Note
Mario vs Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis was released for the Nintendo DS in 2006/2007. It bears little resemblance to its predecessor in terms of gameplay, but has five spinoff games of its own.
I brought up mario vs donkey kong in my video about enumerating the super mario series, it's one of the most interesting edge cases in the whole franchise. there's an argument you could make that the mario vs donkey kong series is the mainline series within the broader mario-kong universe, with all other games in the franchise being spinoffs of it:
Donkey Kong (1981): the first game in the franchise
Donkey Kong (1994): the only (!) game which can be unambiguously framed as a "direct sequel" to the 1981 arcade game, featuring a continuation and expansion of the original game's story and gameplay
Mario vs. Donkey Kong (2004): began development as a remake of Game Boy Donkey Kong, and is often considered a sequel to it
Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis (2006): a direct sequel to Mario vs. Donkey Kong, but with a major shift in the gameplay structure
Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again! (2009): branded as a direct sequel to March of the Minis, though the story is a retelling of the events of the previous game. may or may not count as a mainline entry
Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem! (2010): unambiguously a direct sequel to Mario vs. Donkey Kong. the series continues from there with:
Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move (2013)
Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars (2015)
Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challenge (2016)

Do you collect any of the sorts of things that you post? If so, any highlights from that collection?
i don't have the cash or the space for collecting much rn, wish i could buy a bunch of used laptops to learn to fix and upgrade. i do collect ds and 3ds game cartridges, i have my red 3ds xl i got in 2014 in perfect condition, not a single scratch. my most prized game in the collection would be the japanese cartridge of mario vs donkey kong: mini-land mayhem. you could say i collect portable gameconsoles, beyond the 3ds i have a couple emulation machines (powkiddy q90 and rg35xx, both in transparent shells)

As a child, probably Wii Sports, Mario Vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem!, Some Brain Age game on the 2DS, Little Big Planet 2, and Sports Champions for the PS3. I kicked so much ass at that sword fighting mini game.
As a teen, MK10, Kingdom Hearts, Persona 5, Catherine, and Persona 3.

The Mario vs. Donkey Kong remake feels more like Nintendo testing the waters than anything else. Like they're trying to see whether fans are interested in another, more ambitious game in this old style. Either way, it was a fun game, but definitely not worth $50. I never played the GBA original, but I liked this version more than Mini-Land Mayhem (the only sequel I've played). However, it's on the short side and doesn't get very hard until the last 2-3 worlds.
I hear the bonus worlds are more challenging, so I'm looking forward to that.

Cranky Kong Is The Original Donkey Kong
For some reason there are people that still don't realize Cranky Kong is intended to be the original Donkey Kong. So I decided to make this post about Donkey Kong Senior and why he is the original.
So first off in Donkey Kong Country's opening you have Cranky Kong on top of the Classic Steel Gutters from the original Donkey Kong Arcade game, with the arcade theme playing. Only to be interrupted by his Grandson with boombox playing the DKC theme. This is a meta way of showing the 2 different generations of Kongs, and basically telling the player Cranky is the original Donkey Kong.
But if that's not enough the DKC manual on page 6 has the story of the game in it. In this straight up says that Cranky Kong is the original Donkey, and the current Donkey Kong is his grandson. "To see the familar wrinkled, white-bearded, grouchy face of his old granddad 'Cranky Kong' peering down at hi,. In his heyday, Cranky was the original Donkey Kong who battled Mario in several of his own games."
In Donkey Kong Country 2 GBA's Prologue Cranky references his past of kidnapping maidens and throwing barrels, and how he'd do it quite a bit. This would be a reference to games like the original Donkey Kong Arcade game, Donkey Kong 94, and the Game & Watch Gallery games. "I never did, whisking off maidens and throwing barrels around seven days a week, I was."
There is a line fron DKC2 Diddy's Kong Quest that Cranky says further confirming this. "Say hello to your old grandpappy Cranky. I'm back by popular demand to offer my wealth of gameplay wisdom for this unnecessary sequel."
While some people think this was forgotten about, in the manual for Donkey Kong Country Returns on page 25 Cranky is again called Donkey Kong the Third's grandfather. "Donkey Kong’s white-bearded, grouchy grandfather." In addition when leaving is Cranky Kong's Shop you can get this line of dialogue from Cranky, "glad I could help my grandson overcome this deadly challenge in exchange for a little cash money." Alongside several more lines of dialogue you can get confirming he is Donkey Kong the Third's grandfather. "Well, you've amazed your old grandpa by getting this far." "You made it all the way to the Volcano! You may have some of your grandpappy in you after all."
Before this in Mario Superstar Baseball in the Exhibition Records of the MVP we get more confirmation of this fact in DK's description. "His ancestor, the original Donkey Kong, wore no necktie." Note, this would be referring to the events of DKA when he didn't wear one.
On a side tangent, I find it interesting Cranky in game and in the manual represents the toxic gamers that usually of an older generation who are never satisfied, complains about certain characters getting games, compares newer games to older games, blinded by nostalgia, and gatekeeps gaming.
Back on track in a Nintendo Online Magazine we get a information for each of the Kongs. Cranky's and DK's solidify Cranky being the original DK and the current DK's grandfather. The following are basic Google Translations but they are accurate. The original Donkey Kong(Cranky) "He passed on his named 'Donkey Kong' to his grandson. Since then, he has been called Cranky and is loved as the elder member of the Kong family." Donkey Kong "Grandon of the original Donkey Kong. he took on the name 'Donkey Kong' from the original in 'Donkey Kong Country' (SNES)." Also, the reason his grandson can't be the original Donkey Kong let alone DK Jr. is because he first met Pauline in Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem! "He instantly fell in love with Pauline as soon as he saw her at the theme park's opening ceremony." And in said game Mario is also wearing his Modern Outfit and not his Classic Outfit. In addition in Mario vs. Donkey Kong Mario seems to not have met this DK yet calling him a big monkey. Follow Up

good morning. the nintendo direct was okay. i wasn't expecting anything, so i wasn't disappointed. hahaha. rambling about it below 👇
i knew we weren't getting anything on fantasy life i bc level 5 is gonna talk abt it at the tokyo game show soon. i forgot i wanted tomodachi 3 so i wasn't thinking about it. and we didn't get it! so it works out.
the million new mario games seem cool but i probably won't play any of them. i got kind of excited about the mario vs. donkey kong remake but then i realized it's seemingly pretty different from the one i played as a kid, mini land mayhem for the DS. maybe they'll remake that one some day. that'd be pretty wild.
some of the other miscellaneous games seem cool but i will not play them. i do not care about splatoon, but good for those guys i guess. my condolences to the f-zero fans, that shit was hilarious, but also sad. among us is a game.
i think that's all my words. cheers

After watching a special message from Nintendo with Charles Martinet and Shigeru Miyamoto, here’s all the Mario games I’ve played where Charles did a voiceover work in.
The Super Smash Bros. games are not included, which Mario also appeared in, alongside Sonic starting in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
Special thanks to Charles Martinet for voicing Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi since my childhood in the 2000s, with my first full game I played starting in 2010 with Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem! on the Nintendo DS. I was only 11 years old, when I first started playing my first full Mario game on the handheld video game console.
