Before Nirvana hit it big, Kurt Cobain was a struggling musician who befriended Mary Lou Lord, a Salem, Massachusetts, indie-folk artist. Seeing that Kurt didn’t have much money and that he needed an acoustic guitar for Nirvana’s upcoming tour to support their album Nevermind, Mary Lou let Kurt gave her 1953 D-18 that they both affectionately referred to as "Grandpa." She knew Kurt loved the guitar as much as she did, and, at the time, he needed it more than she did.
Eventually Grandpa was returned to Mary Lou, but Kurt’s love of Martin D-18s didn’t end there. He went on to purchase a 1959 D-18E that was used on Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged special.

For more information about each guitar, visit ANALOGr.
Last month, the "Frankenstrat" guitar that Eddie Van Halen played both onstage and in the classic video for Van Halen's "Hot For Teacher" sold at auction for $3.9 million.
Only two other guitars have ever sold for more at auction, both of which were once owned by Nirvana's Kurt Cobain. Cobain's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" Mustang sold for $4,550,000 and his Martin D-18E, which he used for Nirvana's "MTV Unplugged" set, sold for $6,010,000.
ANALOGr provides access to a highly curated collection of music-related assets from some of pop culture's most important moments. The easy-to-use platform contains a diverse selection of rare, one-of-a-kind studio gear and memorabilia that anyone can view and bid on. All items available on the ANALOGr platform are sold without any buyer premium fees. Once a consignor has chosen the winning bid for a given item, the auction closes and the item along with its updated provenance records are delivered to the buyer. The ANALOGr marketplace has handled over $3 million in sales through word of mouth alone, with 95% of sales being completed without any timed element and for up to 30% less cost than competitors.
Unlike typical auction houses that are driven by commissions from timed auctions, ANALOGr is aligned with the consignor in maximizing value through true collaboration in the editorial, reserve pricing, sales channel, and final say on the acceptance of all winning bids. In exchange for ANALOGr's services (including travel, storage, insurance, shipping, packing, photography, video production, editorial, sales events, marketing and PR) consignors pay a flat percentage.
The company's mission is to tell the story of each item through its owner's passionate relationship with it, which is evidenced by the thorough records and detailed descriptions included in every listing. A fundamental component of this mission is to act as historical archivists of musical items, chronicling each piece's unique journey in order to show the world the true story of these amazing artifacts. The ANALOGr team acts as an advocate for the inclusion of consignors and dedicates every resource to providing a truly boutique concierge service.
"Every picture tells a story, as does every instrument, machine, vinyl, outfit, or keepsake," says Francis Porter, the co-founder and COO of ANALOGr. "Capturing the essential stories reverberating from these objects through investigation, verification, and production is our north star. Beyond just authenticating, our approach creates more value for our consignors by focusing on the emotional gravity of these historic items associated with pop culture's iconic moments."
ANALOGr differs from the traditional memorabilia and auction spaces through its enhanced priority on managing the assets of its collectors with a long-term approach, as well as through the flexibility and collaboration it offers consignors over the sales process.

Recent Product-Related Developments by Key Targeting Pods Market Players
From primitiveness to sophistication, targeting pods have had a successful transition. For instance, modern targeting pods have electro-optical sighting capability during the day and infrared sighting during the night. In addition, optical targeting pods are evaluated to have standard features like elector optics, infrared radars, and electro-optics. As per Inkwood Research, the global targeting pods market is expected to register a CAGR of around 6% during the forecast period, 2023-2032.
This blog focuses on the recent product-related developments by key targeting pod manufacturers.
Northrop Grumman – LITENING Advanced Targeting Pod
Northrop Grumman is a global aerospace & defense technology company and a prominent military technology provider. The company operates in four sectors, innovation systems, technology services, mission systems, and aerospace systems. It is headquartered in Falls Church, Virginia, United States.
On September 7, 2022, Northrop Grumman announced its successful completion of testing the LITENING advanced targeting pod on the US Navy’s F/A-18 Super Hornet. It is used by aviators to undertake search & rescue, intelligence, surveillance, humanitarian relief, and targeting missions.
LITENING was selected in early 2022 to replace the legacy targeting pods on the F/A-18 fleet. The pilots executed operations and maneuvers representative of combat missions during the flight. This included target destination, air-to-air tracking, and target tracking. The eye-safe training laser mode was engaged, facilitating the use of the pod for realistic training with combat controllers on the ground. The pilots carried out these operations without advanced training, thereby showing the ease of use enabled by close collaboration with the aviation community.
At present, LITENING serves the Air National Guard, Air Force, and the Marine Corps in the US. The company has delivered over 900 LITENING pods.
According to James Conroy, vice president of navigation, targeting, and survivability, Northrop Grumman, “The pod’s digital video, autonomous target tracking, and laser sensors will give Naval aviators an entirely new set of capabilities for operations over land and sea today….” (Source)
Lockheed Martin Corporation – Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod (ATP)
Lockheed Martin Corporation is a leading player in the advanced technologies, aerospace & defense, and information security industries. The company has four operational business segments, space system, rotary & mission system, missiles & fire control, and aeronautics, with headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland, the United States.
On May 27, 2021, Lockheed Martin and the US Navy collaborated to complete the first flight test of the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet integrated with Sniper® Advanced Targeting Pod (ATP) for the Kuwait Air Force. It is expected to be fielded with the aircraft in late 2023. This integration is expected to enable the future and existing Super Hornet fleets with Sniper ATP’s precision targeting and surveillance capabilities, which are crucial to pilot survivability.
As per Kenen Nelson, director of Fixed Wing Sensor Programs at Lockheed Martin’s Missiles and Fire Control, “Integrating Sniper ATP onto Weapon Station 5, commonly known as the ‘cheek station,’ brings state-of-the-art tracking algorithms, two-way-data-link, and many other capabilities to the Kuwait F/A-18E/F crews that will positively impact the overall success of their missions.” (Source)
Accordingly, in March 2021, flight testing using an operational Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod (ATP) was successfully conducted at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake in California. Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod (ATP) currently flies on the Canadian CF-18 Hornets and the Kuwait F/A-18C/D. Its field-proven reliability, modular design, and exceptional depot partnership with Robins Air Force Base make it the lowest life cycle cost targeting pod in the market.

