Painting Task pt.3
Hendrik Gerritsz: Flora’s Mallewagen
Tumblr media
Allegory of the Tulip Mania. The goddess of flowers is riding along with three drinking and money weighing men and two women on a car. Weavers from Haarlem have thrown away their equipment and are following the car. The sea foreshadows the destiny of the car: it will disappear.
“He offers a trenchant, if dubious, account of the whole debacle in his 1841 book, Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds, which takes, as its title suggests, a pretty dim view of group dynamics. In his chapter on “the tulipomania,” Mackay presents a cautionary tale rife with tulip jobbers, tulip marts, tulip notaries, and tulip parties”
I chose this painting as my final piece of inspiration due to the fact that I have a consuming interest in “tulip mania” as if I had the fever for tulip gambling in another lifetime. I is not so much the style of this painting I chose to indulge in but rather the symbolism and ideas it brought forth.
Context of research: The demand was very high for the different species of tulips, paying for the chance at rarity and securing their worth (1636). new marts were opened solely for their sale, established on the Stock Exchange of Amsterdam, in Rotterdam, Harlaem, Leyden, Alkmar, Hoorn, and other towns
 The tulip-jobbers speculated in the rise and fall of the tulip stocks, and made large profits by buying when prices fell, and selling out when they rose. Many individuals grew suddenly rich. A golden bait hung temptingly out before the people, and one after the other, they rushed to the tulip-marts, like a moth to a flame ruled by the fire. People of all grades converted their property into cash, and invested it in flowers.
MACKAY: Today, economic historians are inclined to believe that Mackay’s report is something of an embroidery; given the constraints of seventeenth-century record keeping but what creative mind would choose to regard numbers over Popular Delusions. If only because the image of a thousand pounds of cheese being relinquished for a single bulb is too fantastic to be fiction.
The Viceroy root in layman terms:
 “Two lasts of wheat Four lasts of rye Four fat oxen Eight fat swine Twelve fat sheep Two hogsheads of wine Four tuns of beer Two tuns of butter One thousand lbs. of cheese A complete bed A suit of clothes A silver drinking-cup”
The fact that this male artist chose to represent tulip currency as not only a woman but a goddess was an indulging part of this work. The flock of people following the car headed for water have thrown away their stability to drown in their infatuation, not just with the beauty of what has been named luxurious but also our default as human beings: greed.
to be continued...

Vampires - Darcy Lewis/James Aubrey
Tumblr media
for @piccalilymusic 466 words Rated T First bite
~~~~~~~~~~
Aubrey had been tailing her for weeks, seemingly unnoticed. He hadn’t seen any distressing behavior.
Other than she seemed to only move at night. And sleep all day. Which had gotten his internal clock all fucked up.
That, and there were no decent late night diners in this town. The best thing open was McDonalds. And he wasn’t above a Big Mac, but if he kept eating there, he was going to have some kind of organ failure.
He squinted out the window, able to see pretty well in the dark, but they’d entered a wet K-Mart parking lot and the lights were shining off the puddles and making everything almost too bright to see.
A hand on his car door jarred him and when she pulled the door open and slid into the passenger seat, he almost shrieked. Almost.
“You’ve been following me. SSA James Aubrey.” She arched a perfectly sculpted eyebrow and suddenly he really wanted to impress her. Even though that wasn’t something he should be trying to do. This was a case. He was trying to solve murders.  Except she hadn’t committed any.
“How do you know?” he asked. “I could just be here sight-seeing.”
She rolled her eyes and leaned back in the seat, bringing one knee up into the seat with her. She was wearing blue jeans, but they looked like they’d been formed just for her. He’d never seen a pair of jeans worn so well.
“You’re not looking for me. You’re looking for another coven of vampires,” she said in a matter-of-fact tone.
“Vampires?“ he asked. “As in blood drinkers?”
“As in undead blood drinkers. To the layman,” she corrected with a shrug.
“And how do you know what I’m doing? That I’m investigating murders?” he asked.
