You may notice I frequently comment on the assumptions people make about animal facilities based on their branding. Frequently, people assume accredited facilities are inherently better for animals than unaccredited facilities, or assume sanctuaries are inherently more moral / better at caring for their animals than zoos.

I want to show you an example of why I am always, always skeptical of these assumptions.

If you’re in the California area, you might have heard about Hank the Tank - who is actually a Henrietta, btw - the 500 pound nuisance bear from Lake Tahoe who broke into 21 homes in search of food. She was recently captured by wildlife officials and moved to a sanctuary in Colorado. The Wild Animal Sanctuary has three main facilities, two in Colorado and one in TX. To give you some context, it’s the biggest carnivore sanctuary in the country - they advertise somewhere between 300-500 animals, mostly large carnivores, between their properties. It’s where most of the Tiger King cats went. It’s PETA’s preferred placement for confiscated exotic animals. So, obviously, it’s got to be great, right? Except… take a look at what they posted about Henrietta’s arrival.

Here’s their post about Henrietta’s arrival at the Refuge, the large facility in Colorado that isn’t open to the public. Let’s take a closer look at that food trough…

What do we see here? An entire rotisserie chicken that is either blackened or highly seasoned, and a whole ham. Maybe a second chicken underneath the pile, I can’t quite tell. The sanctuary gets the majority of their bear food donated from groceries stores once it’s past the sell-by date, so we know those are older meats and they’re full of a ton of salt. Then, for fruit and veg, there’s a cantaloupe, mango, corn, avocado, grapes, and apples. Maybe a pepper or two, it’s hard to tell. That’s a lot of sugar and not a lot of fiber or roughage.

But… on top of it and to the right… are those Twizzlers?

Yes.

The sanctuary confirmed on Facebook that they fed this recently rescued obese bear what looks like almost an entire pack of Twizzlers.

I don’t know of any world in which it’s appropriate to feed candy to a bear. Maybe a piece or two as a really high value reinforcer for hard behaviors (that isn’t relevant here, it’s openly against this sanctuary’s ethos to do any husbandry or medical training). An entire pack of Twizzlers is just appalling. But it’s not uncommon for this facility! I have a book written about their operations and animal care (that I bought at their gift shop this spring) which openly discusses how the bears get fed bread, doughnuts, marshmallows, and all sorts of incredibly unhealthy food that comes in with the grocery donations.

But hey, this is apparently fine for the bears, according to the sanctuary’s founder. He was quoted in that same book as saying “Bears are the only animal I know of that can eat insane amounts of sugar and it never hurts them. It does not hurt their organs. They do not get clogged arteries. They do not have high blood pressure. In the wild they eat all these sweet berries in the fall, and they convert sugar to fat… so the more sugar they get the better… we would all love to have a system like that!”

Now while it’s true that bears have physiological adaptations that modulate their insulin production and sensitivity in ways that appear to prevent them from from developing diabetes, that does’t mean it’s healthy for them to regularly eat processed carbohydrates, sugar, and general junk food. And remember - Henrietta gained her fame because of how incredibly overweight she already is, and because she was seeking out human food, According to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, a healthy weight for a normal adult black bear is between 100-300 pounds. So, obviously, the best thing to do is… continue to feed her candy.

Then, later on in the book, it details how they have to bribe a camel to sit tight for a regular medical examination (since they don’t train for medical behaviors) by letting him drink a can of Mountain Dew each time.

If a zoo was known publicly to be feeding their animals Mountain Dew or a couple Twizzlers - even just once, on a rare occasion - they’d be eviscerated in the media and by public opinion. But feeding out inappropriate junk food appears to be a pretty common practice at this place, and it just goes unscrutinized because everyone assumes sanctuaries are inherently better for animals.

So, long story short, never make assumptions about the quality of a facility based on it’s branding or accreditation. (TWAS is accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries). If you have concerns about the ethics or practices of a facility, always try to put your preconceptions aside, go and see for yourself, and think critically about what you see and what you’re told.

