You know what, now that he's back I'm gonna say it:

For as good a Showman as he is, when it comes to his actual chosen profession of a show creator Mr. Puzzles actually kind of sucks.

-He can't handle when things go off-script even slightly, which is ironic considering his four greatest successes came from giving the crew (or a related character) a prompt and just sitting back and recording the fireworks.

-Everything always has to be about him, even when in-context it really shouldn't be.

-When he has full creative control over the crew he has NO UNIQUE IDEAS. Everything he makes is a blatant rip-off of another show that only gets elevated to affectionate parody thanks to the very cast that he chose explicitly because he believed they sucked and wanted a challenge.

-Speaking of which, he clearly doesn't know quality when he sees it and either severely underestimated them, overestimated himself, or both, because it took them less than ten minutes to match and surpass his precious Five Stars.

-The five stars that took him most of a movie to get AND, need I remind you, THEY EARNED FOR HIM UNINTENTIONALLY!!!!

-It's clear from his monologue at the end of today's episode (and the fact that the episode exists at all) that, despite claiming otherwise, he has learned nothing from his defeat.

Time to infodump about the main theory I’ve been hooked on lately because I surprisingly haven’t here already, and it’s rooted in my predicted explanation for 4’s odd writing that he’s had this chapter.

I’ll just cut to the chase; I firmly believe the corruption is still within 4 from IGBP, like a parasite. It was dormant for a while after he was saved, but never actually left him, and the event that seemingly triggered it to be active again was PV’s reappearance back in Mario The Exploro. Ever since that, his sanity’s been slipping more and more; the opening shot of the episode I Put Mario In Danger For Views even has a striking parallel to the IGBP livestream:

Additionally ever since PV returned, he’s been extra focused on finding success & popularity, initially just for his channel and now for the Showgrounds with the meme factory plot. He’s even seemingly been exploiting Meggy in her leggy form to help get this success (which is really fucked up wth dude)

It should also be noted that being on the Showgrounds could possibly be speeding up his re-corruption; as he was at his most normal this chapter in Mario’s Plane Trip, which didn’t take place on the Showgrounds at all. The reason for this likely being that not only was PV responsible for the Eldritch Goo, he canonically owned the Showgrounds before 4 did, maybe even creating it himself. This was hinted all the way back in the episode Our New Home, in which the Showgrounds made its debut, when his logo was on the property listing.

And in the newest episode, Despicable Mr. Puzzles, PV’s last line before entering the factory is “Don’t you just love it when a plan comes together?”, implying his idea to steal 4’s power wasn’t just on a whim when he saw the factory. He’s probably been watching 4 and planning this since he returned. We know the basis of what he’s trying to do, but there’s probably much more to it than what we know. (Not to mention the episode had a cold outro which only happens when things are about to get crazy)

Next teaser will most likely be tomorrow so we should have a slightly better idea then :))

Despicable Mr. Puzzles SPOILERS!!! (Boy, do I have a lot to talk about!!!)

Alright, my fr opinion on the episode?

I feel a bit uneasy with the direction they're taking Mr Puzzles' charecter,

I am a Mr Puzzles simp so I could be kinda biased but I'm ok with the direction they're taking him! Though I am very concerned if they'll be able to pull it off or not.

I really liked Puzzles as a cold, mysterious villain whose wacky demeanor makes him even more unsettling, but I don't mind him getting a redemption arc and becoming a bit more soft and sappy. Even so, I am worried that the crew might woobify him and strip him of all his nuance.

I absolutely squealed when Puzzles was being cute with Leggy! But I do want there to be a scene where they actually acknowledge how much shit he's put the crew through. They did acknowledge Meggy's trauma in the Puzzlevision movie but with SMG4's casually annoyed response in Mario the Exploro makes me have serious doubts this could happen...

SMG4 might be one of my fave shows but I don't really expect writing quality from them. I think their strong suit is 10 minute short adventures and they're damn good at it!

Even so, I choose to believe Mr. Puzzles is in the right hands! And if he is not, fanon is always an option!!

