Book Blurb:
The third and final installment in Nisha Sharma’s beloved Shakespeare-inspired rom-com trilogy—an ode to Twelfth Night—is the perfect friends to lovers romp featuring an accidental wedding, meddling families, and plenty of sizzling chemistry.
Veera Mathur has been through a lot in the past year. Both of her friends found soul mates, the man she fell in love with got engaged to another woman, and her father fired her before selling the family company. When her twin sister, Sana, tells her there is no way of getting her old life back, Veera feels lost at sea: a single, unemployed mess with a bad tattoo and tons of talent, but nowhere to go.
Deepak Datta hasn’t had the best luck either. To secure enough board votes for the CEO position at his family's company, Illyria Media, he’s ready to marry board member and famous beauty influencer, Olivia Gupta. That is until he wakes up to a get ready with me video announcing their separation. Despite his immediate relief, Deepak needs to do something fast to repair his image.
After a series of convenient mishaps bring them together again—including a literal shipwreck, way too many drinks, and a sunset elopement on the beach—Deepak and Veera realize their accidental wedding might be the solution to their career aspirations. Together, they plot against the very company that ruined their lives in the first place.
As they try to convince the world their friendship was a ruse for romance they’ve felt all along, the line between fake and real begins to blur. Now Veera and Deepak must ask themselves the terrifying question that has haunted them since the first time they met: will love ruin everything?
With her signature humor and heartfelt storytelling, Nisha Sharma writes a messy, spicy romance about identity, family honor, and love. In Marriage & Masti, readers are sure to love the highly anticipated finale of this beloved trilogy.
Review:
The last book in the Shakespeare inspired rom com trilogy featuring two best friends, one fake marriage, and a chance at falling in love! Veera has been through a lot in the last year: fired from her job, her best friends are both married now, and the guy she has a crush on is engaged to someone else... and to top it off her twin sister decides to tell her that she's opting out of their business plan right as they get off a boat accident and has lost both their wallets leaving them stranded without any cash.... and now Veera has to call the one guy she wanted to avoid to ask for help, the guy who broke her heart, Deepak. Deepak has only one goal in his life: to become the CEO to his family's business. He entered into an arranged marriage as a business deal to secure more votes to get him the seat on the board that he needed to get the CEO vote. Yet when his fiancee breaks up with him on the internet the only person he wants to talk to is Veera, his best friend and the only person who gets him... who suddenly asked for space. Yet when she calls asking for help Deepak is more than happy to get away from his PR nightmare of a breakup with his ex and see the one woman who makes him feel safe and happy. Yet when he arrives one thing leads to the next and suddenly they are drunkenly helping out at a wedding and perform a fake marriage ceremony that might actually be very real as they followed through with all the religious steps and now in the eyes of their community and religion are very much married. Deepak realizes one thing: he is very much in love with Veera and wants a real marriage with her and he can't believe all the time he's lost not seeing her... if only he could convince her that he means it and that their fake marriage isn't fake to him at all. Veera is determined to keep her space and doesn't want to open her heart to heartbreak again but Deepak is getting harder and harder to resist. With both their reputations and jobs on the line, their families scrutiny, and their hearts... can they find a way through this fake marriage? I absolutely adored this one, it's such a sweet read and I loved how down bad Deepak was for Veera. Its a really cute read and the spice was fun. The characters are enjoyable and I loved seeing the other characters from the previous books in this one. It's a delightful series and one I'd recommend for anyone who enjoys a great rom com!

Marriage & Masti by Nisha Sharma is the friends-to-lovers, fake dating marriage romance of the year. The bold, brilliantly beautiful love story is impossible to put down from the moment you pick it up, making it a stellar conclusion to an already incredible trilogy.
Sharma’s writing is a gorgeously woven tapestry of love that highlights why the best things in life are worth waiting for. From the dedication to the very last line, the book features the kind of story that will comfort a number of people who are often wounded by their loneliness but afraid of vocalizing those heartaches aloud. It’s a story for the women who work toward what they love and have it unjustly taken from them only to then blessedly have the universe conspire in a cosmically perfect way to ensure that they come out on top. It’s the type of story where you close the book and thank every romance writer aloud because this is why we continue reading—for the hope of it all, the joy, and the reminder of what we deserve.

