work packets to do in between like big missions and Wu would enforce it by not letting them play or train or smth. This way they're at least at their grade level growing up. Though I also like thinking the packets would be personalized depending on how advanced there are in a subject like let's say in season 3, Jay and Nya would probably be in like highschool - college level maths whereas Kai would probably be like still in middle - early highschool maths.
As for while growing up I'm thinking that the Marty Oppenheimer School of Performing Arts is like a secondary school so Cole is probably done with elementary education. And I saw this one post that Tommy Andreasen(?) always believed that the village helped out a bit with Nya and Kai's predicament (Or I'm just delusional 🤷), so they probably helped them learn at their level as well. Jay I'm assuming went to some kinda public school or was maybe homeschooled, I dunno. But he seems pretty caught in his studies so he probably also finished elementary by the time he met Wu.
Okay, I don't know if it's just me thinking about this, but did the ninja receive a proper education, especially Nya, Kai, and Lloyd?
I'm not really sure how to explain this, but they were all really young when they became ninja, like 13-15 years old minus Lloyd, that would mean they technically left school around 6th to 9th grade. And then there's Lloyd, who left school when he was about 10, and even then, wasn't his school supposed to teach kids how to be evil? So it couldn't have even started teaching Lloyd basic things like money and stuff. And with Nya and Kai, they were abandoned when they were kids, with no parent figure (as far as I know) making them go to school and stuff and ig people can say stuff like "oh how does nya build suff if she didnt go to school" but that could just be because she had to grow up and her own and learn to fix things so yea

Note
When you and the other ninja got famous, did the Marty Oppenheimer School of performing arts ever reach out when they heard you were supposed to attend their school?
Uhmmm, If they did it honestly probably just got lost in junk mail.
I mean for the whole 2 days I attended I was like. A horrible student for them cuz I hated that place. So. Wouldn't surprise me if they never reached out

Bound and Gagged
Tumblr media
the red marks the prompts that have been filled, and the white marks the prompts that have been requested.
@badthingshappenbingo
I edited this while a movie was on so I apologize if I missed something
Prompt: bound and gagged
Fandom: Ninjago
Character: Cole
Trigger Warnings: creepy adult acting creepy towards minor. Nothing sexual but the vibes are absolutely disgusting
2638 words
“Mr. Brookstone, come see me after class.”
Crap.
It was Cole’s last class of the day and he had really been looking forward to going back to his dorm and passing out. The day had been tiring enough already.
“Yes sir,” he said, biting his tongue. He had absolutely no idea what it was he’d done, but hopefully, whatever it was about would be quick.
The bell rang.
“Have a good weekend Mr. Hampton!” One of the boys chirped as he headed towards the door.
“Thank you, Mr. Turner.”
Within only a few minutes, Cole was the last one in the room.
“I don’t want you to think you’re in trouble, Mr. Brookstone, you’re not.”
He breathed a quiet sigh of relief.
“But I do want to discuss your recent performance in this class.”
“Sir?”
“You’ve been sloppy, careless, your form has been, for lack of a better word, atrocious.”
Well that was always nice to hear.
“Now, I don’t like to fail my students without giving them a chance to fix their grades. I am an understanding teacher, after all.”
Honestly, Cole had never been very fond of Mr. Hampton, but yeah, okay, whatever.
“So what, like extra credit?” Cole asked, hoping to speed this up so he could get back to his dorm as soon as possible.
“Something like that,” Mr. Hampton agreed. “Now Cole,” he said, taking a few steps and practically circling the boy, “I’m going to need you to trust me.”
“Um, okay, sure.”
Something ugly settled in Cole’s gut, but he opted to ignore it.
“I’m going to ask you to do something strange, but I promise it’s only going to serve to make you a better dancer. It’s a very reliable technique.”
Cole stood there awkwardly while Mr. Hampton went to his desk. He shifted side to side, wishing he could just go back to his dorm. Still, it was whatever, this couldn’t take that long.
Mr. Hampton pulled out rope.
That was… weird.
“Hold still, now,” he said, walking back with it, and then he wrapped the rope around Cole’s chest. That was most definitely weird.
“Um… what are you doing?” Cole asked, uncomfortable.
Cole could feel a knot being tied. “It’s going to help your flexibility,” Mr. Hampton explained, continuing to tie the rope. Cole, against all voices of reason, didn’t even try to stop him. “It’s not going to hurt.”
Within minutes (and Cole really didn’t know how he felt about how quickly and expertly Mr. Hampton was doing this), his chest, shoulders, and arms were covered in a series of knots. His hands were behind his back, and Cole knew without trying that he couldn’t free himself if he wanted to.
A small part of him hoped his discomfort would be obvious enough that his teacher would stop, but that didn’t seem to be getting him very far. The binding continued.
It was his own anxiety that kept his mouth shut.
More rope, more binding, and soon one of his legs was done up too. And then, then, to make matters worse, Mr. Hampton was beginning to thread one of the ropes through a hook-type-thing on the ceiling. He’d always wondered what those were for.
