Minor spoilers for a cutscene in Mario + Rabbids DLC The Last Spark Hunter :

Obsessed with the way Peach is looking at Bowser here. IT’S SO SOFT ! SHE KNOWS UNDERNEATH ALL THE RAGE AND STUBBORNNESS IS A SOFTIE WHO JUST WANTS TO BE LOVED !

No but seriously, this is probably one of the softest gazes Peach has ever given to anyone, and the fact that it’s for Bowser of all people makes it both adorable and hilarious. Either Peach is literally the kindest most forgiving soul out there, or Bowser really isn’t as bad with her as he pretends to be despite his despicable actions. Or both.

The really funny part is that this is explicitly because of Nintendo's goofy brand protection policies. Third party developers aren't allowed to give meaningful character development to the core Super Mario characters, nor introduce any new characters who could plausibly be mistaken for part of the core franchise, so Ubisoft went and gave all the character arcs to talking Rabbids cosplaying as Super Mario characters instead. They gave a Rabbid cosplaying as Rosalina clinical depression, and this is literally the emotional heart of the plot.

I haven't played the mario and rabbids XCOM games but I hear things and supposedly the rabbids have like. full on personalities and sentience and relationships now? they speak full sentences? there's lesbian rabbids? what happened to the lore here I thought they just wanted to take over the world and hit things with plungers

Rayman’s loneliness in Captain Laserhawk hurts considering he’s surrounded by friends in most of his games. After watching it, I wanted to make a comparison to game appearances and his anime counterpart.

In this piece I tried out the shading used in animation for the Captain Laserhawk anime’s Rayman. For the Sparks Of Hope Rayman side, I shaded in a 3-D looking airbrush style. I really wanted to get across that they are from different universes (2-D and 3-D) and I think it worked out! This was very fun shading and lighting study to do.

Constructive criticism is welcome for this piece! I am looking to improve on things like shading and backgrounds. I have mostly been practicing 3-D looking shading recently and am eager to learn more about 2-D shading.

The way Nintendo has gotten a bug up their collective ass about brand identity and forbidden Super Mario spinoff titles from introducing any original characters that could plausibly be mistaken for part of the core franchise is objectively bullshit, but I have to admit that some of the ways developers have been working around that dictum have been very entertaining. Like, apparently the Rabbids talk now? And have angsty backstories? There’s a pre-fight cutscene that gently implies the evil ghost Rabbid is the edgy swordswoman Rabbid’s ex-girlfriend? I’m not gonna lie, that’s kind of fantastic.
