This Rotten Work final playlist: Rachel/Daiyu!

As @evelynhug0 so kindly requested, I'm going to release each of the main character playlists (and one for the main ship, Rachel and Daiyu) once a week leading up to the release of the book!

With the book coming out next week, here is your final playlist, the big guns: the ship playlist for Rachel and Daiyu, our enemies-to-lovers lesbians draped in fire/lightning symbolism/magical powers, shared trauma, an absolutely brutal understanding of each other, and a shared love for drama. Both self-admittedly overdramatic with a love for Shakespeare, both know how to hit where it hurts and how to help each other cope- it'll just take a few duels, awful attempts at communication, and the world falling apart around them to get to that point.

Oh, and a few life-shattering secrets coming to light, but, well, y'all will have to read the book in order to hit that point, right?

Excerpt:

Daiyu and I are not that different, at the end of the day. We’ve had to do everything needed to conform to what Councilors and Headmasters and Administrators expected of us. We’ve had to kill, to maim, to torture. Neither of us really had a choice.

“Because you’re like me,” I murmur.

Daiyu's gaze snaps up to meet mine. She leans forward, her off-the-shoulder blouse falling slightly to expose more of her sculpted shoulder. “What was that?” she snaps, voice a smoky rasp that sends goosebumps up and down my arms.

“You’re like me,” I repeat, “You don’t like—"

And I’m cut off by Daiyu lurching a few inches forward and pressing her lips to mine.

I've kissed girls before, but not like this. Not girls who I've spent years hating—or, at least, rivaling. Not girls who I’ve cooked with and roasted and dueled in the hallways of the Academy and helped practice their theater lines. Not Lady Macbeths-in-training, not Headmaster’s daughters, not girls who take my breath away with their mere existence.

jokes aside, speaking purely as someone who enjoys movies/shows about music, i genuinely think choosing glam rock as the genre for lestat to be famous in, in 2024, is so stupid. like yeah sure he's a vamp he can mind control ppl to make himself popular whatever whatever. BUT it doesn't change the fact that the kind of modern white male artists with the star power he's meant to have are NOT rock artists. they're r&b or pop OR they're producers. it would have made more sense to make him an eccentric DJ/producer in the vein of david guetta or daft punk or marshmello, etc. you could have still done all his outfits really fun and would have the opportunity to use the series to have lestat collab with lots real artists to draw audiences like they did with grunge/rock artists for the queen of the damned movie in '02. like. i get it doesn't matter because he's a vampire and that's why he'll be famous within the story anyway, but it drives me nuts how obvious it is rollin jones doesn't have a single finger on the pulse here.

Last book: In the Lives of Puppets by TJ Klune. It's a really fun retelling of Pinocchio in a post apocalypse setting. Main character is ace and I cried every time that was mentioned because I do every time I find an ace character

Last movie: Red One. Loved it, it was a rom com with Dwayne the rock Johnson and Chris Evans and no one can change my mind. I would love a sequel solely focused on the other holidays cuz that was such a cool concept.

Last TV show: star wars Skeleton crew! I am in love with this show, it's star wars and pirates, so it hooked me pretty easy lol

Sweet/Savory/Spicy- it depends. Usually more of a sweets person but I do love savory. My spicy is not really spicy sooooooo......

Current obsession: I mean , with critical role I've been a critter for so long now it's more like a friend i catch up with every week. I had a root canal yesterday (zero stars, do not recommend) and driving on the way home I listened to and episode of mighty nein cuz it just feels so comfy.

Hazbin hotel and helluva boss is kinda my obsession, in the sense that I'm like, gnawing at the drywall waiting for new content to consume, especially for hazbin

I really like “Everybody Seems to Love You” (by Addison Grace) for Jesskas and “The Other Side” (from the Greatest Showman) for Magnugaard.

Definitely "I love you like an alcoholic" by The Taxpayers. They have this vibe of couple from 60's, who dance listening to gramophone and being very, very sweet. Though the tragic of the story is that Ellegaard will be the one to die from the WitherStorm.

