Im making an rp blog for a pokemon au version of myself so I have something to do while main universe slyme is dead.

I did a few doodles this morning of a few of the Pokémon that typically hang out in our main indoor facility.

Here’s a few tidbits about them:

Richard (Fomantis): funny little guy, has more energy than his little body can usually handle. Constantly challenging the biggest foe he can find, tends to find himself in a bit of trouble quite often.

Dogmar (Tropius): belongs to Nova, head empty, no thoughts kinda mon. It’s best not leave any fragile equipment in his path.

Rush (Pikachu): a bit of a loner, not quite sure how he lost his eye, but he’s very popular with visitors. But due to his species we can’t adopt him out to anyone.

Beanie (Scolipede): my baby, I raised him from an egg back when I was in university. He’s my only really battle fit mon, he’s very protective, follows me anywhere I go around the center.

Whiplash (Starly): not as friendly as his cute face might let on, anyone who tries to touch him will get hurt. Doesn’t stop people from trying though.

Mr. Darcy (Delcatty): A very good natured guy, squirms his way into any lap that will let him stay. He lives for pets and cuddles

DeeDee (Psyduck): very intelligent, but also very anxious. Any big brain thoughts in his head are held back by his constant worrying. Loves popsicles 

Prankster (Rotom): we’ve been trying to train them to be the center’s technology mon, but he’s more keen on possessing the microwave and scaring us half to death

Lumity (Butterfree): the guardian of our main building. Very kind, but also strict, does his best to keep all trouble makers out of our way when we’re working

Sunshine (Cherubi): any thoughts at all? Not sure, her favorite activity is sitting in my office window and soaking up sun.

Tyrone (Zubat): for some reason she prefers Nova’s office to the caves where the rest of the Zubat reside, she can be found hanging from the ceiling during most of the daytime hours.

Marigold (Teddiursa): she likes to sit in chairs and pretend she’s human, very chatty, just a baby, Lumity has to look after her or she might just hitch a ride home with a guest.

Love them dearly but they can he quite a handful

Kappa, Nema, and Jean were pouring over the map that Marigold had gotten them.

"It's alright." Kappa and Jean said in tandem. Kappa coughed and motioned for Jean to speak.

[Jean]

"Lacunosa was full of humans with very traditional beliefs. There's a story in that village that a monster comes up from the Giant Chasm every night to eat the townspeople, and that's why they shut themselves in at night."

[Nema]

"Eeesh. There's not a actually a monster in the chasm though, right?"

[Jean]

"Ha! As if!" Jean laughed. Morelet, who was standing next to Marigold, chuckled heartily.

[Morelet]

"Just beware the paranoid boomers!"

[Nema]

"Eugh, 'boomers' is such a dated term."

Everyone laughed besides Marigold, who only flinched. Not at the horrible boomers joke, but at the repeated mention of monsters. She had the phone call with Nigel and the recent news broadcast playing over and over in their mind.

Kappa was headed towards the Giant Chasm. The Giant Chasm housed Unova's largest Wishing Star. Wishing Stars around the region were violently exploding. Nema is going to be near a ticking time bomb.

[Marigold]

"Kappa." Marigold said sternly.

Kappa's face dropped.

[Kappa]

"I'm going." Kappa spat stubbornly. "I've been through too much today to stop now. All because of some stupid rock-"

Marigold cuts herself off. They did not have the energy to think about his girlfriend's possible death right now.

[Nema]

"...Marig-"

[Marigold]

"Nigel at the house cared about you enough to try and stop you! Doesn't that mean anything? Is your stupid amnesia really a good enough reason to get yourself and your friend fucking killed!?"

Kappa punctuates her sentence with a bout of painful-sounding coughs. Marigold stares at Kappa. They didn't expect her to react so violently. Kappa visibly deflates with embarassment and turns away.

[Marigold]

"I'm... sorry. I shouldn't have said..."

Everyone stands in stiff silence for what feels like an age before Nema steps forward.

[Nema]

"Morelet, hold me up."

[Morelet]

"Oh! Okay."

Morelet gingerly picks up Nema and holds her up to Marigold's eye level. Nema grabs onto Marigold's snout and presses her face into theirs.

[Nema]

"I love you a lot, you know that? And I am, like... super mega quadruple flattered that you'd fight for my safety like that."

"But, it'll be okay. I'm not going to die, alright?"

"I'm just gonna walk Kappa to a hole in the ground, and we will be back before tomorrow morning, okay? I wanna be there for her, y'know? I know you don't like her much, but best friends gotta stick by each other."

