“The Great Explorers” (12” x 12” on stretched cotton-duck, SOLD). Here’s a painting from a while back where I tried to be a bit more ‘formless’ and abstract than usual. It’s really difficult; I do try to paint freely but somehow it just gets tighter and tighter until there’s no room to play with. Anyway, I did like the colours in this one, and the galleon, of course, had to be populated by sailor-mice (what else?) I’ve always liked models of ships and boats, though I’ve rarely been out on the water; I like all the intricacies of the rigging, and the rails and all the other bits and pieces, all made to scale.