ARC Review of Marriage and Masti by Nisha Sharma
Rating: 4/5 Heat Level: 3.5/5 Pub Date: August 27th
Premise:
A Twelfth Night-inspired romcom; Veera Mathur drunkenly marries her friend and crush Deepak Datta, and they agree to stay married as platonic friends until they meet their respective career goals.
My review:
Nisha Sharma finished her If Shakespeare Were An Auntie series strong with a friends-to-lovers romance done RIGHT. It has the perfect amount of pining and angst without veering into pathetic territory, and the way Deepak and Veera's romance develops post-marriage feels so natural and QUITE swoony.
Veera's in a bad place after being forced out of her family business by her own dad before they merge with Deepak's company. She's aimless and trying to raise capital with her twin sister for their next venture when she's yacht-wrecked in Goa. Enter Deepak, who was juuuuust dumped by his influencer fiancée via "get-ready-with-me" video (I did laugh; THERE'S your "com" in the romcom) and he rescues Veera, except they have a few too many and wake up married the next morning.
Here's the thing: Veera and Deepak have a history. Their friend groups merged a couple years back and they really hit it off, something we see via flashback text message conversations (similar to Tastes Like Shakkar which I loved), and you really see how Veera developed feelings for Deepak, as well as her hurt when she found out Deepak was engaged to someone else without telling her. Somewhere along the way, probably after his engagement, Deepak realizes he has feelings for Veera too and he takes the opportunity to play the long game after their accidental marriage. I like how neither Deepak nor Veera are in a place where they're like, super tragic about their love being unrequited which is how a lot of friends-to-lovers romances don't end up working for me. They never take it out on the other person, and though Veera especially hesitates even after they have sex and Deepak has kind of made his feelings known, it doesn't feel contrived.
I think Indian weddings are seen both in India and abroad as this enormous to-do (if recent events are any indication) and sort of the be-all-end-all, but there is so much more to a marriage than the wedding. And because Veera and Deepak basically elope, we don't get the wedding and instead, we see all these lovely, meaningful post-marriage Indian (specifically Hindu-Punjabi) traditions like the Aunties blessing their home and the Grihapravesha pooja to welcome Veera to Deepak's family home. And some of these moments are so so romantic— I DIED when Deepak pleats Veera's dupatta and helps her with her baliyan earrings before their wedding reception, and the way they observe, but also subvert the patriarchal tradition of Karva Chauth (where married women fast for their husband's well-being) in such a sweet way.
A couple other things worth noting— there is a lot of boardroom drama; the plot is centered around Deepak getting enough votes to become CEO, and Veera finding closure and moving forward after being shunted out of her family's company by her own dad. And a part of that, interestingly, is going no-contact with a family member, something that is still looked down upon in =South Asian communities, but I appreciate the nuanced way it was handled in this book, and by the end, you can see Veera is 100% valid for doing what she does. I also liked how the story deals with Veera feeling like the odd one out after both her friends coupled off which is very relatable.
The sex:
Deepak has strong "don't worry baby I'll take care of you" energy and I have to say, I'm a fan. It starts off strong with a sleepy sex moment (HOT; I love when two characters are just too exhausted to not give into their impulses), but my favorite scene is definitely before their belated wedding reception, and Veera is feeling anxious so she asks for "stress relief"— Obviously Deepak is more than happy to oblige, and there are so many details I loved, like the chime of her anklets against his back, and the way her lehenga is half off and exposing her partially. Again, Nisha Sharma is doing the most to eroticize Indian clothes and jewelry and I'm HERE for it.
There's also this mild brat/bossy dynamic which kind of peaks when Veera and Deepak go all the way the first time. It was surprising in a good way, and I just wish Nisha had expanded on it some more.
Overall:
Look, it's hard to find South Asian romances with this level of heat (and believe me, I've looked) and Nisha Sharma did a great job of interweaving the romance and culture in a really lovely way that I'd recommend to anyone looking for a romcom-esque romance novel.
Thank you to Avon Books and NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