"Absolutely nothing will happen to me, I promise."

Marigold took in a shuddering breath. She leaned into Nema's comforting embrace, trying desperately to accept that Nema would be okay without her.

[Marigold]

"...Sorry. I didn't mean to doubt you." He said finally.

Nema gave Marigold a quick peck on the nose and wiggled out of Morelet's grasp. She walked over to Jean, who handed her the rolled up map with a concerned expression aimed at Kappa. Before anyone else could say anything, she blurted-

[Nema]

"Remember! If we aren't back before uhhhh... 5am! Then! You can call us, or come find us!"

Nema turns around and begins hastily herding Kappa and Jean toward Route 13. Jean giggles while encouraging Kappa to move. Kappa leans over to her and mumbles something. Jean whips around and shouts:

[Jean]

"She says sorry for yelling!"

[Kappa]

"No- you weren't supposed to tell them that!"

Nema and Jean laugh as they pass through the gate. Morelet stands on the balls of his feet and waves vigorously at his friends.

[Morelet]

"Byeee! Be safeeee!"

Marigold, after a moment, wiggles one claw in goodbye.

[Marigold]

"Bye..."

Marigold's cellphone vibrates inside the map she picked up.

"What?"

"Oh, good! You picked up! Okay, so, listen-"

Jean peeked past the plastic curtain, hoping to see Kappa awake.

[Kappa]

“J-Jean!” Kappa choked. “I forgot you were headed here too...”

[Jean]

“Yeah, I nearly fainted when I heard that you were knocked out. Are you doing okay?”

Jean spoke with a soft, caring voice that made Kappa’s whiskers shiver. Jean regarded her with a voice that said it has known her for a very long time. Like they weren’t complete strangers at all, but two people who knew and cared for each other deeply.

This was such a strange feeling to Kappa. Sure, Jean was very pretty and very kind... but, Kappa didn’t fall in love with strangers. She had met several Pokemon the she had found attractive, but she hadn’t felt as if every hair on her body was magnetizing toward them like they were to Jean.

Kappa flexed her claws. They were tingling.

She shook herself.

[Kappa]

“Jean...” She said suddenly. “Who are- do I know..?”

Just as Jean opened her mouth, she cut off by soft giggling and the sound of Morelet and Nema failing to sneak behind Jean and out of the room.

“What are you doing?” Kappa asked, exasperated.

Morelet and Nema scrambled out of the room and into the lobby, howling with laughter as they went.

Jean and Kappa were left alone in Kappa’s hospital room. Jean giggled.

[Jean]

“Your friends are so silly.”

‘They’re something.’ Kappa said to herself.

Jean stared awkwardly at the floor while Kappa fiddled with her blanket. Neither of them really knew what to say.

“If I knew your anxiety was this bad,” Jean said. “I’d have forced you into the special car with me.”

Kappa laughs.

[Kappa]

“It wasn’t always this bad. I didn’t think it had gotten to be so bad.” Kappa sighed. “I’ve always had anxiety- It’s just that something happened. And it got worse.”

Kappa looked up at Jean, hoping she wouldn’t ask her to elaborate. But, Jean regarded Kappa with a look that said she already knew. Or that she didn’t have to explain anything. A look that said ‘I know, honey.’

[Jean]

“Do you remember anything new?”

Kappa froze.

“Like, have you gotten any of your memories back?”

Kappa didn’t remember ever letting it slip that she had amnesia. She remembers saying she was going to Lacunosa without any explanation. Jean was just a stranger, after all.

A stranger...

[Kappa]

“How do you know that?”

Jean suddenly jerked back and started stuttering.

Kappa knew who Jean was talking about, but she couldn’t believe it. Marigold hated Kappa, but they would never...

Kappa glowered down at Jean’s nervous face. She was an obvious and very terrible liar. Marigold would never tell strangers what Kappa’s deal was, especially if he knew that it would make Nema upset.

So how did Jean know, and why was she hiding it from Kappa?

[Kappa]

“Yeah, okay.” Kappa sighed. She decided to go along with it for now. If she was careful, she could get Jean to tell her on her own. Kappa couldn’t sense and danger or ulterior motives coming from the Sealeo. No matter how she looked at her, it seemed like Jean just genuinely cared about Kappa.

Jean sighed with relief.

[Jean]

“Thank you.” She said. Before Kappa could speak, she cleared her throat, and added, “Would you like to go soak in the water out on the beach? We could talk more there?”

