robin's opinions about sparks albums 2013-2023
the final part, where I talk a lot more than the rest of my reviews for some reason (4/4)
Tumblr media
Two Hands One Mouth (2013): I've only listened to this once all the way through and I didn't like it very much
Bops: Sparks Overture?? I love an overture, I am what's known as a Musical Theatre Bitch
Flops: ...the rest of it... for now...
Tumblr media
FFS self-titled (2015): I have also only listened to this a few times
Bops (aka songs that stood out) : Call Girl <3, Johnny Delusional, Dictator's Son
Flops: I don't remember if any of the others were good!! I have to listen to this album more
Tumblr media
Hippopotamus (2017): I didn't think of this before but "Life With The Macbeths" sounds like it could really fit in with the Annette soundtrack!! I think it's a little too basic for Annette but too dramatic for the rest of Hippopotamus. I don't know what to do with this information
Bops: What The Hell Is It This Time (!!), Missionary Position (!!), So Tell Me Mrs. Lincoln.../Bummer (lots of bops on this album)
Flops: I get tired of Giddy Giddy often, and A Little Bit Like Fun is actually not that fun to me. The rest of them are great, which is nice!!
Tumblr media
A Steady Drip, Drip, Drip (2020)
Bops: weirdly I LOVE Lawnmower! it's such a charming song and they are truly grandpa-core at heart!! second and third place are Onomato Pia and Left Out in the Cold. surprise fourth place goes to All That because I don't listen to it very much but it makes me emotional when I do :')
Flops: Please Don't Fuck Up My World (immediate skip for me. not sure why) and Nothing Travels Faster Than The Speed of Light, which is just a little boring :/
Tumblr media
Annette soundtrack (2021): I don't listen to this regularly but I've seen Annette twice so I'll base my opinions off of that
Bops: I loved anything Marion Cotilliard sang (for example The Woods) and anything to do with the Baby Aria. Also the Lalala song that sampled Thanks but No Thanks was GENIUS (and So May We Start, of course). I'm going through the demos rn and a lot of them are really cool too
Flops: Most of the time Adam Driver was not the moment. I really didn't like the ending songs, like the thing about the abyss, I thought they were equal parts overdramatic and boring. (Somehow.) You Used to Laugh is pretty cool but I could go without a lot of his other songs
Tumblr media
and finally... The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte (2023)
Bops: The first half of this album is SO incredible because it feels like they're reinventing synth/electronic pop in a really cool way! The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte, Veronica Lake, and Nothing Is As Good As They Say It Is are my favorites.
Flops: As soon as we hit Track 7 I feel like I lose interest, with the exception of A Love Story. It's a weird phenomenon and I'm curious to see if anyone else feels this way!

It's the first Monday in May and we kick of the month with the Met Gala. This year's theme is honours late designer, (k*nty) Karl Lagerfeld with "Karl Lagerfield: A Line of Beauty". The dress code was pretty wide - honour Karl. And that was easy to do as Lagerfield designed for Dior, Balmain, Chloe, Fendi and Chanel so there was plenty of inspiration to go around.
The chair is, of course, Anna Wintour and co-chairs are Michaela Coel, Dua Lipa, Penelope Cruz and Roger Federer.
Miracles upon miracles I personally think the men killed it this year. Yeah, there were some plain and uninspired looks (::coughs: Rami Malek), but overall the men did not come to play.
Except for leader of Team Gucci, Jared Leto!
Jared as Lagerfeld's cat/heir, Choupette.