"House of memories" by P!ATD. From Ivor's point of view. Nothing more to say.

Magnabriel (Magnus X Gabriel)

"Heather" by Conan Gray. Here Magnus is in love with Ellegaard, so Gabriel wishes to be her.

Jetra (Jesse X Petra)

"Knees" by Bebe Rexha. Probably from Petra's point of view, where she can't stand being in a relationship, where she's forced to stay at one place, instead of having the freedom she wants.

Gavror (Gabriel X Ivor)

"Let me down slowly" by Alec Benjamin. From Gabriel's point of few, basically him begging Ivor not to ruin his life in a matter of second, firstly when Ivor decides to leave him, secondly when he creates WitherStorm.

Aidkas (Aiden X Lukas)

I've talked about them with Captian, but basically it's "I Bet My Life" be Imagine Dragons, where Aiden redeems himself and comes back to Lukas. The song itself shows his way to redemption and how he obviously regrets what he has done to Lukas.

Sorabriel (Soren X Gabriel)

"Hurts like hell" by Fleurie. Aftermath of Soren's run away from WitherStorm, Gabriel is now left all alone to deal with his feelings, unable even to talk to someone about it, since "Hoee can you love a lair?" And it raises a while new storm in him.

VioletCrystals (Romeo X Gabriel)

"Nightmare" by Poylow. The manipulative version of the ship, where it's going from Romeo's point of view, he's very proud of himself trapping The Warrior so easily, using his kind nature and bad taste in men against him.

OceanLove (Fred X Gabriel)

"Someone you loved" by Lewis Capaldi. Do I need to say it? Fred is dead, so Gabriel is sad.

Reggilo (Reginald X Milo)

"Bad dream" by Sarah De Warren. I think it suits pretty well, especially from Reginald point of view, where he can't fully let go of his "guard" self, but at the same time he's trying so hard to do it just to let Milo in. To let him and himself be happy.

Aidill (Aiden X Gill)

"IDFC" by Blackbear. Toxic version, where Aiden kind of a.. cheater, yeah. And since Gill always acts like "the silly one", I see him pretending to not know about this for the sakes of their relationship, because who he is without Aiden?

Sorengaard (Soren X Ellegaard)

"Fairytale" by Александр Рыбак. It's actually really sweet from Soren's point of view, nothing more. Speaking about how they fell apart, but promising to find her anyway.

DeepGlass (Gabriel X Vos)

Couldn't miss the opportunity to add "Faded" by Alan Walker here. Since it's kind about how the other is lost, and it mentions the water a lot, so.. connect the dots.

Ottrian (Otto X Hadrian)

"All I want is you now" by Rebzyyx in a very twisted way from Hadrian's point of view.

Olivetra (Olivia X Petra)

"She likes a boy" by Nxdia. Here's Petra is in love with Jason, so Olivia is left alone to deal with her feelings. Maybe it's something wrong with her?

The 7D as songs (My way)

Happy’s would be Miles On It by Marshmello and Kane Brown because I think since the song pretty much focuses on good times. Happy is definitely one of those people

Sneezy’s would be Seasons by 30 Seconds to Mars because sometimes it unfolds for him and he likes the outdoors so I figured why not. Also that song is pretty much an allegory to him in my opinion.

Dopey’s would be Unpredictable by Skye Sweetnam because of obvious reasons

Bashful’s would be Heart Attack by Demi Lovato, also for obvious reasons

Doc’s would be Shooting Star by XG mostly because I felt the theme fits him (plus it was pretty hard to come up with a song for him)

Sleepy’s would be The Lazy Song by Bruno Mars again for obvious reasons

Grumpy’s would be Project by Chase McDaniel because the song basically says that he’s a work in progress and that he has huge flaws people should stay away from. I think the song fits Grumpy the best

Edit: Yeah I had to change Doc’s song. Meet me Halfway sounded more Bashful, though I already had a song in mind for him