Kappa’s body shook unconciously. She hadn’t been in a body of water for nearly two days and she was feeling the effects, water types shouldn’t be away from water for so long. This would be good for her.

[Kappa]

“That sounds wonderful, actually.”

“The Super Multi Train will be departing soon. All persons with orange tickets, please head toward Platform 02. I repeat...”

A bored voice over the Gear Station intercom drones loudly throughout the steel building. Marigold, seemingly the only person with a sense of urgency, jogs over to the orange-striped train to hand the employee their friend’s tickets.

“Team of four?” They ask.

[Marigold]

“Yeah.”

Marigold glances back at Morelet after hearing shuffling.

“Dude, we just ate. Why are you buying snacks?”

[Morelet]

“They are for the trip there! I’m not gonna eat ‘em now!” He shoves his pile of snacks into a plastic bag. “Besides, I thought Kappa would like some powdered doughnuts.”

Morelet glances back at Kappa, who was hesitantly stepping down the stairs. Nema called out to her to ‘come on.’

Kappa was appreciative of her friends trying to comfort her before what could possibly be one of the most uncomfortable experiences of her life, but she still couldn’t help feeling nauseous.

To use the Battle Subway, you had to do its namesake- battle. Kappa, frustratingly due to an experience she can’t even remember, is terrified of battling. Just the thought of watching or, god forbid, participating in a battle made her feel sick to her stomach. But, let she take several weeks to cross the country on foot, she had to take the Battle Subway to get to Undella Town.

So, her friends were going to be barriers. If everything went well, she wouldn’t have to battle at all. However, as it was with anxiety, this didn’t help quench her fears. She always thought about how it could go wrong. What if her friends fainted? What if she fucked it up somehow? What if the train crashed? What if the world suddenly decided to implode right then and there? What if-

Kappa didn’t look over at Jean. She didn’t want her to see how scared and pathetic she looked. She must’ve seemed so stupid. Fretting over something this small.

[Jean]

“It’s okay, y’know. To be scared.”

Kappa jumped. What- how did she..?

“You shouldn’t be ashamed of your anxiety. It may be overbearing and frustrating, but it’s a part of you. Your fears shouldn’t be ignored, even if you have no choice but to face them.”

Jean put a reassuring flipper on Kappa’s scarred arm.

“Your friends will be there to help you. Don’t be afraid to ask them for help, n’kay?”

[Kappa]

“All right.” Kappa sighed. She knew Jean was right, and it did make her feel better to hear her reassuring words, but words weren’t enough in this situation. Her anxiety still persisted.

“...How do you know my name?” Kappa blurted suddenly. “I don’t remember giving it to you.”

Jean stuttered.

[Jean]

“Bwah- um. Aha. Your... friends said it earlier.” Kappa noticed how nevous she looked, but couldn’t spare the brainpower to care.

“The Super Multi Train will be leaving momentarily. Please board...”

“Oh! I gotta hand over my ticket!” Jean squeaked. She slid over hastily to the employee in front of the train door.

“Your ticket?” They asked. Jean handed over a longer, shinier looking ticket than the ones Kappa’s friends had. The employee looks over the ticket with surprise, which quickly changed to nervousness.

“Ah.. alright. Party of one then.” They stamped Jean’s ticket and handed it back to her.

[Nema]

“Wait wait wait!” Nema shrieked. “You can register as a team of one? How???”

Jean laughed. She had to take a moment to think.

“If I had known about that, I would’ve gotten Kappa a special ticket...” Nema grumbled.

[Jean]

“Ah, they’re pretty hard to get ahold of, so I wouldn’t worry about it.” Jean began to slide further down the isle to get to the front of the train. “I’ve gotta go. See you when we get there!”

Nema and Morelet waved and said bye to Jean as she boarded her ‘special car.’

[Marigold]

“We should get going too. I don’t want to delay another train.”

Marigold pushed Morelet, who was in front of him, up the stairs, earning them a gripe. Nema hopped up the stairs after them, and turned to help Kappa. Kappa was staring off into the distance, so she waved her hand around to grab her attention.

Round seven of the battles, the last round before their stop in Undella Town.

Yeah, it wasn’t going well.

The group’s opponents were far stronger and more intelligent in strategy than they were, and had soundly defeated Marigold. Nema and Morelet were barely standing, Morelet only slightly better off than her.

[Morelet]

“Oh, man... I don’t wanna do this over.” Morelet mumbled to himself.