What is the difference between Arab and Kabyle and Amazight ?
Hi nonny!
Arab means people from the Arabian Peninsula. It’s also used as a short form for Arabophone, but that has its own issues and people confusing it for an ethnic use is why MENA is being used more now. (I’ll make a longpost soon elaborating on that term in greater detail.)
Amazigh are ethnic groups native to North Africa, primarily in the westernmost areas (most are in Algeria and Morocco) but usually when you say Amazigh people think of Morocco because like 1/4 of the population identifies as Amazigh.
(You can be of Amazigh descent but be so detached from the culture/language that you can’t really claim it, like my grandfather who wasn’t raised with the culture and only spoke French and Arabic)
Kabyle are Amazigh that are specific to Algeria. There’s a lot of them in France. Marion Cotilliard and Isabelle Adjani are both half-Kabyle if I remember correctly. Others I can think of are the late singer Rachid Taha and footballer Zizou.
Hope this helps <3

Wait wait sorry I saw your tags and had to look is up bc I haven’t seen tdkr since I was like 13 but marion cotilliard was supposed to be talia al’ghul????
And child Talia was played by Joey King in the same movie, wild right? I’m surprised they got away with that, they weren’t even spicy white, they were white white.
It never really comes up in people’s discussions about white-washing in Hollywood, even though it’s such a blunt in-your-face example of it.

(Another) Inception Fan Theory
Things I’ve Noticed About the Relationship of Inception and Tenet
Tenet is being released 4 days after the tenth anniversary of Inception
Exactly 3657 days will have passed from Inception’s wide release until the wide release of Tenet
If you add all the digits of 3657 up it makes 21
Scene 21 of the movie is when everything goes wrong, ie. when Saito gets shot and the train comes through
This could imply that Tenet is either the name of what happens when everything goes wrong in a dream (like Inception is when something is inspired) or that the movie (Tenet) is about what happened when a dream went wrong
If you add the digits of 21 up it makes 3
The 3rd level of Inception is what the final level, which means that Tenet could be about the FINAL something, possibly also level
The stars of Tenet say that they don’t fully understand it, which could imply that it has an ending that’s up for interpretation, much like Inception
John David Washington said that the two were related
He said the two are “in-laws” which means that they likely take place in the same universe
That could mean anything from the fact that it just happens in the same universe, to that they are both about dreams, to some of the main characters of Inception also appearing as either main characters or supporting characters
Either way, if they take place in the same universe it’s likely that we’ll see cameos from Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotilliard, and more.
As the movie approaches, you guys better believe I’m gonna be adding more to the list, because this is me right now:

Effy’s style for Soft Classics
Hi everyone!  Sorry this post has been so long overdue.  If you missed the beginning of this series, you can find out what your type is here.  Today we’re focused on soft classics for the anons who have requested it!  This one is interesting because as an adult, I think Kaya Scodelario is actually a soft classic, which is why she no longer suits the same outfits she wore on the show (when she was still a teenager and so had a more elongated, dramatic body type).
When you compare images of her when she was on Skins to images of her now, you can see the difference.
When she was on Skins, she had a very long, narrow, angular look:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But when she wears the same type of outfits now, you can see they don’t suit her as well because she’s become more of an hourglass shape, with very balanced features but a little bit of softness:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So the first thing I want to say is that if you’re still a teenager, your body type might change as you grow, and that’s totally okay and normal.
Soft classics are a balance of softness and angularity, with slightly more softness.  They are very symmetrical, with soft or rounded edges all around.  They tend to have a proportionate bust, waist, and hips, with slightly short and soft arms and legs.  Their facial features tend to be soft and full, with large eyes, soft cheeks, and full lips.
Examples of this type include Carolina Herrera, Catherine Deneuve, Catherine Oxenberg, Deborah Kerr, Donna Reed, Emma Thompson, Grace Kelly, Jessica Chastain, Joan Bennett, Joan Fontaine, Laura Linney, Lee Remick ,Marion Cotilliard, Meredith Baxter Birney, Merle Oberon, Meryl Streep, Naomi Watts, Norma Shearer, Olivia de Haviland, and Veronica Lake.  I think that list probably also includes  Megan Markle, Amber Rose, Emily Blunt, Rachel McAdams, Catherine Zeta Jones, Kirsten Dunst, and Leighton Meester.
In general, Soft Classics should look for clean and symmetrical silhouettes with waist emphasis, tapering or cropping around the ankles and wrists, and simple, soft, slightly rounded details.  Clean, unbroken lines, smooth draping, and small gathers look great on this type. But Classic types also have a little bit more leeway in terms of borrowing elements from other looks, since they are so balanced.
Starting with dresses, Soft Classics should look for options that are graceful, flowing, and elegant.  Flared shapes look great on this type, and waist definition is a must.  Ruffles, slightly ornate details, and sparkly fabrics are good things to look for. Soft Classics want to avoid severely tailored dresses, ones that are wide and unconstructed, and ones that are fussy or flouncy.
A simple black dress like the one Marion Cotillard is wearing here can provide a great base for an edgy outfit.  You can see that she has some slight ruching around the neckline, with a defined waist:
Tumblr media
I also really love a bodycon dress like this one as a base for a Soft Classic outfit:
Tumblr media
For an edgier look, this fit and flare leather dress is flattering on Soft Classic types because it has the flared skirt and defined waist:
Tumblr media
To channel some of Effy’s more glam, series 4 looks, you could try dresses like the ones below.  The sequins on the dress on the left provide some ornate detailing and sparkle, which is super flattering on Soft Classics, while the right has a mesh, which provides some edginess.  For all of these, adding a big leather belt could help to provide more waist definition:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Small details like on this dress are great for a Soft Classic look:
Tumblr media
I also really love this dress for an edgy Soft Classic look, since the defined, ruffled shoulders can read as edgy but without overwhelming a Soft Classic body.
Tumblr media
A lightweight, flowing silk dress like this one (but in black) with a thick leather belt is a super flattering choice for Soft Classics, and can easily be made edgy with the right accessories:
Tumblr media
For sweaters and shirts, look for options that are soft and smooth, short to moderate in lengths.  Lightweight knits, cashmere, angora, and silk are all great fabrics.  Avoid oversized or bulky tops, perky patterns, and thin ribbing.
Like with the dresses, I love a sheer or mesh top for an edgy Soft Classic look. They’re sexy and flattering and totally channel Effy’s series 4 looks:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also love a velvet top option for this type, since it’s soft, smooth, and touchable, but can still be edgy:
Tumblr media
Tops in lightweight fabrics like these are great for Soft Classics- for an “Effier” look, just look for the fabrics in black:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A ruffle neckline is also super flattering, and channels some of Effy’s more feminine looks:
Tumblr media
For pants, look for softly tailored styles in lightweight fabrics.  Soft pleats, tapered legs, and cropped hemlines are great for Soft Classics.  Straight leg pants are your best friend. Man-tailored pants, deep pleats, or oversized/baggy pants aren’t as flattering on this type.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A small plaid can look really edgy on Soft Classics:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course, straight leg jeans are also great on this type:
Tumblr media
For skirts, look for a-lines.  This is great because when Effy wears skirts, typically that’s the cut they have.  Leather is of course a great option, and if you can find one with some pleating, that will look super flattering.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For something super edgy, this kind of skirt would look great on a Soft Classic:
Tumblr media
For hair, Soft Classics should go for looks that are controlled, smooth, and soft, with clean, symmetrical outlines.  Curls and waves are great.  Moderate to long will be the most flattering, with layers framing the face.  The curly look Effy sometimes wears would be great for this type.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For makeup, opt for minimalistic looks.  Anything too heavy will be overpowering on a Soft Classic’s delicate features.  A soft, smokey eye is great for this type.  Makeup looks should be rounded, accurate, and very blended.  A glossy lip looks great on this type.
Tumblr media
For shoes, look for delicate, tapered shapes and avoid chunky styles.  You might think that these shoes look too delicate or simple for Effy’s look, but on a Soft Classic they’ll look edgier than they would on a more angular type, and heavier shoes might look out of place on you.
