I don't think the dismembered goat's heart Sherlock left on the kitchen table was supposed to be a gift. I'm worried about what kind of goat diseases we might get now. But Mariana and I have exchanged a few chocolates. And Archie gave me a big cuddle, that's a gift too.

What is Aguila Roja? Is it a show or a movie? Because in your posts you ranted about Aguila Roja's portrayal of Mariana.

Is there TV shows and Movies about her aside from that? I feel like Habsburgs in 17th century was often ignore by media because I don't see shows about them. There is Versailles series though if your interested.

"Águila Roja" is a Spanish adventure television series set in 17th-century Spain. Produced by Globomedia for Televisión Española, it aired on La 1 from 2009 to 2016 and has earned its status as one of the channel's most successful shows, with broadcasting rights sold in multiple countries. I must express my strong dissatisfaction with the portrayal of Mariana, as it is historically inaccurate and misleading. While I recognize that the show is a work of historical fiction, it is essential to accurately depict real-life individuals, especially lesser-known historical figures. The portrayal of Mariana as vain, selfish, and promiscuous—engaging in an affair with the fictional character Cardinal Mendoza. This plotline creates a distortion of her character. In reality, Mariana was a devoted wife, loving mother, intelligent, strong, loyal, dutiful, strict, tactile, and pious. These traits are glaringly absent from her depiction in the series. Although some scenes show her as a caring mother and wife, particularly when she comforts Felipe, these moments are far too few and are overshadowed by their frequent conflicts. Shows like this must uphold historical integrity, as misrepresentation can lead to widespread misconceptions.

Beware my friend as the worst is yet to come, I stumbled upon this video on YouTube. To those who are curious to watch this scene, it features graphic content.

There is more than one scene but I refuse to post the links because as you can see this one is already terrible. The other scenes just featured her getting kidnapped, tortured, tying her to a tree, and lifting her up in the air.

I was mortified upon witnessing it! The need to showcase the character getting tortured and almost burnt at the stake! I do not understand the reason or context of this scene at all! This scene is not only inaccurate and degrading, but It is also an insult to her name, real-life experiences, and legacy.

Apart from her portrayal, her costumes were as expected inaccurate, The outfits that Lucía Eliana Sánchez wore in the series, in my opinion, did not fit the way of dressing at the time. Both the exaggerated neckline and the shapes of the silhouette did not correspond to the attire worn at that time, and even more so, by such a leading figure.

In Spain, women did wear a neckline, as we can see in some paintings, but a plunging neckline would not have been common for the queen herself. The feminine style of the dress at the time was the so-called guardainfante, a huge frame in the shape of an inverted basket on which the basquiña (skirt) was placed. The bodice or sayo was tight, between the fabric and the lining there was a rubberized cardboard that literally crushed the chest. According to the historian Maribel Bandrés: “… it was so hard and flat that the body lost its natural shape. To give it even more rigidity, it had two whalebones coming down to a point in front: the busc .” The neckline was covered with a striking collar called a valona cariñana with a beautiful decoration of pleats called abanillos. This type of collar was very flattering and a large brooch was placed in its center.

In this particular scene, I noticed Mariana's dress. I've seen that dress before in other Spanish shows and on Pinterest, which led me to believe they recycled this costume. While I appreciate when costumes are reused in different shows, in this case, the setting is in the year 1660, as they discuss Maria Theresa's upcoming marriage and mention that Margarita and Prospero are present. They look completely different from their historical counterparts.

Yes, apart from Aguila Roja, She was featured briefly in documentaries such as Memoria de Espana and Habsburgs heimliche Herrscherinnen- Auf fremden Thronen

I agree with you this century is often ignored by the media or the ones that usually don't get that much attention even though their stories are good and interesting. My favorite portrayal of her, Is the Memoria de Espana's Mariana, The costumes and mannerisms are perfect.

My issue in the changes they are doing to introduce the characters is that it will change how the new fans going blind will see them. Grover betraying Percy and getting him expelled, Sally talking back to Gabe, Gabe being in a way abusive in the show but also lame but in then books we have Percy saying that Gabe would punch him if he doesn’t give him money. Annabeth just staring at Percy with scary lightning in the background. This are the first impressions they will have of the characters and they are not true to their book counterparts and whenever you like it or not, it changes the characters dynamics.

