14. Recommend something hurt/comfort!

(mdzs) for this one, i'll recommend marsdiogenes' beautiful wangsang paperbark. it's a really lovely fic about grief and connection and restoring bonsais (and, in a sense, legacies) that are nearly dead, written by a chinese diaspora fan.

23. Recommend a fic with amazing dialogue!

(tlt) definitely have to shout out moscca's latest, where thou goest, because it has this absolutely magical blend of like, victorian-era dialogue and absolutely delightful silas and colum characterization. they absolutely would say that, i know it! it almost feels like cheating to recommend such a recent fic, but it's really just that good.

30. Recommend an AU fic!

(mdzs) i'll give you i light up when you call my name by iristigerlily which was written for me for last july's folger's flash! it's an incredibly lovely niecest omegaverse fic that hits a lot of my favorite sub-tropes, like omegas being prized and cherished and pampered. the characterization is brilliant and it's both scorching and heart-meltingly tender, so please give it a try!

Well, that was a fun activity lol. Most of my fics seem to start with either a setting + mood, or a character doing something. The thing is though, in "wildflowers in autumn" Xichen isn't even there for most of it, which I find absolutely hilarious because Xichen both starts and ends the fic in a borderline hero's journey that you only hear about through his absence in the fic :D

Just goes to show there isn't any one way to start a fic I guess! Super grateful to have the chance to show off some of my more recent babies, which I think deserve more love 🥺 surprise of surprises, I don't singularly write for wangxian even though it feels like it sometimes :D

Hey! I saw that ask about other ship requests and it made me wonder, what are the mods' favorite pairings other than WangXian and what are your favorite fics for those pairings?

Hello~~ Other than WangXian, I would have to say my favorites are WangXianSang, XiCheng, XiSang, ChengSang, ZhuiLing, XueXiao, MianQing and QingLi. I'm sure I am forgetting one or two but those are off the top of my head.

Though I will admit the only ones I would actually go out of my way to read as a main pairing would be WangXianSang, ZhuiLing, XueXiao, and on occasion, XiCheng. But I still adore the others as side pairings ^^

As for my favorite fics for those pairings? I'm not sure, I'll have to check my bookmarks/memory lol 😅

A few fics I remember I enjoyed reading -

I honestly do not seek out many fics with different pairing, mostly stumble upon them if they're side pairing 😂

I have a certain fondness for WangXianNing if I come across it. I have read a few LXC/NHS and LXC/NMJ that I have liked, and WQ/MianMian or WQ/JYL have been good. I also like JYL/NHS though that's a rarer one.

I couldn’t find the WangXianNing fic that I remember liking but for other pairings:

4 Current wips I’m excited about:

fake dating to real marriage pipeline (modern au, lxc gets dumped by jgy, nhs offers to fake date as revenge, it gets out of hand)

trans nhs arranged marriage (lxc and nhs are engaged, lxc is very happy about it, nhs is terrified the lan sect will force him to detransition)

that’s it. I have other wips, but I’m not slightly excited about them orz like at most I’d like to finish the second persuasion au but whether that happens or not is gonna be a mystery. Honestly, even the two wips mentionned here will probably never be posted, even though they’re both several K longs already

3 biggest improvements

I don’t... think I’ve improved? At all? If anything, my writing in 2022 felt less good than what I wrote in 2021.

I feel like the tragedy of this ship is that dogs don't like Wen Ning because he's cold and dead, and Jiang Cheng definitely is conflicted about whether it's ok to like a guy that dogs do not.

Ah this is hard but I will try

1. Avatar the last Airbender.

I remember when nickelodeon would air the complete series on a weekend every now and again and that was how I originally watched it. Then it was on Netflix and I rewatched it again. And again and again. This is THE show to me.

2. Monk - in which a germophobe is a detective

This show aired the same year I was born so I'm kinda going to be biased. Rewatching some of the episodes in 2023 I didn't expect to find out that my brand of humor apparently originates from an early 2000s show but it certainly appears so!

3. Shadow Hunters

Did I drop this show after catching up with the books and being so frustrated at how they adapted things? Yes. Do I even care about the books anymore? Not really. BUT this show (or rather Malec) is what originally got me into shipping so I think I still need to mention it.

4. Stranger - A kdrama about a man without emotions suffering with chronic pain having to solve a murder and making friends along the way

Living my life I never saw a character that made me go "oh I feel represented by them! I can relate to them!" That was until the Male Lead of Stranger came along. Instead of the show being about his disability it's about a murder that needs to be solved. It's about him solving this murder and navigating through it with his disability. It's about friendship. This show probably has one of my favorite female leads. And even if I'm not much into crime dramas anymore this show is so so dear to me.

5. The disastrous life of Saiki K - in which the anime protagonist has all the powers in the world that he doesn't want. He just wants a peaceful afternoon is that so much to ask!

Not much to say about this show except this is also one that nailed my brand of humor.

6. Tom and Jerry

A special shout-out to it because as a child I was obsessed with it.

7. Mr. Queen - In which a womanizing star cook from modern times transmigrates and now he is the queen of joseon. Political court intrigue on the menu as well.

Everything about this show was almost tailer made for me. The humor that never fades even into the late episodes. The characters and their complexity. The romance between two people who started as enemies. The drama, the intrigue! Perfect! Amazing! Wonderf- WHAT DO YOU MEAN THIS IS THE ENDING

Mr Queen managed to give me the worst ending I have possibly ever seen and still managed to become my favorite kdrama. Because even if the last episode is a crime everything before that really is just too well done.

8. Love between fairy and devil - in which the most powerful man is the universe is forced to take care of a plant

My feelings with this show and Mr queen are pretty similar except that with Lbfad while maybe not the best paced at the end the ending didn't suck. The couple just has so much love and respect for each other. And the emotions ahhh. So many emotional moments!
