“Looks like you’ve left out some details, too.” Mark was quick to come back with, a brow raised. It was hard to surprise the detective after the shit he’s seen. He’s watched people die, he’s helped people die, and dealt with the aftermath. But seeing the skinny photographer as an ‘official’ member of Team Jigsaw, that was the closest he’s felt to shocked since he himself joined.

Not that he could really judge. He interviewed Adam not too long after his trap, he was (and still technically is) working the case of the Jigsaw murders. He was supposed to be the guy who put this man away for good, and he was his muscle. So surely there was a lining of betrayal to the younger’s words. Or maybe it was the last shred of a conscience Mark had left, hearing things that weren’t there.

He nodded his head towards Adam. “Why don’t you grab something from that cabinet behind you and we talk this out the right way?”

actions speak louder than words

‘Jigsaw’ing wasn’t an easy trade. It was rewarding to those who truly believed in John’s ideology —- and for those like Hoffman who got off on torturing a few already-damaged souls. But none of the apprentices could truly call it ‘easy’, and that night was a shining example of that. Surprisingly to none, not many people went down without a fight. And even when they’ve managed to survive, some still choose revenge over redemption. 

Perhaps it was hypocritical of him to judge; a similar decision was how he ended up under John’s thumb in the first place. But considering the state he was left before properly executing the subject, he really couldn’t care less about such trivial things. He had no problem getting himself cleaned up. He wasn’t whining around the warehouse like an injured dog, he was just fine licking his own wounds. But while he was doing so, Adam decided to bother him — he always had shit timing. 

That was how he ended up in a place not too different from his own, after all. 

He knew bringing that up might have been enough to piss him off and send the kid running, leaving him be. But truthfully, he was just too tired to fight him off. So he handed the supplies over and allowed the younger to finish what he started. He asked questions as he did so, and Mark usually answered. He didn’t say much at first, but as he simmered down, and when the damage done to his pride finally started to heal itself, his attitude slowly started to fade - at least a tiny bit.

He fell quiet once more when Adam went over his busted bottom lip, dark blue eyes staring rather intensely at the fellow apprentice as he wiped away the dark crimson. For no particular reason, it was a habit of his to almost overanalyze his surroundings. Adam’s

Despite his demeanor, and what you’d expect from the detective, a part of him was grateful for the assistance. 

He’d likely wring that tiny neck of Adam’s if he were to brag too loudly about such a thing, but he was at least somewhat appreciative of the act. He wouldn’t have let him go through with it if that weren’t the case.