She looked bored and sighed loudly. She opened her mouth, revealing a line of pearly white teeth. Her canines clicked down, suddenly razor sharp and longer than the rest of her teeth.
He jumped and she was suddenly very close to him. “Wanna start your free trial of vampire, so you can take the info back to Uncle Sam, G-Man?”
He gulped and looked between her fangs and her eyes, getting lost in the latter. Yeah, he’d noticed she was hot before, but now she was just...
Fucking gorgeous.
“Yes,” he said softly, looking her deeply in her eyes. “Yes.”
“Do you know what that means?” she asked, her fangs making her speech slur a bit.
“Bite me,” he said, turning his head, surprised at how fucking submissive he was being.
“You sure?” she asked.
He nodded and hissed when she did. Not that it hurt, because it didn’t. Not in the normal ways.
“Good?” she asked.
He hummed in response, and she chuckled, bringin her mouth back to his throat.
History
 Eldest child of the Castillo family, Alma was born in Valencia, Spain, to a rich banker’s family. From her youth she was always a brilliant mind, and took a keen interest in the culture that had begun changing around her. Alma was an obedient child who rarely disrespected her family, and up until her death in 1628 she was very much beloved by the community for being a sweetheart. The Almas that came after, however, each bore fundamental differences, mostly in appearance and how their lives played out until the 9th “reincarnation” of Alma came about: Elizabeth Alma Castillo (18th Century) was the first to come up with writing a diary, and the first to establish her personal love for protecting the people. All of the following lives have passed through and read her diary, believing it to be a great grandmother of some sorts.
Alma (21st Century) joined the police force when she was 29, graduating from the academy just a few months prior. Ever since she was little she was fascinated with the force, and very much often watched a lot of crime dramas. While a lot of her life was spent in the same town she was born in (Valencia,) her new work as an officer moved her to Malaga, where she picked up the hobby of singing thanks to one of her coworkers introducing her to a group of musicians that performed on the weekends late at night. Her growing interest in the arts eventually leads her to visiting the various museums that Malaga has to offer, and at the behest of one of her friends, to use her vacations to travel.
Personality
 Alma is a firm and determined person, very toned down in her emotions and reactions. At first many will assume her to be strict but the truth is she just keeps to herself for the most part. However she is not cold, rather she is lukewarm in how she talks to people- and a first conversation with her will always be more formality than anything. Alma is incredibly focused and tends to get caught up into her work and her thoughts fairly easily, often doing more than what she needs to. This extends into her emotions, as she’s prone to bottling things up and leaving them to resolve themselves instead of actually talking things out. While she’s not as expressive as most, she’s definitely able to catch onto jokes and respond- and often times once she starts laughing she has a hard time stopping.
Family
Maria Castillo (Mother) Nicholas Castillo (Father) Diego Callejo (Brother) Stefanie Callejo (Sister In-Law)
Trivia
Yes she likes James Bond, no she won’t tell you this.
Nicholas was in love with Shakespeare’s works when he was alive, thus giving Alma her middle name: Julieta
Alma is one of the many souls killed by the Spanish Inquisition
Alma is a wheeze-laugher
Alma keeps a diary where she writes a brief summary of every week of her life- starting from when she entered the training academy
The Start of Something New
Tumblr media
A photo taken by me at Sentosa!
Well, this is a start of a new blog. A start of a new initiative that I wanted to start long time ago.
This is the first post...
What this blog will focus is Technology. However, I’ll also post some interesting things I find such as food, places, investment, new ideas, interesting videos I find online, anything under the sun!
What this blog would want to give you is... Useful information all in a place. Or even just casual daily things I find interesting that I would like to share!
Although the focus might be technology, I want this blog to be humane and interesting, not mundane and boring. (Although it might get there)
Regarding the focus, I will write about quick information in summaries about certain product. It might be subjective or bias, but I’ll do my best to convince you! If you disagree, do let me know! So I can understand from your point of view too.