Ministry Perfume Associations

I’m back yet again with more thoughts about Ghost and perfume! This time it’s fragrances from my own collection that remind me of various places in my headcanon of the Ministry. (Usually these lists are mostly made up of perfumes that I don’t actually have, but this time I can vouch for all of these! I didn’t include any that I thought weren’t good.)

For the sake of organization these are divided into places in the New Wing (the most recent addition to the Ministry), the Old Wing (the original Ministry buildings), and the grounds (gardens, forests, etc). And as always, if you have your own thoughts or want me to do more of this, please let me know! I would love to talk more about Ghost and perfume.

New Wing:

Library: old books, wood, dust, paper, ink

The library is part of the New Wing of the Ministry, although it’s not very new anymore. Built in the early 1900s, the New Wing is all soaring ceilings, stained glass windows, and intricate woodworking, done in the Art Nouveau style of the time. The library’s floor-to-ceiling shelves are full of books ranging from ancient esoteric tomes to modern fiction paperbacks, interspersed with desks and secluded reading nooks. The library also houses the Ministry’s private collection of artifacts - some occasionally used for ritual purposes, some purely academic in nature. The library is always very still, with the occasional susurrus of turning pages and quiet voices. It smells like polished wood, faint dust, and the leather and paper of old books.

Personal Quarters: carved wood furniture, tea and coffee, soft bedding, books and clutter, spices, vanilla

The personal quarters are also in the New Wing, separated into human quarters and ghoul quarters (for everyone’s comfort and safety). The personal quarters tend to feel very cozy and lived-in, as they are the rooms most frequently used. The furniture is comfortable, often occupied by off-duty siblings or ghouls, and the arch windows overlooking the gardens and forest cast soft beams of light onto the wood floors in the afternoon. The siblings’ quarters tend to smell like the possessions of those who occupy them - books, scented candles, tea and coffee, and faint spices from the small kitchen. The ghouls’ quarters are similar, but with the scents of various elements - smoke, greenery, damp stone, fresh air, resin.

Old Wing:

Chapel: resinous incense, polished wood, wine, smoke

The chapel is part of the Old Wing. The exact dates of its construction could probably be found somewhere in the Ministry’s records, but the gothic architecture suggests it’s been there for at least 500 years. The cold grandeur of the exterior’s intricate stonework and vibrant stained glass windows is matched in the chapel. It is perpetually cold, made fully of elaborately carved stone, and colorful sunlight filters through the enormous stained glass windows onto the altar and the pews. The heavy, still air smells like residual incense smoke, snuffled candles, fragrant wood, and ritual wine.

Crypt: cold damp stone, smoke, dust, ashes

The crypt is the only place in the Ministry that truly reflects its age. It feels like it has been standing, underground, inhabited only by the dead, for hundreds of years. It’s well-maintained, but perpetually freezing cold and slightly damp. The stone walls are minimally decorated, and the candles in their niches do very little to illuminate the cavernous space. The air is weighty, and all sound is muffled. The crypt smells like damp stone, cold air, sweet dust, and smoke.

Gargoyle - Nui Cobalt

Summoning/Ritual Chambers: cold stone, ritual incense, blood, wine, smoke

The ritual chambers are where summonings and rituals are performed. They are where every new ghoul comes into the world, and, more rarely, where they’re banished from it. The walls and floor are stone, and there are no windows. When in use, the chambers are lit by dozens of flickering candles, some in sconces, some piled onto tables, and years of melted wax have created puddles and formations on the walls and floor. The air is dense, thick with dust, herb smoke, ritual incense, and the scent of dried blood.

The Ministry sits on a huge expanse of land. Most of it is still wild and forested, but there is a good amount of it dedicated to gardens, both decorative and functional. 

