One thing I’ve noticed is the initial awkwardness but watch Dean just go around Frank and right into Jerry’s arms and it seems it’s right where he wanted to be. Frank had to keep pulling his attention away from Jerry and had to practically pull him off stage, he just kept walking towards Jerry. He even blew him kisses. Dean loved his Jer that’s for sure. Actions speak louder than words

About the 1976 reunion. It would not have been such a major event if those two had said publicly that they had spoken to each other from 1956 to 1976. It is the (false) twenty years of silence (twenty no but maybe nine yes) that transform their reunion into an event.

Jerry whispered in his ear that he loves him and missed him. These two♥️

Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis reunite on the MDA telethon with the help of Frank Sinatra, Labor Day, September 6, 1976.
“Before the telethon reunion, Dean let us in on the private messages and jokes written with our lipstick that he had been leaving for Jerry Lewis via his dressing room mirror. Jerry played the MGM Grand and had left Dean some razzing but good humored remarks on the mirror prior to our engagement. Dean was like a little boy bragging about it to us, ‘Look at what I wrote to Jerry; look what ‘Crazy’ wrote to me. I answered him real good…’ He was so cute!”
-  “Maria Lauren Alberici-Riccio (Golddigger, 1973 – 1991)
“I asked Jerry, ‘Did you know Dean was coming on the show?’.
‘There were over 700 people working on that show, and I was the only one who didn’t know,’ he said.
‘But didn’t you see him off to the side of the stage?’ I questioned.
‘Yeah, I saw him. I didn’t give it a second thought because I saw him all the time. You know, the way people see Elvis flipping burgers. I saw him at the grocery store; I saw him in the car next to me sitting in traffic. You have to understand I loved this man. He was the smartest, most genuine and loving person I had ever met, the older brother I never had. I missed him dearly, but the time was never right for us to re-connect.’
When Dean walked on stage during the telethon, the two embraced like two old war buddies would have embraced. I saw Jerry whisper something into Dean’s ear. 'Without being too personal, can I ask you what you said to him,’ I reluctantly posed the question. He said, 'I just told him I loved him and missed him, and Dean patted my back in agreement.’
'Did you stay in touch after that night?” I asked. “All the accounts say that we never spoke again, but the real story is that we did chat now and then. He wasn’t much of a conversationalist anyway,” Jerry said more or less. “But when Dean Paul died, Dean really became reclusive. Ironically, we spoke more then.’ - Ron Onesti
“When I congratulated Dean on making up with Jerry he blushed and said, ‘Aw, Frank’s idea, he wouldn’t leave me alone about it.’ I asked him, ‘Are you going to stay in touch?’ He only shrugged his shoulders as if to say, ‘Who knows?’ “
-  Linda Alberici Eichberg (Golddigger, 1973 – 1989)

That 1976 reunion was so moving, for both of them, and as usual, Jerry showed his emotion while Dino kept cooly smiling :-)
It's really one of the team greatest moments!

In March 1976 JL guests on Tony Orlando’s show. Orlando recounts visiting JL after the show, tearful in his dressing room. He wasn’t funny, his timing was off - insecurity through a percodan filter.
Then Jer reveals the real emotional trigger: He felt “like I was working with Dean.”
He even calls him ‘bubbie’ in an ad-lib moment....Another man drawing him in with an arm around his shoulder.....

Francis Albert explains himself on the Tonight Show, 12th November 1976.
You can watch the whole thing here, the Dean and Jerry part begins at 7.49
I like the way he knows to clarify that Dean saying ‘I’ll be there’ and Dean showing up are two separate and not necessarily consecutive events.

Some wonderful person uploaded the entire reunion/performance clip and I just have to say........
..............
...................ummmm......*sniffs*
.....sorry, hold on on, i’m still regrouping after being emotionally accosted by what felt like the equivalent of a hug made of teddy bears, rainbows, and glittery jelly beans (why? i don’t know, my brain told me to add it) that came at me like a tsunami and I just stood there frozen in awe and elation as it washed over me and took me out
Just watch the video. It makes you have all the good feelings.

The reunion between Krusty and Bob at the telethon for Motion Sickness is a reference to a surprise reunion between former comedy partners Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin on a 1970s Muscular Dystrophy telethon.

Note
Is there any video or audio of when Jerry surprised Dean & Frank onstage during a performance in (I think) '77? Do you know if there were any more times when something like that happened? Any other post-'76 telethon reunion surprises or times they connected? The only other thing I know about is Jerry surprising Dean for his birthday (which is THE CUTEST THING I've rewatched that clip so many times).
The photos and audio of the '77 clip, is actually on my blog if you search The Aladdin hotel, but tumblr doesn't allow me to link tumblr links anymore on anon posts for some reason.
But on my video Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis: Dispelling the 20 years of Silence, I played the audio and showed the photos. That should automatically play at the right point in the video. If not it's 1:48:46
https://youtu.be/vy49Wqm_Cr4?t=6526
Dean and Jerry saw each other at Sammy's funeral but of course Jerry was so overcome with grief, that it wasn't a pleasant meeting.
I'm sure that Dean and Jerry probably met behind the scenes at this one show that Dean was introducing guests at, but they never appeared together. At the moment, it is 5am and I haven't slept, so I'm blanking on the name. It's on my blog, from a few months ago though.

Harry Shearer’s Film Comment article about attending the 1976 Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon
At midnight The Telethon makes news. Welcomed by the first standing ovation of the day, Dean Martin unsteadily walks out on stage and hugs his ex-partner, a man he reportedly hasn’t spoken to in twenty years. Sinatra fades into the background, saying of the reunion he has arranged, “I think it’s about time.”
The hugging continues as the floor managers milk up the applause. Jerry gets a big laugh with his first line: “So, how ya been?” Everyone’s wondering what he really thinks. There is an exchange of closeups, Dean and Jerry, on the big screen, and Lewis is sending out strangely enigmatic signals for a man who usually skywrites his emotions. After a few moments, Frank breaks the tension. He pulls a gun out of the piano.
Strange how being locked up for an hour with no explanation, and being pushed around a bit by large fellows with guns, and being in the presence of gentlemen who appear to have had experience fitting people with cement footwear can send a good firm “Oh, Jesus” down your spine when Frank Sinatra walks over to the hind end of a grand piano, picks up a shiny metal pistol, and walks back towards Dean and Jerry saying, “I gotta get you guys off one way or another.” The gun was never on camera. But the reporter sitting next to me sees it, and I see it, and we verify for each other that we’re neither stoned nor in the grip of Green Felt Jungle paranoia. It’s a joke. It’s a joke, but it’s a gun. Maybe it’s a toy. A toy gun. Ok, I’ll grant you that much. From ten rows back I can’t tell the old persuader from a good prop. All I know is it broke up the hug.

Not only does Frank “BREAK IT UP!, BREAK IT UP!”, but after the song, when Dean is WALKING OVER TO JER, he PULLS DEAN AWAY by the mic cord.
What if he hadn’t pulled them apart? or let Dean go to Jer?
Why Frank, why? 😣😖😫

Bonus: there’s the face of joy.
