Snow Goose at Martin Mere and view at Blashford Lakes earlier in the month, phone photo of snowdrops in Winchester at lunch time and raindrops on the window this evening and Black Swan at Riverside Park on Sunday.

It was also great to hear a Dunnock and Wren singing beautifully and see Woodpigeon, Jackdaw and winter heliotrope today.

marc's plan was as always to cause a show! if he's there the show is there! how boring to win a race from pole or the front row! no of course he had to qualify badly so that all of the attention was on him when he inevitably overtook half of the grid and still managed a podium in both the sprint and the race!

it is like. if i’m gigi and i’m looking at this weekend. what’s more impressive: getting pole winning the sprint and then winning the race proper on a factory bike when he’s been on a ducati practically his entire career. very clean very dominant. also very boring. ORRRRR the guy who is on a year OLD bike with only five races to adapt from the honda, flopped into q2 for myriad reasons and then said fuck it and passed eleven people (INCLUDING DADDY’S NUMBER ONE CANDY BABY PECCO BAGNAIA) at a track that is notoriously hard to overtake on and holds the record for dry crashes in motogp. TWICE ! like both are impressive but only ONE ! is entertaining

Visiting WWT Martin Mere January 2025

Many large Whooper Swans as though you could see for miles,

Bulky yet elegant, boisterous yet gentle, bringing many smiles,

Elation also for the Black-tailed Godwits, Lapwings and Ruff,

Riveting close up views, I could never get enough,

More secretive was the Water Rail,

And Cetti’s Warbler with its distinctive upright tail,

Geese galore, their feet and bills pink,

Snipe! You’ll miss it should you dare to blink,

Earlier in the day precious Snow Bunting views near Southport’s pier,

Then the phenomenal day in WWT Martin Mere,

Whilst the temperature may have been harsh,

Warming my heart at both the harrier of the marsh,

Wigeon, Pochard, Teal, Gadwall and Pintail,

To captivate me the ducks did not fail,

Two flowers observed were hardy white deadnettle and red campion,

Redwing, Greenfinch and Little Grebe more birds to champion,

Great Spotted Woodpecker, Reed Buntings on ice,

Treecreeper also from this hide was very nice,

Scenes of the Fieldfare in the fog, Shelduck on the frost,

In nature’s winter wonder I was gleefully lost,