Decorative Gardens:

The decorative gardens are lush and heavy with flowers and fresh greenery most of the year, tended to by the Earth ghouls. Some of them are small cloistered gardens, decorated with statues and fountains, and some are larger, intended for gatherings or wandering alone. The decorative gardens tend to smell like fragrant herbs and flowers - sweet jasmine and magnolia, heavy white lilies and heirloom roses.

Functional Gardens:

The functional gardens supply the flowers for decoration within the Ministry as well as the herbs and most of the produce for the kitchens. The gardens, orchards, and greenhouses are managed by the Earth ghouls, and yield so much produce that, despite the relatively small size of the gardens and the relatively large size of the Ministry, they still end up with extra. That surplus is sold at the local farmers’ market to unsuspecting humans who wonder in open amazement about the size and quality of this mysterious farm’s produce.

The Ministry’s lake is very deep, cold, and still. It’s objectively beautiful, with its glassy blue-gray waters and lush vegetation, but something about it feels dangerous. The pebbled shores are visited only by the bravest siblings, and even then only on the hottest and most desperate of summer days. The water ghouls, on the other hand, love it (which is possibly why the siblings tend to stay away). It is located at the border between the new and old forests, and its mossy banks are surrounded by evergreens, ferns, and rushes. It smells green and a little salty.

The Forest: trees, dirt, damp air, greenery, wildflowers, fungi

New Forest:

The new forest is a nickname given to the shallow edges of the forest that are closest to the Ministry. The trees are widely spaced, and the ground is thickly carpeted with grasses and wildflowers. Sunlight filters easily through the sparse leaf canopy and illuminates the fallen logs and patches of moss that make popular spots for siblings and ghouls looking to unwind. The air is light, and the breeze carries with it the scent of fresh greenery, tree sap, and sweet flowers.

Old Forest:

If you go far enough into the new forest, you will eventually get to the old forest. The trees are bigger and closer together, the sunlight struggles to reach the ground, and there are more mushrooms than flowers. The air is damp and cool and smells like fungus, loam, and rotting leaves. The old forest is avoided by siblings both because of the unsettling watched feeling any human who enters feels and the unspoken knowledge that if you don’t come back out no one will go looking for you.

I want the AWAU to get a nurse cat. A fat, lazy, spoiled marshmallow of a cat who hangs out in Triss's sick room and sleeps on the beds all day. Everyone who comes in - the witchers most ESPECIALLY included - are subjected to loud, rumbly purrs and forceful headbutts until they give in and cuddle Nurse Cat.

Who then crawls on their chest or lap and falls asleep. And if anyone tries to move, or make Nurse Cat move, he wakes up and makes very POINTY biscuits on their privates (sometimes while yowling) until they lie back down.

Even Ivar is not immune to this.

Slowly, word spreads throughout the keep: if you go visit Triss, you get to pet a cat! He's soft and warm and friendly! His purrs are very comforting!

...you just need to stay there for several hours. OR ELSE.

(Triss shamelessly bribes Nurse Cat every time he tricks one of her patients into RESTING long enough to heal. It's a big part of why he's so cuddly and fat.)

Part 2

Yakuza boss!Sukuna x chubby!Reader

You waved goodbye to sukuna and went back into the Cafe. 'Weird how there were no customers today, I guess because it's a Sunday but I swear I've heard the name sukuna before I just don't know where...' you finish up cleaning the kitchen and the Cafe.

You grab the envelope and sit down with a cat. "Let's hope this isn't a threat" you talk to the cat on your lap only to hear a 'meow' as a response. You open the envelope and take a piece of paper with four words "I'll be coming back" you chuckle.'Why couldn't he just tell me this himself?' You put the letter down and head back to your home.

