becoming active once again to give a quick response on Haven. unfortunately ive been working all weekend and haven't had the chance to sit down and really absorb it like i want to but eventually i will go and expand my thoughts further. for now, i say the boys have really outdone themselves this time.

Haven is an incredible experience and there's so much love and thought placed into this record that is all for US and i think its so beautiful. my favourite band continues to be my favourite band, its a title that is damn well deserved

nights like these by marianas trench feels so familiar, does anyone know what i mean? not in a "recycling/reprising old material is Marianas' Whole Thing" kind of way but in a "josh ramsay writes emotionally satisfying pop music" kind of way. it FEELS like the kind of fight song / film credits song that would blow up on the radio???

fuck man.

what a hollow fucking ending to an album that - in my most uncharitable yet instinctual read - displays a complete lack of self-reflection.

throughout my initial listen, i felt this lifeless resignation to performance, to creating art to speak truth to experience. i felt the labor in the construction of each song, and not in the good, 'each piece of this puzzle was masterfully maneuvered into its place' way. in the 'i fought tooth and nail against my writer's block to make this happen' way.

couple that with lyrics like i just don't work, not without you, which surface-level* read like they're addressed to the porcelain of our story (snarling at that finale evocation of 'ever after'), and it underlines the way our protagonist hasn't matured even one bit over the course of six albums. stagnation is the underlying theme of this record. actually, it's more regression than stagnation. at least in phantoms (2019), our protagonist recognizing that he's hanging onto a ghost of love means he can't also romanticize the healing power of that love.

topping all that off by throwing up his hands and accepting that this life and mindset works as well as anything, sold to us with a triumphant swell-and-settle of the orchestra...

Slightly random but something I became curious about; do you have voice claims for any of your characters and or the characters you use who haven't got canonical voices? What do you imagine they sound like?

you know, it’s weird… in my head, YES, they do have voices & i can perfectly hear them, but there’s never been a person that speaks like them??? like i have their voices already in my head, so now it’s a question of tracking down a person that speaks EXACTLY like how they sound in my head and it’s HARD.

i think the closest i’ve gotten is jst via songs, where chrysi sounds the crane wives, and tris sounds a bit like roan martin…. i don’t actually have a voice similar to azure, so umm… yeah!!! sorry if this isn’t a satisfying answer, it’s jst one of those things that i haven’t deliberately searched out!!!