That doesn’t mean you have to make THE SLOP! I love children’s programming and this is insulting. You parodied blues clues you referenced the muppet show you should know better. Become Sesame Street! Become Yo Gabba Gabba! Become Storybots! NOW!

Genuinely though. Such a good episode. I love how pathetically lonely this guy is. Favorite genre of guy. Meggy’s incredibly mixed feelings on him. It’s great.

I think it’s notable that… Puzzles didn’t really do anything all that bad here? He’s at rock bottom and the worst thing he does is yell and children. Which is of course bad, but very tame considering his track record. Nobody got kidnapped, or brainwashed, or forced to be an actor against their will. The only one who got hurt is Puzzles.

He has NO ACTORS. He is using mannequins and chicken nuggets as characters. And he can suck people into his head even when he doesn’t have the ratings power. He does it in Mario the Exploro when he’s half dead.

and the fact that he asks.

Sure, he’s being a smug jerk about it, but he asks. He doesn’t force anyone to do anything.

I guess once you get a taste of someone actively and genuinely choosing to be around you, it’s hard to go back to keeping only brainwashed company.

(Also don’t act like something can’t be both profound and a dumb meme. Ironic enjoyment is still enjoyment even if they don’t “get” it. Bring people joy. Throws Potato Knishes at you. Little King John… the flood…)

i checked all corners, and in the others, there IS an icon

Not wanting to overthink it so i'll say this: Mario The Exploro probably doesn't have an icon because it's pratically an actual smg4 episode (showing them out of the tv dimension at some points)

I always wondered if Puzzles' will come back next year, whether it be a movie or a WOTFI. I doubt it's a WOTFI but If it is.. I'm actually excited!✨

A bit early I know 😂😂 But like if he will come back, I wonder how Luke and the rest of the team will write him? Turn him into a psychopathic killer out for revenge?? maybe something deeper? I guess we won't know until a new episode ft Mr. Puzzles comes out!

I really hope he keeps his “mentally unstable narcissistic evil” personality, but after the WOTFI scene with Leggy basically entering Mr. Puzzles mind and basically giving him a lobotomy and changing the way he thinks, I don’t really think so.

The next time Puzzles appears is hopefully a couple of months. ATLEAST wait until next year. I can live without him (not really)

BUT it would be really cool to see an episode of him maybe escaping the asylum or just in general having some sort of redemption arc…?

Hi, I felt like psychoanalysing (?) Mr. Puzzles a little this evening, because I find it fascinating that some people still want Mr. Puzzles to die because he’s an ‘evil villain’ for what he’s done.

I think it would be far more interesting for Mr. Puzzles to survive in some capacity, and be forced to work for smg4 in the background; to eventually have Mr. Puzzles see exactly how badly he screwed things up in his desperation to meet some goal(s) he put to himself when he was younger. Something that became an obsession to try and achieve because Mr. Puzzles had no one to talk him down from the path he took.

And I want Mr. Puzzles to see that you can’t force friendships; man was so starved for anyone to be there for him and to support him that he literally latched into Leggy despite barely being around her for more than a few hours, at most. And then he deluded himself into thinking that it was a friendship despite the circumstances that brought Leggy into existence in the first place, and just assumed that Meggy would go along with it. And he did try to ask nicely at first, but both times (meme factory end and the puzzle box encounter) ended poorly for Mr. Puzzles since Meggy is suspicious of him and he covered it up with threats and hot air of someone covering up how much the rejection hurts him (no matter how justified it is on Meggy’s part as she didn’t ask to be Leggy). But that man takes it as a rejection from a friend, I’m assuming, as he’s definitely not asking anymore when he b & e’s into meggy’s home.

Maybe it’s because I’m older, or that I tend to like the antagonists/villains more than protagonist/heroes, but all I see when I look at Mr. Puzzles is an antagonist that has been pushed so far past his capacity to handle things on his own that he ends up in the role of a villain (it seems like all the puzzlevision shows have him being a helper/supporter in some way-not the villain).