Next morning

You get to your Cafe a little bit late seeing a tall man "you're late y/n" you look upto see sukuna "well morning to you as well sukuna" you open the Cafe and let the tall man in first "morning" he grumbles out while walking pass you "would you like a black coffee?" You say while getting the Cafe ready for the day. "Yeah" "okay I'll get it your drink started"

you go back to the kitchen and make his drink and sit with him on the fluffy rug "can I pet that cat?" He points to the chubby cat that's sleeping "haha sure I'll go grab her for you" you walk over to her and pick her up like a baby "morning marshmallow" you pet the cat hearing it purr and gently handing it to sukuna "she's still waking up so she's gonna be really lazy" you see sukuna lay the cat on the floor and just rub her stomach "I love fat cats...they are so much cuter when they're big...so much softer, I can't help but want to keep them forever" you smile softly "do you own any cats?" He looks upto you and shakes his head "I'll accidently make the cat too fat for its own good and spoil it too much, that's why I come here"

You spend the whole morning talking to sukuna and then he got up to leave he gave you some money "keep the tip" He gave you a soft smile and left. Waving bye to sukuna and going back into the Cafe grabbing marshmallow "being fat...makes you cute, wonder if he thinks I'm cute as well" you blush and hug the cat.

You get up from the rug and see a small piece of paper on the table looking at it you see his number 'I thought I gave him my number what the...' then you read "I tried to call but you didn't put your whole number on my hand" 'ohhh whoops didn't mean to' you message the number "sorry I was really nervous" then customers started to come in, it's always old people who come in here.

The day went by smoothly and as the day was about to finish you hear your phone vibrate "meet me at the ***** club tmr at 9pm, if u want" you smile "okay! Should I dress up?" "If you want to, I'd love to see you in a dress" you blush and accidentally slam the phone down on the bench "woah..."

Next day

You wake up to your alarm and then go back to sleep for another 2 hours. When you finally wake up the day goes by normally and you start to get ready to meet with sukuna at 7. You're deciding on which dress to wear. He ask you to follow him and he takes you to the v.i.p section "y/n come take a seat" you heard sukunas voice more clearer and a bit louder and more confident too "Hey sukuna!" You went over to sit next to him "y/n, do you have any idea who I am?" You nod your head "Yeah, your sukuna" He shakes his head and leans in closer while pulling you closer to him by your waist "my name is ryomen sukuna, the yakuza boss who runs this part of town"

You look upto him clueless "Good job? I'm not sure how to react, sorry" He smiles softly and orders drinks for the both of you "are you a light weight drinker?" You nod your head "Yeah I am actually I can get really drunk pretty easily" He hands you a drink "if you get drunk ill take care of you until you're sober again, I promise" you out your pinky up "pinky promise, and if you break this promise you can't come into my cafe anymore" He chuckles "well now I really have to"

The night goes by with you getting drunker by the second "Kuna..." you lay your head on him and hug his arm "your...really, what's it called? Hot! That's the word" you giggle. Then you black out from all the alcohol you drank.

Backstory("In his childhood, Ray Stantz went to Camp Waconda. Sitting at the campfire and roasting Stay Puft Marshmallows became one of his fondest memory. In his adulthood, Dr. Ray Stantz worked in the private sector at one point but he was not adept at producing the results they wanted. By 1984, Ray's parents passed away and he inherited the home he was born in. 

Ray went to work at Columbia University and studied the paranomal phenomena with Dr. Peter Venkman and Dr. Egon Spengler. Egon and Ray were usually the first to interview case subjects, even people Peter called "schizos" no matter how far-fetched their stories were. Ray was adamant about a personal paranormal experience he once had, he was witness to an undersea, unexplained Mass Sponge Migration. 

Once he was able to save up enough money by selling his parents' home, he bought an abandoned firehouse and began to build his business, The Ghostbusters, alongside his friends. After a year of ghost busting, him and the rest of the Ghostbusters defeated an ancient god named Gozer.")}]

1. What is your character’s favourite food and why?

I'll split this into three categories:

Favorite real food: Fish- specifically sashimi. Boy's a gigantic cat. He loves the hell out of big cuts of raw fish, the taste, the freshness, the texture, everything. It also has the benefit of being extremely high protein and full of healthy fats. The only drawback is the price.