Thales Group provides services for the security, transport, defense, and aerospace industries. It designs, supports, and delivers systems in the aerospace sector and offers services like nose-to-tail connectivity, in-flight, training & simulation, and air traffic management. The company has its headquarters in La Defense, France.
Thales Group’s TALIOS 2-in-1 Pod enables recce and targeting capabilities into one pod. It has infrared, color, and HD B&W sensors. Its pilot-centric approach facilitates unhindered situation awareness through Permanent VisionTM.
On May 06, 2022, Thales announced receiving an order of additional 21 TALIOS pods in addition to the initial order for 46 TALIOS systems from the French defense procurement agency (DGA). With this, the French Navy and French Air and Space Force will have a total of TALIOS pods in service by 2025. These will equip Rafale aircraft currently in service with the French forces. TALIOS will allow Rafale F4 standard aircraft to perform ground/surface attack missions and air reconnaissance.
In addition, the pod facilitates an extensive search & target identification capability and switches to target acquisition and tracking mode. Furthermore, on February 8, 2023, Thales announced that it will exhibit the TALIOS 2-in-1 Pod, the best of its airborne optronics capability, at Aero India 2023.
As per Christophe Salomon, Executive Vice President, Land and Air Systems, Thales, “The TALIOS pod’s new reconnaissance modes and automatic target detection and recognition algorithms will provide the French armed forces with an unprecedented level of operational superiority. …” (Source)
These products encompass high-performance capabilities, reliability, and cutting-edge technologies. This is attributed to heavy investments in research & development to sustain the competitive rivalry in the global targeting pods market. Such aspects place these companies among the most prominent players in the market.

Hello my love, I’m back!! My apologies for missing yesterday, I hope you forgive me 😚. So unbuckle your seatbelts and let’s get into it.
What is your favorite song or riff to play on guitar?
What is your FAVORITE guitar that you wish you could own?
And lastly, do you want a hint at who I may be? 👀
Hohoho and off I go! 🎄
Ahhh!! I missed you! ❤️ and ofc I forgive you
My favorite song to play is either “Seed of Memory” by Terry Reid or “Howling” by Noah Kahan and my favorite riff to play is that little bit of “Broken Bells” right before Sammy takes us to church as they build into the solo together.
Oh god…
Obviously there’s a part of me that reeaalllly wants a 1961 Les Paul (beyond bc it’s what Jake plays, it’s such a unique and versatile instrument with very little action for smooth playing), but a 1959 Martin D-18E would be even cooler to own. It’s a silly acoustic guitar with a silly design that didn’t do well on the market for obvious reasons and were only sold for a year, but regardless, the design is super sexy and interesting and while I wouldn’t play it regularly, I think it would be a cool addition to my collection. Fun fact: Kurt Cobain owned one and played it during Nirvana’s “Unplugged” acoustic set and it sold for $6mil after his death.
I’m a nosy bitch.
Fuck yeah I want a hint!! I swear to god I’m in love with you already so 🤷♀️

