When he spins her, her back smacks into the bricks, and they're cold. She barely has time to register the impact before he's kissing her again: coaxing her lips apart in more of a demand than a request, licking his way between her teeth to lay claim to the resulting gasp. His hands find her shoulders and her arms, trail their way down her waist and slide around to her lower back. He hauls her up, higher, gets her balanced by angling her against the stones with one hip, and all she can do is kiss him back, groan against his mouth, close her eyes as his tongue sweeps across—

A high-pitched shriek from the room beyond, the sound of a fiend summoning its untamed magic. Magus growls against the corner of her mouth, and it reverberates through her jaw. "Your merry band of misfits has come to rescue you."

"They don't know I'm here," Marle whispers, even while tilting her head to seek out one last crash, one last brand—one last kiss.

A crash, and then the warbling death whimper of likely the same creature. Magus pulls back, leaving her bereft of the warmth. "It seems, my dear, that they do."

Chrono Trigger doodles I’m doing for practice using pose reference things I found on Pinterest. I want to post more often so I plan on doing a couple of these for awhile. He prided himself on his restraint, the fact that his emotions rarely touched his face. Though part of him, still, after all this time, remained a frightened boy, an out-of-place interloper thrown twelve thousand years into the future clinging to revenge, it was rare that he allowed such things to show on the surface. He tried to leave the trauma of his past in Zeal where it belonged, his focus on the future and his efforts to undo his mistakes. His determination was reflected in the intensity of his gaze, in the steadiness of his hand whenever it summoned his magic, whether driving forth ice shards or gouts of flame, or summoning the darkness of eternity to enshroud his enemies.

When his composure failed him, it took him by surprise. The fact that it would be her who would shake the foundations of his self-control – a slip of a girl with golden hair like sunshine and the personality to match, her optimism only tempered by the occasional childish outburst – was equally unexpected. But when he watched as she was struck down by a fierce blow, tossed aside by a massive claw as if she were no more than a rag doll being carelessly discarded, it was not with coolness and poise that he struck back at her opponent. His magic burst forth in retribution before he could so much as think, his face twisted with rage as all of his power coursed through his outstretched palms to immolate the creature which had dared to harm her.

When the moment passed and his rage had abated, a shaky sigh escaped his lungs and his hands trembled. He cast a furtive glance at her, concern sharply tugging at something in his chest, only to find her friends hurriedly gathering to tend to her wounds. He almost wished he had healing magic like hers. An odd thought; he'd never before felt the need for anything beside raw, destructive power.

But he could do nothing to help her now, and so he kept his distance, vainly trying to recapture the ghost of his control and fearing that, thanks to her, it would never grace him again.

One of my very favourite games! Chrono Trigger was the first RPG I really cut my teeth on, and wow did it set a high bar. I rented the cart out for WEEKS at a time, trying to get every ending. I probably paid for that cartridge several times over in rental fees. Worth it.

I still don’t know what I’m going to do with these. Enh, maybe I’ll open a shop somewhere.