The way the Battle Subway worked is that a team had to win battles in order to keep the train running to their destination. Battlers are typically paired against other battlers who wish to run the train in the opposite direction. Energy from each of the Pokemon’s moves is syphoned by the specialized floors of the train cars and converted into renewable energy that kept the train running.

Unfortunately, this is the only semi-reliable method of transportation in Unova. Why Anville Town’s train worked like a normal passenger’s train and none of the others did was beyond Pokemon understanding. Humans were weird.

Kappa’s team needed to gain seven battles worth of energy to make it to Undella Town. Choking during their last battle would have devistated the team and drove their motivation into the ground.

“Well? Who’s switching in?” Howled one of the opposing Pokemon.

Morelet shot a hesitant glance at Nema.

Nema reluctantly tried to stand up straight and hobble over to Morelet’s side, but a sharp white pain in her chest kept her from getting anywhere. She was Burned, and moving only made it worse.

“That Samurott is still at full health, send her in!” Shouted the other.

Kappa choked loudly as all three of her teammates flinched at the notion of sending her into battle.

Nema shrieked over everyone else, grabbing Kappa’s attention. Nema forced herself up despite her burn and jogged over to Kappa.

[Nema]

“I’m not agreeing with those jerks when I say this...” She starts. “But... I think we do need you in the area.”

Kappa stumbled at Nema’s words, feeling extremely lightheaded.

“Just for a turn or two!” Nema hurriedly clarified. “Morelet can take those guys out no problem. We just need you to stand there and look pretty, okay?”

[Kappa]

“But, what if- what if they-” Kappa puffed out in short breaths. Morelet called over from his spot on the field.

[Morelet]

“Don’t worry! I can handle this! I just need you to stand next to me for a bit so we don’t get disqualified, okay? I’ll be right next to you!”

[Nema]

“Trust me, if I could, I’d be the one next to Morelet. But, I can barely stand. And Marigold-” Nema and Kappa glance over at the mess of a Scolipede currently writhing on the floor. “...Well, we don’t have any more Potions to fix that.”

Nema puts her hands to Kappa’s face in an attempt to comfort her. Guilt flowed powerfully through her blood. She promised that Kappa wouldn’t have to battle, and now she is practically forcing her.

“You don’t have to if you don’t want to. Morelet and I can figure-”

[Kappa]

“N-no.” Kappa blurted. “I can do it. I think.” Kappa tried to collect herself as she talked. “Y-you taught me Protect just in case I was put in a situation like this... right?”

Nema opened her mouth to say something, but Kappa cut her off by walking up to stand next to Morelet.

“It’ll make m-me feel better.” She stutters. Nema immediately jostles herself over to Kappa’s left side, into the area just out of bounds of the arena.

[Nema]

“I totally got you! I’ll give you commands just like Valkea did, and all you gotta do is follow them, okay? Me and Morelet will protect you, I swe-”

“Hey! Is that allowed? There can’t be three Pokemon on the field on your side!” One of the annoying opponents claimed.

[Marigold]

“Shut the fuck up, my GOD.” Marigold yelled from where she was on the floor, seemingly having regained conciousness. “She’s not even on the field!”

Kappa felt a pang of appreciation for her friends sticking up for her while she fought with her anxieties. She stood stiffly next to Morelet, unable to stop her shaking legs.

Kappa nodded to Nema. She felt immediately like a disapointment. Her friends needed her to get through this battle to get to a place that she wanted to go to, and she was seconds away from saying no. This was all her idea in the first place, and yet she had the gall to nearly deny her friends when they were in need? God, she was a horrible person.

‘No- shut up. We can’t be thinking like that right now.’ Kappa thought. She just needed to follow Nema’s instructions and not get in Morelet’s way. Her stupid anxiety could wait. She could do this- she had to do this. Her irrational fear of battling was stupid, and she could put it away for a couple minutes...

...Couldn’t she?

The first round of battles were led my Nema and Morelet. Nema’s speed and wide range of attacks paired with Morelet’s bulk and strong jaw made for a fearsome duo.

They had so far torn through the first four battles without having to ask Marigold- or the absolute last resort, Kappa- to switch in. However-

Nema was hit square in the chest by a super effective Mud Bomb, sending her skidding across the train car to Kappa’s feet.

[Kappa]

“Sweet Arceus-! Nema!”

Kappa swept up Nema with shaking arms and hurriedly sprayed her straight in the face with a Super Potion, making her sputter.

[Nema]

“Guh... Tag out.” Nema coughed. She raised her arm and high-fived Marigold, allowing her to switch out of the battle. 

