Fandom Discussion/Poll: Should a New Name be adopted for the MLB x DC Fandom?

This question comes about from one originally posed in this post that has gained a decent chunk of attention. It is the best one to lead into 2025.

This is a topic that has been discussed with parties' multiple times. The shared interest in finding a more inclusive name to use for the fandom as a whole comes from the following.

Maribat and Adribat are umbrella terms for ships of Marinette and Adrien respectfully.

Adopting a new fandom name is not without its drawbacks and fair amount of displeasure. All of which are valid.

Giving the fandom a name that better suits the crossover in entirety can help it not feel as much like it is confided to a corner as newcomers may see. It would open the door to the vast collection of characters that can used.

Final things before the poll, two names were suggested as potential candidates.

Mirabat

Combines Miraculous with Batman

Would match the current subsections well

Alternatively, it would work as a good name for non-Marinette and Adrien ships

MDC

Combines Miraculous straight to DC

Nods to Marinette's initials

Due to it already being a tag, it would be problematic but still fitting

Here's a compiled thought...

Combine both suggestions into MiraDC or something similar.

It keeps the same vibe as the ship naming trend of cutting names, specifically some taking all their name plus part of the other.

It also would be a completely new tag -> If used on Ao3, it would make finding fandom works from 2025 and beyond easier. -> It would help get more non Maribat and Adribat specific ideas seen by the fandom

It shows newcomers what fandoms can be found within our crossover

Ultimately, it is up to the fandom.

This is by no means saying go change all the old pieces to have the new name and retag everything that has been already made. That would be utterly ridiculous.

This would be something implemented moving forward. If they want, existing blogs and other spaces can change their names to match.

The only way this will work is if the fandom comes together to spread the news and make an effort to try it out. There is a potential that a wave of content all using a new tag could catch wind of new fandom goers which would be beneficial to all.

Fandom Discussion/Poll: Should 'Mirabat' be adopted as the fandom name for MLB x DC?

While the original poll is not quite over, it had a solid majority of fandom goers either say maybe or yes. Thus, this is being asked a little earlier than a week later.

The general consensus, amongst conversation on Discord and in reblogs on Tumblr, is that "Mirabat" would be the name that fandom goers believe would work best. The biggest reasons being the following.

It keeps the spirit of the original name

It is not that different from what the fandom is used to

Preferred the sound of it over other options

As a last topic before the poll, let us briefly discuss the other options given for names.

MiraDC could be adapted as the subsection name for all pieces that do not fall under Maribat or Adribat ship wise

Miraculous DC would be an amazing addition to the tags used on Tumblr to cover more bases of what a newcomer to the fandom may search

Once again, it is up to the fandom to give their thoughts on switch. Reblogs and replies are always available to do so to understand other's opinions on it.

Reminder: "Maribat" is not being discontinued. It will still be used regardless of what the fandom chooses. It may simply shift to being the umbrella name for Marinette ships only versus all ships/pieces.

With the new year knocking at the back door, it is a great time to come together as a fandom to see what members are wanting more of, what to leave behind in 2024, or what new things can be given a try.

Ao3 Ship Stats Tracking 2025: Starting Totals

While there is still time before the cutoff for ships to keep track of for the year (January 4th), I wanted to provide the stats for the ones we did already have to show off those to give an idea of what we are working with.

Perhaps someone will take the challenge to increase numbers by the time of the full list creation.

Discussion Post: Are there any tags you want to see implemented into the MLB x DC Fandom?

Since the Staturdays page here is currently seeing if the fandom wants to adopt a new name, it would be a good time to ask this question as well. Sometimes it can be difficult to find the pieces you are looking for because there is no tag for it. Now is the time to change that.

Ones that come to mind myself are "fandom name Bio-Parent" as well as the subsections. A fandom art tag specifically could also help find them in the swarm of fic posting and incorrect quotes.

Just a few thoughts of my own, curious of any others that may be overlooked.

Ooo these are some fun ships. Peabat and Heartless Moon are needs not wants. I adore the ships with Chloe going with "Bee" and Zoe as "Wasp" without any discussion. It just was an unspoken agreement.

All of these deserve to exist. The names alone are reasons to get people to create for them and Artemis as well as Cassie deserve more attention in the fandom.