I want all of us to be learning something new every week. So I will do my best to post something (not forced) something useful.
Some information about me:
1. I want to share my thoughts and information to everyone, so they can access it quick
2. I will not reveal my name or identity... so this is also a temporary name until I find a suitable name! Apologies!
3. My goal for this blog is to share information regarding a certain subject. Information is wisdom. Information like... I like mala hotpot... Haha!
4. I want to improve my writing skills so that everyone who reads can understand easier... the best thing is that I can write it in a very layman term and anyone can understand easier!
5. I want to start a YouTube channel, but I’ll start here as a base first :)
6. I am from Singapore... so I will be posting mostly things that are happening in Singapore. Unless there’s something happening overseas, I’ll consolidate the information and post it here!
7. The pictures that I use might be from other website, I’ll credit them by giving a link to where I’ve taken from. However, I’ll do my best to use my very own pictures that I took!
8. Improve photography skills, so I can show you better of the technology I find interesting.
9. I am a software developer, I aspire to create a mobile application that will bring convenience and become part of you! Examples are, Grab, Qoo10, Lazada, Red Mart, etc! I am looking to tackle pain points and reduce them into all in one application! My focus software developing are still going towards Mobile Application and Website Development. Do let me know what kind of problems you are having, so I can make an open source project to tackle the problems!
10. I will and always want to be learning and with that, I will share with you what I’ve learn too.
Thank you for reading!
appearance of strange eyewear phenomenon
Prada and Dior are now being lumped in with the trashy and uninspired looks of our drunken celebrity elite. This is why you see Sara Jessica Parker running around New York looking like she escaped a Looney bin, and why Lady Gaga walks around with lace socks on her head.Lady Gaga makes fashion unfashionable. While movies like Sex in the City try to make fashion, well, fashionable, I think they are missing the mark on a massive scale and only serving to make fashion look ridiculous and elite.
On the China Glasses case Manufacturers contrary, with high fashion now available to the masses celebrities are forced to go more and more extreme in an attempt to stand out and keep their elite status. And eyewear fashion is getting a particular look of scrutiny from the general public because of the appearance of strange eyewear phenomenon like the shutter shades made famous by our rapping friends, and the oversized goggle-like eyeglasses worn by movie villains like those in Ironman.
Fashion should create beauty, enhance the physical form and be available to everyone. This is just a fact.. Fashion should be accessible to everyone, not just celebrities or socialites like Sara Jessica Parker and Lady Gaga. While she claims to be breaking down the stereotype of what the female body should represent and look like.
I think she is simply trying to stay in the limelight as long as possible (at the heavy cost of making fashion seem even more ridiculous than the layman already thinks it is!). Blind-aid sunglasses of Lady Gaga (in image) are simply not helping sunglasses popularity in America. With Target and Wal-Mart enlisting the help of designers to make ready-to-wear fashion that is high class and yet affordable, one would think a love for fashion was on the rise
Challenges faced by mobile app developers
The number of mobile users in the world is increasing by the day. This is also increasing the dependency of people on mobile phones. This has increased the demand for mobile applications massively. There’s a mobile app for everything and there’s going to be even more with digitalization taking a toll over the entire economy.
 Mobile app development like other technical procedures is no child’s play, that’s the reason why only skilled and experienced professionals can go for it after long years of education and training. However, well-versed the developer is there are going to be a few delays, glitches, and problems in the course of development and even post-development.
 Today we shall talk about the different challenges that mobile developers face during mobile app development!
 When talking about working with technology there is no surety of an app to function well at all times. But the risks and threats can be reduced a great deal if the issues are solved before deployment. Here are a few common difficulties that developers of today face at any point in time:
 Uniqueness
 This is one challenge that not only developers face, but the designers and marketing executives too! Only if the app will stand out from the others will there be traction and downloads. The uniqueness of the application is what keeps it loved.