“I don’t know if I’m comfortable with this,” Cole said, very quiet. He told people that he wasn’t afraid of anything, and this wasn’t fear, it was just… anxiety.
“Nonsense,” Mr. Hampton said, hardly even pausing.
As all of this was happening, Cole decided the worst part was having his teacher’s hands on him so much. Sure, as a dancer he was used to having adults touch him, but that was always a firm, correcting type of thing.
This was different than that, and Cole didn’t like it.
Before he knew it, one of his legs was in the air, along with a rope holding the upper half of his body up by what felt like his bound arms. The only thing he could really move was his free leg, but he had to hold himself up with that.
All in all, Cole was incredibly uncomfortable.
“Is this really necessary?” Cole asked, hissing through the pain of the position.
“Believe me, Cole, it is absolutely necessary. Drastic measures must be taken when students are falling so far behind.” He fiddled with one of the ropes, bringing Cole’s leg higher into the air. At the sudden change, Cole couldn’t help but cry out.
“We can’t have you yelling like that,” Mr. Hampton said. “We wouldn’t want someone to come in here and get the wrong idea.”
Cole wasn’t entirely sure where he thought his teacher meant by that, but of all the things he thought he might have expected, he definitely wasn’t expecting a small rag-looking-thing to be pulled out of the bottom of a drawer, followed by a ring of duct tape.
“Hey, wait,” Cole said, “What are you doing with that?”
“This type of training takes silence. It takes concentration, meditation, even. This will help you achieve a focused state of mind,” Mr. Hampton said, gripping Cole’s chin and stuffing the rag into his mouth before he could protest. The duct tape went after, covering his mouth and effectively gagging him.
Cole couldn’t lie: he was on the verge of panicking. While he had technically said he was okay with this, or, at least, he hadn’t said no, he was beyond uncomfortable, and even a little scared, now.
His legs were burning already.
He tried to say something, but with the gag, all that came out was muffled cries.
Instead of, oh, he didn’t know, removing the gag, instead, Mr. Hampton proceeded to pull a bandana out of his pocket and began to wrap it around Cole’s head. Over his eyes. So he couldn’t see.
Okay, now he was really freaking out. He was completely bound, unable to free himself or even move, completely at his teacher’s mercy. Needless to say, he didn’t exactly trust Mr. Hampton not to harm him.
He yelled through the gag, but it came out just as muffled as the first attempt.
He felt a hand on his shoulder, the pressure of it pushing his body down, against the ropes. Shit, that hurt.
“No talking. Just relax, focus on your balance and your flexibility. I’ll be here the whole time.”
That wasn’t very comforting.
The hand left his shoulder, and Cole exhaled, trying to adjust his one free limb so the rest of his body would sit better. It didn’t work.
He heard footsteps, something that sounded like the rolling of a chair, maybe? It sounded like Mr. Hampton had gone to sit down at his desk. Yeah, that would make sense.
Cole wished he could sit. He was flexible, yes, but his suspended leg was being lifted higher than he could go even after spending forever stretching. It burned.
Had the tick of the clock always been so loud? He usually hardly even noticed it, but right now, it was impossible to ignore.
The ropes dug into his skin, only adding to the mess of it all. Between having to support himself on one leg for this long, the positions his limbs were being forced into, the discomfort of the ropes, and the rag in his mouth, Cole was in a pretty bad position.
He breathed purposefully, trying to keep himself calm. Focus on the position. Maybe it would ease the pain?
It was hard to focus on the position when his mind kept wandering to things like the sound of the air conditioner and the ticking of the clock.
The longer he stood there, the more everything hurt. He was beginning to lose feeling in his arms, now.
He heard papers being shuffled, the clicking of a pen, and the occasional tapping of a keyboard.
He wished he could at least see. At least then he could focus on something other than the pain. He would gladly even count the tiles on the floor if he could.
He settled for counting the constant tick of the clock. He couldn’t decide whether it was soothing or maddening.
Fuck, this was really starting to hurt.
A knocking startled him out of his thoughts. He would have jolted had he not been so… well, tied up.
He heard the chair rolling slightly, then footsteps again.
Something akin to another rolling sound, but not quite. The room divider, maybe? He wasn’t entirely sure. He hated not being able to see what was going on around him.
The door opened.
“Hi Mr. Hampton,” someone said. “Is this a bad time?”
“No, no, it’s a perfectly fine time. What do you need?”
Cole found himself both listening and completely zoning out at the same time. His heart was pounding so hard, so loud, and it was all he could hear.
He had no idea if whoever it was — definitely another student, he was sure — could even see him. Would he even want someone else to see him?
No, no definitely not. He already knew people would make fun of him for it if they found out. Cole was a decent performer, in his own opinion, but he hadn’t had much luck with social interaction, and the other students didn’t seem to like him much.
If anyone were to find out about this, he’d never hear the end of it. How pathetic he was.
He shifted as best he could, praying he wasn’t in sight.
“Thanks! See you Monday,” the student said, and the door opened and closed again softly, followed by the click of a lock.