Saachi - Shravan Wedding To Be A Grand Affair [29 July 2010]
Sony’s Baat Hamari Pakki Hai will celebrate that of Saachi and Shravan amidst hype and hoopla this Sunday. Celebrities such as, Ragini Khanna, Jay Soni, Mahhi Vij, Aamir Ali, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Rakhi Sawant, Bappi Lahiri, Krishna, Sudesh Lahiri, Bharti Singh, Anu Malek, Sunidhi Chauhan, Salim Merchant along with the participants of Indian Idol 5 and Boogie Woogie will be performing on the wedding day. Producer Tony Singh says, “The theme of our show is that marriages are made in heaven and if someone is made for the other, then they will tie the knot against all odds. And so to make this marriage ceremony different from the other marriages on TV and to make it a little unusual than the rest we decided to make it grander.” We spoke to the dulha, actor Barun Sobti who says, “As many celebs are attending our marriage and everyone is working very hard, shooting for 18 long hours especially Ankita and I, even we are performing to the song, ‘Ahun ahun ahun’ for the Bollywood Night which has been shot yesterday.” Ankita Sharma aka Saachi says, “I am very much excited as well as exhausted shooting for it, but at the same time Barun and I are having masti on the sets as we are finding this as a real part of our lives, as if hamari sach mein shaadi ho rahi hai. I have danced to ‘Bole choodiyan’, my favorite number, as I just love dancing and wanted to perform once! The most touching moment for me, while shooting was the bidaai sequence when my on screen family actually started crying when I was leaving, as we are very attached to each other. I was also stunned when I heard we had ordered almost 100 kilos of laddoos for the marriage and they were so yummy that everyone ate them up leaving nothing for the couple!” Well, we can only ‘burp’ to that!

Review of Marriage and Masti by Nisha Sharma
Marriage and Masti by Nisha Sharma is the third book in her 'If Shakespeare Was an Aunty' series. In this series, Sharma ingeniously retells Shakespeare plays from the perspective of Indian immigrants who are making their way in America. Coming to the end of reading this series, I must say everything feels quite bittersweet, as I feel as if I have grown attached to these characters, and it pains me to know that this is the end of their stories.
As per usual, everything Nisha writes is excellent. She is an Indian American romance author, and what I believe sets her work apart is her ability to intertwine social commentary and romance. Life is not an easy road, and people are not two-dimensional. In her writing, Sharma manages to create complex characters, and she makes you fall in love with them (or hate them to death) as they traverse life, encountering many problems.
This novel tells the stories of Veera and Deepak, friends turned lovers, when Deepak’s engagement falls through and they stage a fake Indian wedding to save face. The only thing is that this marriage was anything but fake; it actually happened on a whim, and to Deepak, Veera is very much his wife; she just takes some time to actually realise it. This novel takes us on a ride as these newlyweds learn how to live together in the midst of trouble brewing at Deepak’s family’s company as competition challenges him for the CEO position, in the midst of Veera’s own personal battles with her misogynistic father, who is undermining her plans to have a successful career in the field of finance. This couple showed readers that true love can really brew in the midst of adversity, and by having the right partner, you can tackle any problem that life throws your way.
This novel ended the series perfectly, as it served as a goodbye message from the characters the readers fell in love with as the series progressed. It tied up all the loose ends and resolved all the conflicts, and it was evident how hard the characters worked to overcome their battles, so the ending was anything but convenient. This novel was enjoyable to read through and through; the language was engaging, the pace of the plot was perfect, and the characters were relatable. This book was not just a great experience for me as a reader, but as a writer, I couldn’t help but to stop and take notes. Nisha Sharma is a writer's writer; her work inspires me to write and reminds me why I write. Without a doubt, I would recommend this book and her work in general to anyone who is a lover of romance novels.

Trivia's Monthly Book Round Up: July 2024
A Kingdom of Dreams by Judith McNaught
The high stakes enemies-to-lovers romance I've NEEDED in my historicals; Jenny and Royce are on opposite sides of the English-Scottish feud in the late Medieval times, and both of them are not afraid to fight dirty (spanking, face-slashing, international humiliation, etc.), but their love story is surprisingly tender and quite epic.
Well Bred by Adriana Anders
Diner owner Kit propositions ex-con/brother's friend Jake, who works for her as a chef, and asks him to help her have a baby. The catch? it has to be cold, clinical sex only, no getting off. Ugh, this book made me cry because it was surprisingly emotional— not just because of the angst but it felt really poignant. I do think Kit was a bit wishy-washy for a woman in her 40s, but it was mostly understandable for a someone in her situation. I also appreciate the way Adriana Anders handled her infertility.
Seas and Greetings by Julie Murphy and Sierra Simone
A sapphic bodyguard romance set within the Christmas Notch universe; Y'all, this was so unserious (I mean really.... cruise ship Twilight-inspired musicals? the pettiest blackmailing plot I've ever read??) but it's Sierra Simone and Julie Murphy so they're masters at bringing the humor AND the heat.
Marriage and Masti by Nisha Sharma (out on August 27th)
A solid end to Nisha's If Shakespeare Was An Auntie series and just a well-executed friends-to-lovers romance that also explores what it means to be a Punjabi-Hindu bride and a wife— the cultural and ritualistic aspects.