The Body Count
chapter 4/6 now posted, mind the content warnings!
In which Hermione learns to play guitar to heal from trauma:
“We’re not celebrating your birthday,” Draco says, though he’s arrived at her flat with a massive gift-wrapped box.
They’ve been spending all of their time here. The small space makes her feel comfortable. And she knows Draco doesn’t care about its meagre size because there are a million other reasons to have left her, yet he’s adamantly here to stay.
“Oh, no?” She hides a grin.
“Not at all. I won’t even say happy birthday.” There’s a devilish smirk on his face. He leans the box against the wall to greet her with a gentle kiss on the cheek. He smells like his casual cologne, the newer one of citrus and sycamore woods.
“Then what is that?” She stares at it, her fingers itching to rip it open even if she insisted on no celebrations.
“I shop when I’m bored and went a little overboard.” He’s so full of it.
“Okay, Pansy.”
He chuckles. “Can’t I buy my girlfriend a gift on her birthday?”
She smiles at the term, liking it in his mouth, liking it even better because it’s her, his girlfriend. “I’ll let it slide,” she says generously, already pulling the wrapping paper apart.
Her breath catches in her throat.
“I went to a Muggle store to get it. It’s the exact one that Cobain fellow plays on the album you love. Martin D-18E.”
“Draco.” She cradles the acoustic guitar in her arms. It’s heavy and hollow and beautiful. “It’s perfect.”
His eyes are bright. “So you like it?”
After carefully putting the guitar down, she prowls towards him and curls her arms around his neck, surprising them both by kissing him on the mouth. It feels natural, like slipping into an old routine after a sick leave.
His smile is contagious. “And you’re not angry?”
“Does this seem angry to you?”
“Good, because I hired an instructor to teach you lessons once a week at my place. Hope you’re free every Thursday at six.”

IRST21 prepares U.S. Navy Super Hornets for 21st century security
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 08/15/2022 - 14:00 in Military
U.S. Navy leaders are calling for a rapid development of new combat technologies that are immune to electronic attacks and can stop advanced opponents, such as IRST21.
A U.S. Navy's work with Lockheed Martin to provide affordable aircraft sensors will prepare its F/A-18E/F Super Hornets for 21st century security.
“Lockheed Martin's IRST21 is an infrared long wave search and tracking sensor that passively detects aerial targets far beyond visual range. For naval aviators, it makes the entire F/A-18 platform more capable and lethal - and the missions more surviving," said Bob Rubino, a former Navy pilot and now Lockheed Martin's strategist for aviation sensors.
It is the type of advanced combat capability on the agenda for senior military and civilian leaders at the Navy League's Sea-Air-Space Exhibition. With its open architecture design, IRST21 threat data can be merged with information from other sensors and shared in the battlespace, supporting Joint All-Domain Operations (JADO).
While U.S. policymakers discuss investment in future aircraft, IRST21 will help keep the U.S. Navy's existing F/A-18 fleet relevant in fifth-generation combat.
The latest version of the IRST21 system for the U.S. Navy features updated optics and the best algorithms in the industry, significantly increasing the range of threat detection. The IRST21 Block II is already in production and conducting flight tests.
The IRST21 sensor system has proven itself through more than 300,000 flight hours on various platforms, with 505 systems delivered to the U.S. Navy and Air Force and other services on April 1, 2022.
For the Navy Super Hornet, the IRST21 is integrated in front of the central line fuel tank. For the U.S. Air Force, the IRST21 sensor operates on Lockheed Martin's Legion Pod.
U.S. Air Force leaders describe Legion Pod's infrared search and tracking capabilities as "a watershed" and "the next step to combat interference technology and allow our fighters to fight and track the enemy in contested environments".

Kurt Cobain MTV Unplugged Guitar
The guitar that grunge rock icon Kurt Cobain played during his legendary 1993 MTV Unplugged performance sold Saturday for a record $6 million, the auction house said.
The retro acoustic-electric 1959 Martin D-18E that Cobain strummed for Nirvana's career-defining performance in New York -- just five months before his suicide at age 27 -- sold after a bidding war to Peter Freedman, founder of RODE Microphones, Julien's Auctions said.
At $6.01 million after fees and commission, the instrument was the most expensive guitar ever sold at auction, among other records.
The starting estimate was $1 million.
Freedman said he plans to display the guitar in a worldwide tour, with proceeds going to benefit performing arts.
"When I heard that this iconic guitar was up for auction I immediately knew it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to secure it and use it as a vehicle to spotlight the struggles that those in the performing arts are facing and have always faced," the Australian was quoted as saying by Julien's Auctions.
The guitar was sold with its case, which Cobain had decorated with a flyer from punk rock band Poison Idea's 1990 album "Feel the Darkness."
Until now, the most expensive guitar in history was a Fender Stratocaster, dubbed "Black Strat," used by Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour.
It had been sold by the musician for nearly $4 million during a charity sale in June 2019.
Nirvana's acoustic performance during the taping for the popular MTV Unplugged series on November 18, 1993 became what is considered one of history's greatest live albums.
It included renditions of Nirvana's hits "About A Girl" and "Come As You Are" along with covers including David Bowie's "The Man Who Sold the World."
In October 2019 Cobain's cigarette-singed cardigan worn during the "Unplugged" performance sold for $334,000.