Cole exhaled, thankful he hadn’t been caught.
Well… not caught, per se. It wasn’t like anything bad was happening. But still, the thought of anyone seeing him like this, so vulnerable, left him feeling nauseous.
He felt a hand pat his head. “Smart boy,” Mr. Hampton hummed.
Cole groaned through the gag, hoping it would be taken as a plea to be released.
Unfortunately, he was just pat on the head again and told to “quiet down, now.”
More silence. More tick tick ticks, more shuffling of papers. Cole wasn’t sure whether to love or hate the sound of shuffling fucking papers. He supposed without them he’d be driven crazy by something else, anyway.
His ears were ringing, now.
The ropes bit into his skin viciously. He wished they could at least be loosened, but no, they stayed burning into his flesh, holding him in place. His skin was probably red in the places that weren’t covered by his clothes.
Even his jaw was aching, now. How long had he been stuck like this? He felt like one of those dancer figurines you could find online. Forever frozen in the middle of a routine. That’s what this was, he decided. A frozen, horrible moment in time.
After an infinity of typing and papers and pen clicking all over again, he heard the telltale rolling of a chair.
Footsteps made their way over, and Cole’s skin practically crawled in anticipation.
He could feel the ropes being fiddled with, and finally, finally the relief that came with his leg being released. He could have cried.
“There you go,” Mr. Hampton said, messing with the other ropes too.
It didn’t take long to be completely freed, but each second dragged by so slowly that Cole wanted to scream. He was so close to freedom.
Finally, the last of the rope was gone, and then went the blindfold and gag. Cole’s knees buckled, and he could do nothing to stop himself as he collapsed on the floor. He stayed there, breathing heavy.
“Good work today, Mr. Brookstone,” Mr. Hampton said, collecting the ropes. “I expect to see an improvement in your form next class.”
“Yes sir,” Cole nodded, shakily getting to his feet.
And then, finally, he was allowed to leave. He made his way back to his dorm, falling into his bed almost immediately. He felt like he could sleep for multiple days on end.
It didn’t take long to drift off.
The weekend passed slow and uneventful. It was boring, but it was peaceful. For once, Cole didn’t mind it.
Thankfully, no one seemed to know about what had happened. He’d just about die if anyone were to find out.
Eventually, class rolled back around. Cole made sure to be at his very best, hoping he wouldn’t need to go through another day of “extra credit”. He wasn’t sure he could handle it.
As class ended and everyone was filing out, Cole felt his heart absolutely stop when his teacher called his name.
Please don’t say it.
“Good work today, Mr. Brookstone,” Mr. Hampton said, and Cole couldn’t help the relief that came with those few words. “Your performance today was excellent.”
“Thank you,” Cole said.
“Run along now, Cole.”
Over the next few days of class, Cole slowly allowed himself to relax. Sure, he was still putting in effort, but he was finally loosening up.
Until about two weeks after the initial event. It began the same as the first time; Mr. Hampton pulling him aside after class, telling him his performance was dropping, and offering up a “solution”.
Knowing what to expect didn’t make it any better.
Cole just stood there, let ropes be looped around his body and a blindfold take away his sight. He tried not to make much noise, this time. The gag made it hard to breathe.
But after only a few minutes, out of nowhere, it was being pushed into his mouth.
Cole didn’t fight it.
He couldn’t if he wanted to. He was smaller and weaker than Mr. Hampton, even without the ropes.
Besides, it didn’t matter if he was uncomfortable. He couldn’t very well say no to someone who had almost complete authority over him, especially when it wasn’t even like the situation was that bad.
He was just overreacting.
This time, he was forced into the splits, while his torso was bent over forwards and his arms were tied behind his back, pulling in the opposite direction.
It hurt, and he couldn’t help the low whine that escaped him. He had no way of knowing if his teacher had even heard.
It only happened three more times that month. Each time it was a different position, and each time, Cole thought it would get easier. It never did.
It always left deep imprints in his skin, the only evidence that anything had happened at all other than his aching limbs. But the imprints faded fast, and the aches followed sooner or later.
Honestly, the worst part about it was the way his teacher got more and more… he didn’t know the word for it. Closer. More touches. It made Cole a little bit nauseous to think about.
Inherently, the situation wasn’t bad. But Cole wasn’t stupid. Or maybe he was. It was his fault for getting into this in the first place, wasn’t it?
He kept his mouth shut for the next few months out of fear. Maybe as a punishment for himself.
He was stupid to get himself into this mess, and he was pathetic for not knowing how to get himself out. He supposed he deserved the pain that came with it all.
He’d wanted to run away long before this had started, and every day it seemed like a more appealing option.
Run away. Run from your problems, because you’re too scared, too pathetic, to face them.
He stayed a month longer.
He only made up his mind after waking from a dream. No, a nightmare.
He could barely remember it, but he had woken up crying, and he had woken up ready to go.
He shoved only the essentials into his bag, and before his roommate could wake up, he got the hell out of there.
He didn’t look back.