 App nature
 This is one battle if won extends the number of users you can get. Having a cross-platform mobile application is a must today. Develop an app for Android and also IOS also so your app can be accessed and downloaded anytime from any of the OS marts. So it’s best if you hire any personnel who can work with cross-platform technologies.
 Interactivity
 Attracting customers is all that you need to top when you want to launch an application. Developing different sensors, effects, and transitions along with a great design will make room for interaction and a great image of the app and also the brand. Customer appeal will get you great downloads and even ratings. Work on it to the best!
 Client expectations
 The one thing that annoys every developer and is inevitable is matching the app development to the client’s expectations, you have to have enough foresight and also the readiness to make changes and modifications as and when the client demands. There might be a case that your preferences and choices might clash. Go for what the client wants.
 Performance development
 A good application is the one that gives power-packed performance using up the least battery. Creating a beta version of the app that you are going to deploy is highly advisable, so you can make tweaks and give the application the best it can get. The high performance gives the application a longer bug-free and intact lifeline.
 Comprehensive
 Development is a thorough and lengthy process. Ensure that while doing it, the result is understandable by the layman.  There’s no point in rendering an app that the audience can’t figure out or work with. If you look at it the most simple apps are the ones that are used the most. So go ahead and keep your mobile application as user-friendly as possible.
 Submitting the app to the app market
 This isn’t a direct challenge for the developer, but there might be cases that a particular app market that might not permit you to put up your app. In this case, there will be a delay in submitting the app to the App store. So keep in mind the different guidelines for each app market that you need to adhere to, be careful!
Tech selection
 Every single day there’s a new kind of technology and brand-new software entering the market. Now, this will be a problem, confusing you to make a choice about which tech stack to go for. To make an informed decision you must be very clear with what you want your app to be like, what should be the scope for updating, and other back-end functionality-related needs.
 Featuring
 This is another dilemma that almost every developer wants to clear the earliest. There might be constant demands coming from the superiors and also the clients to add a few features, remove or even change the way a particular feature or even all the features work.  For this the goals, interactions, and the purpose of the end-user towards the application should be clear.
 Security
 There has been an increase in cybercrime and malpractices in the technological world for quite a few years. It is a stressful situation for all developers to give the mobile application the best security. Malware issues must be sorted at the earliest or you can take up time and give your app different security plug-ins and extensions. It isn’t always the wisest decision to go for expensive security software. Check out what’s best and most used in the market.
 Winding-up
These are just a few common struggles that dev professionals face in day to day lives. When you go for working with technology it’s always a wise idea to have a ground-level check about what’s going on in the industry and whether there are alternatives that can lend a helping hand in resolving discrepancies quicker. So, stay updated and always on the lookout for smarter ways to get work done!
Shaved Ice and Gourmet Pasta: More of the Best Food in Central L.A.
One of the coolest dessert cafes when you're looking to beat the heat is Oakobing in the heart of Koreatown, with its unique style of Korean shaved ice shaped into the finest art sculptures and fruit-inspired creations. Ice flakes are shaved to order in everything from fresh mango and melon to chocolate, green tea and coffee, and combined with warm breads and traditional Korean toppings. The unsweetened, nondairy green tea bowl is made in-house with matcha and has a creamy texture. It's surrounded by sweet milk pudding, mini mochis and sweet red beans and served with a shot of matcha condensed milk. Also try the mango pineapple bowl. —Michele Stueven
Rossoblu's pappardelle with sausage ragu, broccoli and ricotta crema
Best Pasta: Rossoblu