Favorite upscale snack: Chocolate covered banana with marshmallow. Sweet, chewy, with his favorite fruit, and more filling than most other sweets. It's not everything he could ever want in a dessert, but it's got a lot of great stuff.

Favorite low end candy: Anything chewy and sour. Sour gummy worms, whatever the space equivalent of Nerds Rope would be, etc. Belost loves something with a bit of chew to it so it lasts longer and sour is probably his favorite form of low end candy. It's something that is easy to get right, can be gotten just about anywhere in the universe, and has the bit of suspense on wondering just how sour it'll be which adds a bit of fun!

5. Tell us about something that your character finds sweet.

Caring about other people. I know it sounds kind of obvious but it's far more rare in Galra culture than you'd think- especially in the military. When everybody is supposed to be strong individually the weak are often ostracized and left with a miserable life for however long their contract lasts for. So when Belost sees somebody who actually cares about other people it's kind of a nice break. Plus it reminds him of some of the people he holds in high regard in his life.

Current go-to ~fancy drink~

i call it "jet fuel". fill an 18oz solo cup with ice, fill half with cold brew and half with 94 proof kraken rum. top with some sweet creamer. it's tasty and refreshing like an iced coffee and gets me drunk out of my fucking gourd. PLEASE NOTE: i am 41 and have been drinking like it's my job since i was sixteen. DO NOT make one of these for yourself without STRONGLY adjusting the rum content (maybe make up the rest of the space with milk or cream?), this WILL put your ass in the hospital with alcohol poisoning if you're not a career alcoholic. also don't try it if you've got heart problems.

Oooooogghhhhhh me when. That which I put forth comes back to meee yahoo heehe (the fact that this is the second ask about this topic haha). I am bonked on the head by the ball. Kiitos :)

I think Mewmew would likely be marshmallows due to the immaculate softness and sugary sweetness. Just the whole vibe. I personally can't stomach marshmallows bc they're wayyy to sweet for me hahah... Mew could also easily be like a smores! Crunchy (the tech parts) with soft and melty stuff (bio parts and fuel). Doesn't that just sound yummy :) lol

The marshmallow (or s'more) would also be fitting bc of how.. Heavy? It is. Like. So much fat and you can't eat too many before you have to stop. At least that's it for me so. That adds to the Mewmew vibe (bc m is nothing if not Heavy Class and tanky!)

Though, I could also make the argument for Mewmew being like, fruit gummies? I have this specific zoo animal gummy type in mind

Evilicus... Hmmm... I really wanted to say some Halloween candy here bc of the vibes.. Ev is so edgy. But I feel like something else would represent them better..

Let's say. Cake. Let me paint the picture for you. It's at least two tiered. It's got sharp and detailed frosting. It's got hard meringue spikes. It's got decorations and maybe a surface sculpted of almond paste. It's got plums and other dried fruits in the batter. Chocolate sauce. Raspberry sauce - red as blood. The raspberry sauce has the faintest hint of chili. The whole thing is in purple and black. Tadah! Evilicus.

.. Or, after being defeated it's a little fruitcake with chocolate ganache and berry sauce thrown on top. Still relatively fancy but definitely comprised of less.

As for what those two would like, it's gonna be very different from what treats they would be!

Mewmew -..... Cat treats. But if you asked about human candies the answer is probably cookies or candied fruit. More likely cookies but Mewmew likes fruits and veggies in general.

Evilicus - Hard to say, they don't eat much.. 🤔 I think rock candy would be fun for them though! Just like those nefarious power crystals they used to acquire in their glory days. I could also say lollipops and then like, banana bread and tiger cake, and other less sweet but still desert baked goods.

When I was 14, my parents bought me Linkin Park’s Minutes To Midnight CD at Walmart, as a reward for doing well on a math test.

Seventeen years and six addresses later, I still have it. 😅
