-Both MCs go from having a relatively normal life to realizing they now have significant magic/Power (from being an adventurer to a realmwalker + from being a human to the Power)

-Both MCs are the key to saving the world (against the Shadow Empire + Matthias)

-There are rifts between the worlds that cause a lot of damage (corruption between the realms + corrupted Power/Horrors)

-Both MCs have to cleanse and close the rifts (between the realms + to end the corruption)

-Both MCs have cryptic dreams from a mysterious, insightful character we don’t know if we can trust (The Watcher + ILB MC)

really sarcastic most of the time, but knows when to dial it back. there's being a jokster and there's being a dick and he knows where that line is

lost his eye. wears an eyepatch so people know he can't see through it, but has a bunch of neat prosthetics, which he jokingly compares to wearing lingerie under regular clothes. like having a spicy little secret throught the day.

as much as he loves his fully human life, sometimes he feels a sort of.... survivor's guilt? for not fixing the breach and giving his friends the oppertunity to live a more normal, human life.

but ultimately he is very happy with his decision. he loves his life with his silly dorky husband and wouldn't trade it for anything

he did fix Amalia's college issues the second he realized he could! he'd never forgive himself if he hadn't

he did enjoy fighting monsters, but he's glad he doesn't have to anymore

honestly i love all of these endings for him & they're all equally canon. in my heart.

anyway. he's an agressive asshole who puts himself first & will royally fuck over everyone around him if it means he gets to have his fun

he would have just let Connor stay a horror had Noah and Devi not been there

The Real Dent Hemmings absolutely hates what faker Dent is doing with his life and had a hard time moving on because of it. he was still a bit of a brash asshole, but he wouldn't have done any of the shitty things faker Dent did

honestly if Real Dent had been the one to make the final decision, he would have merged with the power to close the breach for good. he's a hardass, but he'll do the right thing no matter what

Question: Can Marianthe die? She escapes in all my ILW playthrough so I was wondering if this was the case in every playthrough or if I'm just doing something wrong.

so i wrote something mattyass was like, "Beauty fads will fade. but you and I? We are Eternal. We will outlive and outlast them all."

and i wonder if matty holds this attitude towards things like, oh I dunno, MORALS. "if everything will fade away, if castles and kingdoms will crumble, and i alone will bear witness, who's to stop me from being king?"

except. except world domination or even total destruction ("it' only a part of town," marianthe says) isnt his end goal. it's to maintain/gain more Power, yes, but then there's that delusional self-righteousness of his, that one he uses to patch up all the guilt and shame.

"how can i be a monster? i helped people like abel. im saving the town of westchester. i had a wife, i have a son, im capable of love (and never you mind that abel is conveniently part of the murder plan or that he probably had his wife killed or that the blood moon ritual booster his powers! its just a godwilling bonus!)"

i think the part of him that felt inferior to LJ never went away. not with everything he's done. i think he does "good" (what he thinks is good anyway) deeds both in a way to "atone" (its not atoning if you'll do it again) and to prove to himself that he's not a monster

because if he is... if all this death werent necessary, if LJ didn't have to die then what is left of you, Matthias McQuoid? Who are you?

if im picking favorites then im giving myself three from each book, otherwise we’ll be here all day

It Lives in the Woods:

 The final ‘Are you scared?” game which is cheating because its kind of the whole chapter but its my favorite. I loved every character’s response, like a final “fuck you” to their insecurities and troubles, special mention for Lily’s “Get these dumb birds away from me” I was full on wiggling in my seat

The fight against Redfield/Jane where they lock her away was epic, like I knew in my heart even the first time that it wouldn’t actually be over but i was still biting my nails and bopping to the music, also both high and low nerve variants are equally cool

The pool kiss with Andy, it was like the most perfect, romantic thing Ive ever read and I was squealing, “the water glinting off his eyelashes” like...cmon how was I supposed to flirt with anyone else after that

It Lives Beneath:

the lake day festival with the crew hanging out on Imogen’s yacht, I was so happy to see them all hanging out but after finishing the book its like “pictures taken before disaster” still playing volleyball and shoving Genny into the lake was fun and really helped me buy into the friend group

all of the fights were beyond epic, but my favorite might be the one on the yacht, we’re stabbing people, breaking arms, tides turning then back it was so cool especially when Imogen attacks her mom with birds

and OF COURSE the ending with Dick Sutcliffe. I hated this man so much so when i saw we got to kill him I was hyped, I didn’t even pretend like i wanted to bring him back, just full on “they’ve been dragging the lake for weeks, you’ll just be another name checked off the list” no mercy, no remorse, it was a lovely night for a swim

It Lives Within (let it be known that there are so many for every route and i am limiting my self to the single pringle route because it was the one i completed first):

THE RITUAL!!! We saved my baby and brought them back to life and the art was fucking beautiful and I was on the edge of my seat, the atmosphere was just right and then after the joy we get hit in the face with freakin Gertrude/Annie and the best plot revelation in history, when i tell you I closed my laptop and had to take a walk after that 

the aftermath of the gala, fighting horrors, yodeling through the woods, fighting Marianthe,  fighting Adrian, having Matthias save the day, and dying fifty eleven times. Like I adored everything about this fight scene

and finally Lincoln calling us his bestie...no real notes, just you know the only thing Jeremy had been working toward the whole game!!! And the hug was so sweet

(bonus mention) the time rewind if Rowan dies, like not only does Lincoln hit Matthias with a brick (i know its a rock) the music as he shows up was phenomenal like perfect timing, I was crying and laughing, the cowboy music was epic and hilarious

Marianthe is a direct descendant of LJ. She got onto Matthias' good side, but plans on double crossing him as revenge for what he did and to get the Power all for herself. That, or she came in on the same boat he and LJ did, and has been playing the long game just like Matthias has.