Sfoglino Francesco Allegro from Bologna has been making all of the pasta dishes served at Rossoblu al mattarello (by hand) since its doors opened in the Fashion District in May 2017. [Ed. note: Those doors are temporarily closed due to a kitchen fire but Rossoblu expects to have a reopening date very soon.] In order to preserve the Northern Italian authenticity, chef Steve Samson and partner/wife Dina Samson felt it necessary to have a native Bolognese pasta maker as part of their team. For the definitive Bolognese experience, try Nonna's tagliatelle al ragu with beef, pork and not too much tomato sauce. Maltagliati with porcini and pioppini mushrooms and dandelion greens or the classic tortellini in brodo with pork, chicken, mortadella, prosciutto and parm also are musts. —Michele Stueven
Best Steakhouse: APL Restaurant
Finally, he's here! Grilling guru Adam Perry Lang has landed in Hollywood with both the elegantly rustic APL Restaurant, located inside the historic Taft Building, as well as his "APL Hole in the Wall" takeout window next door for BBQ sandwiches and hot dogs. Inspired by steakhouses from the early 1900s, Perry has installed a subterranean dry-aging room for his 100-day dry-aged rib-eye, tomahawk for two and porterhouse steaks. Top those with a choice of classic sauces such as BĂ©arnaise, horseradish cream or bone marrow jus. Potato options include mashed, whipped with Cantal cheese, or fried, and yes, of course, there's creamed spinach. —Michele Stueven
Poppy + Rose
Best Breakfast: Poppy + Rose
Located a rose petal's throw from the Original Los Angeles Flower Market, the casual, Southern-influenced Poppy + Rose is a perfect stop before or after shopping at the mart. It opens bright and early at 6 a.m. (the market closes between noon and 2 p.m., depending on day of the week) and provide rib-sticking breakfasts such as biscuits and gravy that come with two eggs any style, choice of sausage or mushroom gravy and a side of greens. There are sandwiches and scrambles, and a steak breakfast burrito made with house-smoked steak, eggs, cheese, brick hash, crùme fraiche, BBQ sauce and mixed greens. The signature chicken and waffles will keep you full and focused on your flower shopping. —Michele Stueven
Prank Bar's Lazy Daisy, left, and Silly Wabbit cocktails
Best Terpene Cocktails: Prank Bar
Not only does Prank Bar have the best and freshest selection of terpene cocktails, it's one of DTLA's friendliest bars. Located on a breezy corner in South Park, the two-story indoor/outdoor walk-up bar prides itself on organic produce and fresh-squeezed citrus juices that are tested for freshness throughout the day by the bartender. Depending on your desired spirit, I suggest either the Lazy Daisy (Tanqueray 10, grapefruit, lime, chamomile ghum, amaro angeleno, humulene hops and rosemary) or the Silly Wabbit (a frisky combination of fresh cantaloupe, reposado tequila, happy terpenes, fresh lemon and agave, topped off with a rolled orange peel tucked in a mint bush). The Geppetto with Bulleit rye, pineapple and pinene terpenes is good, too, as well as the la'ventura. For this one, the Pranksters mix apricot with DeLeón reposado, beet and carrot aplomado, fresh citrus and limonene terpenes. Prank uses non-cannabis, FDA-approved plant-derived terpenes in its cocktails. Call it lunch and a safe spot for a single gal to take in her terpenes solo. There's also a patio for pooches. —Michele Stueven
Biomimicry: Streamlining the Front End of Innovation for Environmentally Sustainable Products
Emily Barbara Kennedy and Thomas Andrew Marting
Biomimicry in layman’s terms is the adaption of qualities from the natural world into our modern day tools, transportation, and environments. An infamous example of this is found within the shape of the Shinkansen (Bullet Train), where its form was somewhat replicated at a larger scale. The aero-dynamic qualities found within this element of fauna is undeniably suited to excel to high-speed traversal through air. Below, I have located two photographs to draw the comparison between the physical structure between the two.
Tumblr media
(Kingfisher)
Tumblr media
(Shinkansen)
With this introduction to biomimicry, I decided to investigate an article written by Emily Barbara Kennedy and Thomas Andrew Marting. Within ‘Biomimicry: Streamlining the Front End of Innovation for Environmentally Sustainable Products’, the author’s define this phenomenon, “Biomimicry, defined as innovation through the emulation of biological forms, processes, patterns, and systems, is particularly valuable for its focus on solution discovery, as opposed to solution validation” (Kennedy and Marting 40).
