I am confuse and a bit weary.

Sega of America Channel had posted an artwork describing the two as long lost siblings and in Shadow the Hedgehog Manual 2005 Maria sees Shadow as her brother.

Sega of Japan on the other hand embrace Shadaria, they even describe them as akin to Beauty and the Beast, save the katakana hashtag, and the official manga has Maria using daisuki to Shadow, common I love you trope for confessions in Manga and Anime.

Is there like a divide of lore between East and West fandom? I mean why are the two interpretations being split between Jp and America?

sonadow au doodles that KILL ME!!! general gist of the au under the cut if you're curious

basically shadow is a ghost haunting the "ark" (a lab disguised as a house where he, gerald, and maria all lived) and about 50 years after his death team sonic + rouge and my bf's oc, acid, as irresponsible teens/young adults and attempt to have a party, but sonic is dragged off into the darkness to be possessed by shadow in his drunken state. they grow a rivalry fighting over control of sonics body and eventually fall in love over it (think venom and eddie brock). they live like that for a few years and the sonic gang adjust to life with a weird little ghost around, eventually fixing up the lab with eggman's help (who def starts out as a dick to begin with but. he gets redeemed bc i love him) and make a new body for shadow from his remains and a child from maria's dna who sonic + shadow take in and raise (also named maria) and its js a cushy fluffy family story from there and they have their own hoglets later too (they're t4t so one was from amy but when shadow got his body he was able to impregnate people so one of them is from him, they're twins tho :3) they kill me i love them so so so much

one of my favorite things about shth is the whole system of getting to team up with other characters who follow you around and talk to you and stuff and how most of the main and supporting characters that existed at the time get in on it. its so fun getting to see how all of them interact with shadow its so cute how excited sonic is to team up with shadow and how charmy thinks shadow is the coolest guy ever and how sonic tails knuckles rouge and amy are all there to cheer shadow on in the final battle. people will tell you shadow doesnt have friends but this game tells me that he does actually

#also interesting that maria is one of the characters you can run into. in the levels that are set in shadows memories or whatever #and we get a look at what she was like when she was alive . because before that all we saw of her was her death #i love you shadow the hedgehog (2005) people who hate shadow the hedgehog (2005) just hate fun #people who say its one of the worst sonic games ever are literally lying i wish there was more unironic love for this game
