It Takes a Village by Hillary Rodham Clinton. Illustrated by Marla Frazee
Age Recommendation: Pre-School/Kinder to Early Primary Topic/ Theme: Cooperation, togetherness Setting: A generic Western village
Rating: 5/5
This is just a simple story but that is good, it makes it effective. It is a community coming together to build a large playground for children. But there is no doubting the true message Hillary Clinton is sending in this book. The village of the title is the world or at the bare minimum the United States. A reminder under the Presidency of Donald Trump as it were, that we are all in this together (this was published in September of 2017). Hillary is one of the biggest advocates for togetherness and children as members of society that I've known of in years. This continues that path reminding adults reading the book that children are citizens as well and in a way showing children what they are capable of. The author's note is well worth reading, it explains the point of writing the book, the way the book can be read and interpreted. My favourite lines in this book come from mid-way through the book, though they are actually on consecutive pages (hence the formatting).
Kids don't come with instructions. But neither do grown-ups! Every child needs a champion. Or two. Or three. Or more.
Marla Frazee has such striking illustrations. There are clear lines where pencil has been used and watercolour for natural materials, trees, blossoms, sky and ground. I found it an effective design choice. Her choice to use a mix of full-page illustrations and smaller pieces focusing on a single scene is a great one. It allows for this to be a brilliant read-to or read along as Hillary Clinton envisioned. Everything about the illustrations is the right choice for this book. Whoever matched Clinton and Frazee and did so well.

Baby CEO
The Boss Baby, a 2017 animated comedy film from DreamWorks Animation, brings a unique twist to the concept of sibling rivalry with a dose of corporate intrigue. Directed by Tom McGrath and featuring a star-studded voice cast including Alec Baldwin, Steve Buscemi, and Lisa Kudrow, this film is loosely based on Marla Frazee's 2010 picture book of the same name.
Plot Overview
Set in the late 1970s, the story follows 7-year-old Tim Templeton, whose life takes a wild turn with the arrival of his new baby brother, Boss Baby. Unlike typical infants, Boss Baby sports a suit and tie and exhibits adult-like behavior when out of his parents' sight. Tim discovers that Boss Baby is actually a secret agent from BabyCorp, sent to investigate the declining love for babies caused by the rising popularity of puppies. This mission kedai168 leads to a thrilling adventure that sees Tim and Boss Baby teaming up to thwart a plot by the CEO of Puppy Co., Francis E. Francis, who plans to unleash a "Forever Puppy" to steal all the love from babies.
Critical Reception and Impact
The Boss Baby premiered at the Miami International Film Festival on March 12, 2017, before hitting U.S. theaters on March 31. While it garnered mixed reviews—praised for its animation and Alec Baldwin's voice performance but critiqued for its complex plot and humor—it proved to be a financial success, grossing over $528 million worldwide against a $125 million budget. The film was recognized with nominations for Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards, Annie Awards, and Golden Globes.
Franchise Expansion
Following the film's success, The Boss Baby expanded into a popular franchise. A Netflix series, The Boss Baby: Back in Business, premiered on April 6, 2018, continuing the adventures of Boss Baby. The sequel film, The Boss Baby: Family Business, kedai168 was released on July 2, 2021, in theaters and on Peacock. Additionally, the franchise saw another Netflix series, The Boss Baby: Back in the Crib, launch on May 19, 2022.
Conclusion
From its quirky premise to its heartfelt conclusion, The Boss Baby offers a blend of comedy and charm that resonates with audiences of all ages. The film’s inventive storyline and memorable characters have cemented its place in the realm of family-friendly entertainment, with the franchise continuing to grow and delight viewers worldwide.

Okay before I go any further...
"... and course all the strawberries you could want. Varying different sizes, and colors, and something called pine berries that definitely looked like pink strawberries to you. Rosewyn Penelope loved those the most."
The entire paragraph is fantastic!! Immediately I must recommend a book to you. Now whether you have kids or not never matters to me. I've been collecting children's books since before my kids were even an itch in their Daddy's pocket - before I had even met him.
The Seven Silly Eaters, written by Mary Ann Hoberman and illustrated by Marla Frazee
This is one of my all time favorites. It is soooo fun to read out loud, especially with a very exasperated tone. LOL And the illustrations are sooo full of details that you can stare at it so long and be perfectly entertained.

The 'Boss Baby' is Back with a Well-Intentioned Mess
The ‘Boss Baby’ is Back with a Well-Intentioned Mess
Despite its success, there are many who have never seen the DreamWorks’ 2017 hit film, The Boss Baby. This is especially sad for animation lovers because the film was original with a nod to a classic animation style of yesteryear. It was not based on a comic book series, but instead a well-loved, yet fairly unknown children’s book by Marla Frazee. Tom McGrath’s film was even nominated for an…

Youthful Thursday
You may have seen the movie called just, Boss Baby, I believe. But, this book was so much better. The moment that the new baby arrives, well, he’s a new baby, of course he’s the boss. And, so, this book equates boss (used as ‘in charge’) to a boss (supervisor) to hilarious resultes. Heh, like ‘drinks made to order 24/7, and his ‘executive gym’. It’s awesome.
Ooh, and there’s even a sequel too, The Bossier Baby, which looks just as hilarious.
You may like this book If you Liked: King Baby by Kate Beaton, Lazy Little Loafers by Susan Orlean, or The Wild Baby by Barbro Lindgren

Nicole reviews a whimsical and charming new Middle Grade book, all about a girl in STEM. Perfect for the young scientist! Read what she has to say...
Weird Little Robots by Carolyn Crimi, illustrated by Corinna Luyken Penguin Random House October 2019 Middle Grade
Quirky robots come to life in Carolyn Crimi's charming Middle Grade debut all about friendships, science, and magic. Eleven-year-old Penny Rose is an avid scientist whose mind shines bright with brilliant inventions. Using abandoned knick knacks, Penny Rose creates an adorable cast of robots. But in this little town, magic is brewing, and her little friends begin to move and talk on their own.
As this is happening, Penny Rose is also dealing with being the new kid at school. She quickly befriends Lark, a passionate birder with her very own crow friend. While both girls are keen scientists, Penny Rose soon learns that Lark is known as a bit of an oddball at school. So when Penny rose receives a mysterious invitation to a secret science society and Lark doesn't, Penny Rose has to choose between her friend and an exciting new adventure.
Nicole's rave: By far one of my favourite titles of 2019! Using clear and concise writing, the characters are well-developed and the issues richly explored. Penny Rose and Lark may be young, but the challenges faced and opportunities for growth are plentiful, making Weird Little Robots a wonderful reading experience. Told with heart and an appreciation to the complexity of middle grade years, this book does not attempt to simplify nor talk down to its readers. It's refreshing to see credence given to the nuance of young friendships and still nascent explorations of self without any compromise on the magic and charm so inherent to this genre. Along with a cast of endearing characters—including one brave squirrel—and equally charming illustrations, readers will fall in love with Weird Little Robots, and hopefully be inspired to create some magic of their very own!
Where to find in-store: Age 9
Perfect for fans of: Waylon! One Awesome Thing by Sara Pennypacker and illustrated by Marla Frazee, Charlotte's Web by E.B. White, Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