I completely agree and yes it's definitely a reflection of the writers (per your other ask). Im genuinely baffled by the fact they chose to do some of these things and don't really understand what value they thought it was adding (because when an adaptation has deviations, it's usually for a reason...) but im just praying that they're not for nothing. Im praying they add value. Because you're absolutely right that it's skewing the idea of who these characters are at their core (which is why im so up in arms abt sally!!!!) and honestly i think that can lead to misconceptions about a lot of the main values of the series (friendship, loyalty (the thing with grover HELLOW??) understanding things from other's perspectives, family. etc.). Like my 8 year old sister watched it and doesn't like grover and it's like....you just don't get it. And you won't get it because this is your first interaction with the material

I so have trouble deciding whether the identity reveal should be on accident or not because I like Mariana and or Slime revealing themselves as the highest form of trust, uncovering oneself to the person you love and putting yourself in a position of vulnerability for the chance of acceptance and understanding.

But by accident is funnier so let’s talk about that

There’s only so many times one can come home like they fought a bear in cosplay before the jig is up and you have to admit to being bitten by a radioactive spider while at your flatmate’s workplace. SIMILARLY, it’s quite difficult to dispose of the MULTIPLE bones a man routinely throws up before revealing yourself as a guy possessed by a man-eating symbiote. I mean we all have skeletons in our closets-

Mariana: “wtf the sewage guy I eat pizza with sometimes is also the cute nerd I’m raising Juanaflippa with?!???!” Deep in confusion

Slimecicle: “thought I was in love with two different guys but it turns out you were the same person” Counting his rare Ws

Juanaflippa knew all this time, she’s just smarter than the both of them

Ok, no angst- (because I can’t help myself)

Now, logically, they should undeerstand and accept one another as they are two sides of the same coin. But this is Slimeriana we’re talking about- they’re MESSY BITCHES, so I imagine that they would act all betrayed and that they were lied to and lying to each other (I like their hate/love dynamic) *cue the period of separation* where they eventually learn that there’s a hole in their lives which the other had left, maybe it’s in the way Slime burnt his toast so badly every morning it woke Mariana up better than his alarm, or how Mariana singing Juanaflippa to sleep.

But the little things stacked up on top of one another like Jenga until they toppled down, they both realised they couldn’t bear to be without each other, throwing their pride away to be together again!!! Only this time as partners (in crime too!) they can now properly support one another in and out of costume/slime!!!!!

🌟: I have got to go with Sherlock as my favorite main character. Sherlock & Co. has such an endearing adaption of Sherlock Holmes as a character-- Thomas the Tank Engine plasters? High fives? Brilliant and yet clearly human? I love him. If he has a hundred fans I am one of them. If he has one fan it is me. If he has no fans I am dead.

❤️: Hmm... this totally not a headcanon because it's essentially canon (although it has been awhile since I re-listened to the Gloria Scott episodes so correct me if I'm remembering wrong), but I am going to take this opportunity to talk about it anyways because I surprised myself! I wasn't expecting to be so fond of the idea of Sherlock & Victor as really close mates in school or roommates, etc. Now I fully recognize that this is surely left over from my time in the BBC Sherlock fandom, which often treats Victor Trevor as a traumatic relationship for Sherlock (both because of what happened to him in the show, and the copious fan content about Victor as an adult). That's neither here nor there, just a different Victor Trevor from a different Sherlock Holmes adaption. That's all to say that I just really like that S&Co. Sherlock had a healthy friendship in school such that he was worried about irreparably damaging that friendship while solving this case. It's very refreshing.

💎: Ahh I LOVE the entire episode the end of The Solitary Cyclist Part 2. Seeing Dr. Jonk Watson M.D. have his moment to shine was so exciting, and Sherlock is such a darling at the end when he congratulates Watson on his stellar work. It's absolutely precious and I totally re-listen to it when I need a pick-me-up.