Sure, Mr. Puzzles did all those behind the scene things before that, which was wrong to allow the tools to put smg4 and co through all those things. And while Mr. Puzzles didn’t torment them directly himself (IGBP, Western, wotfi 2023), he did allow everything to play out while presumably watching it all himself.

Puzzlevision movie; he didn’t seem to care about the manipulation if it got him what he wanted. He even indulges in a villain song likely because he’s starting to feel a bit put out after all the attempts at getting five stars for his previous show (despite them being parodies and not originals like he says they are). but afterward, from Mario the exploro or w/e ep, Mr. Puzzles appears to be more careful about engaging directly with smg4 and co. later on (Aka the whole meme factory thing and then Mario’s mustache ep).

It was only after he hit rock bottom with puzzlebox that Mr puzzles likely just couldn’t stand it any longer. So it’s unsurprising that when the didney (lol) thing dropped into his lap, it probably seemed like a sign to Mr puzzles to go after his (actual?) dream from when he was younger. Especially once he saw the engine room and hearing it be the most ‘important’ place of the whole park. Of course someone desperate and hurting and needing that validation is going to do whatever it takes to be able to accomplish that goal. Even if it means Mr puzzles hurts himself in the process to be able to see himself as someone important, when his father and everyone else were just being dismissive of him.

This way people have to be able to see him, even if ends up making people see/view him a villain. It doesn’t matter; he’s finally closer to achieving that dream but Mr. Puzzles just can’t let go the fact the smg4 has what he wants, and that clearly he needs smg4 and co around for things to be successful. Again showing that Mr puzzles struggles for the creativity he says he has, when he needs to rely on others to bring in the ‘views’ and to parody/mirror things that have already been done; man’s desperate desperate to set himself apart and he’s just taken more to try and achieve that because again, no one is actually attempts to converse with him or talk him down and just make assumptions that he is up to no good. So why not just take what he wants at this point? because other than his based on little time friendship with Leggy, Mr puzzles doesn’t really have anything to lose but the control he’s managed to seize, well, control of to try and turn things in his favor. Mr. Puzzles wants to prove to himself, his father, and the smg4 crew that he does have creative vision and dammit, he is going to show it to everyone! (I do wonder if the fairness thing will play out in wotfi 2024 like it did in the mustache episode or if mr puzzles is just out to torment people he feels wronged him).

Anyway, tldr:

I see a desperate man doing even more desperate things with each failure he experiences. A man who is craving validation, acceptance, no matter what he needs to do to get it done, because he’s had no one in his life to give that to him.

I see someone who is hurting from his past (aka need to prove to his father and to himself, that he has what it takes-creative vision), and acts out in a defensive (or derisive) manner by directing the convo elsewhere or making things ‘entertaining’ to cover up the pain.

Mr. Puzzles is in dire need of a friend that could help him drag himself out of the giant hole he’s dug himself in with Puzzle Park.

I just find Mr. Puzzles’ character so fascinating, and hope he can stick around to better himself, even if he becomes a background character for a time.

Mario, why did you bring THAT TV Man back? I thought the arc was already over! Man, even SMG4 didn't want the PuzzleVision TV to be back! 😭

I didn't think we would get to see Mr Puzzles ever again. But, I hope this will be the start of his redemption

SMG4 actually looks fine with pink overalls and gloves, even though the pink gloves were only in the thumbnail and not the actual episode. Mario as Boots made me laugh. Dora the Explorer was a show I remember watching, and it was actually a funny episode

Blood in an episode is a rare thing to happen. Still can't believe Bob was playing the role of Swiper in this episode

Bro, they brought him back after four or five weeks of him being absent. And Karen is in this episode, so that was nice to see. Also, SpongeBob Popsicle! 🥰

I'm just like the lads here. I dunno what show will be next to get the SMG4 treatment, but I'm kind of sad that SMG3 wasn't in this episode. He would have made an amazing Swiper the Fox

We definitely need more new faces for Mr Puzzles, though