Nema tried to wiggle away from Kappa’s iron grip, but Kappa refused to let her go. Nema looked up at her quizzically. Kappa was looking down at Nema with teary red eyes, clearly worried for her.

‘Ah, frick. I was battling so much I forgot about Kappa’s fear,’ She thought.

“I’m okay, friendo.” She said, in a calm voice, hoping to soothe her friend. “It’s just one ground move, I can handle it.”

Nema reached down to rub Kappa’s forearm. Kappa sighed.

[Kappa]

“Sorry. I don’t... mean to be so anxious.”

[Nema]

“Oh, I know you don’t. I appreciate it, but we’ve got this. No need for you to worry.” Nema patted Kappa’s arm. “We won’t let you battle.” Nema was cut off from saying anything else due to a gutteral scream from Morelet.

Marigold removed their hoof from the poor Gastrdon’s side and turned to Nema and Kappa.

[Marigold]

“Okay, we have a break before the next battle, so let’s heal up so we aren’t a complete mess?”

The four Pokemon sat happily in their plush leather booths. The conversation between them was lively, and loud as their waited for their food. Morelet conversed with a partially spaced out Kappa over if she wanted to split a family platter with him. Nema adds that she’d help eat it, and Marigold talked quietly with a Venipede in the booth behind her.

This seems like a good time to talk to them. Will you?

Morelet, Marigold, and Nema were all exiting the Obsidian Onyx, their meal having been paid for. Just as Marigold was ducking to get through the door, she and Nema both stopped to look at what Morelet was shouting at.

[Morelet]

“I mean, if you wanna keep flirting with eachother, I suppose we can wait a little longer!”

[Nema]

“Ooookayy, ookayy. Let’s all settle down now. We don’t wanna embarrass Kappa too much!”

[Morelet]

“Gah- that hurt, how dare!”

[Jean]

“Ehehehe.”

Kappa detatched herself from Morelet’s forehead and straightened herself out. She locked eyes with Marigold, who was standing off to the side, trying to look disinterested in the conversation. Marigold turned towards Kappa.

[Marigold]

“Kappa, are you gonna be alright on the subway? It’s a long way to Undella.”

Kappa flinched and looked away.

[Kappa]

“No. I’m fine- I’m going to be fine. I’ve already gotten this far, I need to keep going. Lacunosa isn’t very far.”

[Marigold]

“...If you say so.”

Marigold turns away as Kappa’s stomach churns. She was not, in fact, fine. She felt dizzy. She felt like she wanted to throw up her nice dinner. She was not at all sure about continuing.

[Jean]

“Excuse me, but did you say you lot were going to Lacunosa Town?”

[Marigold]

“I don’t know if-”

[Morelet]

“Yes! You should for sure come with us! I’m sure Kappa would apprecieate your presence, hehe.”

[Jean]

“Ah, thank you very much.”

Nema noticed Kappa’s hesitance and jumped onto her friend’s back.

[Nema]

“Heyyy. You’re gonna be okay, right?”

Nema crawled over Kappa’s helmet and clung onto her neck, giving her a reassuring Komala hug.

“We gotta make this journey to try to find out what happened to you, yeah? I know you’re gonna feel anxious, and you’re gonna wanna turn around and hide... but, you don’t gotta worry. Your bestie’s gonna be there.”

Kappa swallowed and nodded. She was happy that Nema was here.

“Gwuh-”

Kappa coughed loudly while Morelet smiled deviously at her.

[Morelet]

“They seemed super interested in you. Like, I bet they thought you were smokin’- that’s how hard they were staring at you.”

[Marigold]

“What are we talking about?”

[Morelet]

“Somebody was giving Kappa ‘the eyes’ from across the restaurant. Kappa looked over at them too, so maybe-”

Kappa grabbed Morelet’s wrists and began shaking him. Nema, just now noticing the commotion, looked up and tried to speak through her garlic bread.

[Nema]

“Gwumfuh?”

Marigold shook her head, annoyed.

[Marigold]

“Good lord, Kappa. You can’t handle a little bit of eye contact.”

[Nema]

“Who were they? Wha’d they look like? Were they your type? I know you like chubby girls-”

[Kappa]

“Shut the fuck up!”

Kappa shreiked, embarassed. Everyone else at the table howled with laughter, making Kappa blush harder.

“Are we all done eating? We’re done right? Then lets leave!” Kappa’s voice cracked as she leapt out of her booth seat and sped out of the front doors of the Obsidian Onyx.

[Morelet]
