Here are some photos and videos from Marlow bridge the other day! I could travel and go sightseeing and food tasting for a living, but I love cats too much and this life scenario is not very probable I guess 😹. Exploring occasionally on weekends and holidays will have to do I guess. So people casually hang out at this cemetery, simply because it has a great view. The Oarsman Pub Restaurant, Marlow, Bucks

We were invited to try out the new Oarsman on Spittal Street Marlow!

Based on a French Bistro with a menu of seasonal dishes, this place oozes fine dining appeal but with the added charm of an intimate wood-panelled pub. You don’t get to have a restaurant along Spittal street these days without the word michelin star somewhere in the mix, and this is no different - with Bray-royalty Nigel Sutcliffe (former Fat Duck COO) and James McLean at the helm with a series of award winning chefs, you’re in for a real treat.

The menu has a charcuterie section and a fantastic bar snacks section, as well as the regular starters and mains so we mix and matched from all of them.

We went for:

Heritage carrot starter

A cold dish with cooked carrot, date and ‘herb emulsion’ - a kind of insanely delicious green sauce - with pecorino cheese on top. I do t understand how someone can make carrot taste this good.

Beef koftas from the bar snacks menu- THESE WERE DELICIOUS. With a sauce that was next level - they really know how to flavour a sauce in this place.

Roast beef with spiced carrot, crisp potato and Yorkshire pudding. The spiced carrot (another amazing carrot) was puréed and was so good it tasted like spiced aniseed but better, went beautifully with the beef - which was exquisite. Literally, the knife glided through it like butter.

Roast pork chop with cabbage in this gorgeous sauce romesco, I’ve never tried cabbage like this, flavoured with a sort of bbq or smoked paprika flavour it was gorgeous. The pork was cooked to perfection and also gorgeous.

Side of crispy potato with chilli and aioli sauce- I could have eaten a whole bowl of this.

Dessert

Chocolate mousse - this was bloody amazing. Warm with malt ice cream on top. Rich, but not too much, and very velvety.

Créme caramel - a classic favourite of mine, topped with salted caramel it didn’t disappoint.

They pride themselves on their selection of rare wines, so an amazing place to go if you’re into trying new wines- don’t expect to stick to what you know! I asked for a Sauvignon blanc but they didn’t have it! They’re much too sophisticated for that! They recommended something similar though.

Newly reopened from its previous incarnation as a pub, it still retains some of its pub qualities with a ‘snug’ and gorgeous booths for you to sit at with intimate lighting to bring a cosy atmosphere.

All in all we really enjoyed our meal, it is sophisticated without being stuffy, the staff are friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu which I loved, and the food was excellent.
