anyway this was fantastic and I won a copy of the Re-Animator soundtrack AND I got to ask Jeffrey Combs a question in the Q&A!!!
one thing I really enjoy about bad movies is the ways in which they fail to deliver exposition. an opening text crawl or narration is often a bad sign (Star Wars is an outlier) and if there's opening text that someone's reading out loud you're doomed. instead of or in addition to that, there's often two characters explaining things to each other that they don't need to be told -- it ends up sounding like "when I flip this switch on the wall, a force known as electricity will illuminate the overhead 'light-bulb.'" or "your father and I are married and we are the parents of both you and your brother, who was born three years after you."
anyway Combs as a genre actor often gets saddled with varying levels of technobabble and what I usually refer to as Department of Exposition and Backstory work, and I asked him if it's particularly difficult to deliver that kind of dialogue
and he was like "that's a good question because that information needs to get to the audience, they need to know it. the movie can't go forward without it. and you have to respect the text. some actors I've met have said 'oh, I won't say that,' and I'm like well... too bad? buuut... ehhh. sometimes you just have to make it work, you know?
"there's one line in Re-Animator that makes me cringe now, it's when Dr. Hill has just hit me in the head with a shovel after the head-torso extravaganza, and I get up and I'm like 'he took everything! he took my notes, he took all the serum! except what I have upstairs.'"
he made a face and we all laughed. "I had to say that! because when I get to the hospital I do have some, I have quite a lot of it, actually." he mimed a scene where West pulls out two full syringes and yells "OVERDOOOOSE!" and we all went woooooo! yeah!
"we have to get that in there, but it's just the most artificial fucking thing I ever said! but yeah, you just have to make it work."
the thing is I never noticed that until he pointed it out because the movie's so fucking good and he's so fucking good in it that there isn't time to pick at it because you're having too much fun. but he's right, it's super awkward. and he's also right that you just gotta.
I am always impressed when actors and writers manage to convey large amounts of necessary information in a way that doesn't feel artificial. It has long been my contention, for example, that the success of Star Wars relies in large part on Alec Guinness and Peter Cushing, two veterans who were handed giant chunks of incomprehensible (to them) space wizard death ray bullshit that they absolutely had to sell to the audience. I've seen enough Star Wars ripoffs to know what happens when the actors can't do that. it's fatal.
indeed, we saw several examples of Combs doing the same, over the course of the festival. Re-Animator isn't so bad; they don't spend a lot of time on how the reagent works, just what it does. From Beyond gets into the weeds a little with the resonator, but no more so than the average; they make the awkwardness part of his characterization in The Frighteners; and in Doctor Mordrid, woof, he does his best but C. Courtney Joyner has never been a good writer even by Full Moon/Empire standards.
anyway I am also pleased to report that Combs spent a bunch of time chatting with fans even outside of the meet-n-greet stuff and also watched at least half of the movies. He was just really into what was happening there and I hope he felt appreciated.
we are in a theater full of sickos and degenerates awaiting the start of Beyond Re-Animator: A Jeffrey Combs Retrospective and look at that fucking lineup
I haven't felt this at home in a crowd since the b-movie festival we used to go to and honestly there's a lot more women and queers here

For the fuckable meme: Mash, Mordrid and Hercules
repulsive | no | just a hug | kissable | maybe | down to cuddle | yes | absolutely | Take Me Now
i鈥檇 top them | i鈥檇 bottom for them
i鈥檇 dom them | i鈥檇 sub for them
one night stand | fuckbuds | partner | marry me
I would only smashu the mashu if she truly wanted it, and then I鈥檇 feel awkward. That and I鈥檓 fairly positive Lancelot would be an... angry... dadalot.

As my wuvly gf would agree, Mordred is husband, and I love him. So yes, I would smash.

But seeing as you didn鈥檛 specify, I鈥檓 assuming True Archer/Alcides. So no.
... and I mean, I wouldn鈥檛 smash Berserker!Herc either way, but-