An alluring concept that the authors prompt is that if these environmentally concentrated methods and considerations on both assembly, disassembly, and lifespan of these objects and spaces, are made during the beginning of the design and research process there is freedom and leniency, however, if an entity such as a building is already established then there is limited scope as to how much alteration can take place. (Kennedy and Marting 41).
“Natural selection favours high performance” (Kennedy and Marting 41). I chose this statement as one which makes a case for bio-mimicry. By looking at today's flora and fauna we identify the ingredients of the natural world and the abilities that cater to survival but also allow for life to excel. For life to have existed and survived for millions of years it must have possessed the necessary defense, offensive, and passive traits.
Aerodynamics, materiality, form, and function. All of these categories have the potential to be examined through an animalistic lens. Authors, Kennedy and Marting, state that, “One company has created environmentally friendly calcium carbonate powder inspired by coral’s carbon dioxide fixing process” (Kennedy and Marting 41), this produces a more sustainable technique to creating the building material of concrete. So biomimicry isn’t depicted solely through the final form of design but can actually form smaller segments that contribute to the final output.
As a spatial designer passionate about maximising use of eco-design systems when possible. Excess energy consumption seems to be a typical part of our everyday lives in the modern dwelling world. (fact about our energy consumption).
Biomimicry comes into play when acknowledging that, “Low-energy survival strategies are prevalent in the biological world” (Kennedy and Marting 42). The authors discuss the example of GOJO a company positioned within the hand-sanitizer and body products industry. It was identified that there automatic dispensers biggest detriment to itself and the planet was its excessive energy consumption and need for frequent battery replacement (Kennedy and Marting 42).
The Biomimicry Informed Solution:
“Like the heart, the double-acting bladder pump has separate elastomeric chambers walled off from each other by a central spine that incorporates fluid inlet and outlet valves. Coupled drive arms are used to actuate the pump. Energy recaptured from the recovery cycle of one chamber helps compress the other chamber. This bio-inspired technology provides an estimated 50 percent energy savings compared to analogous pumps currently used by GOJO, with potential for up to 80 percent energy savings when combined with optimized valves and product formulations.” (Kennedy and Marting 44)
Emily Barbara Kennedy and Thomas Andrew Marting helped shape some of my personal thought and ideas, whilst providing some revolutionary examples of biomimicry between three considerable groups product design, construction, and traversal systems. The scenarios resulted in improvements in efficiency, sustainability, and movement. As a spatial designer, not only do I find the functional improvements appealing but also the possibilities within aesthetics makes me eager to experiment. Take, for example, Shinkansen, the protruding front end extends and shrinks toward a relatively small area. Almost replicating the manner in which the kingfisher's beak angles from the top of the head downward.
I think the manner that I will address biomimicry in will begin with looking at the current construction methods of New Zealand’s mass developers and find ways of improving self sufficiency and use of eco design systems. A focus on the moment that this living will provide.
Howard de su universo de guerreros, ella proviene de Hyrkania, la llaman Sonja la roja no solo por su cabellera escarlata, es por toda la sangre que ha derramado su espada. . ¿De qué viene? A partir de esta entrega comienza este original crossover. . ¿Qué sucede? Red Sonja viene de ganar otra de sus batallas, cansada se dirige hacia el reino poderoso Bryssendyn, conocido por su prosperidad económica y poderío militar . . En el planeta Marte el emperador en cargo estå convencido que la paz es el camino a la prosperidad de su reino, sin embargo su consejero XI'Zeer no comparte esta política, por lo que convence al Emperador para visitar el planeta Tierra como una misión de exploración. XI'Zeer afirma que estå inhabitado para no revelar su plan de conquista. . . Red Sonja se encuentra con una avalancha de gente escapando de los Marcianos que ellos denominan como Ogros con poderes mågicos. . Sonja no les cree al principio hasta que se enfrenta a los Marcianos y demuestra ser la guerrera håbil que es y logra superar las armas de los Marcianos. . .
